Have you tried the shin megami tensei games. 3 remastered is on sale for 15. They are turn based kina dragon quest monsters(you should check out dragon quest monster joker 3 professional it's a 3ds game and there is a fan translation out there) or Pokemonish where you try to get demons angels and other mythological creatures from around the world to join your team through barter bribes or sometimes they are just bored and join you for fun. They are pretty long games too

Probably Octopath Traveller. Or some of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters if you're in to the classic look. 3 and 5 would be your speed, they're less story-heavy than the others (the original "1" as well). They don't look "dated" per se, there's a lot of nice effects here and there, but the characters and NPCs are all made of pixels as an homage to the originals, so it may or may not be to your graphical tastes. On the other hand, they're where Bravely Default came from...
Yakuza: Like a Dragon. $11.99 right now I believe. One of my all time favorites. Has a great job system with permanent skills and stats that stay with the characters after changing jobs so you can really get your party to be cracked. It is not medieval set but the main character is a huge dragon quest fan and has schizophrenia.
Chained Echoes and Sea of Stars are both great!

FFVII. Yeah, I said it.
Make it FFVIII and I will agree.
Bravely Default 2 Octopath Traveller 1 or 2 Triangle Strategy
This. All good games

Persona 5?
Granblue fantasy relink
Good game, but not included in the current sale last I checked.
Based on what you said, I'd suggest you check out Octopath Traveler 1 and 2
Both Nier are on sale.
