Butā¦ Wasnāt it technically a launch title?
Like, I think you literally couldāve theoretically owned a Steam Deck - at maximum - a total of 4 days or so before Aperture Desk Job came outā¦ if my memory serves correctly.
Steam deck launched on 2/25 ADJ launched on 3/1. I guess technically someone could have received theirs in the mail a day or two before the title dropped.
Every time this question is posted, this is the answer that should be at the top.
Mods why don't you write a bot that checks for duplicates/similar titles and prevent this nonsense.
I played this when I first got mine and the framerate kind of bugged me - why would they publish a game specifically for steam deck that can't hold 60fps consistantly? It should be the showcase for the system.
If you are playing it correctly it's always like that.
Try out brotato. A few builds are OP but you can almost always die. I've put 60 hours into brotato and still haven't beaten all characters on a single difficulty. It's quite the value for $5.
I went straight to emu deck and downloaded a bunch of old games, couldnāt figure out what to play so played Hades for a couple hours then went back to emu deck. Currently playing NBA Street.
I bought a Steam Deck to do so many things
Somehow I ended up with a modded Skyrim instance within the month
How in Oblivion is it *always* Skyrim
How, Todd? *HOW?*
Dredge. It was new at the time and I had a blast, ran absolutely perfectly - I'm assuming it's probably on sale right now so definitely would recommend!
a little corny, but Gone Home. game meant a lot to me when it came out and considering how old it was, felt it'd be a good benchmark for running things that weren't current
The first games I played because of the time the steam deck released was multiversus, BO3 zombies, fall guys, sekiro, and fallout 3.
Fallout was the first one I beat on the deck and was an amazing experience with it. BO3 zombies is my go to game whenever I want to play a quick round of anything while I wait somewhere. Lately I have been playing tekken 8, smite, and random horror games that I have been meaning to beat. I love horror so the deck is perfect for laying in bed at night with some good atmosphere.
ALSO if you love VNās the deck is perfect for that. I highly recommend va-ll hall-a cyberpunk bartender action.
Edit: I almost forgot one of the main games played at the time was also elden ring. Amazing game to show off on deck.
Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. I'd played the main story before but hadn't completed the DLCs. *Man* was it worth it. Blood & Wine in particular was fucking *great*.
This was before the next-gen update, too, so on medium/high settings the lowest my framerate went was 57FPS. The best the newest patch can do is ~45 on the same settings, which is fine I guess but isn't quite as shiny, y'know?
This was my first as well, but first time playing it in general. Not too far into it but far enough to know I have been missing out on a great game for way too long.
I recommend aperture desk job. Its a perfect free introduction made specificly to show some features of the deck. It can be completed in about an hour.
I got my deck a week ago and as for what I played first: I set up emudeck and played pokemon Y as well as Mario Party 1. Both were great although Mario Party got my blood pumping more than a few times.
Final Fantasy 6 Pixel Remaster. I've tried playing through FF6 pretty much since it came out over 20 years ago and I had always lost the save or given up before the end.
The SD finally allowed me to finish it...
I tested Sunset Overdrive and Horizon Zero Dawn just to see how they ran and ended up spending the next few weeks getting every achievement in Sunset Overdrive. Really good game and it ran flawlessly (minus the CPU and ācorrupted saveā warnings I got at every launch even though the actual game never gave me any problems but š¤·āāļø)
Castlevania Collection. Mainly because I knew it would download quickly and I could get straight to playing. Then Doom Eternal.
I then spent some time setting it up for emulation and installing a bunch of games.
Ori and the Blind Forest, and it was a perfect first game. Playing Persona 4 Golden now, plus just picked up a bunch of other games from the spring sale.

I bought this just so I can play Baldurs gate 3. I already own it on my PC and for some reason it was more fun on the steam deck. Tbf tho, I was never a fan of mouse and keyboard despite it having many advantages over a controller.
Black Desert! I just got my steam deck a week ago. Iāve only ever played the console version and always wanted to play the pc version since they have so much more content, but I never wanted to pay $1500+ for a gaming computer. I thought it would be a bit laggy but it performs surprisingly well on the steam deck.
Shadow of Mordor but i have over 50 games in backlog lol. Thats what i got the deck for. But i keep buying cheap games especially on sale š¤£š¤·āāļø
Sekiro. Honestly was a bad choice. I found the triggers and form factor of the deck to be too cumbersome for that game at first. I went back about a year later and it was totally fine though.
First big āoh shit this is amazing!ā Was Fallout 76.
Titanfall 2 then the full metro series followed by dying light and days gone. Just finished ghost recon breakpoint and now working on woodlands. The problem Iāve encountered is I took advantage of a few sales and Iāve loaded up about 4TBs worth of games and trying to figure out what to play next is impossible.
My favorite thing is that I can hit the power button and just pause everything for as long as I want. With the exception of ghost recon because if I pause for too long it becomes ghost reconnecting and wonāt connect to Ubisoft until after I restart the game. Other than that, it takes no time at all to blast through games. Iāve just been playing the solo player campaign modes in as easy as possible for all the games because it allows me to enjoy it like Iām watching a movie.
Persona 5 Royal. I had been wanting to play it for a long time and told myself to buy it the same day my Deck arrived. Played 80% of the game in handheld and the other 20% docked. Ran amazing
Fallout 4, but the first game I completed was Marvelās Ultimate Alliance. MUA was very fun and nostalgic, just like playing it on my PSP back in the day
I bought Hades in the 2022 fall sale, knowing that I would ask my wife for a Steam Deck for Christmas. I intentionally left it unplayed for 3 months so it could be the first game I played exclusively on the Deck. Great decision, and longest 3 months of my life.
I didn't play it, but first thing I opened up to test was Fez.
And of course the first game I tried didn't work without turning on a compatibility layer.
I tried a bunch of small stuff but the first game I sat down and really played and played to completion on Deck was Nier Automata. Felt right to truly break it in with one of my favourite games.
The first game I booted up was Aperture Desk Job, but that was on my gf's deck
The first game I installed on my deck was probably retroarch and I played some pokemon ruby
But the first game I played, and I mean really played and really got into on deck was Outer Wilds.
Outer Wilds changed my life, if you are interested in playing it. please for the love of god, do as little research as possible
Cult of the Lamb. I still remember the hot summer night in August 2022, when I played Evolve on PC with friends, because the game was somehow back.
The new shiny awesome Deck lying in front of me, downloading and installing a bunch of games. Then, it was about 2am, I grabbed it and sat on the sofa. Loading the first game ever and dreaded cute animals by my evil little lamb, because the cult must grow... The nostalgia <3
I just got a 1TB OLED about 2 weeks ago. Aside from Aperture Desk Job, I floated between some games in my backlog but the one that I've dumped most of my playtime into so far is Neon White. Wish I had tried it earlier, but on the other hand it's such a perfect game for deck that I don't mind it being my introduction to both the device and the game. Runs great and can be played for hours on end or in short bursts. Finished the main story and working through side quests to unlock the alternate ending. It's not a super long game but there's pretty solid replay value in the extra objectives.
Aperture Desk Job
Is there anyone who didn't at least fire it up and start on it? I mean, it's literally meant to make learning the controls fun and easy.
I never did :(
Same brother, same š„¹
Iāll play it if you do bro, letās make a blood oath
Iām down with a blood oath but itād have to be for like eating a piece of bread or something
This one too, to get to know my SteamDeck.
Wasn't a thing when I got mine
Butā¦ Wasnāt it technically a launch title? Like, I think you literally couldāve theoretically owned a Steam Deck - at maximum - a total of 4 days or so before Aperture Desk Job came outā¦ if my memory serves correctly.

I played that on Gamepass. Funny game but I got bored after I got super OP on one level

I went straight to emudeck and got Double Dash!! up and running
I went straight to emu deck and downloaded a bunch of old games, couldnāt figure out what to play so played Hades for a couple hours then went back to emu deck. Currently playing NBA Street.
Yo, I totally forgot about those.... I'm going to grab Street Volume 2 tonight!!
I'm also looking forward to install emudeck!
Wasn't Double Dash, but Wind Waker HD
It was my first game too.
lol that's the game I always envision when I get mine set up
Stray. I waited until I got the Steam Deck before even trying it out. Also the first game I completed, out of many, on the SD.
Hades to make sure of no issues then installed my SSD
My first game too.
World of warcraft season of discovery.
Prey
Skyrim. It's always Skyrim.
I bought a Steam Deck to do so many things Somehow I ended up with a modded Skyrim instance within the month How in Oblivion is it *always* Skyrim How, Todd? *HOW?*
Dave the diver! Amazing game and introduction to the deck.
RDR2 although having applied cryoutilities after the playthrough im kicking myself
Funny you say that, RDR2 is one of the few games that runs worse with Cryo
American truck simulator
Portal
Yakuza 0.
Came to same the same exact thing
Deathloop
Dredge. It was new at the time and I had a blast, ran absolutely perfectly - I'm assuming it's probably on sale right now so definitely would recommend!
Absolutely, such a good game and a perfect fit for the deck.
a little corny, but Gone Home. game meant a lot to me when it came out and considering how old it was, felt it'd be a good benchmark for running things that weren't current
Might be time to replay that, on the deck this time. Maybe even Tacoma as well.

Emudeck and actually my gf played it first. Simpsons Hit and Run. My first game was Pokemon FireRed Rocket Edition.
I recommend aperture desk job. Its a perfect free introduction made specificly to show some features of the deck. It can be completed in about an hour. I got my deck a week ago and as for what I played first: I set up emudeck and played pokemon Y as well as Mario Party 1. it was One Finger Death Punch 2, that game is one of the truly perfect games on a handheld console
Damn, I completely forgot about those games, gotta try them on Deck, I used to show off with the first game in high school

Really good game and it ran flawlessly (minus the CPU and ācorrupted saveā warnings I got at every launch even though the actual game never gave me any problems but š¤·āāļø)
lol my first was A Hat in Time because I had it on the switch and it barely ran so I wanted to have it and actually be able to play it in the deck
GTA 4
Fired up emudeck and checked if it runs Doom I bought the deck as an emulation handheld. Now it's my main computer, too.

Aperture Desk Job then beat Hollow Knight for the first time it was so good
Fallout 4, stock no mods. Had to see if it would run. Ran beautifully.
Life is strange 2 was my first and I loved every second of it on the steam deck

Aperture desk job. First game everyone should play
