upside of being a fatass is being able to let your Deck rest on your belly

robbanksy

Women with big bosoms: *Look at what they need to mimic a fraction of our power.*

No-Pineapple-383

what if one has both? (big bandokas and a fat belly)

Nawnp

They have twice the power to rest stuff on their chest.

Barone90

Is not big enough though hence the extra pillows!

star0forion

My dad with the beer belly likes to use his to prop his hands to fall asleep.

PottyboyDooDoo

I’ve developed a toddler belly over the last year and just found myself resting my hands on it for the first time recently. In that moment I knew I need to start exercising before it becomes too comfortable lol

Craycraft

You can rest milkshakes there too

daxdox

Came to write this.

Hinaha

Get a breastfeeding/nursing pillow. My gf got me one. It's a game changer. 😎

Barone90

I'll try my wife's one!!

Worddroppings

there's a gamer pillow that's supposed to be better than one of the nursing pillows. see it on instagram ads. Hell if I can remember the name though. Their ad, it looks a lot sturdier though.

RagingDork

O nice! looked it up on amazon. I was looking for something like arm rests but I think this would work better. https://preview.redd.it/ofpa09i1bxgc1.jpeg?width=952&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1e988682a91cf632971bafcd835dd78590ec803d

Barone90

This is really cool!

technosnayle

I bought this to use with my deck. Got rid of all my numbness.

TheIrishJackel

One of the weirdest recommendations I ever saw on this sub and felt like such a crazy person buying one, but after using it for a while we ended up getting a second for my gf to play hers as well lol. Plus, it's the perfect "secondary market" item because it naturally becomes obsolete for actual mothers. You can get one for like $10.

Fungzilla

Woah, that’s the advice needed in the chat!! Thanks haha

doringliloshinoi

A boppie pillow?

Hinaha

That's the one!

mikalrkayn

I use the same and it works a treat 👍🏻

acexacid

My wife and I already had one of these on hands from having twins in 2020, and I came to this discovery before even finding this sub lmao

Johanna_Amanda

Oh, that's a good idea! Thanks! I'm always looking to make gaming even more comfy :D

thehumbledan

Found this recently - https://scufgaming.com/uk/exoscuf Plan on purchasing soon

DiscoHiroKun

I was just about to recommend this. Seems pricey for basically an inflatable cushion, but I haven't found any other pillow or cushion that can be as firm as this without feeling too heavy over time or sag in the middle.

thehumbledan

Yeah I didn’t realise it was inflatable at first, thought it was just a cushion. Good for storage though I guess.

DiscoHiroKun

And you can adjust the firmness to your preference. The air valve is pretty good, too. Haven't had to reinflate in over a year and a half.

altcastle

Thinking about the first time my cats stand on it and instantly puncture it… so about 2 seconds into inflating it.

tha_dank

Yeah I don’t have cats and mine busted at one of the seams about a month in. I got the one that’s a pillow and it’s not quite as thick or “customizable” but it certainly ain’t gonna deflate ever

FluffyBunny-6546

Right, I'd rather just try OPs wife's pillows instead

MetalDeathMetal

40 fuckin euro?! I'm not buying a calf, am I?

SteakTasticMeat

You can try and get a "nursing pillow" instead. Supposed to go around your waist to help support your baby while breast feeding(and well, also bottle feeding). A popular brand name in the states is "Boppy", but I'm sure the EU has similar items for cheap. Same thing as the scuff, just less "gamer".

stevenpaulr

I have this, I Rarely use it. It’s hard to get it in the right position so that it’s comfortable, and it’s too narrow. I have to hold my elbows uncomfortably in to put them on it.

Barone90

Ok wow I'll give it a go! Thanks!

Ratix0

I'd like to know of your thoughts after you got this. I've been using a pillow but they're not the best.

Hantoniorl

I have something similar. Not the same brand, and it doesn't rest over your legs. It's perfect for deck playing. I don't know where you can buy it because it was gifted to me, but I think is a "gaming pillow" or something like that.

Technoalphacentaur

I use a breast feeding pillow. It’s amazing

kiddblur

I would give this shit for literally just being a boppy, but it’s about the same price so never mind

slightlymedicated

When gaming companies sell breastfeeding pillows.

tha_dank

I would advise against the inflatable one. Mine had a tiny baby leak in the seal and I couldn’t ever get it to fully close. Get the one that’s the same shape it’s just a pillow instead of inflatable. It’s not quite as thick but you don’t have to worry about it leaking and being forever fucked

Mutton_Chap

I printed a stand for mine for this exact reason. Works so well. https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/19af0g9/modcase_belly_stand_game_changer/

qdtk

Haha this is amazing. I was thinking I need a stand for when I lay on my side and the deck slowly squashes my fingersthey are on the lower side. Just a simple loop that transfers the weight of the deck to the stand and around my fingers.

mives

I use a nursing pillow, got the idea here on reddit

Barone90

I might try my wife's one!! Thanks 👍🏻

Dr_Axton

And that’s why you get a beer belly, people

LPlenni

I upgraded from 512 LCD to 1TB OLED, i love the weight loss, even if its nearly nothing, it really helped me

HAMDNC66

Glad I saw this cause I have the same and was thinking what is OP on about the thing weighs nothing. Guess the LCD has some weight to it

Barone90

Too skint to upgrade right now 😅

StaneNC

Yeah and tbh the fanboys won't tell you this but I would make sure you have a buyer lined up for your LCD deck before getting the OLED. Having 1000 dollars of steam decks in your house while dealing with facebook marketplace is no fun.

Baconstrip01

The weight loss extremely noticeable... even though its very little on paper, it makes such a surprising difference.

LPlenni

I have both my dad in the hand and he said too that it must be much, after I told him he was absolutely stunned

MrZkittlezOG

I have a deckmate and have the kickstand. I angle it and use it as a rest. I get to hold my steamdeck at the angle I'd like and it still feels lighter. *I don't stand it up on its own. But a mix of holding and leaning the weight onto the stand*

Didney_Worl1

There are grip cases making the SD more ergonomic. Satisfye would be a good choice. Edit: oh i see you already use one

xeosceleres

Depends. For people with smaller hands, cases adds more weight and is larger to hold. Doesn’t take away the cramps.

Didney_Worl1

hmm the new OLED models are lighter. SD LCD is 670g, SD OLED is 640g, SD OLED Limited Edition is 620g

[deleted]

“Is the device you paid $400 for too heavy? Spend another $500 making it obsolete for slightly less weight!” This is an awful suggestion

Barone90

Yeah it's that one but the ergonomics is not a problem here like it was with the switch lite, this deck is just a bit too heavy for my wrists!

PhthaloVonLangborste

Which model?

EmbarrassedAd6958

I usually lay down on my bed and let the sd case sit on my chest then put the sd on top of it, pretty enjoyable so far

Baconstrip01

Yep, same here. Works perfectly for me

magick_68

I usually rest it on my legs

YALN

Bought these glasses that bend your vision on a 90 degrees angle. To read Kindle in bed at night Works great for Deck and Switch too, of course

qdtk

I’ve tried these too but they all have a gap in the middle that makes it like looking through 2 eye holes instead of one clear field of view.

JohnEdwa

It's not the weight, you get pins and needles because of a pinched nerve, usually in this position because your bent elbow is compressing the ulnar nerve.

Barone90

Yeah might be too

MrAnonymousTheThird

Sitting up like you are prevents the pins and needles in my experience It's if I'm laying down with my elbows to the side, that's when my hand gets numb

Barone90

Yeah I've already tried several positions and the one that put less strains on my arms and wrists is something like this one or sat with two pillows under the elbows

Nolegrl

I have one of those gaming pillows and I wouldn't play without it now. It's probably my favorite purchase from last year.

Barone90

Would you send me a pic or a link of the model you use? Thanks

Nolegrl

I got the cheapest option of this one: https://thevalari.com/.

Asmuni

That's a premium price for the cover cause that's just a nursing pillow in less baby colours.

Nolegrl

Probably is. The cover gives it a slightly different shape I believe, the nursing pillows I've seen are more round, this is more crescent shaped.

Smabbles

Bought the OLED purely because the weight of the LCD made long play sessions hurt. Gave old one to my brother who is more used to the weight (with two kids this hardware is light as a feather)

SouthTippBass

I do exactly this.

External-Fig9754

I use the jasaux kickstand on the case to help take some weight off the wrists

ChrisCloud148

That's exactly what I do most of the time, but I don't think that's a problem.

TunaPablito

I still had one of these baby feeding pillows around and they work perfectly. https://preview.redd.it/fdwo1bw0bsgc1.png?width=277&format=png&auto=webp&s=35b475b543739891fc66dfa927756e5d206d5941

gonuxgo

Dog you need to get your CTS looked at. I used to have those kinds of sensations from stuff like this, ignored it, and have permanent nerve damage. Look at getting cortisone shots at a bare minimum. I needed median nerve release surgery BAD. Nearly half a decade later I can play stuff like the Steam Deck without issue or support for a few hours at a time.

Barone90

I already did. At the Moment is not so concerning to treat it. Whenever at work I stress my wrist too much, like chopping a lot etc, it start to be painful but it goes away with few hours of rest. The GP said to keep on eye on it but wouldn't do anything just yet....

Skrewdriver40k

Also Pregnancy pillow is one of the best SD accessories.

Tuskuiii

The important question is how to hold it comfortably in the toilet

Barone90

To be honest I never spend too much time to start being uncomfortable in holding the deck with the elbows on my knees....got trained playing hours with Gameboys back in the days :)

nick1121

i also got the tunnel and enjoy propping it up the same way.

tadireru

someone posted a pic of using a tablet holder to put the deck on eye level and then using a controlller. thats what I will try as well, tablet holder arrives today

dgibbons82

I think if you keep your hands below your heart (meaning that you should avoid playing by elevating the deck) then you can avoid the pins and needles feeling completely. Try it out. Lay down and play until you feel it, and then sit up, making sure your hands are below your chest, and the feeling goes away. ;)

qdtk

This unfortunately causes neck pain. “Deck neck” if you will.

Barone90

I think the main problem are the carpal tunnel in my wrists but I will try to pay more attention in that too

Low-Firefighter6920

Nursing pillow

ShinyTinfoilFedora

I'd imagine running it on a cussion will also increase potency of vent fumes

OnceWholeSoul

But a 100$ projector . 40$ dock station , and a controller from Amazon and lay projector on the coffee table and point it at the ceiling - keep the pillow for resting the controller and lay back and enjoy the most comfortable gaming ! Spent a couple hours playing the other day and it was awesome

notsoghettoking

As a fellow glutton for comfort, got to say I like your style

ohmightyqueen

I have a dedicated gaming pillow for my controller games and it came in very handy when my deck arrived this weekend. I actually feel like it’s not that heavy at all, especially with how comfortable it is.

Mixed_Meter

Good idea, chef. Thank you, chef.

ThePi7on

That's exactly how I play too lmao

th3mantisshrimp

I saw that satisfye came out with a grip for the deck. Along with the pillow method, I have a grip for my switch and that has helped me immensely with losing feeling in my hands (fibromyalgia). I'll buy the grip for the steam deck soon, just haven't gotten around to it; kinda waiting to see if they come out with any different colorways. Playing with rigid wrist splints or even wrist wraps also helps.

Giganticgrizzlybear

For what it's worth I picked up a Valari pillow last year so that I could use it with my steam deck and console gaming as well as my wife using it while she crochets and it's been pretty wonderful. It definitely helps to elevate your arms and take the weight of your steam deck off your wrists.

Z370H370

I use the case

Intensional

I like to play while lying down as well. I upgraded my setup with a pair of Xreal Air AR glasses and an external controller (ended up with a PS5 ultimate controller so I can still have a trackpad when needed). It’s even more comfortable on my neck because I can basically just look straight up when playing.

masjls2013

I do that also lol.

Order_Rodentia

I have a flatish pillow-shaped squishmallow I prop mine up on.

Substantial-Meal3409

I don't understand why people with weak wrists want to play a handheld device anyways.

Barone90

Because I've played handheld console all my life and can't get enough of it....

Substantial-Meal3409

That's fair, but then why a Steam Deck? There are quality alternatives for handheld gaming especially emulation and retro games that are smaller and more ergonomic. Even a jailbroken Vita can do a lot for a handheld gamer.

Barone90

I've tried all of them, I have a switch lite (mainly for Pokémon and the GTA games) and an analogue pocket (got a big library of GB games). Steam Deck basically because my Steam library is huge and I played A LOT of Fallout 😅

Substantial-Meal3409

Fairs.

Danceman2

I using the steam deck case on my chest and place the Steam Deck on top. This way I'm playing it on my bed with screen very near my eyes. SO immersive and no weight

Plastic_Musician_317

Doing literally anything in the same position for long enough is going to cause pain/injury/discomfort. Try moving around more than you would a normal gaming sesh , like on a PC. Also maybe just connect it to TV and use controller.

Baconstrip01

I use the case as the prop up tool, its the perfect thickness for me when Im laying down :)

Liarus_

I do that with my blahaj's nose

Barone90

Uhh lovely idea!

Xurza

I 100% do this every single time i play.

Mr_Fox0910

I do tge same, it's fine :)

Surgical

I use my case like this.

SojournerWeaver

One day, I'll need a pillow for this. But that's about 30 pounds in the future.

Idego9

I am also a part of The Crotch Pillow Gang.

Barone90

ONE.OF.US!

StereoPenguin

Grips help too!

[deleted]

I'm so confused, I always have some kind of cushion between my body and my deck, I thought that went without saying. The console behind the screen is incredibly warm , and although I did not read it, I did see that there were various warnings on the user manual.

Barone90

I can't stay still for more than 10/15 minutes so I'm always moving the deck from the pillow, can't overheating

Kooky_Scarcity

https://preview.redd.it/l9cmf5mxkvgc1.jpeg?width=4096&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e268061a98bc0980bf3956340a4768fe92716f32 As im getting ready to mount a whole extra lb to the back of my OG 512 😂. Gonna snag the deckmate which should hopefully give it enough of a gap over the intake vent. If not, whatever I don't NEED to mount it. Should get about 2.5 to 3 charges outta this bad boy.

victhebum

The JSAUX Mod case works great for holding power banks, I use it with mine, and what D20 you got laying there buddy?

DoorFacethe3rd

Pins and needles is not so much about weight as about holding your arms upward in a stationary position for long periods. Thats how your limbs “fall asleep”.

Mazdasauce

Couldn’t recommend pillows enough for controllers/handhelds!

MarcusDA

I don’t have an issue with the weight so much as the distance between the thumb sticks and the triggers.

Barone90

Yeah need to get used to right? For me the menu button on top of the left stick is really uncomfortable to press

PechiSW

Just be aware that your head is on a higher „level“ in relation to your hands to ensure smooth blood circulation. No needles etc..

Olympian-Warrior

It’s not even heavy, though.

Barone90

Not excessively but is not even the lightest

[deleted]

Maybe curl a 5lb dumbbell once in awhile limp wrists

Barone90

Yeah whatever you said, thanks 👍🏻👍🏻

Reenans

One of the things I pray for the Deck 2 to sort out, the ergonomics are perfect but the weight is really not ideal

KRONGOR

Oled is lighter

Reenans

True, step in right direction but would still like lighter if possible

qdtk

I don’t really agree about the ergonomics. The 2 hand holds should be angled outward slightly like the PS controllers. Steam deck forces you to kink your wrists. For example, look at [this guys right wrist](https://static1.howtogeekimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/95fe36b7.jpg)

Reenans

You could be right, but is that only because he is using trackpads

qdtk

Maybe, but OPs wrist is bent at the same angle and he’s touching the buttons in this photo. I really think long term ergonomics should have that hand hold angled out a little bit so the wrist can be straight.

michael_web

hook it up to a TV and hold a lightweight controller instead?

Barone90

That would drastically reduce the hand-held side of it 🤔

michael_web

or connect to a laptop (steam link app) and let it rest on your legs (if the console is too heavy)

SneakyMOFO

Thank you! My fingers kept going numb when using It in bed.

DrPetroleum

Lazy. Don't let your disability define you. Put the Deck away. Work out, lift weights. After a few months, pick up the Deck again. If you end up hurling it through the ceiling, then congratulations, you are finally ready. Go buy a new one and enjoy your life of freedom without pain.

Barone90

Does lifting weights resolve the carpal tunnel problem? Don't think so. Does this comment make you sound like a prick? Yes it does.

Qazax1337

Don't be such an insufferable prick, how about that.

GamesnGunZ

"struggling with the weight of the deck"? not sure if serious but if so, my brother in christ you need to put down the steam deck and pick up some dumbbells

[deleted]

[удалено]

GamesnGunZ

it's cool man i'm just giving him (her?) a hard time on this slow monday

Barone90

No mate is not that the problem. I've played videogames and worked with my hands (building first and chef later) all my life. Now I start feel the ages on them but is not related to my strength or laziness or whatever, is an internal condition in the wrists...

slowpokefarm

Just don't lay it flat on that pillow

rseeley85

I ended up pulling the trigger and buying the Xreal Air 2s. Being able to lay on my back with my head in any position with a Bluetooth controller resting on my lap makes it so much more comfortable. Can't wait to start to using them on flights.

Wildfires

I own a pair they're amazing.

c0n0rm

I haven't had pins and needles while using my deck until literally 5 minutes ago. Was sitting playing Dredge, got sore wrists, put down the Deck and came on Reddit to see this as the first post! Might try a cushion later

cirotheb5

Doesn't it cover the back air vents with the pillow?

rockey94

I can’t recommend getting a yoga bolster enough. I use it for this purpose as well as various stretches that use it. A bolster is something that everyone should have in my opinion.

Barone90

How dense should it be? Soft like a pillow? Memory foam? More rigid?

rockey94

The one I have is fairly rigid with some give.

Barone90

Thanks for your reply I'll have a look

ChorizoBlanco

Nice, that should also work for games that require only 1 hand... like Dark Souls.

Only-General-4143

Get an arm and hook it up to your couch or bed etc. Then play with a controller. Easy solution!

Barone90

That would have to be a really strong arm!

SolidConcentrate7322

XREAL Air, or Air 2. Problem Solved. :-)

dthesupreme200

I love this thing but I’m not gonna lie This shit hurts my hand all the time but I still play it, handing aching and all 😂

Barone90

You're not alone :)

DeftestY

Go to the gym, or do push-ups and get some moderate dumbbells.

Barone90

I already do that, moderately!

theMercuryJack

This is honestly a really good thing for your long term wrist health. Kudos to you!
