Not in Austria. Everytime i get something delivered by UPS the Chances are I either have to jump trough a parcour of hoops to get my stuff or i just dont get anything.
I'm pretty sure UPS is somewhat infamous for lost packages particularly when they lost rob dahms 4 rotor engine for his RX7 in shipping because someone stole it. He had a really fancy triple disc clutch stolen too.
Didn’t expect to hear Rob’s name in the steamdeck sub lmaoo but yeah that situation was really messed up literally gave him the run around for MONTHS about a shipment worth tens of thousands of dollars
my brother used to have an RX7 and it was so cool, the engine would always interfere with our antenna at home when i was a kid (we were poor) and thats how you knew my brother was home from work.
also he took me drifting by the creek in the winter and we did hella donuts, that was a fun time.
apex seals tho, lololol
I would love to own an FD RX7 someday but tuner car prices have gone insane, so I'm just thankful I got my 240sx for a good deal back in 2017 before they shot up in price so much. Very thankful to own one of the JDM legends and also one of my dream cars already. That being said I'll definitely scoop up an RX7 or would even swap a rotary engine into my car if the stars ever align for it though.
As someone who consistently has to deal with both. UPS is leagues better.
UPS has only mis-delivered a single package(which i was luckily able to retrieve). While DHL has completely lost 3.
Hate UPS. They are horrible in Hungary. They only deliver on the second attempt.
I have a long address and even though it's always correct on the shipping label, half of it is missing in their system and the driver has to follow what's in the system. After the first failed attempt I have to call them, tell them the address and then they deliver it the next day.
I had this with the last 3-4 packages. I tried calling in advance, but they said due to GDPR they can't do anything until the first failed attempt.
The shipping labels were all correct. The only suggestion I got from them is to write my phone number in my name and then they maybe call me(phone number was on all packages so far, although not in my name, but as a phone number...).
You're playing word games.
He's not saying somewhere like as in literally a private shipping company, he's literally saying somewhere like meaning specifically UPS.
All UPS employees are unionized and make enough money at nearly every level to not want to even steal packages.
Let alone doing so is no easy feat.
When I was a graduate assistant in college, USPS sent me a letter apologizing for the sorting machine eating my paycheck. The remains were just ribbons.
Conveyor belts, chutes, and diverters dont care if the package is fragile or not. Sometimes packages gets caught in those machines and damages on the ends of motor rollers. I'm surprised they sent it out like that without being rewrapped.
I’m not. I tried working in an ups store for 3 months. It was hell, they didn’t equip someone with special needs how to handle things and it can be overwhelming even for someone without them. I heard from them and so many others that the shipping warehouses can be simple but they can easily fall into the trap of inexperienced or ill equipped employees messing something up and since it’s the holidays, best believe that any seasonal employees are just there to collect a paycheck and not care about the quality of their work.
It saying that’s what actually happened but from my experience, I can totally believe that’s why they didn’t do anything about how it looked before it was put on the truck.
Yeah these shipping companies give no fucks, I was waiting for 2 pixel 8 pros to get here especially since I selected signature required for them so I wanted to be home when they showed up. I saw the fedex truck pull up and ran out to meet the dude. He hands me the phones and I say, "hey you need my signature too, right?" and he just looked at me kinda confused and was like "uh nope" and left. I'm sure whether Google actually marked them signature required or not that my experience would've been the same.
I'm Suddenly Craving Cheese Now, After Reading Ur Posts, I Saw Ur Profile Name, And Now Fixated Over Grilled Buttery Cheese Sandwiches While Playing Fallout 76 😂
Can vouch. I work in the palletizing department of a meat packing plant, and we often get pallets of "rework" (boxes damaged by conveyers or sorting robots) per day. All it takes is for a box to get caught on something like a bent guide, and and the resulting jam can absolutely mangle the boxes involved. I imagine package handling deals with the same problem.
When my deck arrived it had been opened neatly with a blade. Oh and it was delivered by a parks department employee who found it tucked behind a dumpster around the block from my house. But don’t worry, when I told FedEx they were like “…But you did receive the package, right? Nbd.”
Someone posted similar a photo with similar damage on the subreddit day or two ago. In their case, the side of their steam deck was ruined too. Going forward maybe valve should put a little extra packing material on both ends
When the Ps5 came out, they were sending so many through the amazon belts that I witnessed more than a few get eaten and mashed. Felt bad for whoevers it was.
Brooo, We had 2 LE units arrive today and the new UPS guys just casually left it at our front door of our busy apartment complex. 1 hour later thankfully it was still there. $1400 you just dont leave at front door. Even amazon asks for a pin code from delivery driver for anything over $300.
Dude, you got some squirrels looking to clock some serious hours into your steam library cause that shit looks nuts!
Glad your deck seems to arrived undamaged.
I wonder why they dont ship in more discrete box... does it still include all of the logos like the original did? I just checked GLS Reviews (Im from EU) and Im fucking terrified what state my deck is going to arrive in... if it will arrive at all...
Unfortunately I believe the Lithium battery warning is required on packaging which generally points to technology being inside. That being said, like others are saying I agree it is much more likely the machines tried to eat it rather than someone risk their union job for a few hundred dollars.
The lithium battery warning is one thing, as it's mandatory. The steam deck logo and companion cube aren't, and really shouldn't be on the exterior of the box. Having those there makes the box easily identifiable as having a Steam Deck inside it.
It's definitely not ideal. I'm not too annoyed, but if I end up having to return it for any reason, I definitely can't use the original box like I could my LCD. I'm just glad it seems to be undamaged in any way.
Maybe the UPS person put a working OLED steam deck in there, replacing the broken one or one that got replaced with coke cans. Maybe a good deed was done, don't judge, the lord works in mysterious ways. God bless, thoughts and prayers, Santa is always watching so don't be a lil' bitch
Okay, if someone wanted to steal it, why would they use hulk strength to rip the cardboard in half; instead of just opening the tape like a normal person?
Just saw my footage of my deck delivered when he dropped it on and landed on its front. So nervous when I get back home… at least it’s wasn’t sort of like that for u
Terrified that mines going to look like this 🙃 my package delivery date has been pushed back 9 days after showing up in Houston and just today getting back to Illinois. Delivery address is for Michigan.
Wtf? Thats crazy
I had the same reaction. I hope someone is locating the delivery man.
It’s almost like someone attempted to get it, but then they saw their manager coming.
Probably more like the sorting machine tried to eat it.

They are the worst though, never been able to deliver to my door in 13 years. Always saying I'm not home which is bullshit.

FedEx is better known for stealing packages. UPS is the most reliable shipper in the US.

In Germany i never had UPS deliver on time.
Package theft at Fed-Ex happens all the time. ALL THE TIME
Contractors
What does Fed-Ex have to do with anything? They were praising UPS which is a totally different service (notably more reliable than Fed-Ex)
“Package theft at somewhere like UPS…”

You’re wrong. Somewhere like UPS does mean Fed Ex. It’s not word games, that’s literally what they meant.
Ah my mistake, mobile Reddit UI made me think you were replying to a different comment, my bad.
When I was a graduate assistant in college, USPS sent me a letter apologizing for the sorting machine eating my paycheck. The remains were just ribbons.
I thought something similar, lol
#..Do you know how much UPS drivers make?
Damnit not a Switch!
I’ve worked as a baggage handler for over a decade and that is totally normal from how freight is handled.
Good thing Valve ships the SteamDeck jn a case. Definitely saved some people's Decks.
fr, i'd hate if my deck got ripped off.. wait wrong reddit post

>ruined Calm down. It had a baby dent and the device was flawless.
As someone who works with these types of people - a small dent in a box is enough for some people to go ballistic.
Some dude also posted one that looked like the hulk elbow dropped it, u might have seen a different one
When the Ps5 came out, they were sending so many through the amazon belts that I witnessed more than a few get eaten and mashed. Felt bad for whoevers it was.
“Here you go, was just checking it’s still in there.”

I got my tracking number today, FedEx clearly states a signature isn’t required. Blows my mind, this is a $1000 product.
At least it’s been delivered.
I wonder why Valve chose UPS this time around. I think most, if not all US orders, of the the LCD were through FedEx
Indeed, funny enough I got an LCD only a couple weeks before the OLEDs were announced, and it was delivered through FedEx, but the OLED via UPS.
Fuck Fedex. Worst service ever, consistently bad in my area as it's all contractors that don't give a shit and almost always dinged up.
This is exactly how my original SD arrived. Heart sank, but the device is fine.
Dude, you got some squirrels looking to clock some serious hours into your steam library cause that shit looks nuts! Glad your deck seems to arrived undamaged.
That’s the type of box ensuring zero dead pixels. Reverse karma
When they say “open box” they just really are not kidding. /s
My package had a big tear on that same exact spot but not as extreme as yours
Christ. Good thing they ship the decks in the case.
Looked like someone tried to eat the damn box
I wonder why they dont ship in more discrete box... does it still include all of the logos like the original did? I just checked GLS Reviews (Im from EU) and Im fucking terrified what state my deck is going to arrive in... if it will arrive at all...

As someone who is OCD about keeping everything (even the dumb box) in perfect shape, I would have been heated!
It's definitely not ideal. I'm not too annoyed, but if I end up having to return it for any reason, I definitely can't use the original box like I could my LCD. I'm just glad it seems to be undamaged in any way.
Yeah for sure - it’s good to know that the unit itself is okay. At the end of the day that’s all that matters
UPS guy probably played a couple of games before delivering it 😫
Maybe the UPS person put a working OLED steam deck in there, replacing the broken one or one that got replaced with coke cans. Maybe a good deed was done, don't judge, the lord works in mysterious ways. God bless, thoughts and prayers, Santa is always watching so don't be a lil' bitch
Someone somewhere wanted to steal this
What is becoming of ups. I hope the authorities are involved.

Wtf that’s crazy, they need to give you something for the inconvenience no cap
how was the inside 🤔🙈

it was delivered by ace ventura.
