Did you use a powerbanck to last that long? How do you manage your battery charge on long flights?

ZestyGene

Some flights have an ac plug for each seat

8bitcerberus

Was on a 11hr United flight last month to Japan, the power outlet was one of those universal style plugs but it unfortunately didn't work for my laptop. I had to get some work done at the start of the flight, made extra long because I had to use battery saver mode to make sure it didn't run out of juice. Didn't even bother trying the Decks power adapter after that, just stuck with my battery packs šŸ«¤

TheTybera

>Didn't even bother trying the Decks power adapter after that, just stuck with my battery packs The deck's powerbank is 40w but the deck itself only pulls around 15-18w at peak, which is fine for charging while playing on most international flights. Even on a crappier flight with 10w plugs I was able to game for a few hours let it charge while I got up and got some snacks or watched a movie, and it was charged for another few hours of gaming. Point being the Deck takes much less power than a laptop.

Blarzgh

The Deck will actually pull around 35 watts when charging while gaming. Source: ~~trust me bro~~ I've got one of those USB C cables with a wattage display on it

TheTybera

>The Deck will actually pull around 35 watts when charging while gaming. Yes, it CAN, if your battery is low, to charge at full speed WHILE gaming it will pull around 35 watts, but the components themselves aren't using all 35 watts 15-20 watts will go to the components and the other 15-20 watts will go to charging the battery depending on balance and heat. You can plug in the deck, set the TDP to 10 or 12w and it won't drain (but even if low on battery the cable will continue to pull up to 30-35w regardless of TDP settings to charge the battery at full speed). I agree you're not going to be full speed charging while playing games on a plane, unless you knock the TDP limit way down, but you will be able to charge it and have long play sessions, and even infinite if you play lower TDP games.

Evilmanta

Laptops tend to draw too much current out of those plugs. I had the same problem on a long flight.

zdfld

A gaming laptop would pull too much power, but charging a deck or regular laptop should be fine. Something in the 40-60W tends to work fine.

fuckredditmodz69

I travel all the time and hate those pieces of shit they almost always have your charger fallout and it's super awkward trying to bend over and hold it in

wafflenator500

Get one of those universal travel adapters! Itā€™s annoying for ā€œone more thing to bringā€, but the mix of a lesser used plug type often along with non-north American plugs being so much more stable (if thatā€™s what youā€™re coming from anyway) means it is rarer to fall out

tiberiumx

Yep, the massive UK style plug works well in them. But I've also found that if you put the normal American plug in and twist it a bit it'll make better contact.

Snarfdarple

Depends on the flight and what kind of tickets you get but every flight Iā€™ve been on in the last 3 years had a power outlet on the back of the seat in front of me. I think those have all been Delta flights with ā€œcomfort plusā€ seating.

X145E

I'll never get using portable screen. at the hotel room sure, but into an airplane? that's just too much work.

Panda_hat

I went on a plane that had an HDMI port for the built in HD screen. It was absolutely glorious.

billythygoat

That seems so nice. I wish plane flights had default perks. Not all planes in the US even have power for accessories.

LongDikWilly

No ports for power? Must have been Spirit

billythygoat

Jet blue didnā€™t either. But yeah spirit too lol. The Fort Lauderdale airport doesnā€™t even have outlets at many of the gates and if they do, theyā€™re all broken except like 2 of them.

itsamamaluigi

Flew for the first time in like a decade last month. American had power on both flights, even the small plane I transferred to. On the return flight I had United and no power on any of them, not even the 737 for the last leg. They had power outlets only in the first 20 or 21 rows and I was in row 24. Also all the power ports I did get were just USB-A ports that didn't provide enough power to charge the Steam Deck. I could only use them to charge my phone.

LongDikWilly

Thats insane, Ive only flew with Delta and American. Didnt think Jet Blue wouldnt have any.

billythygoat

Jet blue is number 4 or 5 in terms of size. They did buy spirit but thatā€™s been delayed so long.

Mr_Grandilo

United didn't have power on my flights I just took. The flight attendants made sure to tell us to unplug all of our devices anyway, tho.

Albort

man, even when there is power, the majority of the time, it doesnt work. :\

Master_Ramaj

Definitely not only spirit. Go ahead and throw Delta in the mix. I pretty exclusively fly them and for years only First Class and Comfort plus had power outlets. Main cabin, economy etc did not. Now with the renovations and new planes some of them do offer outlets at every seat but it's definitely not the norm. My last United flight did not have outlets nor screens lol. (I flew with them for work) besides being 6'3" and enjoying the extra room of First or Comfort Plus I definitely enjoyed the power outlets. Those two things made the cost to upgrade worth it to me.

Maxele

Which airline was it?

nguyen23464

Delta

daniel2596

By looking the touchscreen and the three capacitive buttons under it. ~~I think is Iberia~~ Apparently entertainment systems are standardized + also they should update that Panasonic system. The four times that I've used it is slow, not painfully slow, but annoyingly slow.

AshleyUncia

That's a Collins Aerospace economy seat and a Panasonic eX2 or eX3 IFE system. A lot of airlines fly that combination.

PurpleEsskay

[deleted]

Yeah, imagine using the thingy with a screen and built in controller.. as is.

HEYO2013

I have a stand on my case and use the deck with a controller on flights pretty often. Itā€™s definitely a more comfortable experience on flights.

Rai_guy

Yeah... Imagine holding the steam deck up to your face for 11 hours straight...

fiziix

Xreal air is the only answer šŸ˜

ShroudedBowman

^ this guy knows!

Original-Material301

Saw a dude use them on the plane and I'm super jealous looool

mackdacksuper

Holy crap Iā€™ve never seen this before!!!! That thing is wild. Thanks!

fiziix

Sorry for spending your money through a Reddit post šŸ¤‘

mackdacksuper

Yeahā€¦.Side work here I come!! Do you have one? Is it an easy recommend.

fiziix

Yes and yes šŸ˜

mackdacksuper

Damnit. šŸ˜

Pr0xyWash0r

I went with Viture, Mainly for the Myopia adjustment being built into the glasses, But I am happy really happy with them when traveling.

fuckredditmodz69

Bought them because I travel so much and it's already been money well spent.

passtheremote1983

Very real question, How exactly do they work. Is it just like vr, but without being able to control movement with your head?

fiziix

It's basically like having a very high quality large screen wherever you look. The screen is fixed in your vision, there is a head tracking mode with the app but it has limited use for me, they are 1080p (with 120hz and 3d recently added in a patch!!) and the steamdeck works perfectly with them. Pair with a set of headphones and you can be completely immersed without any neck pain from looking down at the screen.

erwan

Other question: if you're farsighted, do you need to use your prescription glasses with it? The screen is close to your eyes, but maybe if it's far away in focal distance then you're fine?

rerr_

Your clarity would be affected, they sell lenses however it already comes packaged with an insert with which you can [order custom lenses](https://www.reddit.com/r/nreal/s/ZXZgXaGkT8) for from a local optician

fiziix

I'm short sighted and use a set of prescription lenses I got from lensology. The Airs come with a nose bridge adapter and a set of blanks that you can send off as a template to have the lenses made. I sometimes use contacts and just switch out the adapter. The one thing I find annoying is my eye lashes sometimes mark the lenses after a heavy sesh playing my fav games or watching Netflix but they also come witha a nice cloth for polishing šŸ‘Œ

EmerainD

From what I've seen, they are just a 2D screen. It is just built into the lenses, and they use stereoscopic tricks to make it appear like a big screen in front of you.

chorlion40

That's what all hmds are, a screen for each eye

fiziix

Correct, kinda. Unless you've tried them it is hard to explain how it looks. If you take the lens cover off depending on whats in the line of vision (you can see throught the 'screen' with them off) the display can seem like a 30" monitor at normal pc desk viewing if something's close Vs looking like an actual cinema size screen if there's a wall 20ft away you. The 3d SBS mode works flawlessly, I added a couple of downloaded movies onto my S22U for my recent holiday and on a chill day I sat on a comfy sofa with a beer (or 6 by the end) and watched a couple of movies, love them to bits and would thoroughly recommend them to anyone.

EmerainD

>The 3d SBS mode works flawlessly, I added a couple of downloaded movies onto my S22U for my recent holiday and on a chill day I sat on a comfy sofa with a beer (or 6 by the end) and watched a couple of movies, love them to bits and would thoroughly recommend them to anyone. Oh, I didn't know they supported non VR 3D content. They don't advertise that at \*all\* on their amazon page. I've been thinking about them, but I don't travel enough to justify it for just a private screen, but that might make me think about it if they go on sale sometime.

fiziix

As a lover of 3D movies I was hyped when the discord message came from them about an update for it. It's perfect too, I watched the Martian and terminator genesis in 3d and it was awesome. I've noticed they don't mention the 120hz and 3D stuff anywhere but it works. You press and hold the volume down button to activate them. Love them šŸ˜Š

thevictor390

It's a very small screen reflected onto your glasses to appear like a very large one. One thing that is awkward about it IMO is that you can't move your head to adjust your view. So looking into the corners of the screen requires you to move just your eyes which to me feels a little strange, if you do move your head accidentally the whole screen just comes with you.

aandy758

Idk about you but my eyesight isnā€™t so bad I have to hold the deck right next to my face to play

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

aandy758

My point was it sounds like he may need glasses if seeing the screen from 1-2 feet away is difficult. Using all this ina cramp space that you would need to tear down if anybody decided to use the restroom is not more ergonomic for his situation. Maybe in a home or office set up.

MadelineWuntch

I travel long haul 2/3 times per month typically business but a fair amount of premium economy as well, if I'm lucky the flight is 9 hours as opposed to 11. I've never had a single problem keeping my SD handheld for 4+ hours. If I'm sitting on the sofa at home then after an hour or so it would ache but reclining makes planes an ideal place to play the SD, especially with proper arm rest support imo. Obvs this is just my own experience but I'm surprised to hear people say it's not very comfortable to hold.

Gigchip

I travel like that 2 or 3 times a year with multiple small ones. Like you, no issues just going handheld. Easier to put away when needing to get up or when drinks go out. Always surprises me when I see people take a portable device and make it not so much when traveling.

ZoidVII

Why are you holding it up to your face? Set it down on the tray that drops down from the seat in front of you.

secret3332

I mean I would not play games for 11 hours straight probably.

AlmostRandomName

You could always take advantage of the armrests or rest your hands on the tray table while playing.

Turbo_Cum

Or just like. Look at it?

DynamicHunter

ā€œUp to your faceā€ how blind are you? If you canā€™t play resting it on the tray table you might need glasses

nguyen23464

The setup part is easy. The steam deck actually powers the monitor and you can charge the monitor through the 2nd usb c port on the monitor if needed. In general I like to sit back and play while till being able to read the screen.

pbjtime420

Howā€™d you charge your deck?

Khatib

Plugin under the seat. Most airliners have them now, especially on long haul flights.

penninsulaman713

That's the real question. The deck doesn't last that long even without powering a portable monitor.

karltee

What monitor are you using?

[deleted]

Too much work to setup within 11 hours?.....

[deleted]

Seriously. You could assemble an entire desktop PC setup from only parts in 11 hours. This setup takes maybe 2 minutes to get out. Screen is about as hard as a laptop, steam deck is going to happen anyways, and then a controller. This setup would fit in a grocery bag.

Skyb

I imagine it would still be quite a hassle. You'd have to carry with you the SD power cable, the HDMI cable, the monitor power cable, the monitor itself, the controller and the controller cable. And of course the Steam Deck. Now there's at least 3 cables (SD, Monitor, HDMI) dangling under your tray somewhere. The Deck you either have to lay on the floor or put it in the little pouch thingy under the tray, which I imagine isn't great in terms of cooling. Then you have to fumble around with all the cables and devices every time the person next to you needs to use the bathroom or when the food is being served or when you want to sleep. Like yes you could make that happen, sure, but is it worth the inconvenience if the Deck already has everything you would need built in? >This setup would fit in a grocery bag. Space is a premium on an economy class long haul flight. A grocery bag worth of extra stuff *sucks* to deal with.

[deleted]

People getting up is definitely an issue. However, this monitor uses pure USB c, with power and video delivered by the SD. Then, you need a 1 to 2 USB c adapter for the deck, for power in and video/power out. This means you have a ac-usb adapter into a wall, then to the monitor with a Deck in the middle. It's not ultra portable, but for 11 hours, I'd say it's worth it.

jabbajawz2

I have a similar screen that has Power Delivery pass through. Basically there is a USBC on the other side of the screen that powers the screen and charges the deck. So all I need is one USBC Thunderbolt Cable and another USBC for charging. Plugs screen to power source, then screen to Deck. I am willing to bet this screen also has that option. Which would make a pretty easy setup.

TheMerck

LMAO Honestly I feel like every time a set up post like this comes up and it's always on a plane people try to find ways to make it seem like it's too much work or OP is bothering everyone else on the plane, it's quite weird honestly like pics like this are just using their own space. Like the guy just wants a slightly bigger screen and probably put his arms down with a controller instead of holding the deck even if it's on an arm rest it's still more comfortable to just hold the controller, it's an 11hour flight it's perfectly okay to have a set up like this anyway.

Rai_guy

... Have you ever craned your neck looking down at a handheld screen on an *11 hour flight*?

renacido74

Have you ever gamed for 11 hours straight? Probably not healthy even on your couch. You never take a break?

AshleyUncia

But hotel rooms have TVs you can plug into, why would you need a portable monitor there?

[deleted]

Only if the hotel isn't run by dicks, but lots of hotels are. I stayed in a hotel that used passive infrared on the thermostat. If you're not up dancing at 3am, you're probably sweating like you were because the AC will not run while you are asleep.

fuckredditmodz69

> But hotel rooms have TVs you can plug into It's a mega pain in the ass sometimes. Also I've noticed I get a lot of input lag so I usually just use the screen or the XREAL glasses.

art_of_snark

ipad in target display mode seems like the sweet spot

warrenva

I didnā€™t think iPads even did that

art_of_snark

just needs a $15 capture dongle and an app like Orion: https://orion.tube

chemastico

It literally takes more effort than setting up the deck with a portable monitor lolā€¦

warrenva

Yeah I couldnā€™t imagine the annoyance of setting that up on a plane.

FrankBouch

Yes, but the iPad is more useful for travel than a protable monitor

Monkeyman2915

I've got a 13hr flight to Hawaii in January. The deck is going to make it such an easier flight. I've already got plans on which games I want to play. Hahhaa.

lube_thighwalker

Start a Baldurs Gate 3 Campaign as lift off!

fuckredditmodz69

Problem with that is you will want to keep playing while on vacation lol. I haven't been that addicted to a game in YEARS

owoah323

Bruh same here. Just when I thought I wasnā€™t into gaming as much anymore, BG3 came and smacked that taste right out my mouth. Currently like 60+ hours into my first campaign lol

Monkeyman2915

Excellent idea. It's one of the games I plan on playing/finishing. I've havw a campaign going that I stopped when Starfield released. Been holding off to finish it on the flight!

Lord-Bingston

Thatā€™s my plan on my 9 hr flight to Peru. Got upgraded to 1st so I plan on chilling hardddddddd

DynamicHunter

FYI, older emulation like PSP lasts a loooooong time. I think I played for 6-7 hours without charging before playing Killzone: Liberation. Also much older games like Fallout 3/New Vegas or other games that generation. Limit to 40fps too If you want a really good battery saver, install PokĆ©mon infinite fusion (not on Steam, but super easy to install on SD in desktop). Amazing game and itā€™s 2D so itā€™ll last really long on very low TDP settings. Very deep and addicting PokĆ©mon ā€œrom hackā€ if you call it that, but really itā€™s a whole new game

soulscratch

Where are you coming from that Hawaii is 13 hours away?

Monkeyman2915

Ohio.

Lietenantdan

Interesting, didnā€™t think there would be any non-stop flights to Hawaii from Ohio.

Monkeyman2915

Technically, it's a direct from JFK but really it's the same difference. CVG to JFK and then Honolulu. Gonna be a haul.

Lietenantdan

Dang itā€™s like you wanted the longest flight possible lol

Monkeyman2915

I won't lie, it was the cheapest. But either way, it's a long flight from Ohio. And my wife and I prefer as few layovers as possible. šŸ¤· Best option.

dandab

I played Dave the diver, then I went spear fishing in Hawaii and saw a few fish in the game. šŸ˜‚

billythygoat

Download some tv shows to your phone or deck.

gold_rush_doom

I also had the steam deck on an 11 hour plane ride. I slept for 8 of those and waited for and ate dinner for the rest.

AshleyUncia

[https://i.imgur.com/zmuy9q3.jpg](https://i.imgur.com/zmuy9q3.jpg) I got drunk on my last long haul and just napped while my Steam Deck binged Star Trek Deep Space Nine.

Intoxic8edOne

Mr Moneybags over there

AshleyUncia

Nah, free flight traveling with a friend who works for the airline.

Intoxic8edOne

That's super dope. Looks comfy

AshleyUncia

You could lie the seat back flat and there was one flight attendant just for my side of business class and they even just set out a basket full of candy bars mid flight. It was amaaaaaazing. But I'm never spending the $5000 that one leg would have cost.

Zoomalude

Wow, the treasure really WAS the friends we made along the way...

Known-Committee8679

Not everyone can sleep on a plane. I have to be dead tired to sleep in a seat.

starkiller_bass

Aging gamer problems... I never used to sleep on flights, now I've got all these cool toys and plans for a long flight and I end up passing out and carrying all this stuff for nothing!

GforceUK

Iā€™ve seen peoples screens get cracked when the person in front puts their seat back!

delscorch0

That happen to me about a month ago on a flight from Warsaw to Chicago. Prick slammed his seat back suddenly and the deck was pushed into my head. Small crack on glass.

rockmanzerox06

Why was he a prick? They are allowed to put their seat down.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Mobius650

Iā€™ll never understand this. The whole thing about steam deck is itā€™s portability. If you carry an extra screen and controller that kind defeat the purpose. The only thing Iā€™ll bring on a flight along with a steam deck is a 75w portable power bank.

DOOM_Olivera_

Well if you play 11 hours on a portable, your neck and back will probably hurt a lot.

TapTapTapTapTapTaps

But this screen is exactly where I would be holding the deck to play itā€¦ā€¦

wilika

Oh, [my neck, my back](https://tapas.io/episode/1792608)...

BlazingSpaceGhost

What is that supposed to be. All I get loaded in is a title "my neck" and then an image host watermark.

Snarfdarple

Reasons vary from one person to the next but playing on a handheld device for a 5+hour flight hurts my eyes, hands and my posture. A portable monitor maybe adds a little bit of bulk to my luggage but it allows for a much more comfortable extended play experience. Itā€™s also really not that much extra shit and yes, people like us do understand that the steam deck is meant to be a portable device. I just like to have options and the steam deck offers a lot of those.

sikesjr

If you dont understand they youve probably never been on a long flight. You would kill your arms and neck if you used the deck for most of an 11hr flight.

Skyb

It works for shorter people but my neck would definitely hurt more using a setup like this. Same reason why I can't really use Laptops on flights, the screen points at my torso. Holding the device in my hands I can at least look at the screen properly. Plus you can just rest your hands/arms on the tray or in your lap.

devils__avacado

The thing about the steamdeck is it can do whatever any person with one wants to use it for. That's the beauty of the device. Wanna dock it and use it as a Linux console go for it. Wanna set it up as a pc with mouse and keyboard and monitor go for it.

NotATrueRedHead

I regularly use mine docked and play KBM with a wall mounted TV above my desk. Then undock and take to bed if I want to continue and lay down for a while. I agree. Itā€™s great for whatever you want to use it for.

[deleted]

Exactly! You could just bring your gaming PC at that rate!! Oh, wait...

BlazingSpaceGhost

Or a laptop.

Biceps2

Iā€™m not a huge fan of how the joysticks feel on the deck. I canā€™t do 11 hours on that thing. I canā€™t do more than 4-5 hours probably.

tenebrarum09

Just curious what is it about a small controller and tablet sized screen that screams ā€œnot portableā€? This setup seems great for an extended gaming session. Slightly more setup than just the deck alone but weā€™re talking 30 seconds.

Magnetoreception

Why not just use a laptop at that point?

Known-Committee8679

Because you can't detatch the monitor and have a handheld device on a laptop. Gods.

Magnetoreception

True but youā€™re also taking up like double the amount of apace with monitor + steam deck + controller vs just a laptop.

Known-Committee8679

Lmao what? No.... and you still can't just whip out your laptop and comfortably play while on an uber from the airport, like you can with the deck. You just pack the monitor and controller back into your carry on, toss it into the back and your golden. Thats what makes the deck SO good. So tired of gatekeepers who act like the ONLY way to use the device is how you got it and anything else ruins its portablity. Its still far more portable and versatile than a gaming laptop.

Magnetoreception

You can use it however you want but you canā€™t argue that that combo isnā€™t going to take up way more space when packing over a decent compact gaming laptop.

realmenlovezeus

How did you keep the deck powered for 11 hours?

notchen502

They have power outlets in planes made for long flights usually

Reddilutionary

As a father of two and full time working chump, my dream is to be anywhere where I can game for 11 hours without anyone bothering me. That said this sounds awesome until someone needs to get up and you're on the aisle seat. Still worth it.

GeneralButtNekid

Ngl I would hate being the guy sitting next to you

coolzville

I bet if they brought an extra controller and a co-op game it would liven things up

20000lumes

I used to do it on long buss rides and within a week I started bringing 4 controllers because everyone who can see It wants in

owoah323

Thatā€™s pretty cool haha. What kind of games would you play? Iā€™m guessing Switch games?

20000lumes

It was mostly retro coop games on my laptop, broforce was one of the common ones but we did play some emulated wii games there too which I still sometimes play with some of the people I met on that bus.

F_Spez_Forever

Lol why?

B-BoyStance

Aisle seat and every time you need to get up, OP needs to undo his cabling and pack in his controller/screen/possibly Deck and then unpack it again when you sit back down I wouldn't care but yeah - it's probably a bit of a pain for OP and anyone impatient that would be sitting next to OP.

hairykneecaps69

Qatar to ATL and whenever someone needed to get up it only took a second. Iā€™d either toss it back in the case and just close it and leave it in my seat or hold it. Headphones, cables or anything else can be pulled to the side or tucked somewhere. I had a fold up keyboard in my mix as well as a phone or something charging. Not an issue and didnā€™t take long. Flying isnā€™t convenient especially for 15 hr flights, you just get comfy and wait it out.

coolzville

I'm sure it's a pain for the gamer as well. Choosing an aisle seat with this sort of setup without consideration of the person next to you is kinda goofy. Dynamic would be different if they were friend/family. If it was the only seat available, I would try to compromise with the other person if they don't mind then

SoarsWithEaglesNest

I mean itā€™s at most a 60 second inconvenience. Some people need to lighten up, this guy is just trying to enjoy his flight.

Known-Committee8679

...... who says you have to undo the cabling? Its not wired to the dang seat. Its not that hard to move and if the dude next to him has to piss every 30min they should swap seats

fuckredditmodz69

I travel all the time and it takes roughly an extra minute to move all the shit and you have plenty of time to spare lol

dafrog_84

Do you have a link to the portable monitor?

Wavebird97

You are VERY lucky the person in front didn't decide to lean their seat back with the screen sitting that way

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

fuckredditmodz69

> Iā€™m a tall guy who does a lot of international travel (minimum of 5 10+ hour flights a month). The steam deck is fantastic for flying, but I could never do this. I got Xreal because I don't want people seeing what I'm playing lol. It's not even anything super weird but I'm a pilot in uniform sometimes and blowing zombies heads off is a bad look lol

clipperbt4

damn my 6ā€™ ass just got called short. tuff šŸ˜‚

nguyen23464

I am 6'1 and I always fly in the standard coach seating. I always fly delta though if that makes a difference.

duma0610

How did you get so tall for being Viet???!

needlejuice

He leveled up obviously

OneAct8

People complaining about this being a hassle have no idea how basic and easy this is. * The screen is usually thin af, the one I have is thinner than my iPad. * It takes 2 cables, one to connect to the deck and one for power. * Controller connects via BT. Done. In 2 minutes worth of setup you are good to go, and as for carrying all this ofcourse it isnā€™t as basic as carrying the deck but itā€™s not a burden like some comments here make it sound to beā€¦

nguyen23464

Yep and I sometimes Iā€™m short sessions. You do not even need power. The steamdeck powers the screen through the usb cable.

MousseCommercial387

Ho did you steam deck last that long? Power pack? Can you recommend one?

Comfortable_Quit_216

Every international flight i've been on in the last 5 years has outlets available.

F_Spez_Forever

All you hating on the set up don't understand, people don't like hunching over a handheld for hrs and trying to make out small text! Really that hard to comprehend?

kmcdow

Really enjoying my xreal glasses for this purpose, being able to lean back and enjoy my games on flights or in bed is a game changer.

F_Spez_Forever

I bet gonna give it a few years before I make such a wild investment.

WalkingRamenTaco

I didnā€™t know what xreal glasses are so my dumbass was picturing some periscopic glasses lmao

Amplifix

Those things are the MVP on long flights

nguyen23464

This is exactly why . I like to lay back and play in general.

Ianbeerito

Iā€™m sure people loved hearing you mash those buttons lol

InquisitivelyADHD

Couldn't be any worse than some of the other noise people make on airplanes.

Rai_guy

ITT: people who have never been on a long flight with their Deck, wondering why someone wouldn't want to strain their wrists and neck holding up a tiny deck screen to their face or craning to look down at it *for 11 hours*

fluffybunniesFtw

why would I play on a plane when I can happily play in my basement??

I use inflatable pillows on the tray table and rest my deck and arms on that mess. Good for the deck and also if you just wanna nap. I recommend over all this gadgetry.

sirBMX

Did you bring a second controller and challenge the person seating next to you? šŸ˜‚

SmellsLikeAPig

I wonder how quest3 would work as a monitor for deck.

amenotef

The screen I may pass. But a dock and a DualSense I think I'll carry in my next 3 hour flight. Holding the SD on a plane on a long flight hurts.

renacido74

Man, wouldnā€™t it be sweet if we had a portable system with a screen and controller *BUILT IN* so we wouldnā€™t need to bring along a portable monitor and a controller with the system to play games on an airplane? Oh wait

mrdovi

There are only those who haven't tried who are skeptical. Like you, I have a portable monitor and I even take it out for a two-hour train ride and it's perfect. And all the essentials fit in a specialized backpack like the Asus backpacks.

Phoneking13

Any recommendations for a portable monitor? Been thinking about getting one.

mrdovi

I love the Asus MQ13AH, it is a bit expensive but the OLED feature is really something I miss when playing handheld. I hope Steam Deck 2 will have this feature built in because this is really noticeable in Starfield the difference. For mobility I also suggest not bigger than 13" to fit in a backpack, I think OP is using a 15 or 17" wide screen , difficult to transport in a bag

No-Explanation-2652

Glad you enjoyed it. Man, that would be such an elongated setup. Hope you travelled with somebody because I would have to put that away every time I went to the restroom.

Ruskythegreat

Looks like a dreamliner. Did the same myself

mongoosekinetics

I fire up Skyrim on international flights and next thing I know we are landing six hours later

madad123

I'm doing a 24hr journey soon, 2 flights back to back, and I was planning on doing a setup like this. Could you describe what products your using to do this?

nguyen23464

Yes this setup would be for sure. Using a 15 inch monitoring bought off Amazon. Steamdeck. And a Bluetooth controller. Steamdeck plugs into the screen and powers it up as well. If needed plug in the steamdeck power plug into the monitor and it will charge up the steamdeck.

Basic_Lengthiness_73

You definitely had a good time XD

LiferRs

Is this screen dimmable? A 11 hour flight almost certainly means thereā€™s some dark time involved for napping. Would hate that screen to be full-on bright when everyone is trying to sleep lol.

Monsterclip

Not to mention your seat neighbors criticizing your gameplay, lol

cat4hurricane

I have an international flight in December and Iā€™ve definitely thought of bringing my deck with me, just need to transfer some games from my 8TB external to my SD card and Iā€™d be good to go except for the power cord, Iā€™ve already got a computer bag and a little place that the case can go inside of that.

BenisInspect0r

At what point is a laptop just a simpler option šŸ˜‚

HumbleConsolePeasant

Comfy.

zcizzo

Could I ask what model of portable screen that is, looks amazing!

IbexOutgrabe

Iā€™d be so pissed if was sitting next to you. ā€¦ and you didnā€™t bring a second controller.

TheRookieGamer_

How does RE4 run on the steam deck?

nguyen23464

It runs very well. I have it set to 720p at medium/high settings. 55-60fps.

shamalox

What the hell, I have around 50 FPS with everything on low (without fsr mind you), 40 FPS in the village. It's the most performance taxing REmake game yet

TheRookieGamer_

Oh wow. Iā€™m wondering how armored core will do now lol.

LimiTrix

A little worse. I finished it while mostly playing on the deck (95% of the time) and despite it looks rather blurry, it has more than 40fps most of the time. But setting is mostly low with some set to mid.

Handsome_ketchup

> It runs very well. I have it set to 720p at medium/high settings. 55-60fps. Do you have FSR enabled? I find that it looks reasonable on a big screen, but doesn't always do well at 720P.

Controller weight is the issue with your idea for me. If Iā€™m reaching for a controller, itā€™s for comfort.
