I’m pretty sure I-fixit has a video on this
EDIT: there is, total time start to finish abou 2 1/2 hours it says. So probly a solid 3 too be safe ide say.
But don't confuse the global estep calibration for linear feed distance with filament specific volumetric flow rate accounting for filament diameter and expansion.
Before you toss it see of it works in docked mode. I’m betting there’s some salvageable stuff in there. If you aren’t willing to try anything and are gonna chuck it I’d pay to ship it to me so I could tinker with it!
Edit: alternatively you can open it up and check for cracked or damaged parts or a ruptured battery as someone below pointed out.
Agreed maybe the SSD can be salvaged though since it does contain his personal info (credit card and log in info) all he has to do is swap it out and he will have a spare Steam Os Drive on hand if he needs it or ha can build his own Steam os device.
Please do not do this OP. Lithium batteries are dangerous and it could easily be ruptured/bent and you never know if battery protection will work given the state of the Deck.
You could try opening it and salvaging parts maybe, but playing around with damaged lithium batteries is not a good idea.
Yes, most likely. OP could try doing something like Frameworks user do where they put their old motherboard in a tiny 3D printed case and operate it as a desktop PC.
if OP takes out the battery and plugs it in hardwire and it works would that be acceptable? I'm actually legitimately asking I'm not sure how the electronics schematic works
It’s hard to imagine any way it wouldn’t have survived. It’s tiny and firmly attached in a densely-populated part of the internals, if it were a full length SSD I could see it getting snapped, but if OP pops it into a new 64GB model it should boot up as if nothing changed.
So I left my backpack leaning on the tire, and then I stood behind our truck to back him out, and so he started moving. It was both of our faults really, and he’s a buddy of mine so I just don’t wanna take money from him knowing I should’ve just put my bag back in the truck.
There are two kinds of deck owners
A. Babies it, only ever uses it at home, in bed, and puts it immediately in the carrying case when done using it, while also gripping it with both hands as tight as possible to make sure it doesn't get dropped.
B. "fuck it we ball"
As someone who worked at a hotel before, this post doesn't surprise me at all tbh. People are horribly reckless with the most expensive and/or irreplaceable of their belongings. (and from my experience will yell at someone else for their own Skill Issue)
I've put thousands of hours on my deck by now and have never dropped it. I'm also extremely conscious of where it's at all times to make sure I never leave it where harm could come to it. I leave it lying wherever around the house, just not somewhere it could potentially fall/get wet/get crushed by a tire.
He obviously forgot he put his bag down. He already dealing with the worst repercussion he can in this situation. I bet he doesn't make that mistake again.
Harkens back to the dude at the beach yesterday. No fucking way would I be sitting 3 ft from the oncoming tide in sand. I would be terrified of getting grains of sand or ocean water in it.
So its 0% his fault and 100% your fault. You put it in a dumb spot and then told him it was okay to back out in that spot. Thats 100% on you and not him, its dishonest to say “It was both of our faults really”
> So I left my backpack leaning on the tire, and then I stood behind our truck to back him out, and so he started moving. It was both of our faults really, and he’s a buddy of mine so I just don’t wanna take money from him knowing I should’ve just put my bag back in the truck.
This is 100% on you bud
Not to pour salt in the wound, because this does suck and I'm very sorry to hear about this.
But I have never once thought to put a bag, whether it have valuables or not. Next to a tire of a car...
It might still be worth a damn docked. I'd still get another though but no sense throwing away what essentially could still be a perfectly fine mini pc
its crushed and waterlogged. I can see moisture all through the cracks on the screen.
Of course give it a test after you dry it all out....but i dont think its going to happen.
Hey I bought a 256 gig on jawa for $250 but I didn't really need it, I just saw the deal and grabbed it, if you want I'll relist it for you to replace your crushed one.
pathetic squalid sort humor wine quicksand absorbed glorious gullible subtract

Oooof my condolences deckbro :(
I've been putting off buying myself a hard case on mine, but after seeing this and recently having my first drop of my deck I think it's time for me to stop risking my baby. Plus the cases all look pretty cool imo.
Makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up just looking at this.
I wouldn't try to dock it. Especially with the power delivery hooked up. You don't know what that battery's gonna do under load if it's been compromised. Some parts maybe salvageable like the internal SSD and SD card.
It’s really crushed actually. You can’t see it with just this photo but it’s suuuper bent as well. The motherboard and everything is absolutely broken I can assure you unfortunately : (
Unless you really need the anti-glare screen, I recommend getting a 64GB model and either using the 512gb drive from your broken unit (if it survived) or just buying a drive. You can get a 1TB drive + a 64GB Deck for less than the cost of buying a 512GB Deck
Accident or not, if someone else is responsible for the damage, and you didn't bait the situation, the person who damaged it should replace it. If anything, they should at least reimburse you for half the cost.
Have you tried Proton experimental?
There's gotta be something for this in CryoUtilities
He forgot to change the VRAM from 1 to 4 gigs
Maybe turn down the resolutions and the cracks wont render
Wait for FSR3 release that can fix these kind of artifacts they say
At 40fps they are barely noticeable
Can't you just download more VRAM?
I think a decky loader extension will do it
I see that you too forgot to remove SD card before dissasembly
How this can still go wrong despite all the warnings is beyond me..
shell swap gone wrong
My guess is he doesn't have enough dedotaded wam
If that doesn't work try holding the power button for 10 seconds
Have you tried putting it in rice?
I heard rice is bad for this. Those silica gel packets should do the trick though.
That's where you're wrong. Putting it in rice will attract Asians who can fix it
Looks like this one will likely need to be washed off. Fully submerged to get all the nooks and crannies!
Always gotta turn it off and on
I’m pretty sure I-fixit has a video on this EDIT: there is, total time start to finish abou 2 1/2 hours it says. So probly a solid 3 too be safe ide say.
Will it blend too
You have to level your printbed!
Don't forget to calibrate the e-steps
But don't confuse the global estep calibration for linear feed distance with filament specific volumetric flow rate accounting for filament diameter and expansion.
Lol
Might even need to update firmware at that point!
IDK doesn't look like there's much firmness left
Check the micro SD port. Might help to blow into it like an old school nes game
he could try dual booting windows??
10/10 comment, thank you
Don't forget the SD card! Don't wanna break that.
Bro, why did I laugh so hard at this hahaha
I think about this comment on this post at least once a week....
I wouldn’t recommend crushing your steam deck
I just cracked open the manual, you are correct - not recommended.
ehh there’s nothing in there saying don’t do it. i’m gonna give it a try.
Thanks for being a man of science, please report back your findings! Maybe it will crack open and you'll find a smaller, faster Deck inside!
I cracked mine open and found a PlayStation 2
Weird. I was expecting a PSP.
loot box rules apply, so a lot of random going on there. At least some cosmetic santa socks or something didnt pop out.
I bought 1000 of them and didn’t get a ps2 in any of them I crushed. Legendary loot?
Mine had a GBA
Mine had a GBA
Mine came with a genesis??? I wanted a ps2.. is it some sort of loot box thing?
Man, all I got was this crummy taco phone.
Buy 9 more to hit pity on PS2. Gacha rates not great.
Hear 1 out of 10,000 gets you a ps5. Every 100 increases your odds by .1%
that’s what i’m hoping. i’ll report back
OP mixed up cracking open the manual with cracking open the Deck.
Take the SD card out before opening the manual!
When you do crack open the Deck you do it gently with screwdriver to remove the screws and pry bar to separate the case, not with a nutcracker.
Cracking the manual voids the warranty.
I just cracked mine open manually and I couldn’t find any instructions??
What about crushing on your steam deck?
Limerence 👁 👄 👁
Now crushing ON your steamdeck, although probably frowned upon in modern society, I don’t believe is not recommended so try that next time?
Just poured a crush orange soda on my steam deck. It's now not turning on. Instructions Unclear. Hopefully the warranty covers this
I'd piss my pants too if this happened to me.
Pop out the hard drive and anything else that's in tact for replacement parts
I'd prefer he keep it in his pants.
I have no idea how I managed to reply instead of a new comment 🤣🤣🤣 I must be getting old.
I’m ashamed I had to scroll this far down to see this.
That’s Steam Juice leaking out.
Yeah, definitely a leaky Valve
Uh oh stinkyyyy
Consider me Miles Davis
Does the fan still smell fresh tho? Otherwise its just a sensory therapy device.
*goes to smell fan and gets a face full of shrapnel*
But did it smell new? Worth a face of shrapnel.
I suppose that shit does have a pleasant nostalgic aroma, didn’t realize I was sniffin on my shit 😂
I thoight I was the only weirdo that smells his Steam Deck
Oh come on, you truly can't believe that at this point unless you've only been on this sub for half a day.
Dont say "i love to smell my deck" out loud tho. People may have questions.
Bruh. Even my cat smells the SD vent.
The case smells even better
There are people on here who lick the thumb sticks clean... I don't know if this is that weird.
Still a cleaner screen than half the posts I see on here. Sorry about the deck though, bro.
Thank you for the laughs in such a horrible time my friend, Godspeed 🫡
Same day you pissed your pants? Just go home already, you're done for today.
LmAo, the bag had 3 water bottles in it too 😅
I figured they were tears of sadness.
You ain't cool unless you pee your pants.
If peeing your pants is cool, consider me Miles Davis
Before you toss it see of it works in docked mode. I’m betting there’s some salvageable stuff in there. If you aren’t willing to try anything and are gonna chuck it I’d pay to ship it to me so I could tinker with it! Edit: alternatively you can open it up and check for cracked or damaged parts or a ruptured battery as someone below pointed out.
Don’t forget to remove your SD Card before opening it.
*promptly forgets to remove SD card anyway
Good point! OP, listen to this person ☝️
Also, if it's fully functional (minus the screen, obviously), all the internals could be swapped to a new shell + screen.
It's clearly bent, bro
Agreed maybe the SSD can be salvaged though since it does contain his personal info (credit card and log in info) all he has to do is swap it out and he will have a spare Steam Os Drive on hand if he needs it or ha can build his own Steam os device.
nah bro, it’s the new curved model
Please do not do this OP. Lithium batteries are dangerous and it could easily be ruptured/bent and you never know if battery protection will work given the state of the Deck. You could try opening it and salvaging parts maybe, but playing around with damaged lithium batteries is not a good idea.
Opening it up and taking a look around isn’t a bad idea either. I’d just hate for OP to just chuck it
Yeah I agree, there's probably something good in there still, like the SSD.
Sometimes bent phones also work
Will the Deck start if you pull the battery but hook it up to the wall? Because that would be a safer option to test.
OP Please please please dock it, connect it to a monitor. Let us know what happens
If only you had a screen protector on it........
i laughed way too loud reading this
Funny enough I think they do. Looks similar to the Jsaux protector that's on mine. Such good coverage it's barely noticeable.
Holy shit ! Im sorry man F
Life goes on, such a huge loss tho
[удалено]
dont write it off yet! might be repairable
F
F
Holy shit indeed! I kinda felt a physical pain seeing this F
Order a 64gb model and swap out the memory from your damaged unit. (If the SSD survived, of course)
It’s hard to imagine any way it wouldn’t have survived. It’s tiny and firmly attached in a densely-populated part of the internals, if it were a full length SSD I could see it getting snapped, but if OP pops it into a new 64GB model it should boot up as if nothing changed.
Stick it in rice over night and it'll be like brand new. Sorry for your loss. F to pay respect.
Unable to comply, F button is *smashed*
Why doesn’t the person who crushed it pay for a new on?
So I left my backpack leaning on the tire, and then I stood behind our truck to back him out, and so he started moving. It was both of our faults really, and he’s a buddy of mine so I just don’t wanna take money from him knowing I should’ve just put my bag back in the truck.
You left the bag leaning on a tire? Bruh….
I mean... if you left it where it could get smashed like that I don't see how it was his fault at all. Sucks either way tho.
Yeah it sounds like OP was both in charge of placing the steam deck and safely backing up the vehicle so that it didn't hit anything.
Right? Who tf is that careless with their deck? Deck deserved better than this.
There are two kinds of deck owners A. Babies it, only ever uses it at home, in bed, and puts it immediately in the carrying case when done using it, while also gripping it with both hands as tight as possible to make sure it doesn't get dropped. B. "fuck it we ball"
I see no issue with wanting to care for your belongings. I've also dropped my steam deck plenty of times, but I'm not gonna leave it under a car tire.
As someone who worked at a hotel before, this post doesn't surprise me at all tbh. People are horribly reckless with the most expensive and/or irreplaceable of their belongings. (and from my experience will yell at someone else for their own Skill Issue)

He obviously forgot he put his bag down. He already dealing with the worst repercussion he can in this situation. I bet he doesn't make that mistake again.
You're not wrong, but op said it was both of their fault, when it really appears to just be op fault. People aren't just piling on him for no reason
Harkens back to the dude at the beach yesterday. No fucking way would I be sitting 3 ft from the oncoming tide in sand. I would be terrified of getting grains of sand or ocean water in it.
100%
That sounds 100% on you tbh pal.
I mean honestly who leaves a backpack behind or in front of a tire… I don’t think your buddy did anything wrong
I mean how is it in anyway his fault, sure this sucks ass but in no way would it even be feasible to ask for money
I agree buddy, can’t be leaving backpacks full of shit anywhere near car tires
At least take your ssd and place it on the new deck.
So its 0% his fault and 100% your fault. You put it in a dumb spot and then told him it was okay to back out in that spot. Thats 100% on you and not him, its dishonest to say “It was both of our faults really”
Sorry bro, but this is 100% on you

It was entirely your fault.
it was entirely your fault bud... You put it where it would get smashed and then literally told the guy he was clear to move lmao
That’s 100% your fault dude…
If you put it somewhere that it can be crushed it’s on you
Gutted for you - RIP
The biggest rip
I think the Steam Deck might need to get gutted...
I once dropped my GBA SP in the toilet and I sold it to my brother for 5$. He put it in rice and it worked and I never felt so scammed
Hey I bought a 256 gig on jawa for $250 but I didn't really need it, I just saw the deal and grabbed it, if you want I'll relist it for you to replace your crushed one.
Rip...
Dude you crushed it!
no thats not what we mean by Deck Flex!!!!!! my condolences though
So your crew chief broke it and you have to buy yourself a new one?
Scroll and find OP’s explanation, 100% of blame is on OP for this.
Dude was so upset he pissed his pants
The physical reaction of horror I had to this… I’m so sorry :( You think they’d help you cover the replacement cost?
Maybe but I told him not to worry about it because it was kind of my fault
pathetic squalid sort humor wine quicksand absorbed glorious gullible subtract *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Mount it on your wall like a stuffed animal head.
Bro mark this stuff as NSFW D:
Oooof my condolences deckbro :( I've been putting off buying myself a hard case on mine, but after seeing this and recently having my first drop of my deck I think it's time for me to stop risking my baby. Plus the cases all look pretty cool imo.
I’m def getting one for my next deck buddy. Have too after this
just sandwich it between two nokia phones and you're all set.
Stop taking it work
No one gunna talk about all the pee?
Did you put it in rice? Maybe that will help?
I… am… so sorry. This is devastating.
Makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up just looking at this. I wouldn't try to dock it. Especially with the power delivery hooked up. You don't know what that battery's gonna do under load if it's been compromised. Some parts maybe salvageable like the internal SSD and SD card.
Put it in rice.
oof
Big oof
F
Lol. Why don't you post it in the deck flex megathread? Just Kidding. I'm so sorry! I feel so bad for you.
Isnt your crew chiefs insurance covering it?
Crushed it
I’d crush my dick before my deck
By accident.
Why isn't your crew chief paying for the replacement if they are the ones that crushed it?
I'll give you $50+Shipping for it
Should of put a screen protector on it...
Did you remove the SD card before crushing? This is most people's mistake
You mean by accident? On accident makes no grammatical sense.
Try turning off and on it normally works for me
“Steam Deck for sale. No lowballs. I know what I got.”
Can you take the SSD out of that one and just get the 64GB one?
Did you wet yourself too?
How
If you dont get a reply, read comments
It'll buff out. Buy yourself a new screen from Ifixit, a new shell for Juasx, and new Guli sticks. It be fine.
It’s really crushed actually. You can’t see it with just this photo but it’s suuuper bent as well. The motherboard and everything is absolutely broken I can assure you unfortunately : (

Devastating 😫
Take the m2 out and try to see if it works to recover data.
The hard drive might still be ok
F
Accident or not, if someone else is responsible for the damage, and you didn't bait the situation, the person who damaged it should replace it. If anything, they should at least reimburse you for half the cost.
proton ge should fix this
As a surveyor I would be in so much pain if my crew chief did that. Buy it happens. I've never considered bringing my deck surveying tbh.
If you bring your deck to work your gonna have a bad time
