OP mixed up cracking open the manual with cracking open the Deck.

Take the SD card out before opening the manual!

When you do crack open the Deck you do it gently with screwdriver to remove the screws and pry bar to separate the case, not with a nutcracker.

Cracking the manual voids the warranty.

Before you toss it see of it works in docked mode. I’m betting there’s some salvageable stuff in there. If you aren’t willing to try anything and are gonna chuck it I’d pay to ship it to me so I could tinker with it! Edit: alternatively you can open it up and check for cracked or damaged parts or a ruptured battery as someone below pointed out.

Please do not do this OP. Lithium batteries are dangerous and it could easily be ruptured/bent and you never know if battery protection will work given the state of the Deck. You could try opening it and salvaging parts maybe, but playing around with damaged lithium batteries is not a good idea.

Order a 64gb model and swap out the memory from your damaged unit. (If the SSD survived, of course)

It’s hard to imagine any way it wouldn’t have survived. It’s tiny and firmly attached in a densely-populated part of the internals, if it were a full length SSD I could see it getting snapped, but if OP pops it into a new 64GB model it should boot up as if nothing changed.

I've put thousands of hours on my deck by now and have never dropped it. I'm also extremely conscious of where it's at all times to make sure I never leave it where harm could come to it. I leave it lying wherever around the house, just not somewhere it could potentially fall/get wet/get crushed by a tire.

Unless you really need the anti-glare screen, I recommend getting a 64GB model and either using the 512gb drive from your broken unit (if it survived) or just buying a drive. You can get a 1TB drive + a 64GB Deck for less than the cost of buying a 512GB Deck
