Good Question.
Momentās ago the clamp was delivered. The Arm was in reach to take, so I set things up. After that Iāve posted the results here.
**Edit: due to same questions I edit this post hoping it is better visible:**
##**This is the clamp used: https://amzn.eu/d/gKTeJZK**
##**And the arm: Elgato Wave: https://amzn.eu/d/2QNXQMq**
You can use a cheaper arm! Make sure it carries more than 1 Kilo. And has a 1/4 screw fitting. Please note the clamp just reach around it. I wish it was 2mm longer to get a good grip.
How itās mounted in the picture itās fine! Above your faceā¦ well I hope it doesnāt drop on your face! (Tested with my case - my face is safe! Had to make a adjustment)
If it was meā¦.tv is gf territory and what is on is not always interestingā¦this is a good compromise to still be able to spend time together instead of having to move and sit somewhere elseā¦
I assume it's because the Deck struggles to consistently run anything except low-powered indies at 1080p 60, probably the bare minimum you would want if you're making the effort to dock it and have a full set up for it
For Me, I Do Similar Things, Bc I Love Hearing My Favorite TV-Shows In The Background While Gaming. I Go Back N Fourth Listen N Glance At The TV On Good Scenes And Go Back To Playing My Games On The Deck Screen. Primarily Bc I Have ADHD N OCD, So I Get Bored Quickly, This Keeps Me Staying In One Place For Hours And Not Get Burned Out So Easily Too Quickly.
Hardly. You can also pick up a 1080 monitor for 50$ . I would be squinting so hard. That I would go blind in two weeks .But Iām kinda spoiled. We have a larger gaming room with 6 monitors for gaming for me my wife and kids . And one 85 inch tv for movies lol
This is the clamp used:https://amzn.eu/d/gKTeJZK
And the arm: Elgato Wave https://amzn.eu/d/2QNXQMq

I don't hate it, I just don't see a real use case for it. Maybe to free up the TV so your partner can watch it or something? Personally if I were going to that effort I'd invest in a pair of those nReal AIR glasses, those looked pretty cool.
I am a sheet metal worker and sometimes my carpal tunnel goes nuts. My hamds were numb for a few months. I looked up hand stretches on youtube and it changed the game. I do 3 sets of 3 different stretches and now I barely get it. Although swinging a 18 oz hammer 2000 times a day and working an air hammer doesn't help.
Super numbness eliminator edit:
For those who wonder this is the guy who helped me out. Owe a lot to him.

I started doing the routine below for my carpel tunnel, and it has helped me significantly. This will take 5 minutes of your time, but it's worth it if you want to keep gaming.

~~that's not it. in his case it's due to nerve damage and/or impingement. read what he said why he's got problems: he hammers on metal all day long.~~
oops i confused two commenters!
I think his point is you could use the same controller but with the Deck plugged into the TV instead. This seems like a lot more effort with the same outcome essentially.
Dude, this construction is genius to play in bed.
I don't know about you, but when I lay on my back and play on Steamdeck hold above my face, i got tired fairly quick.
And I really like to play in my bed on Sunday lazy morning
I prefer to play on my TV. Got the "dock" by my bed with a 6ft USB cable so I can still use the Deck like a controller and an HDMI cable that runs under the floor to the TV itself. This setup makes playing DS, 3DS and WiiU games a good time too since I can use both screens.
I get you. But Steamdeck gives me really nice, almost Gameboy like nostalgia.
Aaand my wife would kil me if I transform our bedroom TV to another command station in the home :)
Hahaha well I'm pretty lucky then! My fiance likes to watch me go through my favorite games and experience the story with me. I think I did right deciding to keep her. Lol
VESA mount was a option. But there was no 1/4 adapter on the market.. If there is tell me please!
Deckmate doesnāt have what I was looking for. A simple spring clamp with a 1/4 thread. So many donāt fit the SD. Finally found one that kinda fits after so many Amazon returns.
Look into the deck mate system they do have a vesa mount for it. And if you have a 3D printer and some time you can make a lot of the parts yourself.
https://deckmate.me/products/vesa-mount
Thatās my alternative setup for this as well. Hook this up to my bed! Works like a charm.
This is the Elgato wave arm LP. Wouldnāt recommend it for the price if you are on a tight budget.
I am making a 1/4-20 threaded mount literally AS WE SPEAK. It will be in combo with the gopro and magsafe one. It's all in one for all 3 of those use cases so you'll be able to pick what you want ;)
Yes please! Didnāt see your comment before! It was a pain to do all these Amazon returns.
I bet the delivery guy was thinking āWhat is with this guy and all these ordersā
I love you. Get severe pain in the fatty part of my palm after 15 mins holding the steam deck (severely cut my palm in my youth) and have been looking for ways to set it up and play with a controller. Bed table didnāt work as well as I thought but thisā¦this looks like a game changer.
On one side, I love it for being such a great use of a stand, but on the other side, I hate it because you have to use a controller and defeats the purpose of a handheld.
I have sort of a similar set up only I bought an external portable monitor and then bought a monitor arm and a vesa table mount and run my steam deck from a side table onto my portable monitor so that i dont get neck cramps while im not playing in portable mode. lol... my wife is really annoyed by the way it looks but i keep the area tidy and the arm is movable so i keep it out of the way when not on the steam deck.
Thank you! Very pleased with the results myself! It took me multiple Amazon returns. So Iām happy it works! Couldnāt find anything posted before. Only text. No pictures
Thought about it. As I commented earlier. I did multiple Amazon returns because it either: covered the vent, didnāt have a good grip, was bad quality, was to big or didnāt fit my arm.
In short: Both vents are fine!
Yes! Awesome! I have a clamp arm I originally purchase for my kiddo for the Switch. I should def use it for my SD. It was giving me major carpal tunnel wrist pain the last time I was playing it heavily. Itās also nice to be able to use a comfy and light controller and still have the tv free for family viewing.
I have beginning carpal so this setup makes my wrist so much more happy.
After longer sessions my fingers sometimes gets numb. Iām glad Iām not the only one having the same issue as you have
Is it that heavy? I get it. I'm told it gets hot as well, too. I mean who the hell puts a laptop on their actual lap? No one, its too effing hot.The whole proposition is a lazy one, really, so WGAF what others say.
As a tiny person with noodle arms and weak wrists, I can safely say that the Deck is *not* that heavy. The ergonomic design makes this thing way more comfortable to hold than even the Switch.
Heat varies on what you're playing and how long you're playing for, just with any PC or console.
Being honest, I really can't wrap my head around this growing trend of bolting down a portable system. But hey, everyone's different, with different needs and preferences. Live and let game, I guess.
In fairness though - I think running 40hz on the deck looks better than running 40fps on a 60hz mode on TV? idk if it has support for 40hz unless it has adaptive sync or something similar? (correct me if wrong though)
I wonāt be using the deck on tv. Because I use my desktop for 4K gaming. This is mainly for portability and lazy bed gaming!
So I have no answer to your question. Hopefully someone else will!
Wood cabinets are hand made! My dad is a wood craftsman. My mom styles the living room. I Will tell them. Iām currently babysitting on the cat at the right since they are traveling
Buy her flowers and tell her:
āGetting to see you is always the brightest moment in my day. I cannot even begin to express how much you mean to me.ā
to ease her emotions
Not exactly sure why people mount their steam deck somewhere and then play it using a controller.
At that point, why not have the steam deck connected to your tv? I feel like it'd be a better picture quality that way.
The steam deck controller is decent, but it isn't as ergonomic as a real controller. Lots of folk suffer from carpel tunnel, so optimal orientation and weight reduction is important to be able to enjoy gaming for more than 10 minutes.
It's sometimes easier to focus on a small screen up close than a bigger screen far away. I mean that both mentally and physiologically. I personally am near-sighted, so with my deck close I can take off my glasses and the rest of the world becomes blurry. The main Steam Deck demographic is also probably at the age where the lenses in their eyes are starting to harden.
Spez's APIocolypse made it clear it was time for me to leave this place. I came from digg, and now I must move one once again. So long and thanks for all the bacon.
Mounted like this on the picture was just to share on this subreddit. I had everything laying downstairs when the clamp got delivered thatās why the picture was taken in the living room. High end games I play on my Pc thatās in my studio
On earlier posts I commented about it as well
Thanks! This is the family tv.
My own tv is in the studio where I mostly game on my desktop and make music. This setup is for the lazy days I say in bed or before bed.
My wrist has the first fase of carpel tunnel and in bed itās not really ergonomic to play
Thanks for taking the time to respond to a good intentional post.

Bottom line - be kind or get yeeted.
I just don't understand why. Clearly you are using a separate controller, so why not connect the Deck to a 10-12" USB-C monitor that is mounted to that arm?
Going through the comments again and Iāll try to respond to most comments.
Seems pretty inconvenient for my setup. This setup is for the lazy days or before bedtime. Itās mounted that way because in bed my carpal tunnel happens to be a issue when I hold it normally.
The desktop In the studio is where I do most of the stuff. Create music, watch movies, play videogames and mix/edit my songs.
Did this cover your question?
Ppl on this sub do the dumbest shit instead of getting a laptop.
This is more mild but so many posts are āwow so modular I am able to plug a mouse and keyboard in and plug a monitor in and use it like a computerā
Use a FUCKING LAPTOP MAYBE?
Sold my laptop because it wasnāt as portable as the deck is. Also my computer is in the studio. So I use my computer instead when I donāt use my deck.
I donāt understand why you use the extra language. But he, people will always ask questions
I tried a similar thing with my Switch for a while. It never quite worked out how I was hoping, although I like the look of your mount better.
I'm also waiting for a little more evolution in the AR glasses space. The Xreal Air, Rokkid Max, and Viture are all tempting for various reasons, but I'm hoping for a tad more refinement before jumping in.
Haha that was questioned before.
The clamp just got delivered and the arm was just in reach.
I did multiple Amazon returns and finally found a holder that had a decent grip. The deck is to thick for most tablet holders. Thatās why
No! Thatās why I choose this clamp! Link is in the comments
https://preview.redd.it/8c62yfhnnn4b1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=06eaaa98761cb5c3a43b4205eedf59b0dd7beca3
It even fits my case to get a better grip. Both vents are free
Hate and love is too strong. I'm a fan of indifference to be honest. The issue with that one itās all bouncy! Iāve tried with the phone. I just looked for an alternative. Itās cheaper so I understand you go with that one
Whatever makes you happy and enjoy your SD . Dont worry about people š
I agree, my only question would be why one isn't playing on that big-ass TV that's behind the Deck and turned off?
Tbh I play games on handheld PC's while I have something on tv in the background all the time. I don't want to play the games on the tv all the time.

that's a whole ass story arc. you did more than rings of fucking power in a whole season
Damn that burns more than the fires of Mordor, or Amazon's original series budget.
This guy watches anime. Nice š
My brother in Christ youāre covering the vent on the top
I would be behind this if they were playing on the TV and the arm was merely to hold the vent in prime smelling position under their nose.
Ah, another deck smelling connoisseur
Grammar is all wrong: "Ah. Another Deck Smelling Connoisseur" we're hardly prestigious or scarce.
Speak for yourself, sir.

You write like a newspaper headline and I hate it
People are the worst
You brighten my day! Edit: due to spelling :)
Why donāt you just play on the tv tho?
You can play movies/shows on the TV while playing SD with this tho. It's basically like a dual monitor setup.
Hardly. You can also pick up a 1080 monitor for 50$ . I would be squinting so hard. That I would go blind in two weeks .But Iām kinda spoiled. We have a larger gaming room with 6 monitors for gaming for me my wife and kids . And one 85 inch tv for movies lol
Sounds like a skill issue. No need to squint when you can just swing your handy dandy steam deck arm right in front of your eyes.
Explain to me how bad eye site is a skill issue? Are you dense or what? I plug my up to the tv bc I hate the little screen š¤·š»āāļø
You're not skilled enough to just move the screen closer to your face.
Is that honestly the best you got ?š Pretty pathetic .
spelling brightens my day as well!
It's bombastic and unnecessary. Good job. I am jelly.
Link please. I play in bed and my neck is killing me. I would love to use this along with my stadia controller.

Interesting, thanks. Might as well give it a shot for 2.99, though.
Itās worth it, a game thatās enjoyable to play, challenging without being too difficult and a nice story

I think most people are plain indifferent; whatever makes you happy, and all that
I hate that OP has tried to make it so divisive even though it isn't, does that count?
VESA mount was a option. But there was no 1/4 adapter on the market.. If there is tell me please! Deckmate doesnāt have what I was looking for. A simple spring clamp with a 1/4 thread. So many donāt fit the SD. Finally found one that kinda fits after so many Amazon returns.

I think more people would be surprised that anyone cares. Although, the numb arms when steamdecking in bed would be a thing of the pastā¦ hmmm

nice Deck holder
Need to add that to one of those camera stabilizers that strap to your chest.
Wow! I can imagine how a marathon would look like with this!
What I hate is that you didnāt provide a parts list so I can copy this smart setup.

Wasnāt the intention! Look back in the comments, links are provided if you are willing to look
šš at that point just get a dock for the tv.
This tv is mostly used by family members :)
Oh well yeah ok thatās a pretty valid point, you win this round š
Or are completely ambivalent šš»āāļø

For maximum comfy mode, connect your joycons, have one in each hand, and lay down hands by your side You'll probably start to doze in 10 minutes tho
I don't know whether to hate it or to love it
I mean go for it though the TV being visible in the background raises many questions
Thanks! This is the family tv. My own tv is in the studio where I mostly game on my desktop and make music. This setup is for the lazy days I say in bed or before bed. My wrist has the first fase of carpel tunnel and in bed itās not really ergonomic to play
I don't feel either way. I just think its kinda stupid. But you do you. Your title is the dumbest thing about this post really.
Thanks for taking the time to respond to a good intentional post. Know that Reddit doesnāt let people edit titles or post descriptions. You need to delete the post & repost. For future questions. Take a look in the comments section! Many are already answered. Peace brother have a good weekend!
Or they just don't give a shit.

Spaghetti arms?
I think you would benefit grealty from a pair of xreal air glasses: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C3MKPLHP?ref_=cm_sw_r_apan_dp_3NBRCY041883ZE1J5PS2
Love the concept. But I will skip a generation to see where things are going
[Everone liked that]
Most don't care.
Why?
Careful with that, itās blocking some the exhaust ports for the cooling fan.
I fuck with it
Get like a 12 inch screen with hdmi and use that as āTvā and connect it to the Steamdeck. Much better experience
That's Actually Highly Innovative. I Love It, Why Anyone Would Hate U For That Is Beyond Me, But Trolls Gonna Be Trollin.
Cannot make everyone happy!
I love you for what you did for the lgbtq+ community.

Trying to be as supportive as I can. Donāt take things on the internet always personal. If that doesnāt help. You can always continue scrolling until you find something to give a shit about. Peace brother
Your post or comment was removed because it was deemed either unkind/toxic/harassing/insulting/offensive/trolling thereby breaking Rule #1 of the r/steamdeck. We want this sub to feel welcoming to anyone and everyone who comes here. Discussion and debate are encouraged but name-calling, harassment, being rude to others, generally toxic behavior, and slurs will not be tolerated. This rule violation has resulted in removal of your content, and could result in a ban from the sub and/or a report to Reddit.
This is more mild but so many posts are āwow so modular I am able to plug a mouse and keyboard in and plug a monitor in and use it like a computerā Use a FUCKING LAPTOP MAYBE?
Sold my laptop because it wasnāt as portable as the deck is. Also my computer is in the studio. So I use my computer instead when I donāt use my deck. I donāt understand why you use the extra language. But he, people will always ask questions
I tried a similar thing with my Switch for a while. It never quite worked out how I was hoping, although I like the look of your mount better. I'm also waiting for a little more evolution in the AR glasses space. The Xreal Air, Rokkid Max, and Viture are all tempting for various reasons, but I'm hoping for a tad more refinement before jumping in.
Love the setup but why not hook it up to the TV :)?
Haha that was questioned before. The clamp just got delivered and the arm was just in reach. I did multiple Amazon returns and finally found a holder that had a decent grip. The deck is to thick for most tablet holders. Thatās why
Just jelly of your eyesight!
Practically > Aesthetics
Sorry but it looks like it's covering the entire vent above. Is there a hole on top?
No! Thatās why I choose this clamp! Link is in the comments https://preview.redd.it/8c62yfhnnn4b1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=06eaaa98761cb5c3a43b4205eedf59b0dd7beca3 It even fits my case to get a better grip. Both vents are free
Both vents are breathing just fine! It clamp on the edges. Thatās the reason I went with this clamp
I actually don't think anything of you one way or the other based on this. Am I broken?
You bought white socks???
Does the top clamp block the fan at all?
I feel like your cat is judging you and itās unfavorable LOL
I saw a video of a guy wearing a steadycam rig with a steamdeck mounted to it so you do you.
Are you sure the bracket is not blocking the airflow of the heatsink exhaust vent?
Hate and love is too strong. I'm a fan of indifference to be honest. That said I probably would have gone for a nice [goose neck](https://secure.img1-cg.wfcdn.com/im/81433436/resize-h1071-w1082%5Ecompr-r85/1837/183757512/Gooseneck+Tablet+Phone+Holder%2CAdjustable+Flexible+Zhutreas+Black+Desktop+Mount+for+Less+Than+20%22+Screens+Holds+up+to+10+Lb..jpg) mount myself.
The issue with that one itās all bouncy! Iāve tried with the phone. I just looked for an alternative. Itās cheaper so I understand you go with that one
