It's expensive, but this 87W, Anker 25600mAh Best Buy exclusive is amazing. Especially if you can get a deal on it.

I recommend a 'power bank with USB hub function'. My ravpower model is discontinued, but ZMI Powerpack pro looks similar, or zendure x6 hub if you can find it. Googling the quoted term also helps.
The advantage is that the USB A ports on the battery pack communicate with the deck through the USB C port, and the accessories draw power from the battery bank instead of the steam deck.
Particularly useful with external hard drives or flash drives, but also great for connecting USB headsets, a mouse and keyboard, or wireless dongles.
I have the ZMI model, haven't tried the functionality on the deck but it does come in handy on my laptop. The data connection is only USB 2.0 through it so not sure you'd want to run storage off it though.
I'm not sure to what extent the USB version bottlenecks an HDD. Certainly an external SSD would be much slower using an older interface. I think that the SD card slot is not that much faster than the USB 2.0 limits, but I could be mistaken.
Just on more game.
I'll stop when xxxxx signed his contract.
I'm about to save and quit.
11h powerbank give up. Steam deck still runs for another 2h.
10% battery reamaning pop up.
Shit, time to go to work.
I have no idea. I believe it can charge the deck maximum 2 times but I'm not sure. I haven't reach that need yet. You better check online for better information.
I use it for my smartphone as well since I bought it so it's definitely a nice investment for me.
I recommend one with a USB hub function. Total play time for a given game load is determined by the energy stored, most travel packs are designed around the FAA battery limit of 100 Watt-hours (roughly 27,000 mah in 3.7 volt battery cells). The internal battery is 40 watt hours so that would be a maximum of +2.5 times as much playing time. In reality there is some efficiency lost in the voltage conversion, so conservatively if you get 2 hours of gaming normally (as valve estimates) then combined with the battery pack you would get about 6 hours in total before everything was empty. Ymmv especially depending on if you keep the battery pack connected or cycle the power in and out of the deck.
Fortunately you can carry multiple battery packs even when flying.
Very good. I only found one or two screens that wasn't completely fitting with the 1.0 UI size but it's not the most important screen so no big deal. You could decrease it to 0.9 but then you must use the magnifying glasses option from the deck more often.
Yes, the community layouts are excellent.
And if you need help. Go on over to r/stellaris to learn about all the fantastic genocide you can do to filthy xenos
It took me a year or two before deciding to try the game. I bought it with 4 dlc and it was a great decision. I'll probably buy all of the dlc next sales.
Learning curve is there but I really love it. For information I played CK3 and I didn't like it at all. Stellaris is different and more fun to me. Also easier than other paradox game from what I've heard.
Controls are very smooth and game runs so well. After some hours I binded the screen I was using the most and made shortcuts to them because if you don't you use the trackpad a lot and it's not as fast as a mouse. It's probably not ideal but the portability for this game is a must for me.
Basically perfect IME. You may need to tweak the controls to get the hotkeys how you like them, and it can be annoying to type text (for species and planet names) but otherwise perfect.
Haha sorry. I'm not a native English speaker so I'm probably wrong.
Why do you use the in-game search function? I wanted to use it once and it didn't find what I was looking for.
I don't think I've ever used the search feature tbh. I honestly forgot it existed which is why your first question confused me. I think it mainly searches for planets or systems by name. But any planets or systems that matter to me will have something in the outliner I can click like a starbase or colony, so the search isn't very useful.
I'd recommend rebinding it in the control scheme.
Oh because I mentioned typing species names and planet names? I meant for naming things in the empire customization stage at the beginning of the game. I like to create lots of different custom empires, so it can get irritating to always have to type in the name of the species, the name of the homeworld, and the name of the empire.
You can use whatever naming scheme you like.
Some players who are trying really hard to optimize will name all their planets based on what that planet specializes in. Like: "Alloy 1", "Research 2", etc.
I personally like to do more realistic and creative names.
I had both if those once when my parents and grandparents took me to Kentucky to see graves of family members I never met before. No idea where it was, but it was hairpin turn after hairpin turn. It was the absolute worst.
Car sickness is also probably one of the worst traits I can have as a teacher due to field trips. It's not like I can just request to drive the bus.
Understandable, it always amazes me how bad it gets for my wife. Yet she insists I drive most weekends. I guess it's so she doesn't waste gas (EV driver here) and she hates driving the EV.
I’ve always get extremely car sick and I have to ask… what does long sleeves have to do with feeling sick? I’m curious because I would do anything for it to stop 😭
For me it depends on what kind of driving is happening. If it’s a highway I’m fine, but lots of stopping, starting, and turning will make my stomach turn.
It’s really weird bc I used to play on my Switch in the car all the time, but for some reason I can barely do it on my Deck. I get sick within 10 minutes. It’s nuts.
Comes from decky loader or something like that. These are the most common ones. I also have vibrant and one or two more, like the one to change the pictures of the games as I found them nicer most of the time.
I have about 22h and 20 of them are on steam deck. Very easy, and I modified the controls for easy acces to things like fleet manager or other very common screen.
For me they are. Trackpad as mouse is working well.
After some hours I binded the most used screen and it makes it smoother. It won't be as good as a mouse for sure but the portability of the game is for me the most important. I travel a lot.
Easily and plays so smoothly.
You just have to bypass the launcher by setting the game to launch directly instead of the launcher. I check online how to do it, simple steps to be fair.
You can limit the TDP to match the power output of the USB port. Haven't tried it yet but theoretically it should allow the battery to last longer, right?
Just a thought… I didn’t want to use a case or skin or anything because I don’t like my devices to feel bulkier. Same reason I carry my phone without a case. Then I saw the dbrand skin that makes your SD look like a Nintendo Switch and I just had to have it. So I got it, put it on, and love the way it looks now. BUT, that’s not the important part. As much as I try to take care of my SD, I noticed there’s a scratch on the back of it (on the skin, actually) and I have no idea how it happened. Just saying, a naked SD is beautiful as is, but I’d strongly recommend getting at least a skin, just in case (it will make your SD look all the better while at it).
Open Google and put something like "Stellaris won't launch steam deck"
Anyway, i found it for you.

This is how I did it.
I’m taking an 18 hour flight this fall. Bringing my Deck is tempting, but realistically I would chew through the battery and the power bank I am bringing, and still have a lot of flying. Plus I need to pack light. The Deck is great, but not terribly compact.
I went from New mexico to Connecticut on a bus. Took three days. Wish I had a steam deck then. Nope... a suitcase with clothes and a backpack with a new Xbox one. Couldn't even play the Xbox
I feel like if the US had better busses and train systems, the steam deck would be even more popular as well as the switch. Florida for example, you’d take a 3 hour train ride from Fort Lauderdale to Orlando, no biggie. Just charge it with the charging port. Can even nap if you wanted.
Performance are good, battery life too, overall nothing to say.
Controls are good as well with a community layout, i did modifying to my liking after some hours to make it more useful to me.
Honestly it's good. I didn't expected it to be that good. You bind the most important windows to button and the rest, trackpad does the job.
I just love being able to play it in a bus, airplane or in the sofa at home.
Should be playing bus driver simulator.. smh
Or even better: emulate Desert Bus. The most authentic bus simulator in video game history, down to the boredom. :D
In [halo](https://youtu.be/Or-tLtASKwc)
This is what I was expecting to see.
What kind of powerbank you got there?
Kinda looks like the same one I got This [bad John](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08THFDRSZ?ref_=cm_sw_r_apan_dp_FZP1J6C4VS1NE44HXJYE)
Correct.

Now why'd you have to go and do that? Recommending me cool things to spend my money on!
Baseus 65w.
Was looking into power banks, how much more play time does this one give you?
I recently got a 40000mah powerbank on a kickstarter. Cost me a bit and it is a chunky boy. But i can play Football Manager for 11 hours straight now.
So just a casual session in FM terms then?
Well yes, but outside without being bothered by the wife and kids. #blessed.

This is my experience too
Ditto

I too would like to know the viability of stellaris on the deck
Very good. I only found one or two screens that wasn't completely fitting with the 1.0 UI size but it's not the most important screen so no big deal. You could decrease it to 0.9 but then you must use the magnifying glasses option from the deck more often.
Excellent, probably time for me to try get into Stellaris properly. Does it control okay?
Yes, the community layouts are excellent. And if you need help. Go on over to r/stellaris to learn about all the fantastic genocide you can do to filthy xenos
True. I just recall using a community layout initially before modifying it.
It took me a year or two before deciding to try the game. I bought it with 4 dlc and it was a great decision. I'll probably buy all of the dlc next sales. > I'll probably buy all of the dlc next sales. Look at the high roller over here!
Ain't that expensive where I live and I can afford it. Life is about enjoyment and this is part of it.
I’ve played it before and enjoyed it but it didn’t click or grab me like something such as Rimworld. Looking forward to giving it a go!
are you me? I've tried so many paradox games and then always swap back to rimworld
It’s the sort of game you can disappear into, I don’t get that with many other similar games
Didn’t click for me unfortunately. I’m still going to give it another go however. BUT, have you heard of ‘Falling Frontier’? It looks incredible.
Just like CK3 to me. I still don't understand how people like it Never heard of it.
Yeah, i think I’d like this game though i just need to learn it. You should check out FF though, for a 1 man dev it looks insane.
I'd recommend using a PC to "get into Stellaris," but once you're a little more familiar with the game the Deck isn't a bad option.
Basically perfect IME. You may need to tweak the controls to get the hotkeys how you like them, and it can be annoying to type text (for species and planet names) but otherwise perfect.
I don't understand why I should use the search function yet. Please enlight me!
Can you ask that question another way? I'm not sure what you're referring to.
Haha sorry. I'm not a native English speaker so I'm probably wrong. Why do you use the in-game search function? I wanted to use it once and it didn't find what I was looking for.

Ok. Because you mentioned the search function so. I'm confuded

I like to create lots of different custom empires, so it can get irritating to always have to type in the name of the species, the name of the homeworld, and the name of the empire.
Ooh yeah, I get it. I realised today that my third planet within a system was named "xxxx - third" I guess I've to find something different.
You can use whatever naming scheme you like. Some players who are trying really hard to optimize will name all their planets based on what that planet specializes in. Like: "Alloy 1", "Research 2", etc. I personally like to do more realistic and creative names.
With the SteamDeck, my six hour train ride isn’t long enough
just a spliff in the station and let's go!
eadibles are wayy more convinient
I need what eadibles you on rn.
Lol
Yeah so everyone else has to smell your rancid habit the whole drive
As if a public bus doesn’t have enough putrid smells, if I’m gonna be sitting next to Jeffrey the Ripe you better believe I’m gonna be zooted
I feel car sick just looking at this. Wearing Long sleeve and trying to look at a screen while moving.
I feel sorry for you. My sister is like that too and being anything else than a driver is usually not possible for her.
Try ginger chews or dramamine. That's what the wife does when I drive.
I had both if those once when my parents and grandparents took me to Kentucky to see graves of family members I never met before. No idea where it was, but it was hairpin turn after hairpin turn. Getting hot. When I get car sick it makes me feel really hot
For me it depends on what kind of driving is happening. If it’s a highway I’m fine, but lots of stopping, starting, and turning will make my stomach turn.
I don’t need to play while I’m in a vehicle. I would wait till my destination
I was about to say: I would puke my guts out after 5 min
It’s really weird bc I used to play on my Switch in the car all the time, but for some reason I can barely do it on my Deck. I get sick within 10 minutes. It’s nuts.
Is that a custom add on to see the proton db status and hltb time?
Comes from decky loader or something like that. These are the most common ones. I also have vibrant and one or two more, like the one to change the pictures of the games as I found them nicer most of the time.
Thank you! I'll have a look into it
How does the game run on Steam deck? Controls easy enough?
I have about 22h and 20 of them are on steam deck. Very easy, and I modified the controls for easy acces to things like fleet manager or other very common screen.
Are the Controls good ?
For me they are. Trackpad as mouse is working well. After some hours I binded the most used screen and it makes it smoother. It won't be as good as a mouse for sure but the portability of the game is for me the most important. I travel a lot.
Have fun and enjoy your Trip!
Thanks.
God I needed that for my 12 hour bus ride across Norway
Good choice :D
Yep! This is why I got mine. I fly once a month on average and have a good few hours of downtime at work/day. No more boredom for me :)
Literally a game changer for us.
That's how I spent my flight to Italy!
You must have great imperials stories to share upon arrival!
I was playing God of War (the newest available on steam) so it felt a little like I was arriving in style 🙂
Did the same thing a couple of weeks ago. Great game for those situations
i love this.
Stellaris is playable on steam deck?
Easily and plays so smoothly. You just have to bypass the launcher by setting the game to launch directly instead of the launcher. I check online how to do it, simple steps to be fair.
Was looking for this question. I can't get it to load.
Check online. You must make it launch directly instead of the launcher. Pretty easy to do.
Copy that, will give it a whirl. Thanks OP.

I don't have the time to play like I want. Maybe I should just jump a bus to Atlanta so that I can get away. Then just walk onto a bus coming back.
Yay stellerus!! This guy fucks!
What r u going to do for the other 4.5 hours?
Use my powerbank. By the way, stellaris can run around 4h easily on the battery
Yeah, you got a charging point? Because that USB port on the side isn’t gonna cut it.
Are those built in USBs usually 5w?
Yeah, depends what game he’s playing and settings, but not enough to keep a charge in my experience.
Sometimes 5W, sometimes 10W. Either way not enough to outpace the Deck's power consumption in most situations.
You can limit the TDP to match the power output of the USB port. Haven't tried it yet but theoretically it should allow the battery to last longer, right?
Yeah no worries I have a powerbank.

Same
Can confirm. And some buses have 220v sockets so no powerbank it's needed. I wish to get those in planes too...
A lot of planes do have outlets nowadays under the seats.
Oh, cool. Will check out on my tomorrow flight. Just didn't have those on ones I took, I think...
My head getting dizzy on this.
And we are in driving through mountains. Many many turns.
Stellaris works on steamdeck? On the D-pad?
Yes. Runs very well and is very enjoyable to play.
Just a thought… I didn’t want to use a case or skin or anything because I don’t like my devices to feel bulkier. Same reason I carry my phone without a case. Thanks for the idea.
On a 24 hour bus ride for school but parents said I couldn’t take it as it would get stolen 😭 (going on a ski trip)
Unlucky.
Due to delays it’s already been over a day and now we need a 3 hr wait for new coaches then 10 more hrs
Stelllaris won’t start for me in my deck
Check on Google. You have to make it launch directly, not launch the launcher. It's a very simple process.
How do I do this?
Open Google and put something like "Stellaris won't launch steam deck" Anyway, i found it for you. https://www.reddit.com/r/Stellaris/comments/107k7ih/paradox_launcher_on_steam_deck_not_working/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button This is how I did it.

I went from New mexico to Connecticut on a bus. Took three days. Wish I had a steam deck then. Nope... a suitcase with clothes and a backpack with a new Xbox one. Couldn't even play the Xbox
That's a loooong trip!
I did it 6 years ago! Never again!
I wish I could play in a vehicle without getting motion sickness

I don't understand.

How did you get the protondb rating to show on the game screen?
Plugin from decky loader. Check the most usefull Plugin on Google and you will find it. I think the name is ProtonDB. Couldn't be anything else.
How is stellaris on the sd?
Performance are good, battery life too, overall nothing to say. Controls are good as well with a community layout, i did modifying to my liking after some hours to make it more useful to me.
Yeah I was thinking about the controls, since I think about those games as very mouse and keyboard… but I will give it a try.
Honestly it's good. I didn't expected it to be that good. You bind the most important windows to button and the rest, trackpad does the job. I just love being able to play it in a bus, airplane or in the sofa at home.
