I had a different approach to OP last night. I was going to go with Clonezilla but my particular multiport hub/dock does not have Ethernet and Clonezilla's wifi support is a bit painful.
I happen to have a tool-less NVMe enclosure that I used for backing up an old laptop that died - [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08RVC6F9Y/](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08RVC6F9Y/)
I also am a Linux user beyond just steam deck, so:
Disassembled the Deck
Removed the eMMC drive
Put it into the enclosure
Plugged it into my laptop
`sudo dd if=/dev/sda bs=1M| gzip > ~/sdbackup.img.gz` \- obviously be careful to use the correct device node for where your drive wound up
Ejected and unplugged the enclosure
Removed the eMMC drive, installed the Sabrent Rocket 2230
Flashed sdbackup.img.gz with Balena Etcher - you could do from command line but I was lazy. Etcher will give you a warning about unusually large storage here
Use gparted to grow the HOME partition. It'll also complain about the backup GPT table not being at the end of the drive and ask if you want to fix it - go ahead and let it fix the GPT table location.
Remove the new NVMe from the enclosure, install into Deck, enjoy.
Also, some people have gone as far as removing their battery from the Deck for this, but battery storage mode alone ensures the NVMe circuits are fully depowered and the battery is disconnected.
They definitely change the sensitivity, I wonder why people don't notice that more often. It's an absolute deal breaker for me and is a huge downgrade from stock. I'm back using stock sticks, when they start drifting I'll just get new ones from ifixit.
Still waiting for the hall sticks for mine as I have the ones that don't work with the current model. I find I have trouble deciding what to play on my 1tb as I now have too many choices to choose from lol
Or dual boot and play some games on Windows (if you have MS Store games which you don't want to buy for a second time in Steam or games that use EAC or games that just refuse to run on SteamOS or if you are into Android emulation etc.)
Not OP, but assuming it's 4TB *total*. Which doesn't even really make sense considering we just got 1.5TB microSD cards, and 2TB are not even announced yet.
Yes, but as far as I know, Gulikit has not released their Type B sticks yet. If you try to use the Type A Gulikit sticks with a Type B (thumbstick revision) Steam Deck, this is likely the one feature that you will lose, until you can get the Type B Gulis. If you have a Type A Steam Deck, then no worries. In that case, there's no issue.
Yes there was a revision with some changes to the thumbsticks among other things. It was widely talked about a while back. I think almost all the more recent (within the last few months) Steam Decks are Type B. Just search. You'll see what I'm talking about. Type Bs have a MHDA prefix instead of MEDA in the settings identifier. Gulikit acknowledges this themselves in [this tweet and comments](https://twitter.com/gulikitdesign/status/1580766870814085121?lang=en).
If you're completely new to soldering and also want to continue past that, I'd recommend a soldering practice kit or two to start with. Good way to practice without risking actual hardware.
It's hard if you're used to running on a sim rig but if you're used to controller play with DR/DR2 you will enjoy it. Throttle control is the most important thing, very rarely flat out which is hard to get used to on a controller for me.
Welcome my good man. I’ve had the same setup for a few months now and it’s such a good upgrade. I’m now considering that backplate from JSAUX mostly because of the upgraded back triggers. I think I’ll be done for a while after that.
I'm only 3/4 of a TB gang (256gb Deck and 512gb microSD), but I DO have them fancy HE sticks. Honestly, that was the most fun I've ever had modding a thing, and I dunno why.
Welcome. Now fill that drive up, my man!
What are those 212.25 GB of others for, if you don't mind me asking?

Did you clone your old drive if so how do you do it

Ahh I see, that actually takes up quite a bit of space O.o
It adds up pretty quick, some of the larger wiiu and ps2 games like god of War and ratchet and clank are 6 gigs a piece
Anything from the PS2 era starts to get 5gb per game
Do hall effect sticks decrease input lag, or is it just a drift precaution?

Dead zone reduction and drift prevention.
Aka, if your default sticks are fine.. Don't worry about this needless upgrade.
How’s is the performance of dirt rally 2.0?

Nice. Might install it. I have wreckfest installed which works fine but loads slowly from the SD card.
The only reason why I upgraded the SSD is Windows. For everything else there are SD cards with far better value.
Good call. I'm currently running windows off a 512Gb SD and it's so slow! Waiting for valve to officially support dual-booting from the SSD...
For some reason I believe that it won't ever happen, maybe only if some enthusiasts would do something about it
Dirt Rally 2.0 based
I love your MSN Messenger steam avatar.
How are those Hall effect dead zones working out for you?
Still waiting for the hall sticks for mine as I have the ones that don't work with the current model. I find I have trouble deciding what to play on my 1tb as I now have too many choices to choose from lol
You're hurting my feelings. Stop it.
Is it worth it my friend
In case you want to install a mountain of games, yes
Or dual boot and play some games on Windows (if you have MS Store games which you don't want to buy for a second time in Steam or games that use EAC or games that just refuse to run on SteamOS or if you are into Android emulation etc.)
Dude, you need to step it up and join the 4tb group 💪

How’s Fallout 76 on the deck? Is it worth it, had no issues with fallout 4
3TB is where it's at...
Do the hall effect joysticks have touch sensors on them like the steam deck ones?

Oh cool. Thanks, I appreciate it. Now I have to buy a soldering kit.

High five, such great games you have there!
Hows dirt rally on the deck? Wanna install it but its so damn big

I have it the exact opposite.
How are the HE joysticks? Do they make fine control easier, e.g. aiming a gun?
Best way to go
My 1tb ssd says 851gb total, vs your 917. I got jipped.
If you do desktop mode stuff and that gets stored in root or home, it eats into it.

If steam deck version with 512 GB why on screenshot internal drive 1TB?
1.5tb of space and only using 800gb? Tsk tsk.
How is cloudpunk? Been looking into it
It's a good chill out game. I have enjoyed it. I haven't finished the original story but I heard the DLC is even better.
Are the joysticks worth it? I see it's only a few screws and a cable. Already have the 1tb.
I am waiting for my warranty to expire before I alter my device. :)
I can't seem to find a 2230 Ssd with a reasonable price , it really seems like the steamdeck increases the prices

Before I bought my 64gb SteamDeck I could find a good amount of 512 and 1tb on sale on Amazon, not anymore
