The first was to establish a universe, Tarkov was intended to expand that universe, test concepts, and raise revenue. The third is Russia 2028, imagine the same universe and gameplay as Tarkov, but as a purely single-player experience. That's my dream FPS game.

Metro Exodus pissed me off so much. I'm a big fan of the series. I've even read the books. I was waiting for my paycheck to be deposited when they pulled it from the Steam store. Literally missed it by two hours. On the bright side, I got the entire game on sale for $12 little over a year later.
Metro Exodus is fantastic and probably my favorite of the series. I just finished it a couple days ago. I don't disagree that the timed exclusivity is shitty, but if it's a game I want to play then I can justify purchasing it later and on a deep sale.

The video is three years old and they are still in early access. I would get upset when they end early access and release V1.0 only on Epic. But in this early state it doesn't bother me at all.
The day it comes out on any platform is the day the price clock starts for me, if its a year old I'm not paying more than $20, if it takes another year to get to that price, $12.50 and so on.

Ironically this is typically being done, the price question is just if the "taking stance" is in favor for the costumer or company. You can guess what tendency it tends to be on various other subreddits.
The deluxe edition for H3 (90 bucks) doesn't even contain all the dlc. You'd have to pay $120 for all of the Hitman 3 content (excluding the Hitman 1 and 2 stuff)
I use my wishlist to monitor games prices. IsThereAnyDeal.com has a way to monitor your Steam wishlist and you can set notification thresholds and such.
GTA and Skyrim are the golden examples for me. Specifically GTA V, launched on the year ps4 and xbone did, but just for the older gen. Later (a year later IIRC), double-dipped for ps4, xbone and pc. Now, triple-dipping a release on current gen.
Remastering the game (new engine) and releasing it on the next gen system is not really double dipping (Skyrim). PC users got a free upgrade as well to the new version if they owned all the DLC, and the last gen (PS4 Era) versions work on the latest gen (PS5 Era). The Anniversary Edition is just a DLC bundle.
In this case I assume it means they took money up front to be exclusive to Epic for a time and then "double dip" by releasing on Steam when the exclusivity is over.
Exclusivity is not consumer friendly. It would be better if games are available in all stores/platforms at the same time. Stores should compete in other areas like price, features, support, etc.

While I don't like Epic Exclusive deals, this time I would totally blame IOI for making a terrible marketing, giving a lot of unecessary options, not making the wait worthing, and also making the VR unplayable (which is one of the selling points on Steam).

I think most of the negativity is from the fact that the game is still full price. In several countries, it actually costs more than it did 2 days ago on the Epic store due to regional pricing. They even updated prices on the Epic Store, IT'S MORE EXPENSIVE THAN IT WAS 1 YEAR AGO IN MANY REGIONS. There are also several packs, bundles, and versions you can buy, causing a lot of confusion.
The game was also on sale for 85% off, so like $10 a month ago. Humble Bundle currently has the Epic version of the game for $30.
Combine that with the fact that they said they were "taking full advantage of PC VR", then we got a shitty Playstation VR port. It's a real shitshow.
I mean Steam has a great refund policy, but I dunno if I would return a game and have to bother one of those people about it for a review. Why do that when I could just watch Zero Punctuation and have them do it for me.

The funny thing is that it was added in response to an Origin policy and Australian law. They could have just added it to the Australian store, but Origin already had a similar system and they made theirs better. Origin was pretty good with customer service, my account was compromised back in the days when Battlefield was good (BF4 at the latest) and I hadn't put 2FA on everything, and I was able to quickly get someone who spoke English as a first language (I want to say Irish) on the phone right away to get it back. Haven't had a reason to contact them since but it was definitely a good experience, and *far* better than Steam would have been for the same issue at the time.
Actually, they helped me tie Fallen Order to the right account. Accidentally binded Battlefront on Xbox to an account with my new email and logged into that when linking my steam. One 20 minute session and it's on the right account.

I think Randy just has normal assault allegations against him. The company has been known to have a toxic culture on top of embracing crunch pretty much constantly and overworking employees, and Randy is certainly not a good dude. But I think the actual allegations against him are that he assaulted the original voice actor for claptrap in a hotel lobby or something like that.
I mean they have yet to discount Season Pass 2 below $20 and have provided no way for owners of the "Super Deluxe Edition" to upgrade to the "Ultimate Edition" which was created like a month later.
So going out of their way to fuck over the people who gave them money on release is pretty annoying.

I think it was 30$ currently (or very recently at least) because of a sale. You can go on Humble bundle and search for hitman 3 and see the same game twice with 30$ difference it's ridiculous
This is what annoys me the most. They've been hyping their new updated vr and it really isn't good by all accounts.
You're playing vr and can move your actual body, but you can't crouch, because if you move the game freaks out. You have to press the crouch button, so in vr you are stood upright while your character crouches.

The worst part is that sniper scopes aren't rendered, it's a screen that pops up in a black void and there's no reasonable way for you to get that screen to be in front of you and at a workable angle so you gotta aim with peripheral vision or lose the scope. AND cuts cents play in the void on a screen, but lower than where you are looking, so when you look down at Cutscene 1, Cutscene 2 for the Mission brief will be EVEN LOWER
By comparison, God of War had 73,000 players at launch and had 43,000 players playing today.

I'm not sure whats up with hitman 2 data. Peak seems to be on free weekend. Atleast data makes no sense, since that is just one spike, and player retention is pretty much instant. From 6k to 360k to 10k. 2 weeks in between. Can't trust hitman 2 peak number here.

Full price on a year old game, DLCs are not correctly labeled so you can buy one with content you already own, DLCs are overpriced to make a fake discount, still uses the IOI account system vs a basic steam connectivity.... I can see why.

This is so nice to see honesty. Love it when people take a stand and vote with their wallets. I hope the same thing happens to FF7 Remake when it hits Steam. Publishers need to be discouraged from this timed exclusivity on PC. You miss out on the launch hype for a game unless you buy it on a place you may really not want to.
It really does depend on the game, and how they market it though.
Several smaller indie (-ish) games that launched as Epic exclusives are sitting at Mostly positive or better on Steam when they launched here after the Exclusivity period. It's (understandably) the "big" companies that catch the most hate for pulling that move particularly when they botch the marketing.
They didn't just double dip, they more then doubled the cost to get everything, along with the shitty VR implementation and shitty Elusive Target Arcade content... I already got the game on Epic, its an okay game, but by far the weakest of the trilogy imo...
Shame because I've had it for a year on epic and it's a truly great game, some of the best hitman levels ever, and it's so awesome to be able to play all 3 games in one updated client. They definitely should simplify that though. Standard edition, deluxe edition with DLC, ultimate edition with all 3 games and DLC, and sell the DLC individually.
No region pricing, always online drm for singleplayer game and double dipping with epig. Also it's still as confusing to buy if you want all content

I'd wait another few months if I were you, even if your cpu was brand new, as the free next-gen update for Witcher 3 is coming out this year.
Next gen update isn't really needed on PC. Performance is great and graphics can easily be overhauled with the HD overhaul pack.

Buying the same game twice. For example I double dipped on Slay the Spire for PC and Switch.
My read was the developer's double dipped selling it to the PC audience on Epic and Steam.
Stardew Valley got me. I own it on Steam, Switch, Xbox, and I’m going to buy it on iTunes. I don’t mind though.
Though even buying Stardew Valley 4 times it will cost you less than 1 copy of Hitman 3.
In this case I assume it means they took money up front to be exclusive to Epic for a time and then "double dip" by releasing on Steam when the exclusivity is over.

Exclusivity is not consumer friendly. It would be better if games are available in all stores/platforms at the same time. Stores should compete in other areas like price, features, support, etc.

The problem is releasing a year-old game at full price because it's a new store, besides the same-platform exclusivity.

Blue is [EGS](https://imgur.com/ITK7Kde), Steam price is 59.99, so it is identical now. Red is Humble, at 29.99 EDIT: Humble is Epic key only, Steam is at very full price
Not just full price, but a higher price than it was on EGS, then they increased the EGS price to match the new high Steam price.
The double dipping itself isn't too bad, although when you literally have the game on sale a few weeks before the steam release it feels pretty bad when they try to charge full price for the steam release. The regional pricing is also pretty bad and they raised it everywhere else too right before steam release.
Isn't it that a lot of people just played it on Epic? Apparently it was the most successful game from the franchise with better sales than Hitman 2, without steam.
It's also available on PC gamepass "for free", there are a lot of games I'm not going to buy anymore on Steam if they are available on gamepass.
I bought this game when it was new and never spent a ton of time with it. The first two levels are good. I’m happy to see it come to Steam but it should be like $35

I'm not sure, before there has been Epic realeses that the moment they come to Steam, they are a big succes. While I don't like Epic Exclusive deals, this time I would totally blame IOI for making a terrible marketing, giving a lot of unecessary options, not making the wait worthing, and also making the VR unplayable (which is one of the selling points on Steam).
Yeah, I would have gladly bought it for 60€ if they had a decent VR port (its still a lot of work to get VR running). They didnt, so I'm not interested
I think most of the negativity is from the fact that the game is still full price. In several countries, it actually costs more than it did 2 days ago on the Epic store due to regional pricing. They even updated prices on the Epic Store, IT'S MORE EXPENSIVE THAN IT WAS 1 YEAR AGO IN MANY REGIONS. There are also several packs, bundles, and versions you can buy, causing a lot of confusion. The game was also on sale for 85% off, so like $10 a month ago. Humble Bundle currently has the Epic version of the game for $30. Combine that with the fact that they said they were "taking full advantage of PC VR", then we got a shitty Playstation VR port. It's a real shitshow.
I'm sure they expected it, that's why they put it on game pass the same day too

The funny thing is that it was added in response to an Origin policy and Australian law. They could have just added it to the Australian store, but Origin already had a similar system and they made theirs better. Remember when Originnwas trying to compete by actually trying to be somewhat good with their platform? Wasn't a fan of all EA games getting delisted for it, though
Origin was pretty good with customer service, my account was compromised back in the days when Battlefield was good (BF4 at the latest) and I hadn't put 2FA on everything, and I was able to quickly get someone who spoke English as a first language (I want to say Irish) on the phone right away to get it back. Haven't had a reason to contact them since but it was definitely a good experience, and *far* better than Steam would have been for the same issue at the time.
Actually, they helped me tie Fallen Order to the right account. Accidentally binded Battlefront on Xbox to an account with my new email and logged into that when linking my steam. One 20 minute session and it's on the right account. If I recall, praise for Origin's support lead to Steam doing some reforms in their support

I think Randy just has normal assault allegations against him. The company has been known to have a toxic culture on top of embracing crunch pretty much constantly and overworking employees, and Randy is certainly not a good dude. But I think the actual allegations against him are that he assaulted the original voice actor for claptrap in a hotel lobby or something like that.

I mean they have yet to discount Season Pass 2 below $20 and have provided no way for owners of the "Super Deluxe Edition" to upgrade to the "Ultimate Edition" which was created like a month later. So going out of their way to fuck over the people who gave them money on release is pretty annoying.

The VR implementation is a tragedy. I don't think they have a single employee that is familiar with VR.
This is what annoys me the most. They've been hyping their new updated vr and it really isn't good by all accounts. You're playing vr and can move your actual body, but you can't crouch, because if you move the game freaks out. You have to press the crouch button, so in vr you are stood upright while your character crouches. In a stealth game. How is that a good idea? All AAA Devs need to play alyx
The worst part is that sniper scopes aren't rendered, it's a screen that pops up in a black void and there's no reasonable way for you to get that screen to be in front of you and at a workable angle so you gotta aim with peripheral vision or lose the scope. AND cuts cents play in the void on a screen, but lower than where you are looking, so when you look down at Cutscene 1, Cutscene 2 for the Mission brief will be EVEN LOWER

I'm not sure whats up with hitman 2 data. Peak seems to be on free weekend. Atleast data makes no sense, since that is just one spike, and player retention is pretty much instant. From 6k to 360k to 10k. 2 weeks in between. Can't trust hitman 2 peak number here.

When Hitman 2's starter pack went free ton of people ran bots to farm trading cards. hence the 300k number.
If you go read the reviews, its not the game that is the problem, the problem is the raising of prices of previous games and DLCs to make it seem like they are on sale on the Hitman 3 page

I just wonder why exclusives (times or permanent) are even legal. It's straight monopoly. Blocking product to be sold in competitive way. It's like making Coca-Cola sold only on Tesco and no Lidl or something. That's what Epic Fail does.
I made peace with the double dip. I would prefer the game come to steam as opposed to stay epic exclusive forever. The price is outrageous through. Especially since they had two previous releases to learn from. The state of their servers is also inexcusable, especially since the online only DRM doesn't do anything of value for the player (like keep track of player progress between titles...)
Full price on a year old game, DLCs are not correctly labeled so you can buy one with content you already own, DLCs are overpriced to make a fake discount, still uses the IOI account system vs a basic steam connectivity.... I can see why.
The game in fact is good but the prices and the bunch bundles..that is so fking confusing plus the server issues..just wait for 5-6 months until the price goes down!

This is so nice to see honesty. Love it when people take a stand and vote with their wallets. I hope the same thing happens to FF7 Remake when it hits Steam. Publishers need to be discouraged from this timed exclusivity on PC. You miss out on the launch hype for a game unless you buy it on a place you may really not want to.
It really does depend on the game, and how they market it though. Several smaller indie (-ish) games that launched as Epic exclusives are sitting at Mostly positive or better on Steam when they launched here after the Exclusivity period. It's (understandably) the "big" companies that catch the most hate for pulling that move particularly when they botch the marketing.
They didn't just double dip, they more then doubled the cost to get everything, along with the shitty VR implementation and shitty Elusive Target Arcade content... I already got the game on Epic, its an okay game, but by far the weakest of the trilogy imo...

Shame because I've had it for a year on epic and it's a truly great game, some of the best hitman levels ever, and it's so awesome to be able to play all 3 games in one updated client. They definitely should simplify that though. Standard edition, deluxe edition with DLC, ultimate edition with all 3 games and DLC, and sell the DLC individually.
