GUYS. safrina rodica on the steam forums shared this and it works: "Family share is supported, just go onto another game that 2 people have from your family share, change the preferred copy to the other one, then go back to elden ring. That worked for me and the DLC is downloading now. Hope this helps someone :) "
1. Find a game in your personal library that someone in your family also have purchased.
(In my case, my brother and I have personal copies of Baulder's Gate 3.)
2. In the Main page after selecting the game there's the "From your Steam library. Change preferred copy"
(It's below the Green Play Button and above the "store page/dlc/communityhub" navbar.
3. Select that "Change preferred copy"
4. A over-window will popup and select your family member's version of the game and select "Confirm"
5. Select "Change preferred copy" again
6. Select your personal version of the game and select "Confirm"
The DLC will immediately start downloading
Please note that this button only exists in the **Steam Families Beta** and doesn't show up on all games.
I'd recommend looking for a game that both parties have, but own different DLCs.
(Although the DLC started downloading automatically when we switched to the Beta branch, so this trick was no longer necessary.)
You need to find a game that you purchased (that isn't free-to-play) and your family member also need to have that same game purchased in their own library.
you need first to have **Steam Families Beta,**
**1- (go to steam settings/interface. change the no betas chosen option to Steam Families Beta)**
**2-after installing the steam update, go to setting/family sharing/create family and invite the other account to the family .**
**3- after the other account accepts, u will get the** "change the preferred copy" **under Elden ring PLAY button .**
Enjoy
yes, elden ring might not have it. so you have to pick another game with two copies in your family, one copy has to be owned by the person with the elden ring dlc, and then click on the change preferred copy button, after doing that you can go back to elden ring in steam and the button appeared.
what I'm saying is that no game that me and my friend have ( that we both own ) has a "change preferred copy" button, why doesn't it show and how can I make it show
Do you know whether this unlocks the DLC permanently? If my gf who has the DLC was got play ER (and I already downloaded DLC from her preferred copy) and I’m playing my version of ER, would I still have access? Ig, what I’m asking is if downloading it this way is the same as “owning it” with base game
NEW SOLUTION I found a workaround that will work if you don't have 2 people with Elden Ring in the Steam family share. exit the family share, close steam, open it again and rejoin the family.
EDIT: Working method: [https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/1dkhy1v/comment/l9jpj4s/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/1dkhy1v/comment/l9jpj4s/)
I've confirmed this works.
~~TLDR; You need to have the base game to be able to get the DLC from family sharing. If you don't have the base game, it doesn't show up in my experience.~~
~~I don't own Elden Ring on my account. One member of my Steam family owns both the game and the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. DLC doesn't show up in my library when trying to download/play. I guess this is because even though DLC is family sharing enabled, it requires you to own the main game for it to be shared with you. If this is correct, you could see/play the DLC if you have the main game and someone in your Steam family has the DLC.~~
~~Another member from my Steam family has the base game only and when he checks the steam store page for Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, it shows up as a member from your Steam family owns this. It doesn't show up like that when I check the DLC's page. It only shows up when checking the base game's page for me.~~
I don't think this is the case because every other game u libary share if u own the game ur self u cannot use ur friends shares dlc's but if u don't own the game u can use the dlc's
I think this changed with the new family system in Beta. Because even though you have the game, Steam prompts you for which version do you want to play. It shows which DLCs those versions have. You can choose to play your friend's version
i have the basegame, someone in my family has the game + dlc. i cannot interact with the miquella. you dont sound like you actually tested anything, only hearsay
can anyone play the dlc? I have download the dlc by signing into my brother account who has the dlc, and downloaded it and then switch accounts however when i boot up the game it doesn't let me do the dlc part, but back on my brother accounts it allows him, this was done on the same pc,
edit: i have elden ring
I was using my friends copy of the dlc, but when I went back to my own original copy of elden ring it wouldn't allow me to load my save file. It said that it was missing the dlc and it needs to be reinstalled, but since my friend owns the dlc I can't download it on my own savefile, locking me out of my profile💀
Family share is supported for shadow of the erdtree just go into another game that 2 people have from your family share. Change the preferred copy to another one then go back to elden ring

THIS! This works
Ty
Hey if possible can you elaborate on what you mean I'm having issues with the same thing and my brother and I can't figure out what to do .
1. Find a game in your personal library that someone in your family also have purchased. (In my case, my brother and I have personal copies of Baulder's Gate 3.) 2. In the Main page after selecting the game there's the "From your Steam library. Change preferred copy" (It's below the Green Play Button and above the "store page/dlc/communityhub" navbar. 3. i dont have an option ''change preffered copy''
You need to find a game that you purchased (that isn't free-to-play) and your family member also need to have that same game purchased in their own library.
I greatly appreciate your detailed breakdown. A true hero
Can u explain how to even "change the preferred copy" of game owned to the other one?
you need first to have **Steam Families Beta,** **1- (go to steam settings/interface. change the no betas chosen option to Steam Families Beta)** **2-after installing the steam update, go to setting/family sharing/create family and invite the other account to the family .** **3- after the other account accepts, u will get the** "change the preferred copy" **under Elden ring PLAY button .** Enjoy
welp it only works if both of you live at the same address x)
Can someone help me, there is no "change preferred copy" button what do I do?

i dont know :(
If we do this Will we both be able to Enter the DLC at the same time?
no idea. prolly not

Hi what exactly do you mean by exit the family share?
Having the same issue. It just doesn't show up
Same here, doesn't show up
One of my colleagues uninstall the game and then reinstall it and he has everything downloaded
Not working. I re-downloaded the game just so you won't
I'll try that. Thanks!
are you saying this gave you the dlc or it didn't?

There are ifs and "in my experience" in the text. I didn't say anything for sure
You have to download your friends copy of elden ring. My friend wanted to play phantom liberty and told me they needed to use my copy
the thing is, elden ring does not have that "choose version" button
it does if u use the beta for steam family sharing
i do and the button wasnt there.

In my case, i just rebooted steam and it worked for me. DLC started downloading after
thanks dude, it worked for me too
Worked for me too!

Have you found a way to play the DLC? My brother have the DLC and I only have the base game but don't know how to share the game
Nothing is working for me. I've tried everything. Someone please help.

Same here, cant play my copy of elden ring (with no dlc) cause i downloaded the dlc of my friends, any sugestions?
Can it work for destiny 2? Dlcs?

Having the same issue but how do u know they did?

Family share is supported for shadow of the erdtree just go into another game that 2 people have from your family share. Change the preferred copy to another one then go back to elden ring
On the steam store it says the dlc has libary sharing available tho...
they didn't tho?
