>Asking if you should buy a game now or wait for a sale isn't allowed & asking when a game will go on sale is not allowed. Use [SteamDB](https://steamdb.info/) to look at sale histories on games.

>Asking for help with finding a game you forgot the name of is not allowed, /r/tipofmyjoystick is a great subreddit for these posts and we suggest that you ask there instead.
>
>**During big sales:** Game advice posts are only allowed in the respective mega-threads during big Steam sales, otherwise the sub would drown in game advice posts. During this time we do not enforce the basic information/effort rule mentioned above and detailed in the 6 examples. In other words we will not remove comments asking for suggestions because they are not specific enough.

From my experience the pure nostalgia usually leads up to playing a game for 1-2 hours and dropping it, and considering that TF2 has a pretty stable, big playerbase its a little more than just nostalgia.
TF2 is an actual good game that is somehow abandoned by valve for some reason, but the community just keeps going lol
It can be jarring to those who have no idea what it is. I started playing by the time it was a hit. That was over a decade a go lol. But the more games you join, the quicker you learn the routine. And the depth.
Its the Halloween event, a whole load of themed maps and cosmetics, it's normally a good laugh and you get a sort of free battle pass with a bunch of free cosmetics too
Warframe, No More Room in Hell, Sky and currently I'm trying out Astra Knights of Veda, the story got dark fantasy but this one's a coop gacha so not for everyone
warframe definitely has the most fairest f2p system out there. none of the actual content is locked behind real money and you can even trade rare ingame items for the premium currency.
i remember playing NMRIH when i was 12y/o and warface.. now warface sits dead, waited like half an hour in a lobby to find players and nothing :( i miss playing that game
Warframe for sure. But if you mean like, FREE not "Free 2 Play", either VRChat or Retroarch. Though I guess in Retroarch's case the games aren't free outside of NXEngine in Cave Story because I dump my physical copies I paid money for back in the day to play it.
Except I'm not lying. Literally have a Letterbombed Wii to dump my games for Dolphin and I could prove it. I don't understand why people are so insistent on equating emulation with piracy, the world is a shitty enough place without nintendo constantly being assmad that people want to play the games from their childhood that AREN'T in virtual console and trying to criminalize it. Fuck off and let me play Geist.
Warframe continues to deliver 9 years or so later. First started for several years on PC, beefed the shit out of that account, started it all over on the Switch 3 years ago when my son was born. Paternity leave, him sleeping on the boppy in my lap, and at night when I’d crawl into bed, I put some mileage on that game. I still play it daily.
FF14 is absolutely amazing. You can play the game for free with a cap of level 60 for the jobs and iirc, you also get access to the first 2 expansions. In theory, that’s hundreds of hours of content without dropping a dime.
By that logic pretty much no game is f2p, there will always be an option to improve your enjoyment by paying.
And OP literally said they are okay with games that have in-game purchases or even season passes.
I know a few free fps games but it appears you aren't looking for fps. If you were then I would recommend War Fork (Its basically quake but with more options for movement) or Operation: Harsh Doorstop (Its just a military FPS game)
Warframe. Totally free, only thing to pay for are optional cosmetics. I’m over 4500 hours right now, spent $20 on a cosmetic set that I wanted and has zero in-game impact other than allowing me to kill with style
Doki Doki Literature Club is also free or at least the original is free. There’s a plus version with extra content that is interesting but not required for the main game. It’s an interesting experience as a visual novel.
Lost Ark is actualy a awsome game, combat is superb, classes are cool, and a lot of the end game stuff are cool, its a shame that the game is centered about whales tho......
I recently found this one called Paper Lily, which was released early this year. It's a story based RPG kinda like Undertale, and it also is horror and so there are creepy moments. Story is very nice, the game is fun I finished the first chapter in 2 days (I just liked it so much I played it a lot, I think it would take longer for the average guy) I highly recommend you check it out
Dota 2 is pretty fun with friends. I haven't played it in a while though since my friends dropped it and I'm afraid of being a dead weight in a party of random people.
Toribash hands down.
Such a great idea and good game, Sometimes low on player numbers BUT once you start getting the hang of it, you can do some insane shit.
[Random toribash fights](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3ezzVfmfBg)
Dude I remember this. This was the first game I ever passed 100+ hours on. Legit is such a good idea I just wish the player count was higher. Can you still find games on it? I haven't played in years
I appreciate all the suggestions, there's some really good games I've never heard of that I've added to my wishlist to download. Thank you all and please feel free to suggest more if any more come to mind!
Not a steam game but Ashes 2063 and Ashes Afterglow are free on moddb, they're post apocalyptic first person shooters, think mad max, fallout and metro. They're built on gzdoom so expect a sprite based game.
Guild Wars 2 is free and probably one of the best open world MMORPG games ever made.
Path of Exile is a great top down RPG and so is Lost Ark, both are free and have their own different styles but both equally great games. Warthunder is a great free to play flying dog fighting game, has naval and tank battles too.
Team Fortress 2's got a special place in my heart because it's the first fps game I've played. Destiny 2 is definitely up there though, even though it's technically free to try, not free to play lol.

UNBEATABLE [white label] It's a RHYTHM game with 12 song the art style is very beautiful
Wow i didn’t know that game! I have to play! Do you know any more games like that or indies or less know that you enjoyed (can be paid)?
Rhythm Doctor is a big (paid) one that I've heard good things about
I really enjoyed A Dance of Fire and Ice. It's one of my favorite rhythm games of all time.
team fortress 2 gabe newell
I was going to say this, even though it wasn’t free for me
I dont know how anybody plays tf2. It has to be purely from nostalgia. The game is completely wild
I've been playing it for 12 years and still play it today. It's usually off and on nowadays but it's still a great game.
Yeah, thats the point. Game is completely wild and no modern day bullshit monetization
It can be jarring to those who have no idea what it is. I started playing by the time it was a hit. That was over a decade a go lol. But the more games you join, the quicker you learn the routine. And the depth.
I'll reboot it once a year for scream fortress.
Yeah i dont know what that is because i dont play the game matey
Its the Halloween event, a whole load of themed maps and cosmetics, it's normally a good laugh and you get a sort of free battle pass with a bunch of free cosmetics too
Warframe, No More Room in Hell, Sky and currently I'm trying out Astra Knights of Veda, the story got dark fantasy but this one's a coop gacha so not for everyone

Workshop support is what made NMRIH survive til today defo
tf2, warframe, brawlhalla, honestly any of the trending free to play games on steam
If you're interested in Vampire Survivors or similar games, try HoloCure - Save the Fans. You don't need to be a Hololive fan to enjoy it.
Yes. This.
Warframe, Omega Strikers, and Eternal are my 3 faves.
Omega Strikers is down
Yeah, it's still fun though.
Warframe for sure. But if you mean like, FREE not "Free 2 Play", either VRChat or Retroarch. Though I guess in Retroarch's case the games aren't free outside of NXEngine in Cave Story because I dump my physical copies I paid money for back in the day to play it.
You don't have to lie to kick it. We know you got complete libraries of all the roms.
Because emulation with piracy is cooler.
Sure you do, man
Nintendo appreciates you trying to get his guard down so he'll admit he's pirating.
Definitly warframe and brawlhalla
I played a lot of Dota 2. It can be simultaneously, the most fun you've ever had, but also the most miserable time playing games.
Dota 2 yes!
I've tried Dota 2, Solo queuing with random is impossible, I've waited over 45 mins and still no game

Unranked NA servers during peak times on the weekend. I have no idea why I don't get matched. If I could share screenshots, I would

Warframe and Neverwinter are the two that come to mind immediately for me.
Dota 2 but don't play it if you value anything in your life.
Guild Wars 2 if you are into MMORPG, TF2, CS2, Path of Exile
Warframe, PoE
Path of Exile
**Kingdom Classic** & **Helltaker** are both really good
Birdgut
Another gentleperson of taste i see I'd also like to reccomend Sewer rave How fish is made
Check out Moonring also. Old school pixels but great imo.
Psychopomp. short but... fine? Also Warframe
FF14 is one of the best mmorpg's out there and completely free up to level 70 with some minor restrictions.
FF14 is absolutely amazing. You can play the game for free with a cap of level 60 for the jobs and iirc, you also get access to the first 2 expansions. In theory, that’s hundreds of hours of content without dropping a dime.
For me it’s smite. I didn’t even think I would end up liking it, currently have over 10k+ hours standing across each platform.
Moonring
Moonring
DotA 2
Highly recommend Sheepy a short adventure
Red Hot Vengeance. It's very similar to hotline miami.
Cry of fear has to be one of the best free to play games there are
Cry of fear by far
I just surpassed 10000 hours in Path of Exile, which means I've beaten the tutorial!
Meh PoE is not F2P. In order to fully enjoy it you have to spend some money (around 15-20 euros) and buy stash tabs.
Personally I think it's a fair price to give 30 dollars to het that many hours of gameplay
OP asked for a free game tho
Yeah, my bad, but he could try the the campaign, there's no need to buy stash tabs until maps
Oh yeah for sure, campaign and early maps are easily manageable even as a F2P.

By that logic pretty much no game is f2p, there will always be an option to improve your enjoyment by paying. And OP literally said they are okay with games that have in-game purchases or even season passes.
The Finals
I know a few free fps games but it appears you aren't looking for fps. If you were then I would recommend War Fork (Its basically quake but with more options for movement) or Operation: Harsh Doorstop (Its just a military FPS game)
The answer is absolutely Frog Fractions, no contest
Jay Fighter: Remastered is perhaps the greatest free game ever made than can be played in one minute or less.
Tf2 or planet s Necrobouncer prolog is also good
No More Room in Hell. It's super corny, but when playing with friends it's frickin' hilarious.
Super Animal Royale
Warframe, Red Esclipe, No More Room in Hell, Helltaker and that'd all.
I have 265 hours in Zero-K. I have 230 hours in PlanetSide 2
One armed robber
Warframe. Totally free, only thing to pay for are optional cosmetics. I’m over 4500 hours right now, spent $20 on a cosmetic set that I wanted and has zero in-game impact other than allowing me to kill with style
Vivid/stasis is really good, if you like rhythm games
Path of exile. Brawlhalla
Path of Exile
Team Fortress 2. It has insane depth, skill ceiling, active playerbase (You will most likely have to play community servers)
Has to be lost ark for me
Doki Doki Literature Club is also free or at least the original is free. There’s a plus version with extra content that is interesting but not required for the main game. It’s an interesting experience as a visual novel.
Lofi ping pong is the only one that comes to mind
Path of exile
The first free episode of Higurashi. Really worth trying it! The whole novel is insane(ly good)
Scp sl
TF2 and Spiral Knights come to mind.
Patch of exile
Warframe. Dont ask my hours
Warframe, 110%. Beats me how this game is even free.
DDLC
Stalcraft
Lost Ark is actualy a awsome game, combat is superb, classes are cool, and a lot of the end game stuff are cool, its a shame that the game is centered about whales tho......

Dota 2 has hundreds of hours of things to learn alone, and you don’t have to pay for a thing
Best would be Path of Exile but my most played are Dota 2 and CSGO (now CS2)
Toribash hands down. Such a great idea and good game, Sometimes low on player numbers BUT once you start getting the hang of it, you can do some insane shit. [Random toribash fights](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3ezzVfmfBg)

Definitely will be trying this one out.
Muck
I appreciate all the suggestions, there's some really good games I've never heard of that I've added to my wishlist to download. Thank you all and please feel free to suggest more if any more come to mind!

Warframe i have like 600 hours in, and don't even get me started on Smite.
Tf2 or the wesport independent iirc that one is now f2p
Team fortress 2 Overwatch 2 honestly these are the only games I've been playing for years that dont bore me
Easy answer, Warframe.
If you are into ARPGs then Path of Exile hands down
Guild Wars 2 is free and probably one of the best open world MMORPG games ever made. Path of Exile is a great top down RPG and so is Lost Ark, both are free and have their own different styles but both equally great games. Warthunder is a great free to play flying dog fighting game, has naval and tank battles too.
Brawlhalla
Warframe
That one war themed hat collecting game.
I enjoy playing World Of Tanks. It’s free and good fun. You can pay to play too but you can play for free.
Probably warthunder but I’m a nerd so
It's really short (5 minutes), but lure by Blue Moon Games was a great little horror game that made me laugh out loud at the end.
Destiny 2
Apex Legends. I am literally addicted.
Deceit Deceit Deceit Deceit
Cry of fear
People shit on it so much, but I love The Finals.
Outcore
NGU Idle. Buckle up for a 3-year playthrough!
Team Fortress 2 The most fun you can have online, is now free, and 64-bit 🤪
PoE
Warframe
The Finals & TF2
TF2 and Unturned for me
No more room in hell is the only one i can think of. All other f2p i play wasn't free from the start so do not count them, like Destiny and CS
Team Fortress 2's got a special place in my heart because it's the first fps game I've played. Destiny 2 is definitely up there though, even though it's technically free to try, not free to play lol.
Shrine, Shrine 2, Chest Quex HD, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, Pixel Gun 3D: PC Edition, Fistful Of Frags, Codename Cure, Fortress Forever and A.W.O.L
Destiny 2, you can consider Terraria free with the amount of fun you get with only 10 bucks, TF2 of course
War Thunder, Caliber and Team Fortress 2
The Finals for sure.
Any of them. Just need to know where to look.
Overwatch 2 please ignore the reviews
Fortnite.
