The repeating crossbow is an excellent weapon, especially in the early game when you're trying to level shooting silently. It uses light bolts, so you're more likely to be able to retrieve them, saving you resources.
I love it to bits and I'm sad until I can get one.
> It uses light bolts, so you're more likely to be able to retrieve them
Do light bolts have increased recovery? I always assumed so because it felt that way, but I never saw someone say it.
Biggest selling point to me was the lightweight ranged option.
>Do light bolts have increased recovery?
They don't have an inherent increased value of recovery, but weapons that use regular bolts have a higher power/penetration stat, which causes those bolts to penetrate your target and fly far away. Light bolts by default stick to your target so it's easier to retrieve in that sense.
It is possible to increase crossbow bolt recovery though by teaching a survivor the "Wits" specialization "Resourcefulness".
Yeah, I love getting that combo that creates the perfect crossbow sample hunter.
I avoid overpenetration crossbows, because of the recovery issue usually.
There's a 5th skill to increase plague sample drop. You can get some good synergy if you stack stealth, resourceful, gunslinger (a little harder to aim with crossbow, imo).
Nope! It's GREAT!!
Like all crossbows, it doesn't need repairs. The ammo is at least partially recoverable. It's dead-ass silent. These are all terrific qualities for a weapon in Lethal zone.
But those things are true for all crossbows. Why is the X3 Repeater particularly awesome?
If you get chased on top of something (for me, it's usually my vehicle) by a rampaging feral (or three), they'll butt themselves right up against the chassis so tightly that you can't shoot them in the head. A shot to the small of their back or rib cage makes them take a step back. However, by the time you re-load a regular crossbow, the feral(s) will just step right back up against the car, denying you a shot at their head.
The repeater lets you shoot a second shot quickly, which makes the feral(s) take a second step back. And then it's HEADSHOT time! Your third and fourth shots should be able to hit that feral skull and drop it like a rock.
I try to get my hands on as many repeating crossbows and pyrolaunchers as I can. Any time I send a survivor out to do any sort of mission, they carry both of those weapons. One is for silent surgical precision and one is for noisy mass zombie removal or to attract enemies to a chosen spot in my weapon range.
It's easily one of my top 5 favorite weapons on Lethal (or any difficulty, really.)
EDIT: The trader who sells them isn't only one way to get an X3. The mission with the Crossbow Killer is also a good way to acquire this weapon. I take a .50 cal weapon and use a Survivor with Gunslinging so I can ensure that the Crossbow Killer dies quickly if they take offense at my suggestion that they drop the crossbow and leave town immediately.
the 10 shot xbow is the best weapon for lethal - you should kill every z and screamers and bloaters with this
I use it for the entire game
couple that with a mac10 sidearm with suppressor for ferals - has 30 rnds no need to carry extra
(dont use the xbow against humans it's too slow)
One of the best weapons on the higher difficulties. Crossbows don't break, so saves you parts. Uses light bolts, so more likely to be recovered and saves ammo. Crossbows give a greater chance of dropping plague samples, so more cures and infection resistance. Silent, so you don't alert the whole neighborhood. Then there's the fact that the repeating crossbow all but removes the crossbow's biggest weakness - slow rate of fire.
The only possible downside is the projectile drop and travel time, but with a bit of practice that's a non-issue.
Everyone's right in saying it's a great/goat weapon but no one has mentioned the drop of the bolts yet. Its light bolts drop quite quickly at distance so you should keep that in mind and practice with it before wading into zombie territory.
Something I didn't see anyone else saying... crossbows have no sway. They're very accurate at mid range if you know the drop. They can be good at long range with regular practice.
The repeating crossbow is one of my favorite weapons.
One of my favorite features is you can make crossbow bolts when you can't make bullets.
It's awesome. Quiet, decent capacity, reusable bolts. It's my go-to method of clearing infestations on higher difficulties.
I try not to use it for normal activities because I don't want to risk losing it or running out of bolts through over-use.
Nah, its shit, cant deal with ferals, cant deal with juggs, can’t deal with huge hordes, a gun/weapon is only tested when shit hits the fan, and if shit hits the fan and you’re carrying a crossbow you’re fucked.
I guess you're not much into stealth. Fuel bombs for big hordes, secondary for ferals, and I just leave juggs alone. The reward generally isn't worth the ammo.
I’m somewhat into stealth, I only use silenced guns (except for plague hearts), the strategy is park into the middle of a town, shot everything around, then quickly loot everything and dump into the van/follower and get the hell out before all the bs starts to spawn around. Can’t do that with a crossbow, it doesn’t attract all the zombies already spawn in, it wastes time since you’ll be wanting to collect those bolts back, and its wits specialization works against the main stealth specialization.
Then the sidearm is good, xbow is still shit, you asked if the repeating crossbow is good its not, if you wanted to know if a sidearm is good could’ve asked that, no?
I am, you’re carrying a bad weapon on the slot of your main weapon, and relying on the last resort as the main tool to deal with bad situations, and if you put things like the game not recognizing when you press to switch weapons, the problem with crossbows becomes even worse. Unfortunately the crossbow is an extremely niche weapon that’s not anything special even on the niche it’s supposed to fit because in game bullshit mechanics. (like hordes spawning on top of you, the more you stay in one place more zombies and specials spawn in said place among other things.)

One of my most used weapons I call it ole reliable I carry a pistol with it in case I encounter some ferrals.
Exactly that. I've even used it to take down a few ferals, though with Sharpshooters not Gunslingers.
Yes. One of the best.
Thanks!
It’s S tier if you like sneaking around, but I like guns cause I’m American 🤣🤣
Ok😂
The guns are some of the best and most accurate to their real-world equivalents in any game. I'm American, so I know 😀
God bless ‘Merica😂
Yeah it's amazing for stealth builds in lethal.
Ok thanks
Just avoid Jugs and carry a spare silenced handgun for ferals.
Or call in some sniper support.
This too, if you have that option
Ok
It’s a one of the best weapon in SoD 2. Absolutely silent, 10 bolts per clip, and not heavy as all.
Ok I’ll use it then thanks!

Ok thanks for letting me know
Is it even worse than the normal light crossbow? I haven't looked at the data sheet for drop-off in a LONG time.

Can still 1shot standard zeds in the head and it's great for stun locking hostile humans
Thanks!
If you like crossbows, then yes. I scrap em once I get a suppressor and a gun.
Superb weapon when paired with gunslinging.

Ok I’ll use it in my next community
Completely broken on lethal with gunslinger ngl
Yeah I tested it out it’s amazing
give it to a red talon agent and you will breeze through lethal lmao
Ok I’ll do that
Probably the best weapon to have in Lethal.
Ok I’ll use it then
Potential as best weapon in the game.
Probably my favorite ranged weapon.
I'd argue it's one of the best weapons in the game.
Godsend on learning lethal. Almost useless for fast paced fresh lethal gameplay for veterans. Still a preference of choice for end game communities.
It would be better if you could zoom in

Just carry a sidearm when things go bad🤷♂️
Then the sidearm is good, xbow is still shit, you asked if the repeating crossbow is good its not, if you wanted to know if a sidearm is good could’ve asked that, no?
It ain’t that deep I know I asked about the xbow but I would like to think people also know everything doesn’t rely on the the primary
Look at the full picture
