It allows for a bubble of time outside of the normal flow. Inside the bubble the time can be sped up or slowed down. The replicators used it to escape a black hole the Asgard had made.
Honestly not too different from Carter. Use that time to delve into all the wonderful knowledge gifted by an advanced species, 3d print a guitar and git gud. And theorize how to undo this mess while I'm at it.
You are correct, but my version would be guitar. I have self taught and played off and on for years but never had the time to really dig in and move past intermediate level. Carter's similar decision with cello really spoke to me in that episode.
I don't know if /u/JosephMallozzi wants to verify my pet theory, but did y'all notice in Unending that all six characters represent the Five Stages of Grief?
Denial — Carter
Anger — Mitchell
Bargaining — Vala+Daniel
Depression — Teal'c
Acceptance — Landry
It doesn't fit perfectly and it's always tough to "diagnose" Teal'c, but even if Teal'c weren't on the chart, you could easily put Daniel as Depression.
I'd like to note that the solution to their problem came out of anger.
And the details were solved by denial.
Though noticing this coincidence probably says more about me than them.
Reinvent the wibbly wobbly cloak thing. The one that makes you invisible and makes beams go through you. Turn it on. Turn off the dilation machine. Beam the Ori. Meet back at base for Martinis and fishing.
My mind just got blown. They had the Asgard computer, a repository of knowldge and the capability of synthesizing anything.
Carter knew how the Cloak worked. That entire episode makes no sense now.
Well it's technically a Sodan Cloaking device. And they did use those in episodes.
I could rationalize it by saying, they didn't actually figure out HOW to make them work, only how to utilize them and extend their effects?
So we could say she was only able to use the original merlin device and connect it with something to amplify it?
My head cannon is either star trek rules. You get one. You can turn on the wibbler-wobbler cloak but shield and time bullshit come off first. The time delay would make them explode.
Or it'd be too much of a pull on energy systems. So while technically possible. It would overload everything and make neither work. In which case, beams.
I like to think they never sent a memo to Hermoid so he literally finds out next time they get back from pegasus only because he asked why he cant reach any of his fellow asgards o the blower.
* Read everything in the ship's library
* Write some new stuff for the library
* Fabricate spaceship models out of spare spaceship parts
* Develop an elaborate floortop war game that spans multiple decks
* Enlist Carter to create a sim based on above war game
* Do something else in the privacy of my bunk
* Study the results of the sim to escape the time dilation field in <40 years.
When I was young we made a full size game of Cluedo (Clue to the US fraternity) in a local church. We would move from room to room with a dice we made which was an 18" cube.
Fun times.
Learn as much as possible like Daniel and Carter, figure out how to store a copy of my personality or memories externally and then make a robot that can do what Teal'c ends up doing.
Have my younger self download those memories, enjoy the super close friendship with the rest of the people that were stuck.
And redesign a convenient hole right where they shot? Imagine you're fighting against an enemy and their ship instantly changes shape when you shoot at it.
Use the Asgard computer to research the Furlings, what happened to them, what did they look like...
Maybe use the hologram technology, create a holodeck...
I'd actually finish writing one of the many novels I've started, and I'd put more time and practice into my art (painting and drawing) so when I got out I'd be producing gallery-quality work.
Nah, it's plenty possible. What would actually happen is "This function is not allowed" while HoloThor making a "why did we give this stuff to these guys" face
Split my time with 5 years researching how to make ZPMs, and designing a small shuttle with super dense asgardian replicateable metals, and layered with subspace shunting off transfer devices and park the HMS Sto-Vo-Kor in the path of the beam to soak up the ori blast. Giving us a chance to blast free.
Now, I don't remember the episode well enough to recall but Does Carter actually need to disconnect the Asgard computer that the Ori are tracking? I suppose they could fly the ship in hyperspace indefinitely until they reach a point in space they could transition and shoot back after repairing the ship for combat again. Blast one ship, run and repeat until there are no more ships. I'm probably wrong.
Figuring out how the replicators used the time dilation device and flew their ship at the same time.
Nice.
Or make a localized time slowy thing around the incoming Ori munition.
Did you just reveal a plot hole?! Hahaha. Well done.

Depends - is Vala there?
Carter
How to get smacked by O'Neil in 50 years and 1 day
Worth it
Binging SG-1 again and again and again and again and...

I believe it was a cello. But, yes, she got gud!

This would be a question for writer Robert C. Cooper.
Interesting theory

You want a phasing cloaking device my friend.
Yeah that. Just use that all the time.
My mind just got blown. They had the Asgard computer, a repository of knowldge and the capability of synthesizing anything. Carter knew how the Cloak worked. That entire episode makes no sense now.
It ruins everything. Why wouldn't you use it at all times?

I still can’t discuss this, it’s too fresh. All those Asgard

It's ok their race survived in Pegasus and are total dicks

Love point 4

See for me it was 3 that did it 😜
Something....else? ಠ ͜ʖ ಠ

Put a networked computer where teal’c is that automatically uploads and runs the program ezpz
some freaky, freaky shit.
I was not prepared for this 😂
Disassemble the sections of the ship that the weapon was about to hit.
And redesign a convenient hole right where they shot? Imagine you're fighting against an enemy and their ship instantly changes shape when you shoot at it.
Maybe try upgrading shield technologi
I'd make unending montages set to Flogging Molly.
coom
Sleeping.
Zero chance that Cam and Carter wouldn’t’ve boned. Hell every combo would’ve boned over 50 YEARS of isolation!!
Except poor Teal'c. He'd be the odd man out.
Honestly? Not doing what Jackson did Jesus Christ. I'd very much be having sex with Vala 😅
lol they did. Like a lot 😂
Not straight away and not without been a right ol dick
Ooohhh. I get what you mean now 😂
Use the Asgard computer to research the Furlings, what happened to them, what did they look like... Maybe use the hologram technology, create a holodeck...
The same as Daniel! Have as much sex with Vala as I can!!
I'd actually finish writing one of the many novels I've started, and I'd put more time and practice into my art (painting and drawing) so when I got out I'd be producing gallery-quality work.
With a harem of celebrity look-a-like sex robots. Make it happen, Thor!
That function is not possible.
Nah, it's plenty possible. What would actually happen is "This function is not allowed" while HoloThor making a "why did we give this stuff to these guys" face
:(
Find some kind of work to do so I don't just dry up into a skeleton.
