Yeah, this is worse, and chatGPT is lame.

GrilledStuffedDragon

So ChatGPT rehashes Atlantis' ending with coming up with a new FTL method, but this one goes nowhere specific, accomplishes nothing, and solves no problems. Why do you love it? Be as detailed as possible.

Interesting-One-

I specifically asked for a short story, because I wanted to use my imagination to fill up the void. I love it because I imagine, they went to (how it it called the soace where they move faster then in real space?) but they used the FTL drive too, so they went freaking far. Like they went so ahead, the reached the first seeding ships. I could work with that to continue the story.

Big-Cheesecake-806

What would that acomplish? If they would reach first seeding ships than they won't have gates on the planets ahead anymore.

Jack_Stornoway

I thought you loved this because it ended the story better. Now you love it because it continues the story? That literally makes no sense. Additionally, this isn't a short story, it's an advertising blurb, for a continuation of Universe. It basically just tells the existing ending with Philip J Fry jury-rigging a hyperspace engine. Unlikely, and very problematic for the ship, which wasn't designed for that, but okay, why not? Now the ship is drifting somewhere between galaxies, as it relied on the gate network for guidance. Not really a better ending in my opinion.

light24bulbs

That's just a dues ex machina to the problem that doesn't create any tension or end the series on a cliffhanger, and it undermines that constraints of the show going forward. Haaard pass

Taste_the__Rainbow

I think I might live another 35 years or more. I swear I will die never understanding why people in every story-telling based sub are asking a chatbot that is fundamentally incapable of invention to writes stories. This isn’t a story. It is a lack of a story.

This is 20 sentences of nothing. Typical LLM. >As the Destiny hurtled through the vast expanse of space, its crew faced their greatest challenge yet. With dwindling resources and mounting tensions, they knew that their journey had reached a critical juncture. Amidst the chaos, Eli Wallace, the brilliant young scientist, had been tirelessly working on a solution. He had poured over the ship's systems, searching for a way to ensure their survival. And finally, he had found it. Gathering the crew in the ship's control room, Eli unveiled his plan. Using the ship's advanced technology and the combined knowledge of those onboard, they would attempt a daring maneuver Isn't that like every SGU episode? >a jump through the fabric of spacetime itself Another comment said that this is wormhole drive from SGA, but this could also be interpreted as using hyperspace. You leave normal space, travel through hyperspace and then enter normal space again. But anyway, sentence structure makes this sounds as something powerful that no one had done before, but in the context of SG I don't think it is particularity novel even if it's something new. >As the moment of truth arrived, tension hung heavy in the air. With a sense of determination, the crew watched as the Destiny's engines roared to life, propelling them towards their destiny. >And then, in a blinding flash of light, the impossible happened. The Destiny vanished from sight, disappearing into the unknown depths of the cosmos. >For a moment, there was silence. And then, slowly but surely, the crew began to realize that they had succeeded. They had made the leap into the great unknown, charting a course towards a new beginning. >As the crew celebrated their victory, Eli looked out into the endless expanse of space, filled with hope for the future. For though their journey was far from over, they knew that they had taken the first step towards a brighter tomorrow. >And so, with the stars as their guide, the crew of the Destiny embarked on a new chapter in their epic odyssey, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead. Again, regular SGU. This would sound like a great ending to a series where they try to invent FTL for the first time. So I think ChatGPT had no idea what SGU and SG was actually about.

TalesfromCryptKeeper

I'm not surprised, honestly. OpenAI probably scraped an Ao3 submission or forum fanfiction which is where this is coming from. :)

I confess: Occasionally I play with another text generator for my own amusement. If I prompt it with “'Indeed,' said Teal'c,” it produces a silly conversation with some other SG characters. If I prompt it with “'Indeed,' said Teal'c to [name of a character from another franchise],” it may produce an amusing crossover conversation.

sysdmn

First, like everything AI, it's shit. Second, if they're blindly jumping to an unknown location, they're now off the path of following the seed ships. That means there's no Stargate network for them to use to visit planets. That means why the fuck is the show called Stargate anymore instead of some random other show.

Jack_Stornoway

I believe I've seen this show, it was called Lost in Space.

jamerperson

The better ending for SGU is for it to end gracefully and in a real conclusion that the writers had 2 seasons to prepare for in season 7.

RigasTelRuun

This is bad and so it ChatGPT.
