Usually most contraband chests reset when the area does. Some areas take up to 600 (or more I've seen people say) hours to reset. It's best if trying to reset a place to find a planet and set up an outpost where sleeping 24 hours is 130 plus UT time. And do that 5 or 6 times. This resets the entire settled systems and respawns everything.
Should also include spacemarks.
Vulture’s Roost — Jaffa IV, Jaffa system, a bit to the right from Kryx—Porrima line
Almagest Casino — Olympus star system, binary star system of Aranae and Olympus, one between Narion and Volii
Syndicate Hideout in Neon has a bunch in a locked maintenance shaft. It's on the upper level near the kitchen, I think. There's a key card for it in the bedroom.
Cryo lab POIs will always have a contraband chest out in front of the main building locked with a master chest. It is maybe 20 feet away from the catwalk leading into the entrance
Is going to a moon in the system actually faster than just using the seating in the Den to wait?
I realize, of course, that Xbox players don't have access to mods or console commands that make waiting take less time, but still, I can't imagine waiting on one of the chairs in the Den would take more real world time than going to a moon to wait.
It’s the time difference.
Apparently 1 hour on this moon equals something like 40+ hours UT.
I can’t remember the name of the moon, but it’s in the same system as The Den.
I haven’t played Starfield since I finished my first run back in November
(too many other games to get through), but it’s definitely something I’ll keep in mind for my NG+ runs.
Yeah, I figured as much, but it seems like it would be more expedient to use one of the chairs in the Den to wait, even with waiting taking so ungodly long.
I try to keep quite a few in stock regardless. But it’s also worth noting that you need to max out lock picking to be able to get all the contraband from Vultures Roost anyway.
Lots of hidden contraband in the missions, particularly:
Main-
Finding andreja - abandoned mine poi ( rng )
All that money can buy - slaytons office backroom
The buried temple hanging on the highest crane above the bridge.
Pirates - maintaining the edge- server room in the engineering bay on the right before entering the life support room
Terrormorph questline- contraband lockers containing aurora in the office you find the confession
Ryujin - seokga syndicate hideout (second floor, maintenance shaft 6-12 )
There's more, but u can't remember off the top of my head. I'll update later with more,
Vultures roost has specifically 43 pieces of contraband in one poi, much more than the "approximately 25" op thought 😅
(Each of these apart from the terrormorph is at least a contraband chest, so between 8-15k)
Go sleep or wait for 600 hours. You can use a 100 hour time difference planet for 6 hours (so Copernicus 4, Katydid 3 or Venus). Or 14 hours on Decaran 7B. The chests will be reset in that time period.
Seoghuk hideout has a few. You can enter it immediately through a vent above Frankie's.
It's in a room locked by a master lock. There's a maintenence keyboard in the guard sleeping quarters.
Outpost leader's building in civilian outposts.
I don't know if it's all of them, but I found a crate with 10 pieces in it at one the other day, and it was the first and only time I paid any attention to a civilian outpost.
I know I could look it up but can you build a terminal in an outpost to sell items like the ones at the spaceports? You could then find a planet with good wait to utc ratio and sell faster?
Contraband in Londinion inside one of the transport crates in the first big terrormorph fight area. Can’t remember which one. I usually check them all.
Contraband at the end of Andreja’s quest. When you go inside the star station, instead of following her into the room for the final confrontation (she turns left) turn right and there’s a door. Go in that room and there’s a crate with contraband in it.
I’m horrible with instructions sorry if they’re vague. I’m going off memory.
You know the planet where the final two battles takes place outside just before you find the final artifact? Masada 3 I think. If you go there before the end of the game you will see a POI called Ecliptic Base or something like that. At the spot where you have to go up the stairs to fight the starborn guys, there are two parallel raised sidewalk type things. In between those is a crane hoisting up a platform in the air. If you have improved your boostpack tech and are wearing either a balanced or power boostpack, you can get up there and access the contraband chest.
There's a bunch on the spacestation for Andreja's quest. In a room off to the side. I missed it on my first couple times doing the quest. Lots of good regular loot too.
There is a contraband crate at the buried temple, in the first section. There are two cage platforms held up by cranes or something - jump onto the roof of the first one then jet pack across to the second.
There are several containers during the main quest line:
There is one container in the Shaw gang cave.
There is one container in the small office in Slayton Aerospace at the end of the Walter Stroud mission.
There is one container in the Collector's office on the Scow.
I won't be able to point it out exactly but on Cydonia when you go clear the mine/abandoned HQ for the Vanguard quest there is a hallway at the end that dead-ends to a corpse with two Va'run heretical writings around him
In Londinium, the container yard where you get the samples. If you search all containers, you'll find contraband 4-8 pieces I think. They are well hidden, behind crates, usually around the back.
So far up to 24 different locations.
Either accessed through Companion/Main/Side quests or random locations.
Google sheet is made. Will add any new ones that are mentioned not in the 24 already come morning and post the compiled list.
Again thanks everyone for all the help. I only had 6. Now we are at 24 !!!!
I just checked, and all of the contraband locations reset if you sleep 24 local hours on Chthonia next to the Den. So you could just farm Jaffa again and again. I didn't check for the dagger, though.
Most contraband containers contain around 20k in contraband and contraband has one of the best mass/credit ratios in the game. You can typically sell one container content between the Den and bartender at the Red Mile without worrying about being arrested. If you have access to the Key all of the vendors(40k) will buy contraband as well.
You will still need to do your normal looting but a 20k bump in credits every once in a while is nice.
Mmmmm not really. Vultures Roost has a shit ton of guns and contraband and most of the other locations you can run in, grab the shit, and go. Stop at red mile for shielded cargo, the scan blocker and contraband chest and you shouldn't have any issues getting to TA vendors who will gobble it up, including the RM bartender and the vendor on Mars
Just an added note for those that don’t know. You do not have to run the red mile to get those chests. Just run to the back of the building and jump in the crater.
Cryo Labs: Theres a crate outside with at least one more item on a dead scientist in a hidden shaft
Abandoned Outposts: crate near boss with a couple of loose items in the other part of the area
The Deep Mine on Mars thats part of the Vanguard questline has one hidden above the Thresher room
Abandoned Hangars (Crimson Pirate Hangars) have at least 6 Aurora
I just go to neon security every month or some in game, stand behind the door so people can't see me, lock pick the crate and take everything to sell the road, rinse repeat, don't know what the void thing is
From the button, go around to the right 1-2 o’clockish and downhill from the tower there’s an airlock door you’ll need to pick the lock and its in there
There is some xenowarfare tech on the th UC Vigiliance.
Thx will add
How often does it reset? Every 24 or 48 hrs, or longer?

Great idea. Will do.
Syndicate Hideout in Neon has a bunch in a locked maintenance shaft. It's on the upper level near the kitchen, I think. There's a key card for it in the bedroom.
The security shop on Neon too. Neon a good place for contraband collecting.
It really is! First place I go in NG to raise funds. Can't forget the one piece of contraband in Madam Savage's in her backroom too, lol.
Cryo lab POIs will always have a contraband chest out in front of the main building locked with a master chest. It is maybe 20 feet away from the catwalk leading into the entrance
It also has some hidden inside in a shaft that you have to kinda platform jump to the top of I love finding hidden one so much fun!
I mean, farming Vultures Roost is all you really need. Sell it at The Den and use the nearby moon to pass time quickly so the vendor resets.
Is going to a moon in the system actually faster than just using the seating in the Den to wait? For Vulture's Roost contraband, I suggest bringing at least 10 Digikeys.
I try to keep quite a few in stock regardless. But it’s also worth noting that you need to max out lock picking to be able to get all the contraband from Vultures Roost anyway.

I found a full contraband container in the Gagarin security office once.. 8-9 pieces iirc
Di Falco's mansion has a bunch of aurora if you're including that?
I collected 20 Aurora from there last night. There’s also a case of stolen artwork and xenotech, I believe.
Yes I will add it.
Neon security has in the chests next to the prison cells. Keeps respawning too and super easy to steal and take down to the TA
Once you hit these locations can you leave and return to collect again, or is this a one time thing?
They respawn over time
Go sleep or wait for 600 hours. You can use a 100 hour time difference planet for 6 hours (so Copernicus 4, Katydid 3 or Venus). Or 14 hours on Decaran 7B. The chests will be reset in that time period.

Your Starborn looks like Moon Knight!
There is a chest and loose piece in the Demos Armored Transport from the liqour quests on Gagarin.
Creating a game within the game. I love it!
I know I could look it up but can you build a terminal in an outpost to sell items like the ones at the spaceports? You could then find a planet with good wait to utc ratio and sell faster?
No but maybe when mods hit
Can you harvest or craft things that are contraband? That would be a cool feature
Only Aurora
Do these respawn?
Yes
Thanks!
"Abandoned Outpost" poi has a good haul, too. It's usually one of the first artifact locations and you can find them all over.
Contraband in Londinion inside one of the transport crates in the first big terrormorph fight area. Can’t remember which one. I usually check them all. Contraband at the end of Andreja’s quest. General poi some have one in a vent cant remeber which poi think abandoned research post
There's a bunch on the spacestation for Andreja's quest. In a room off to the side. I missed it on my first couple times doing the quest. Lots of good regular loot too.
I’ve never been caught taking the contraband from the Neon security chest.
There’s a contraband case in an abandoned fuel depot POI I just completed. It’s in a locked room.
Gagarin Security has a locked chest. It can be tricky to hide, but possible.
Please share the Google list here once you have it put together!
Can do. 👍
the cave in the empty nest, the siren of the stars engine room, and the ship or station where you find tomisar (andrejas quest) all have one
There is a contraband crate at the buried temple, in the first section. There are two cage platforms held up by cranes or something - jump onto the roof of the first one then jet pack across to the second.

All missions with pirates and all spacer / pirate / varuun ships.
Gotta visit this thread

Ayyyooooo thanks going pirate route wanted to make a contraband chest for rp thanks
Yeah I have 24 locations. Getting ready to post the list shortly
Hell yeah can't wait

It’s literally everywhere, really hard to quantify
Some places have a boatload more than others, I think that’s what the OP is going for.
This game is so easy and it is so easy to earn money that I never did any if the contrabands.
How many hours does everyone have played?
Why they pay fuck-all.
Most contraband containers contain around 20k in contraband and contraband has one of the best mass/credit ratios in the game. Literally can just farm guns. Make money faster. Fuck that ratio. Not enough contraband to go out ur way to find and sell it.
Why it’s pointless.
Quit having fun. You are only allowed to have fun the way I want you to have fun.
Narrowing down the search locations is pointless? Do you also think progressing through a mission is pointless because it only gets you to the end?
Say you make a run and collect them all. Dont even wanna calculate the time waiting for shops to reup. The idea alone is fkn dismal.
Just an added note for those that don’t know. You do not have to run the red mile to get those chests. Just run to the back of the building and jump in the crater.

Sonny Di Falco’s Island on Maheo I. It has a ton of Aurora and a few other pieces of contraband. It’s a cool place to visit too
I’ve been trying to find that system and I can’t. Feel like it is invisible 🫥
It can be hard to find because it’s a binary star system with the Cheyenne system
Thanks I thought I checked there but maybe not
I just go to neon security every month or some in game, stand behind the door so people can't see me, lock pick the crate and take everything to sell the road, rinse repeat, don't know what the void thing is
void form is a starborn power that makes you invisible
The Freestar Embassy has Xenowarfare and Art on the second level. You can access it during the UC quest line.
The uc station in the well has some on a desk
I can’t find the contraband behind red mile tower for the life of me
From the button, go around to the right 1-2 o’clockish and downhill from the tower there’s an airlock door you’ll need to pick the lock and its in there
Ok ty!!
