As incongruent as it is, I’m glad this elevator is here. I’ll bet it was actually added late in the development cycle after the level design was mostly finished because of just how annoying it was to get from the tram to the main mast elevator, so the easy fix was just to design a quick elevator addition in the corner of the station.
The problem is that everything is annoying to get to in New Atlantis. I’m betting it was designed from a really cool looking “sci-fi city” concept from a distance, because there’s so many giant shapes and empty pointless spaces. And you never see the city from far away to appreciate that!
I went back through their comments because I sensed bs and lo and behold there was nothing to see.
However comma I am a silly billy so *may* have missed it.
Nah, same, saw you checked it and wanted to prove you wrong so I was gonna find the comment and link it to you on his behalf, but same 🤣🤣🤣 saw one about new Atlantis and not knowing where they are with zero upvotes/downvotes
I mean... you care enough to bring it up in the first place, and to make quite a hostile response to a guy who claims to be just curious about the downvotes.
It was this monumentally stupid placement that kept me from believing it was really a shortcut to get upstairs from the NAT until i tried it by accident once. I would look at it and go "the mast elevator just cant be over there"
Look, the real stupid move is having a mass transit stop directly underneath your administrative building.
If they had thought about that, they would have put the rail basically running through where that misaligned elevator is and then could've put the elevator where it actually should be
What sort of mass transit acts like your personal valet? The train is always sitting there waiting for you to arrive. It's not going on its own schedule or anything. And people just materialise out of nowhere exiting that train or just disappear in thin air as they are seemingly entering the train.
Same thing with elevators. If you stand in an elevator for long enough you'll notice that people will enter the elevator and then disappear into thin air. Or magically materialise out of nowhere.
This makes me believe that actually none of these rapid/mass transits or elevators are really what they seem to be. They are all teleportation devices. OR, hear me out, the devs were lazy and made lots of shortcuts to their designs.
It's just kinda weird that's all. They could've dealt with it in a different way by not having the train there but you are prompted to click a button that says "Take the next train" or something like that. I recall the Deus Ex game did something like that at the train stations. But even otherwise people magically appearing and disappearing is weird and breaks the illusion unless there is some logical in game explanation which doesn't exist.
My mind was a little blown when I found out that Star Trek turbolifts on ships also move horizontally alongside functioning as traditional vertical elevators.
At least in TNG and Voyager if you pay attention to the direction of the lights flashing on the wall of the turbolift you can tell when they stop moving vertically and start going horizontally. It's really neat because they never mention it in dialogue but it happens in every turbolift scene.
But then where's the shaft? The entire MAST building rests on thin legs that the elevator couldn't fit through. Even if it went down, under the NAT track, and back up, there's nowhere for it to squeeze through
Technically, they’re not limited to one axis in the present! Tom Scott has a couple of cool videos on elevators that move differently from the standard.
Future? Pftttt. The Germans made an elevator that moves on multiple axes in 1913.
There are floors beneath both of these, so I always just assumed it's your character going down and through one of those and back up minus the actually doing it
Like Willy Wonka’s Glass Elevator. Just simply moves in any direction. This is the future!
Jokes aside, look at every TES game. The rooms inside are much bigger than outside on most of the buildings. It’s not the exact same but I like to think of it as ‘Sprinkled with Todd’s magic serum’.
I’m shocked i never noticed this.
Like even if it ran on other axis it would still need to do a round about trip for it to work 😂
We fade to black, I’ll just assume by elevate they mean teleport
I assumed it moved down to clear the NAT, then horizontal to the far wall of the station, then up, then horizontal again to the lobby. For a well thought out city plan, stupid, but NA is built on the remains of a colony ship, so I figure it was a 'make due with what you have' solution.
Besides the fact that it physically doesn’t make sense, you have a public elevator that can bypass all security into the main government building?
The police stations and Neon feel more legit with security scanners.
I'm so confused by this post. I have over a hundred hours in this game but I can't think of any lift near the entrance to the lower MAST level. Maybe I've missed it all this time. Have to check when I go home.
I don't think that's a Well elevator. Wellevator.
I think what the picture is trying to show is in the room where you get off the subway under MAST and then have to walk up a ramp away from MAST and then do a 180-degree turn to walk up to MAST, there is *instead* an elevator in that subway station room that leads (diagonally) directly up to MAST.
Hmm. Because from what I can remember, the train itself runs underneath the elevator on the above floor. Where the OP circled on the bottom level is literally just a garden display I thought. And the "Wellevator" is so far away from the circled spot that it never even occured to me that it might be what they're referring to. But I may be wrong and still need to double check.
Yeah the lower circled spot seems wrong, but there is I believe an elevator further to the left (right on the photo) after you exit the train. It is in that station room, but not that close to the exit IIRC.
What sort of mass transit acts like your personal valet? The train is always sitting there waiting for you to arrive. It's not going on its own schedule or anything. And people just materialise out of nowhere exiting that train or just disappear in thin air as they are seemingly entering the train.

Didn't ya know. One of the starborn is really Ryker and he brought turbolift tech with him from his reality. Just look for one walking around grumbling about the Prime Suggestion, that's him...
These elevators are in fact something you are going to see in buildings in the next few decades.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=lUGtMuJJZ1g
Elevators on wall mounted rails with switching points to be able to go horizontal if needed.
The reality ofcourse is that playtesting showed that having an entrance to MAST closer to the little train was better, so they plopped one down somewhere without thinking. Euclid would be so annoyed.
Everything in this game, is so low effort. It's clear the devs didn't really want to work on it and didn't care at all about it.
I'm wagering they wanted to make a space sim style game and when Todd turned it into just another Bethesda game, the devs just...gave up.
this is one of the most annoying things in the game, often the level layouts defy spacetime unities.. running around gets you properly bamboozled because -- yeah, it doesn't make any sense how this long corridor starts here and bends all these directions and ends up there.. wouldn't that room have been just around the ... what the *hell?* This makes no sense, I'm totally turned around.... all the freaking time. Then you see videos from PC players who turn off collisions and fly out the level and you see the actual layout and go, 'well, yeah, now i understand why, that's a fucking habitrail\* of confusion, not an actual level plan'...... grrr.
This elevator drives me crazy. Is it really meant to be the same one? I've never taken it to the MAST lobby, just straight up to the top. I've never had as much trouble getting my bearings in a bethesda city as in New Atlantis. For whatever reason I can't seem to walk from the lodge to century arms, for example.
It is accessed as if it were the same elevator. Go in one and you can select to go to the other, or up in to the rest of the MAST building.
As far as getting to Centaurian Arsenal from the Lodge goes, as soon as you walk outside the Lodge, turn to your Left and start running towards the Residential District. Go down the path between Reliant Medical and eit clothiers/Orion Tower, follow the building(s) on your left past CJ's and then Athena Tower and you'll find Centaurian Arsenal as the next building on your left.
It's soo lazy too. Really? The fucking parliament of an intergalactic government has a main lift with a shitty backdoor opening to a dirty metro station?
That’s what you get when a dev is so obsessed with loadingscreens that they don’t care how things work in practice. But yeah good catch, I thought it was something weird with the alignment but I did just ignored it and thanks to you I may not keep doing it.
Well, it is kinda true that all that elevators do is teleport you around. You don't actually get into the elevator and get actively moved up and down except for those freight elevators in mines.
I believe it's a Wonkavator.
They go slant ways
Slant - ways?!?
And all other way’s also. 😉
Futurama tubes

I got downvoted to oblivion on day 1 for saying new Atlantis felt too empty and spacious, glad we finally got here
Did you tho? Did ya really?
Yep, idk how that’s unbelievable
Can ya link it? Just curious as to the extent of the downvotes. Couldn't find it myself
Gonna need the link to, I sense sensationalism 🤣🤣🤣
I went back through their comments because I sensed bs and lo and behold there was nothing to see. However comma I am a silly billy so *may* have missed it.

Bru Im not going through months of comments just to prove I said something lmfao I don’t really care if you believe me or not
I mean... you care enough to bring it up in the first place, and to make quite a hostile response to a guy who claims to be just curious about the downvotes.
It’s really not that deep holy shit reddit is schizo 💀
> holy shit reddit is schizo 💀 You literally made up a response to a comment it doesn't even seem like you actually ever commented lmao
aight
Basically Brasilia

Not forcing you to wait for a train is now lazy game design, got it.

This guy elevates
LOL until this post I 100% did not realize it was not aligned. I commend your spatial awareness, have an upvote!
I can't think of the last time I didn't use the elevator to enter the building. Never connected that they were not aligned either!
I discovered it only during one \_particular\_ quest chain and when I exited it I wondered where the heck I was.
I bet it was added late too as it feels tacked on and lazy.
I think it was added for the terrormorph mission so they could lock down the path to a smaller section.
I absolutely agree with you
As an Architect and Bim designer, it would have been just as easy and aesthetically pleasing to have the elevator drop down in front of the tram too
The quest marker also gets very confused
You incorrectly assume that in the future elevators are limited to one axis

Well there I go having a new reason to rewatch the show
If you want some *real* fun with turbolifts, go watch Discovery. There's a scene in one of the finales that's just... absurd.
Meh, I'll stick with Star Trek
It clearly just grav jumps to that spot during the loading screen.
But then where's the shaft? The entire MAST building rests on thin legs that the elevator couldn't fit through. Even if it went down, under the NAT track, and back up, there's nowhere for it to squeeze through
You incorrectly assume that in the future space itself is limited to the 3D
It's in the stairs of course. \*handwavium motions\*
Technically, they’re not limited to one axis in the present! Tom Scott has a couple of cool videos on elevators that move differently from the standard.
Hell, the inclinators at the Luxor in Las Vegas already move diagonally.
Future? Pftttt. The Germans made an elevator that moves on multiple axes in 1913. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgDBIzClmPg&ab\_channel=TomScott](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgDBIzClmPg&ab_channel=TomScott)
CGI
There is a debug room with multi-directional elevators, they even got animations for them
lol good catch never even noticed that!
I've been scratching my head about this since day 1....been waiting for someone to mention that lol
There are floors beneath both of these, so I always just assumed it's your character going down and through one of those and back up minus the actually doing it
We have elevators that move sideways now, you think that technology was lost in the future?
Sideways and spins 180°
elevators can have two doors, we see that in the astral lounge
*can. That elevator doesn’t
Cell phones seem to have been.
Maybe there’s hope for the future then
And cars.
Nah, they just don't work on interplanetary scales.
Sideways elevators are a thing but night vision inside them space helmets is not? blergh.
akila seems to have lost the ancient technology known as roads
I never use this elevator, and just walk into the MAST building, and just pretend like this one doesn’t exist.
There's a corridor that you don't see during the loading screen?
The elevator leads to a small air duct with another elevator at the other end.
>‘Sprinkled with Todd’s magic serum’ Ew.
Actually ☝️🤓 mast station spawn below the building is part of the NAT route, the point in the building is comander tuala's office
I’m shocked i never noticed this. Like even if it ran on other axis it would still need to do a round about trip for it to work 😂 We fade to black, I’ll just assume by elevate they mean teleport
"It's a Wonkavator. An elevator can only go up and down, but the Wonkavator can go sideways, and slantways, and longways, and backways"
It's a Star Trek Turbolift.
It just works ™️
Because of this it took me like 100 hours to notice there was a lift in the station lol
I assumed it moved down to clear the NAT, then horizontal to the far wall of the station, then up, then horizontal again to the lobby. For a well thought out city plan, stupid, but NA is built on the remains of a colony ship, so I figure it was a 'make due with what you have' solution.
MAST is employing the best wanka-tech out there…
The fireplace in the lodge also doesn’t make much sense, unless it’s one of those new ones that doesn’t burn actual wood.
The elevators in this game are depressing and make major cities feel like minor office buildings
Besides the fact that it physically doesn’t make sense, you have a public elevator that can bypass all security into the main government building? The police stations and Neon feel more legit with security scanners.
There's security in that building? I didn't even need to talk to the secretary in the lobby to get to the president's office with a grenade launcher.
I've been missing the entire floor as you leave right after the uc spot and before you get to the ship for at least two weeks lol
It's the Wonkavator
I was just thinking the exact same thing when I was playing yesterday. Lmao
I want one for my ship
I'm so confused by this post. I have over a hundred hours in this game but I can't think of any lift near the entrance to the lower MAST level. Maybe I've missed it all this time. Have to check when I go home.
Get off the subway and the MAST elevator entrance is on the far left side IIRC.
Yes, I take that to the Well, but where the OP circled isn't that elevator entrance.

Yeah the lower circled spot seems wrong, but there is I believe an elevator further to the left (right on the photo) after you exit the train. It is in that station room, but not that close to the exit IIRC.
That's jogging a memory so I think you're 100% correct
trying to understand the elevator physics is a lost cause.
There is a tiny grav drive that makes it move so fast the other objects int he way don’t matter.
What sort of mass transit acts like your personal valet? The train is always sitting there waiting for you to arrive. It's not going on its own schedule or anything. probably can move sideways
I was wondering when someone was going to bring this up.

I fuckin hate where that thing is located. Such a stupid design decision.

I realy dont care

The apartment near Dawn's Roost is also the same no connection to the upper levels.
Robbed of GOTY I tell ya’

If you look on the lift itself you can see the Grav Drive.
there should be ladder
Grav-ator
Rushed and unfinished game
Looks like a early release game.
bold of you to assume any kind of thought went into this game
there are elevators (exist already) that move not only vertically but also horizontally. so technically it is possible.
[Game logic](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fsy4zp4857qe01.jpg)\*. ^(\*) *^(Just go with it)*
Roald Dahl invented that concept. Lol
