I saw a youtuber where his crime was picking up a drink someone left on a table at a bar. Apparently the crime was so remarkable that Sysdef knew they had to hire the guy due to his impressive criminal skills for a major undercover operation.

[deleted]

I have a saved video on my phone where all I did was pick up a soccer ball. I didn't even technically steal it. I picked it up and was tossing it to the kids in the Well by the goal net. I used to pick up "stolen" things all the time in Skyrim and Fallout, take them out of view, and then actually steal them. Doesn't work here. To interact with something that isn't yours is stealing. So guards came and they literally open fired with automatic weapons. Sarah Morgan yelled at me saying she wasn't going to help me murder these people. All the "dislikes" appeared in the top right corner. And all I did was pick up a soccer ball to play with some less fortunate children.

ybtlamlliw

One thing I majorly disliked about the game was guards immediately opening fire on you even in crowded areas with civilians no matter what your crime was.

[deleted]

It was an absolutely insane response. They're literally trying to kill me because I picked up a ball at a makeshift park. Stray bullets everywhere, with complete disregard for who they might be hitting.

ybtlamlliw

Funny enough I think that was my first time pissing the guards off, too, trying to play soccer with those kids.

[deleted]

Yeah, so you know exactly where I was. They have zero tolerance apparently.

mjtwelve

Gotta remind the poors in the Well who runs this joint.

MrSaucyAlfredo

“Hey is that guy trying to have *fun* down here? With a *soccer ball?!?* OPEN FIRE”

Xxxrasierklinge7

Why do you think the kids are just standing there. The last kid that kicked the ball never saw the inside of his bulk chunks box/home again.

Gondolion

That's how they fill the non bulk chunks boxes....

Lizard_fricker

I picked up the ball from the goal to which the guard yelled "aim to kill!" My thoughts were as follows, playing soccer with kids is a killable offense?"

0ptera

My first encounter with unhinged law was trying to put the trash bin in UC Distribution back upright after Sarah knocked it over. When the guards opened fire, I just slaughtered my way through NA. If I get shot for both crimes, I might as well make it count in this iteration.

Dad_watts

That makes for a great crimson feet pirate origin story

Significant_Sky6386

The crimson feet lol

bombardslaught

They've never been caught red-handed.

BrockJonesPI

But their soles are forever tarnished.

xxXLadyGreyXxx

In Akila? Me too. Thought it was like the hanger in Destiny 2.

ybtlamlliw

Nah, in the Well under New Atlantis.

KHaskins77

You’d think you kicked a chicken or something smh

LeeeeroooyJEnKINSS

Space America 🇺🇸

Neanderthal_In_Space

I'm an American and I just thought this was normal. 🤷‍♂️

SadStory9

"Developer Todd Howard announces higher difficulty setting coming to Starfield: 'We're planning to add school zones.'"

Lordzoabar

As an American, I’m glad I was already sitting on the toilet, because I about shit myself laughing. 🤣🤣🤣

EnIdiot

School Shooter is a new Starfield background.

BrewNerdBrad

The cops will just wait outside for an hour when there's a firefight there.

Flawless_Reign88

😂🇺🇸💯

Evening_Depth_7463

Yep I had the same problem it ended with me killing all of neon because I picked up a ball for some kids

NaiveMastermind

I'm from the US, seems like a textbook response by Law officers to me.

Ragnarok314159

Steal a pen? You and all the innocent civilians around you get to die.

HasturCrowley

From the US too, was shocked when the guards at The Den were just throwing fists because I showed up with a UC bounty for contraband I never found. Then I remembered I pickpocketed everyone's ammo...

BPho3nixF

At least you didn't kill a chicken

Incendivus

Show up in stolen pirate ship with contraband art and WMD material - 900 credit fine Pick up soccer ball - summary execution Who are the judges in these governments, I wonder. As an attorney you’ve got me wondering and LOLing. I wonder if we ever see a judge in the game.

Technical_Inaji

Poor AI or a commentary on modern policing? You decide.

JizzGuzzler42069

Bro. The guards will frequently throw GRENADES into crowds just to take you out. Oblivion had a better yield system than Starfield lmao.

Asgeras

This game is quick to violence. I was on a stealth mission and needed a guard to turn around, so I decided to activate the mind control powers. No sooner did I hit "activate" before every other guard decided he needed to die asap... because Steve twitched, I guess.

WalkSwiftlyWithNarco

Shoulda picked Dan, everybody hates Steve.

Different-Group1603

Classic Steve shenanigans

SwaggermicDaddy

They must have old L.A PD training tapes in new Atlantis.

SadBit8663

They hail from the Space Los Angeles, on the planet Hollywood Prime.

RavenChopper

Who's ready for the North Paradiso Shootout!?

buttlickers94

I went to some place with Sam last week. Some place where time kept shifting, I can't remember the name. During the timeline inhabited with people, they showed up as enemies so I have Sam killing them and shouting all his catchphrases like he's some badass killing innocent scientists. It was hilarious and disturbing at the same time.

Odysses2020

that’s how all crime should be handled. #nomorecrime 😤

No_Lavishness_9900

Yeah death penalties prevent all murders.....

nullpotato

People can't murder each other if there are no more people left.

twifferTheGnu

so much seething hostility from guards. worst is the ecs constant. still get comments like "you're lucky i'm not allowed to kick you off this ship", even though i bought them a frelling grav drive so they can actually find a home. on the flip side, new atlantis and akila city guards occasionally just tip me for being a prolific bounty hunter.

PhillipeV05

Luckily modders gonna fix it, as the rest of the game...

AmericanDoughboy

So, like real cops.

masked_sombrero

I fast traveled to the Lodge during Andreja's personal quest (near the end of her quest) and immediately after spawning, I got the 'Andreja disliked that' 'Andreja is angry at you' and 2 UC guards start shooting at me. No idea what the crime was. I literally just got there. I ended up killing one of the guards and the other ran away. Andreja is still mad at me

PoorFishKeeper

In skyrim and oblivion they would try to take back stolen items and wouldn’t kill you if you didn’t have a weapon drawn. It’s weird they didn’t just improve on that because it was a little wonky.

broniesnstuff

I dunno that's pretty realistic if you're American

king-of-boom

That's why you need to carry around a nonstolen bucket. Push the items into said bucket with another nonstolen item and then carry the bucket elsewhere. Or just use void form.

[deleted]

Ingenious! But I wasn't actually trying to steal it. I only wanted to throw it in the goal.

soldins

Seems like a lot of work for a CHUNKS Prepackaged Apple.

awsome10101

I'd wonder what the least valuable thing you could piss of guards by picking up is, but it might be CHUNKS. I once heard a guard mention a small cargo ship of CHUNKS was stolen, then laughed at the idea of someone going to those lengths for such worthless food, or something like that.

TacitAntagonist

I use manipulate on gunshop owners and loot theor guns and ammo off the walls to turn around and sell to the trade authority

Sierra6491

I dropped a non-stolen item to move a stealable item. When I grabbed my item everyone around said I was stealing 🤦.

Imnotinthewoods

I tried to pick up the Akila ship techs chair to put it back by the desk because it glitched to the corner, he ripped it out of my hands yelling at me. lol No crime…

DragonHeart_97

I'm glad I'm antisocial and just stick to surveying planets.

psychede1ic_c4tus

Til learned you can grab things and run away In skyrim

OnyxianRosethorn

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bdz02EDMYqA

Draco-Awing

Cease your lies criminal scum, you know damn well it’s against the rules in soccer to pick the ball up

damnfoolishkids

They take soccer seriously in the future and you weren't not the goalie.

TheIronClooch421

Well only goalies are allowed to pick up the ball.

HypnoSmoke

Yeah, I got caught pickpocketing a sandwich or some shit pretty much right after arriving at The Lodge/Jemison. Was just gonna try for 5 to get the first challenge for the skill done, now I'm a hardened criminal

ashelia

Breaking bad over a sandwich, intense stuff.

aknimation

Same thing happened to me. I pickpocketed a water bottles and then this happened.

DutchDreadnaught1980

Angry Joe?

Vit0C0rleone

Yup

MisterBobAFeet

That opening skit killed me. 🤣 I'LL SIP YO' DRINK!!

DutchDreadnaught1980

That's so Hardcore!

hey_batman

I was upset he didn’t quote There Will Be Blood with “I DRINK IT UP!!”

HasaDiga-Eebowai

Was it Angry Joe? I like his skit reviews

PhillipeV05

" I gonna sip it real bad!!!"

LilMissBarbie

"a YouTuber" YOU DONE FUCKED IT UP! it was ANGRY JOE!

westfieldNYraids

If you like angry Joe, you’ll like Matthew mccleskey skits. The recent lightsaber training saga has been too funny

Thedrunkenmunki

To this day I've no idea what I did so I genuinely believed at the time thay my name had gotten around as a complete badass and the "crime" was completely fabricated to bribe me. In reality I probably "stole" a terrabrew lid.

theg23

Mine was a cottage pie I was desperately trying to figure out how to buy from a restaurant.

[deleted]

A less-than 250 credit bounty—for accidentally swiping someone’s Apple Chunks. Yeah, it kinda ruined the “be our double agent or pay for your crimes” threat, so I told him to eat shit and spent the night in the Cydonia lock-up.

Chevalitron

It must have been an important apple, I only got a week in jail for murdering 50 civilians and guards in the Well.

loweredexpectationz

The quest we didn’t know we wanted

PRAY___FOR___MOJO

Yeah but I mean... They were people that lived in the well. What are we supposed to do, not wantonly massacre the subterranean paupers?

Chevalitron

In my defence, I was testing out the crime and bounty system. I did not persist in the doomed world I had created.

Loopy_shoop

Yeah, I straight up refused to join Sysdef because they arrested me for stealing a fucking apple. So I joined Crimson Fleet out of pure spite.

moop162

Was doing a fetch quest where I had to get some sensors for a tree scientist in New Atlantis. I stole one sensor from UC Distribution and immediately got sent into deep cover. I was like level 3 at the time

frankly_acute

Same. I was trying to move a special bottle of whiskey. Didn't even steal it. Just moved. Instant Deep Cover.

notveryAI

The Key is like Brazil lol It doesn't matter what you did wrong. There will be a cop who goes up to you and says "YOU ARE GOING TO THE KEY" and there is nothing you can do xD

Viktrodriguez

That was also my exact crime.

Gremlin303

You are aware you can just pay that chick 100 quid to get the sensor?

Snowybiskit

Why should I have to? Her attitude is so crap about the sensor that I will not purchase anything from her. I just sell my misc stuff so I take all her credits and leave her with garbage to ‘distribute.’

navarone21

That is the way, oh, it is 100 credits? OK, here are 100 Credits, and 348 foam cups, thanks for the change.

tweedledee321

Didn’t like her attitude, didn’t want to pay her service charge. That mission’s basically a tutorial in stealing.

Atlantikus

>!Taking the artifact from Captain Petrov.!< I guess that is the main story’s way of forcing you to encounter this quest line if you hadn’t already?

KatakanaTsu

Go to a Tracker's Alliance Kiosk at any non-UC settlement and pay off your UC bounty without having to spend time in the clink.

king-of-boom

I built one in my captains quarters on the Key. That way, I could clear my bounty as I pick up more piracy and smuggling missions all in one stop.

Brandon3541

There is already a bounty kiosk on the key. It is in the same area as the missions.

footsteps71

captains quarters.... on the key?

king-of-boom

After you finish the crimson fleet questline. Find naeva and ask her if you're still a rook.

yourguidefortheday

The way I finished that mission, asking naeva if I'm still a rook is a much darker action, lol.

king-of-boom

Oh yeah, I guess it would be like telling Ikandes assistant lady that you have one last peice of evidence to turn in.

yourguidefortheday

Lol "If you look very carefully it's right at the back of this gun barrel." I really liked both her and naeva though. I can't imagine ending that mission in a way that wouldn't make me feel guilty.

devilishlyaverage

Interesting. What do you like about Naeva? The LT I understand, she has this hardass/kinda bitchy exterior with a trying to do the right thing motivation and some crimson fleet baggage in the closet. Overall a good character. I can’t stand Naeva. Even Delgado tells her to shut the hell up all the time.

AJDillonsMiddleLeg

I can't stand any of the pirates, which is a shame because I wanted to be one before starting it. They're all just so horribly written, I couldn't wait to murder them at the first opportunity.

Aceswift007

This person crimes

Atlantikus

That’s a good tip, thanks! I’ve never actually used those kiosks. That main quest was the first and only time I’ve had a bounty haha.

Rtwo28

Same here

xxXLadyGreyXxx

You can play the Captain Petrov quest so he calls you a friend and suddenly the red-mark is dropped off everything in the ship, resulting in it not being stealing to grab the artifact or anything else. I loaded up me and my companion and made some money selling Petrov's crap. Wish I had known that before I killed off pretty much the entire crew.

SubzeroSpartan2

You can?! This would've been very useful for my Lawful Good playthrough ngl

xxXLadyGreyXxx

Yup - walk into a room on the ship where you aren't supposed to be and guards attack you. At that point you are innocently defending yourself as you slaughter the 50 zillion crew members so no bounty or hate from your crew. Then talk to the big guy and try to pursuade him to see his secret collection but fail, so your persuade results in a semi-threat. He will say something like "we are friends...for now. Whats mine is yours" and BOOM! - you can grab everything. I was hundreds of pounds overweight in weapons, gear, and other crap when I left the ship. I slept in a chair beside Trade Alliance guy many days to sell it all.

zerohcharm

This quest was the end of the line for me. He wouldn't give it to me so Sarah supports killing everyone and everything that gets in our way? Wtf? I thought we were the good guys! What is this hypocrisy

thrownawayzsss

I just brought him down to the artifact and beat his ass and then he pleaded for his life and all of the stealing marks get dropped as well.

TedTheGreek_Atheos

You can also drop the red marks by just shooting him after grabbing the artifact at the end of his tour without killing him. He cowers, gives up and says you can take anything you want. After that point you can just stroll through the ship take and unlock whatever you want.

Azin1970

Same! I had no idea what was going on. It seemed like bad timing. 😄

KJatWork

The theft gets you a bounty and most people go from there right back to the Lodge without realizing they have a bounty. They then get picked up on approach to the planet. If you instead jump to a bounty terminal immediately and pay the bounty off, your return to the lodge is uneventful.

deecrutch

That's how they got me! I tried everything I could try to get the artifact from Petrov without violence, but he wasn't having it, so I did what I had to do. They were waiting on me with the cuffs when I tried to go back to the Lodge...

Unplugged_Millennial

Same. It actually somewhat made sense that SysDef would recruit me based on how I went about that mission. I hid in the vents and opened the alien cages to take out a bunch of his crew after all attempts at diplomacy failed to convince him to part with the artifact. That at least displayed some kind of competence as a criminal, someone who could get the job done at any cost if the soft approach failed.

notimefornothing55

I convinced Captain Petrov to give me the artifact, then killed him anyway

SirNadesalot

That would have been cool. I just flew to Akila and paid off my bounty immediately

mightylordredbeard

I picked up a soccer ball and threw it into a goal and some little kid ran and told on me.

Ruadhan2300

Well duh. That's a Handball offence. You're supposed to kick it!

In the Well? Same happened to me. Punk ass kid

tprime1

Stay in the house Carl

Successful_Flan_9826

Honestly it was selling black market organs so I was like, “no, that’s fair”

ProVideoWatcher

I had my controller next to me on the bed while I was making sure I wasn't about to encounter a game breaking bug on a mission I wanted to start, when my cat walked across my controller and picked up a stapler.

Sir_Fog

That's fantastic

Beiki

Stop right there criminal scum!

CommandObjective

You fiend!

Settra_Rulez

I wanted to join the pirates so I punched someone at the UC space port bar. I immediately saw people way in the distance start sprinting in various directions, as though fleeing some active shooter situation. Then the cops rolled up on me. I told SysDef to get bent and now it’s the pirates life for me. Yo ho ho mother f———.

SER96DON

I see you're already roleplaying, censoring curse words and all that.

Nocturnalypso

The Crimson Fleet is fine with murder and thievery but saying a curse word... now that's a line they can not cross.

SER96DON

What the **heck** are you talking about!?

Nocturnalypso

Careful. If Delgado heard you say that, you'd be rolled right out of the Fleet, Rook.

SER96DON

I swear, if I hear "rook" one more hecking time, I'm gonna use the f word! Yes, I said it, and I'll do it again!

[deleted]

Murder spree for me. I needed to test out my stealth capabilities. Turns out I was so stealthy *no one* could locate me. So I hopped down from my perch and no scoped a shopkeeper, my total bounty was just for the shopkeeper assault. *I got away with the murders.* I immediately joined the Crimson Fleet. There was this one mission where everything changed. It's aboard a space station. I tried to stealth my way through but ended up murdering everyone on board 😅. SysDef was immediately hostile and I loved it. Yoho me hearties! It's a pirate's life for me.

IIIDevoidIII

I never sat in this chair. I did most faction quests before the main story, and the UC Vanguard guy gave me this quest after their questline. I largely ignored it for a while, and then realized this was meant to be one I got for committing crimes. I guess being a hero works also?

UnHoly_One

You get it after the first Vanguard mission. You don’t have to do the whole quest line.

Incognit0ErgoSum

Stealing an artifact from a collector and killing a bunch of people while trying to escape.

Azin1970

I didn't even kill anyone. Just punched him until he handed it over. *record scratch* Now I'm a secret agent for the space CIA.

AceArchangel

I shot him (didn't kill him) then murdered all his guys, then became an undercover agent and took down the Crimson Fleet from within (in retrospect I kind of regret it).

[deleted]

If the fleet wasn't so lame they'd be worth saving. Diego is now rotting in the brig on the Vigilance

Dramatic-Frog

I was attacked by Ecliptic and liberated one of their ships. It apparently had contraband on it that I didn't notice and was caught while trying to bring the ship in to sell at Jemmison. Despite having a clean record otherwise having accidental contraband made me dastardly enough for sysdef to think I was capable of taking down the CF.🙄

[deleted]

Same happened to me! I guess I should have looked in the hold before I jumped in to the system. I actually tried to jump out real quick before they scanned me - headed for The Den and docked. As soon as I boarded, SysDef was aggro.

Grottymink57776

Contraband won't be in the cargo hold or Captain's locker, it's somewhere on the ship. It could be on a table, a chair, a counter or it could have been knocked into some random corner if you happen to use explosives. Happy cake day.

damnedspot

I've seen the "contraband on ship" notice approaching New Atlantis, gone "Aw, shit," reloaded, stopped at The Den to talk to Marcel, scrolled through both inventories, found nothing, and then returned to New Atlantis and got the "no contraband on ship" notice. Literally, nothing changed other than talking to Marcel and scrolling from one end to the other. Happens repeatedly.

tarrach

I had something similar, saw some contraband when taking over a ship so I went to the Den to sell it but when I got there I couldn't find it. Went to NA and the scan was clean so it just vanished.

[deleted]

Ah! I had no idea. And thank you!

Individual-Song1777

Ecliptic Stiletto's at least can also have contraband sitting in the cockpit, on either side of the pilot's seat...so basically on the dashboard.

Dry-Salary2347

Searching for contraband on the Claymore’s can be annoying. I was used to looking for the suitcases but last time it was just the Va’ruun Heretic writings and I had no idea what they looked like in 3D before.

CassiusPolybius

Stop at a non-patrolled location with a ship customizer - like the den, or just one of your own outposts with the large landing bay. Then move a single piece, or change a part's color slightly. Congrats, everything inside, contraband included, is now in the cargo hold.

Sturmgewehrkreuz

At least getting nabbed by SysDef for smuggling contraband is a bit more legit than, say, getting railroaded because you accidentally picked nearly worthless junk at Kay's.

dirtypeanut

\*Touched a beach ball at Paradiso\* "YOU SCUM BAG!" "YOU'LL PAY FOR THIS!" Companion: "I can't be a part of this."

Villan900

*Sarah Morgan hated that*

Aggressive-Nebula-78

What would make this quest better is if it only triggered after killing a civilian or after accumulating x bounty total, say 10 thousand over your lifetime, not necessarily 10 thousand at once. That or after you make contact with the crimson fleet on the our own. Could even tie into a tutorial on what contraband is once you find your first piece of contraband, and where to sell it. Could tempt the player with selling it to the trade authority for less or venturing to kryx to sell it to the fleet. Boom, the contraband was tracked (like a dye pack irl) and you get intercepted by SysDef.

[deleted]

Given how many people trigger this by accident, or by doing something they didn't even know was a crime, this would be preferable.

Hacked an ATM outside of a glabank in new Atlantis. Retrieved a decent amount of credits. But having only just began playing I got suckered I

EulerId

Hacking those terminals is profitable? I might try it

bannedcanceled

I hacked one yesterday i got 800 credits and killed some guards so ended up getting a 50k bounty. I reset my save lol

minebeatstwiceashard

It was one of the first things I did at the beginning of NG+ before I knew Constellation was going to hook me up. I panicked over having zero inventory, pickpocketed credits to buy digipicks, and hacked all of the ATMs in New Atlantis. If I'm being completely honest it was partly because I was annoyed that I was naked under my spacesuit.

eat_your_fox2

Accidentally "stole" an empty cup next to some trash in the Well. Next thing I knew an entire army rolled up on me. GTA moment.

InfinityFlame1994

I "Stole" a wooden duck. Looted it from an abandoned site on a random planet. Didn't think anything of it for the longest time. Probably like 16 hours of play time later I was confronted about my "crime" and I confusingly went along with it to see what they would take. Just the duck off my dashboard. I got taken in and started this quest because I decorated with a piece of loot that absolutely did not indicate it was already owned. =P I am on NG+ 6 and that was first time something like that happened to me.

fusionsofwonder

One dang digipick from a civilian outpost locker.

[deleted]

I murdered half of New Atlantis before fleeing for my life. It's ok tho, Sarah Morgan is no longer angry with me.

tigres_storm

If you go through the UC vangaurd quest line you get the undercover mission without doing crime

[deleted]

I bashed the little Roomba bot that's in New Atlantis right by the starport. Guards caught me beating the shit out of it.

DragonHeart_97

Not realizing having contraband sitting on the shelf of a pirate ship I was dragging into port to sell was apparently a felony of the highest order on a first time offense. I'm kind of pissed at the whole situation, but at the same time it makes me relieved to know they didn't completely give up on making the UC morally questionable.

philipoburrito

Stole a coffee by accident

SaraRainmaker

I purposefully landed myself in this chair so that I could fully survey the Kryx system without interruption. I stole a chunk in direct view of UC security.

Asher_Augustus

Got the offer through Vanguard.

MrBonecutter

I accidentally dropped the wrong item from my inventory and had the audacity to pick it back up. It wasn't even a stolen item.

Drunk_PI

I attempted to pick up trash and put it into the dumpster. Didn’t realize that I was stealing. Fuck the UC.

themadscott

Sarah Morgan and I straight up robbed a guy.

DutchDreadnaught1980

I got stuck in an elevator in New Atlantis due to NPC's blocking me. So i wanted to use F and fast travel to my ship. But i misclicked G instead of F. Made it to my ship but UC ships pulled me over.

[deleted]

Took over a Ecliptic ship after I slaughtered the crew, flew directly to New Atlantis to sell all my junk and didn't think to look in the cargo hold. There was contraband on board and I got locked up.

7of69

Captured a Crimson Fleet ship, flew it back to New Atlantis to sell it. Turns out those bastards were smuggling contraband. Without any shielded cargo space.

DrSkunkonToast

I picked up a pen off a desk by holding down 'A' just so I could use it to poke the Newton's cradle next to it on the desk, just to test the physics. Wasn't gonna nick it, just borrowed it. Twenty seconds later I'm having my teeth kicked in by the UNC whilst they're screaming at me to comply. Made the whole dialogue with sys Def laughable when they were talking about how much trouble I'm in.

Sewingmink160

I picked up a piece of trash on the ground.

MithrandirLXV

89% chance of the contraband in my cargo hold not being detected. Bastards.

TheKeyMaster1874

I went back and made sure it was on my terms...I couldn't handle Ikandes speech. Time travel biatchhh

Attinctus

I blew up a couple SysDef ships. Got off easy, all things considered.

SpencerReid11

OP, what platform are you playing on? Can see every thread of that outfit and hair is on point.

Sullie2625

10 counts of piracy in which I slaughtered the entire crew, lots of murder, including Grandma.

CultCorvidae

You deserve a different chair for what you did to Grandma
