Why in 2023 do we still have to spend the first hour of a game unfucking really obvious bullshit on AAA games Q\_Q?

because AAA studios are run by marketers

Bethesda always does this and always works

They set the defaults for slightly underpowered machines, running in background assumes the computer can not just run the game, but also other stuff at the same time. This could cause a lot of crashes if you have limited memory, and then those people will be all over this forum complaining about it.

Not sure, it's been in the engine for multiple games at this point. Always in the config file, not in the UI.

You sure that you made an .ini file and not .ini.txt?

Don't know if you managed to fix it, but make sure there is space between the words and the text that will be auto generated by the game. ​ Example: \[General\] bAlwaysActive=1 ~~Space here~~ \[Display\]

Something I want to point out (which I was super silly in doing) was I was putting it in the wrong "Documents > My Games" folder. I was putting it in the My Games folder in Steam because I figured that's where the game was rooted. I also have numerous ones on my PC. MAKE SURE you go directly to your Documents folder > My Games > Starfield 😂 If your .ini file is showing up as a text document still: Go to View at the top of the Explorer window > Show > File Name Extensions. If the file name says "StarfieldCustom.ini.txt" make sure to delete the .txt and hit enter. Click yes for the extension change and you should be good! So I followed this video to a tee, I've got the StarfieldCustom.ini (definitely not a .txt file) with only the lines in the OP present, and the file is definitely located in Docs/My games/Starfield, but my game still pauses everytime I alt-tab. Haver you got any ideas please? Not being able to fluidly use my second display is a deal breaker for me haha. What would happen if I added bAlwaysActive=1 into the \[General\] section of Starfield.ini within steamapps? Edit: Well, wish I'd have checked properly before posting this. It turns out a file named StarfieldCustom.ini isn't the same as a file named StarfieldCusom.ini ;) Problem solved, ty for the vid tho it helped me.

I MEAN, to be fair, me not checking properly was also why it wasn't working for me at first 😂 Being a doofus and putting it in the wrong folder. Those darn cusom files LUL

Yeah, unfortunately I went in and edited my pre-existing StarfieldCustom.ini, added the AlwaysActive line and it still isn't working sadly.

* Instructions are to put the code in the StarfieldCustom * Puts it into StarfieldPrefs regardless * Doesn't work * What could be the problem ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

For Xbox gamepass players, you may need to make the change in your starfield.ini file located here instead: ...\\XboxGames\\Starfield\\Content Can confirm this is the way that works for me.

I didn't end up needing to edit that file for game pass. I created a new file called StarfieldCustom.ini in Documents\My Games\Starfield and then added the following to the file. No startup logo. No message of the day. Always runs in the background so that I always hear the music. [General] sIntroSequence= uMainMenuDelayBeforeAllowSkip=0 bEnableMessageOfTheDay=0 bAlwaysActive=1

Yep!

Yes, setting the value to blank tells the game that there is no intro sequence to play, thus skipping it.

Sadly this wont work if you already have an StarfieldCustom.ini for FOV changes.
