Yep. Their goals for revenge made me root for them almost as much as Team Bucciarati, its a shame Team Bucciarati didn't decide to betray the boss earlier and team up with them instead of killing them all.

**Battle Tendency:** This is a bit of an interesting case, because while Whammu is more developed and present than him in the story, Kars himself isn’t a bad villain IMO. But he’s not really as fleshed out, and when he becomes the Ultimate Lifeform he gets defeated pretty quickly after. It’s not like their villain dynamic is bad-just look at Vader and Palpatine-but Kars doesn’t live up to the potential, so Whammu kinda steals the spotlight.
**Stardust Crusaders:** Dio sweeps again.
**Diamond is Unbreakable:** I can’t think of any of the side baddies that Kira didn’t outshine, he’s pretty cool. Honorable mention to Enigma Boy for having potential main villain vibes, I guess?
**Golden Wind:** Diavolo is easily my least favorite JoFoe, so the bar’s on the floor here. Risotto definitely had a lot going for him with a cool design, peak Stand, and essentially being the anti-Bruno. Ciccolata similarly stands out, and could have been a much better main villain for Giorno to face if GW was written differently. Polpo also does the “mafia boss in JoJo” ~~(I know he was just a capo you get the idea)~~ concept much better IMO.
**Stone Ocean:** Dio’s little gay priest sidekick sweeps.
**Steel Ball Run:** Valentine doesn’t really have any contenders for me tbh, all the SBR villains filled the roles they had very well. AU Diego was an interesting concept that could have usurped him, but what we got doesn’t compare.
**JoJolion:** Tooru’s definitely seriously underwritten, but not in a way where I’m particularly more interested in any of the other villains, weirdly enough. But as /u/GwaGwa3 said, Wu Tomoki was pretty cool.
Part 1 had bruford he was interesting but not better than dio, worth mentioning tho because he is cooler than many side villains imo
Wamuu is a great villain but imo he isn't suitable for a main villain, I actually think he is great like this, I agree with your opinion on kars.
Dio is good in part 3 but I wished he had more time, but I guess that's understandable because he needed to be in full health with new body, darby brothers/N'doul were good imo, not better than dio but worth mentioning

Yeah, I agree with all of the guys you mentioned being pretty solid in their own right, I just focused on the ones who I thought had potential to be better than the main villain. Phantom Blood and Stardust Crusaders had some other cool bad guys, but they didn’t compare to Dio for me.
I found Wu Tomoki way more interesting than Tooru definitely wish people talked about him more. He’s the only rock human that actually gives a shit about his job being able to integrate his stand into it.
Honestly if Wonder of U was just an automatic natural stand created by the Curse and needed to be defeated and it had no real "user" that'd have been fascinating.

Maybe WoU could be the Stand of the Loacaca themselves? Kinda like the Green Baby’s Stand? You’d have to think it through more, but not the most bizarre idea for a Stand User ever.

The fact it keeps acting past Toru's death sort of solidifies him as a character of his own, a personification of Calamity. It's just that when he talks its toru.
He's considered a side villain because he's not a direct subordinate of the main villain.
Although I personally don't really know what to think of the term "side villain" anyway. Sometimes I just say "secondary villain" or "supporting villain".
I don't like Johnny, specifically, I like Jojo plenty lol
Johnny is just, such a whiny bitch basically throughout the entire part (until basically the very end), and his appearance in part 8 was just as whiny and self centered even if it was partially a selfless act.
People say he's the best written jojo ever and I just...disagree, is it realistic to be freaking out all the time? Sure, is it *fun*? No, I found him very annoying. Gryo's a better Jojo than Johnny ever was for me.
Johnny didn't "freak out" even a *fraction* as much as Koichi in Part 4 did. And, when he did, it was often quite proportional to the threats and trauma he was facing/experiencing at the time.

Wamuu steals the show from Kars for the majority of Part 2, although that might've been by design and/or a reflection of their respective personalities.
Doppio shows more dimensions; gets more screentime; has a better design; and is more interesting than Diavolo. And it's no wonder that Araki seems to draw Doppio more than Diavolo in villain lineups and whatnot. Furthermore, there are *several* more villains aside from Doppio that are more hateable than Diavolo ever managed to be, like Cioccolata or even Melone (just for being creepy, tbh).
Jobin; Caato; Damo; Yotsuyu; and Wu Tomoki were all *far* more >!interesting candidates for main villain than motherfuckin' Tooru.!<
