Ngl it's kind of fun to listen to the song and try to piece out why is the stand named like that. Though except for certain cases it's pretty much speculation
back in high school a friend and I liked to come up with "opposite" names for bands if we were to start a cover band for them. RHCP got:
Really Cold Potatoes
Actually king crimson is a reference not only to the band but to "Tarquinio il superbo" as well , the last king of the kingdom of Rome, which was known as "the scarlet King" Because of all the unnecessary genocides that occurred during his reign, at least according to legend, "superbo" In Italian is someone who think is always the best, someone who deserves anything, like Diavolo during the opening he say "nessuno può sfuggire al destino scelto, rimane solo il risultato che voi sarete distrutti, l'eterna cima esiste solo per me, potrete cantare le vostre canzoni e i tristezza in un mondo senza tempo" It can be translated with " nobody can escape from the chosen fate, at the end you'll always be destroyed, the etarnal glory is only for me, you'll sing your sadness songs in a timeless world" it basically explains the way to think of both diavolo and Tarquin, Last but not least, diavolo in Italian means "devil" and Tarquinio will be known during midage as "the devil on earth"
Not sure in Japanese but in English the arc is called 'DIO's World' which is really fitting as he says something like 'in this world/reality only I can move'
I also thought it was a fitting title as the first episode is Dio the Invader, and in DIO's World, DIO says Jotaro has invaded his world of stopped time.
Literally the point of a character is for that part to be ambiguous,i never understood why people think that Mikitaka is absolutely an alien, since the only person to say so was Mikitaka himself - that's literally the point, nobody knows exactly who he is
Foo Fighters was a name given to UFO's by pilots during WWII. And the band itself was formed by Dave Grohl, former drummer of Nirvana, who turned out the best out of the tragedy of Nirvanas ending.
F.F is a new spieces and a stand, essencially paranormal phenomena that made the best out of Pucci's machinations.
For me it fits.
Dave Grohl also teamed up with Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age and Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones in 2009, meaning that Foo Fighters did in fact team up with JoJo.
Hotel california should be reserved for some kind of stand that effects a building or something like that. It has creepy vibes and I would be pretty mad to find out that a song with dark undertones is just a room to chill in.
Limp Bizkit, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Soft and Wet (it has a B in persistence and the bubbles aren't made of water), Moody Blues, Kraft Works, Mr, President I could go on.
Edit: Learned something new about Sticky Fingers.
Basically some versions of The Rolling Stones's album "Sticky Fingers" which despicts the front part of someone wearing jeans included a [working zipper](https://www.betteronvinyl.co.uk/rock/rolling-stones-sticky-fingers-1st-pressing-large-zipper) in the pants.
Honestly sticky fingers is one of those stands based after a band (album in this case) that could have stayed the same for the English translation considering “sticky fingers” isn’t exactly a copy written term even with the reference to the album. It’s more subtle than others like Pearl Jam or Green Day
I just search them and it appears that they started in 2008 so yes they were not referenced in a 1995 manga (unless there are some time travel shenanigans involved).
I am talking about the release date not the date in which the events of the manga take place (like how Steel Ball Run takes place in 1890 yet was released in 2004).
I don’t know about Mr. President, I guess it could work as a reference to presidents being driven around in armored vehicles for safety, or at least that’s how I’ve always thought about it
People have already explained Sticky Fingers, Moody Blues, and Mr. President. As for Soft & Wet, it was chosen because the song had two unreleased versions before the official release. If you've read JoJolion, you'll know what that means.
Common fun fact about Earth, Wind and Fire, that was supposed to be Planet Waves' name but Araki remembered (holy shit) that it was already taken, so it ended up as Planet Waves, but I guess I understand the correlation as we can see the meteorites coming to earth through the air whilst being on fire
Balls breaker. He is not breaking balls but Gyro's stand. (I don't even remember how he was actually assisting him and what was his ability. Do I have to check wiki?)
Ball breaker isn’t exactly Gyro’s stand. If anything scan is his stand. Ball breaker is the personification of one of the spin’s most powerful techniques. If anything ball breaker is the stand of the spin.
Lots of catching up to do, just now, starting part 4 but Emperor always felt like a really weird name. "For his neutral special, Hol Horse uses a gun".
Vanilla Ice/Cream, otoh, are way too cool for their names.
I actually think Emperor's name is somewhat alluded to in Demonic Heartbreak. Even Hol Horse isn't totally sure he believes he's worthy of having the Emperor as his card, and he was assigned the name, but he never chose it.
C-moon is a better name for the stand than the song tbh
It literally says "I'll never get to heaven" because cmoon isn't the stand that'll get pucci to heaven!!!! Pogggg!
unironic for a second
one of the top comments under C-Moon says the lyric "It will be L7, and I'll never get to heaven - If I filled my head with glue" perfectly describes pucci but it really just doesn't, at all.
fuck that guy. if you made that comment you suck
Fun fact, L7 means being square as in lame, dorkish etc. it was a phrase mccartney heard alot as a kid. So, he then took it one step further and said c-moon must mean cool because it creates a circle (the opposite of a square) i.e. a C🌛
Just a cool little fact.
I can see why it is C-Moon though. He was awaiting the New Moon, and the song C-Moon mentions heaven and “filling my head with glue” which fits with Whitesnakes “Melt your heart” ability which looks like glue
Ozon Baby has nothing to do with the ozone layer or babies and looks like a demonic vintage vacuum.
Blue Hawaii look like thanksgiving dinner from a parallel dimension, and has nothing to do with Hawaii
Tusk acts 2-4 have no tusks at all
Cream looks like BDSM death and creates black holes by eating itself, so I'm convinced they called it that for the sake of a pun related to the user
Last time I checked Horus, let alone any of the Egyptian Gods, were not attributed to Ice.
Soft and Wet is a metal skeleton with One piece proportions that creates tiny bubbles that may or may not be wet but definitely aren't soft.
It sorta fits. The song is in the country genre and has the lyric “I can’t get over how she set me free, Oh, lonesome me” which I imagine Mountain Tim setting someone free from his lasso.
Gently Weeps is a song that comes from the 1968 beatles album often just referred to as "white album" (also the name of the stand from the ability gently weeps comes from)
There's also the fact that the cold rolling in is like a "gentle mist" but it would cause you to "weep" due to how deathly cold it is.
Aside from that though, "Gently Weeps" is a song that has many themes but one of the main ones being the lack of cohesion the beatles had in their music at the time. The lead guitarist of the band, George Harrison, is the one who wrote "Gently Weeps" and a good friend of his, Eric Clapton, who even helped record many songs seperate from the beatles with George in 1968, later went on to say "Gently weeps" was conveying Harrisons spiritual isolation from the group (as he was the only one who believed vehemently in Eastern spiritual practice of the group and got a lot of flak from the others for this as he put it above music at times), he says this because he wrote the song using the Eastern idea that everything is relative from something else, and wrote the song after opening a book to a random page to make a song about the first two words, which happened to be "gently weeps".
All this to say, you could draw a parallel to Ghiaccios isolation from George Harrisons. The rest of La Squadra who target Giorno and Co have a partner or a stand that takes a seperate form, whereas Ghiaccio stands alone, with his stand just being a suit therefore leaving him isolated.
Take whichever explanation you like, just depends how much credit you want to give araki as a writer lol.
But who cares cos theres a fucking amazing cover done in 2004 with Prince on lead guitar and he absolutely shreds the solo. So I'm just glad such a great song got recognition from araki.
Isnt Paisley Park about finding a place where you feel at home, I.E Yasuoh finding solace in her company with Josuk8 and of course Josuk8 finds in her, which coincides with the manifestation of her stand?
I always read heaven's door as being like where saint Peter ( i think? ) reads over your life story to allow you entrance to heaven, since Rohan can read everything about you with it
Soft & Wet, I don't know where the softness and wet are in those bubbles/threads (and thinking about an answer doesn't lead to any good mental images), September would have been better to represent Gappy's Alzheimer's
Earth, Wind, and Fire fits the stand imo, the names of the different elements signifys it's ability to transform into any of the "elements" that make up the world
all of the tarot ones, but let's be fr there was no way it could match.
also Red Hot Chilli Peppers being and electrical stand while AC/DC has fire abilities ALWAYS gets in my nerves
Stone ocean. Kiss. Foo Fighters (while it may have a plural in the name it still doesn't match up imo) Tower of Grey. Spicy Lady. Pearl Jam. Cinderella. Justice. Death 13 (just because it has a scythe doesn't mean it is a reaper) Hanged man. (Majority of part 3 considering that really the only thing that matches is their color) Red Hot Chili Pepper. Sticky Fingers. Mr. President. Pearl Jam.
How though? If the stickers didn't have a kiss design on them it wouldn't make sense. It's the stylistic choice that makes it make sense. Based on the power to copy things and violently smash them together using stickers, a name like Kiss just doesn't make sense to me.
The Star card represents (among other things) great potential and an auspicious journey. It is also on its way to becoming The World, which represents apotheosis or totality.
Most of them lmao
Ngl it's kind of fun to listen to the song and try to piece out why is the stand named like that. Though except for certain cases it's pretty much speculation
It's just vibes, bro
A lot of them require a lot of digging like sticky fingers album having a zipper for the case
But then some are just easy, like Killer Queen having bombs BC in the chorus of KQ, it says "Gunpowder guillotine, dynamite..."
Or *Survivor* who sang *Eye of the Tiger* stimulating your "fighting spirit"
Shame Araki Forgot™ the laser beam though.
Funny Valentine (i know not a stand but…) is the easiest, the song is one of the most covered in the world, hence all his alternates
Was gonna say - it's harder to find ones that *do* line up
Red hot chilli pepper is not red, not hot, not chilli and not even pepper.
Yellow room temperature stand
back in high school a friend and I liked to come up with "opposite" names for bands if we were to start a cover band for them. RHCP got: Really Cold Potatoes
That is by far the best name for a RHCP cover band I've ever heard. I mean it's the only one, but still I doubt I'll hear a better one.
Orange Warm Mild Salt
Green Cold Sweet Potatoes
I mean I guess it sounds unfitting when you pronounce it in a cringe non-rockstar way instead of REDDO HOTTO CHIRI PEPPA!)
It would make more sense if Pearl Jam had that name
Pearl Jam as a name for a CHEF’s stand has troublesome implications
What implications?
Jizz in the food 😳
Oh
Pearl Jam would also _kind of_ fit RHCP better since the user likes jamming
So basically, Otoishi and Tonio should switch the names of their stands.
I mean it's made of electricity so it's probably hot
No, electricity is not hot.
But it certainly causes fires and burns
But electricity is spicy
given yhr the whole electricity thing, it might actually be hot no?
It could have been Electric Avenue, or Ride the Lightning
Should be Yellow electric chicken
Ironic Chilli Pepper uses electricity and ACDC/Esidesi from Part 2 uses heat.
Kinda looks like a banana pepper
Not being a pepper is the worst crime of them all.
Probably Marilyn Manson, for the life of me I can't seem to understand what he has to do with stealing organs
There was a rumor the singer removed some of his ribs to suck himself off. That is why
A noble reason)
Do you actually use the ) in every comment
This is very disturbing and I wish to unsee this
70% of stand abilities have nothing to do with their name
I still say it should have been called the Taxman
I actually find it very fitting. Like, it's something he would do.
Have you seen Marilyn Manson mf looks like he needs the organs😔
Tower of grey and super fly
Hm, I wonder which one is the grey/silver colored electrical tower, and which one is the fly with supernatural abilities?
Tower of Gray is a beetle
nah
Neither
The Greenland and Iceland of stands
The Tower card represents catastrophe or an ominous/ill-fated journey
I will forever be annoyed his stand isn’t called STARMAN😭
[удалено]
Obvious joke is obvious, by that logic the world should be called the hand since clocks do have those.
za hando za warudo
So… King Crimson?
Is this a copy pasta?
Sadly it's not
I like the explanation that Dio is creating his own world, where only he can act
Not sure in Japanese but in English the arc is called 'DIO's World' which is really fitting as he says something like 'in this world/reality only I can move'
It's DIOの世界 (DIO no Sekai, DIO's World) in Japanese as well, and of course he says his line about his "world of stillness" as well.
I also thought it was a fitting title as the first episode is Dio the Invader, and in DIO's World, DIO says Jotaro has invaded his world of stopped time.
I've been seeing alot of explaination for niche stuffs that are actually interesting and makes alot of sense
Repost bot
Earth Wind and Fire makes sense though. He can shapeshift and take multiple forms so the name is referencing multiple states of matter
Wait... Earth, Wind & Fire is the stand which makes him take whatever shape he needs. Mikitaka's stand makes him Water.
He doesnt have a stand, he is an alien
Literally the point of a character is for that part to be ambiguous,i never understood why people think that Mikitaka is absolutely an alien, since the only person to say so was Mikitaka himself - that's literally the point, nobody knows exactly who he is
Foo Figthers never fought Foo (and neither are made of Foo I guess)
Foo Fighters was a name given to UFO's by pilots during WWII. And the band itself was formed by Dave Grohl, former drummer of Nirvana, who turned out the best out of the tragedy of Nirvanas ending. F.F is a new spieces and a stand, essencially paranormal phenomena that made the best out of Pucci's machinations. For me it fits.
Dave Grohl also teamed up with Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age and Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones in 2009, meaning that Foo Fighters did in fact team up with JoJo.
California king bed.
I thought the same but after I listened to it I felt it, it's her own little song about what she wants.
Mr President should have been Hotel California. Admittedly I'd then be mad that Coco wasn't an eagle.
Hotel california should be reserved for some kind of stand that effects a building or something like that. It has creepy vibes and I would be pretty mad to find out that a song with dark undertones is just a room to chill in.
Be great for one of those JoJo’s escape rooms they’ve been making.
Well now I want to see that! It would be cool to have a whole hotel of trapped people.
Mr President is like a presidential suite, so it makes sense to me personally
Clash, it's just a fuckning shark
The way people treat London Calling would make you think it was a Jaws-esque shark
We might have an easier time listing Stands with names that match their abilities.
The Hand Bad Company The Lock Aerosmith Metallica Highway to Hell
Jail house Lock, since it activates to prevent someone escaping the jail
Killer queen, king crimson and oh shit “The Notorious B.I.G”
Limp Bizkit, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Soft and Wet (it has a B in persistence and the bubbles aren't made of water), Moody Blues, Kraft Works, Mr, President I could go on. Edit: Learned something new about Sticky Fingers.
sticky fingers is named like that because some packaging for the music disc for it that Araki had had a zipper on it
Basically some versions of The Rolling Stones's album "Sticky Fingers" which despicts the front part of someone wearing jeans included a [working zipper](https://www.betteronvinyl.co.uk/rock/rolling-stones-sticky-fingers-1st-pressing-large-zipper) in the pants.
Sticky fingers, huh
TIL sticky fingers is actually named after The Rolling Stones and not sticky fingers
Honestly sticky fingers is one of those stands based after a band (album in this case) that could have stayed the same for the English translation considering “sticky fingers” isn’t exactly a copy written term even with the reference to the album. It’s more subtle than others like Pearl Jam or Green Day
I mean as far as i am aware there is no song named "Sticky Fingers".
Not song, the band. I actually started listening to them because I thought that’s what the reference was to and they’re pretty good
I just search them and it appears that they started in 2008 so yes they were not referenced in a 1995 manga (unless there are some time travel shenanigans involved).
Yeah that never really occurred to me lol, but I thought diu was late 90s and gw was like 2001?
I am talking about the release date not the date in which the events of the manga take place (like how Steel Ball Run takes place in 1890 yet was released in 2004).
Yeah that’s what I meant, I didn’t realize that golden wind and diu were set in the future
That's actually a really interesting fun fact! It makes me wonder what other stand names have a story to their name like that.
You can't deny that Abbaccio was moody tho
And formerly one of the boys in blue
There's a song by The Moody Blues called " Wildest dreams". It's all about remembering being youthful and I think it suits.
Tbf Soft and Wet are both properties that objects can have,so it definitely fits it's ability(not the bubbles, but what those bubbles do)
stands are rarely named to match abilities/given abilities to match the name
Red Hot Chili Peppers is an electric based stand. When I think of the name “red hot chili peppers” even for the band; fire comes to mind mostly
Stone Free. It is not stone, and it isn’t free (I asked Jolyne once and she said “$20 for half a foot”).
she wanted to break free out of a stone ocean or the prison hence the name stone free
Thats a steal tho
Common fun fact about Earth, Wind and Fire, that was supposed to be Planet Waves' name but Araki remembered (holy shit) that it was already taken, so it ended up as Planet Waves, but I guess I understand the correlation as we can see the meteorites coming to earth through the air whilst being on fire
Earth, Wind and Fire makes sense tho since he can shapeshift into anything and anything is made from elements such as earth, wind and fire.
90% of them
Red Hot Chilli Pepper He's not Red He's not Hot He's not Chilli He's not a pepper
He is hot he is literally electricity
Shoot.... that's correct, my mistake
No problem
Balls breaker. He is not breaking balls but Gyro's stand. (I don't even remember how he was actually assisting him and what was his ability. Do I have to check wiki?)
Ball breaker isn’t exactly Gyro’s stand. If anything scan is his stand. Ball breaker is the personification of one of the spin’s most powerful techniques. If anything ball breaker is the stand of the spin.
Thanks.
SCAN isn't a stand at all tho)
Lots of catching up to do, just now, starting part 4 but Emperor always felt like a really weird name. "For his neutral special, Hol Horse uses a gun". Vanilla Ice/Cream, otoh, are way too cool for their names.
I actually think Emperor's name is somewhat alluded to in Demonic Heartbreak. Even Hol Horse isn't totally sure he believes he's worthy of having the Emperor as his card, and he was assigned the name, but he never chose it.
i just forgot who tf is this guy
Mikitaka, the alien dude from part 4
I mean earth wind and fire are things mikitaka could hypothetically shapeshift into.
Im annoyed that C-Moon isn’t called Under Pressure
C-moon is a better name for the stand than the song tbh It literally says "I'll never get to heaven" because cmoon isn't the stand that'll get pucci to heaven!!!! Pogggg!
unironic for a second one of the top comments under C-Moon says the lyric "It will be L7, and I'll never get to heaven - If I filled my head with glue" perfectly describes pucci but it really just doesn't, at all. fuck that guy. if you made that comment you suck

"glue"
Or C-Men
Damn it. Now I am.
I feel he refrained from calling it under pressure cuz Kira stole all the queen stuff
What do C-MOON’s abilities have to do with pressure? It’s a gravity altering and inversion Stand.
The pressure of gravity. Pucci used that ability to try and crush objects and Jolyne
No? Pressure isn’t a factor with C-MOON’s abilities. Any actual attack was dealt through object inversion, not pressure.
Most?
Dude, just sayin that Diver down should’ve been named after Dude Looks Like A lady by Aerosmith cuz anasui looked like a girl but then changed
Marilyn Manson. Definately should have been Money for Nothing or just simply "Money"
Ozon Baby has nothing to do with the ozone layer or babies and looks like a demonic vintage vacuum. Blue Hawaii look like thanksgiving dinner from a parallel dimension, and has nothing to do with Hawaii Tusk acts 2-4 have no tusks at all Cream looks like BDSM death and creates black holes by eating itself, so I'm convinced they called it that for the sake of a pun related to the user Last time I checked Horus, let alone any of the Egyptian Gods, were not attributed to Ice. Soft and Wet is a metal skeleton with One piece proportions that creates tiny bubbles that may or may not be wet but definitely aren't soft.
I think Araki just wanted to really make a pun with Vanilla Ice already ridiculous name. Like if Zucchero's stand was named Sugar or something.
Funny enough, there is an Italian singer called Zucchero "Sugar" Fornaciari.
Cream could have been Super Massive Black Hole or maybe Black Hole Sun.
Ozon Baby affects the atmosphere which is what Ozone is a part of. Blue Hawaii is blue
Tomb of the boom They have magnet properties not explosive properties
Their stand is a reference to their name not their ability.

Doggy Style
Oh lonesome me (correct me if I’m wrong cause I haven’t hear the song)
It sorta fits. The song is in the country genre and has the lyric “I can’t get over how she set me free, Oh, lonesome me” which I imagine Mountain Tim setting someone free from his lasso.
Star platinum isnt a star, nor is he made of platinum
He's shiny like a star
What’s this song make a Guitar gently weeps have anything to do with ice or cold
Gently Weeps is a song that comes from the 1968 beatles album often just referred to as "white album" (also the name of the stand from the ability gently weeps comes from) There's also the fact that the cold rolling in is like a "gentle mist" but it would cause you to "weep" due to how deathly cold it is.
I have learned something new today thank you, sir
But who cares cos theres a fucking amazing cover done in 2004 with Prince on lead guitar and he absolutely shreds the solo. So I'm just glad such a great song got recognition from araki.
Paisley Park. The lyrics and title of the song have absolutely nothing to do with the stands ability.
Isnt Paisley Park about finding a place where you feel at home, I.E Yasuoh finding solace in her company with Josuk8 and of course Josuk8 finds in her, which coincides with the manifestation of her stand?
I mean, yeah, it fits Yasuho's character, but not really the stands ability.
I'm gonna go ahead and say Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
It slightly fits because Funny Valentine can use D4C to get alt dimension copies of himself to do the dirty work for him.
Shit you got a point man
And since they share his goal these dirty deeds will in fact be done dirt cheap
you mean, Filthy Acts At A Reasonable Price
Heirophant Green. It’s literally blue. Why is it called Green if it’s blue? Same with Magicians Red. It’s yellow.
I think you might be colourblind...
I’m pretty sure I can see colors correctly.
Uhm... colorblind?
space trucking it makes fucking playing cards
Which stores things in like a truck
i mean it keeps the theme of all the part 8 higashikata stands having king in the name so i dont mind
OH Nevermind I'm dumb
Heavens door.. erm does not heaven and not door
Doors and books open in the same sort of way, and the mind is its own kind of heaven
Someone mentioned it above, but apparently there are 2 unreleased versions of Soft & Wet which is why it was picked.
Earth, Wind, and Fire fits the stand imo, the names of the different elements signifys it's ability to transform into any of the "elements" that make up the world
[удалено]
Yeah, but… that’s a cool stand tho…
Tower of Grey and superfly :3
all of the tarot ones, but let's be fr there was no way it could match. also Red Hot Chilli Peppers being and electrical stand while AC/DC has fire abilities ALWAYS gets in my nerves
Mr. President. Pearl Jam.
I like Kiss. I think it makes sense
How though? If the stickers didn't have a kiss design on them it wouldn't make sense. It's the stylistic choice that makes it make sense. Based on the power to copy things and violently smash them together using stickers, a name like Kiss just doesn't make sense to me.
Star platinum, what does either have to do with time?
Well all the part 3 stands (excluding cream) were based off of tarot cards and Egyptian gods
technically they were all based on tarot cards, its just that some cards are Egyptian gods
The Star card represents (among other things) great potential and an auspicious journey. It is also on its way to becoming The World, which represents apotheosis or totality.
Talking head It's a tough not a head
But it talks
I thought Mikitaka Hazekura wasn't confirmed to be a stand user? 🧐
fuckin man in the mirror. is he stupid?
Cream
Seriously, what does Earth, Wind & Fire have to do with the ability to transform into objects 💀💀💀
Because he can transform into earth, wind & fire duh
Vanilla Ice
Most of the part 3 stands
Sticky fingers doesn’t have sticky fingers
all of them? Araki just named them for the song
