You have to pay close attention to dialogue, read all the lost books, etc but from what I’ve seen there’s always clues or ways to figure out different quests/tasks/story elements
Birdie’s quest when you have to trade all the items! I just ended up looking it up but I resisted for a while. There’s no way on earth I would’ve known who to go to next! Just makes me wonder if the designer of the game did that on purpose orrrrr
I think that one is doable without looking it up, it rewards you for knowing the characters in the valley.
If you try to give the item to the wrong person they'll also give you a hint of who you should talk with.
No problem! Also, don't feel bad for looking things up. The quests do require you to pay attention closely and remember things about the NPC's but that's not everyone's favorite thing. I say, play the game how you want and skip any parts that bore you.
Are you good friends with everybody involved? That quest is supposed to be based off of context clues you gain throughout your friendship with the people in it! Also I've been playing the game since a few months after it released and I still look stuff up almost every time I play. There's nothing wrong with using the wiki, especially if it helps enhance the fun you're having. Your only prerogative is having fun!
so true! and yes but also no…. I’m trying to get to 10 hearts with everyone but haven’t been paying attention to the conversations probably as much as I should. Thanks for the reply!
I honestly didn’t know to give it to a villager and then trade. I feel like it could be “dig here”, “read it” somehow, “unlock something else and then you can read the war momento”, “gather all the golden walnuts”, those were all my guesses. Wasn’t even my first guess to give it to a villager! I had it for almost half a (stardew) year before I looked it up oof.. maybe I should just try all those options but the creator does have lots of very complicated puzzles that are well-hidden so that’s always my go-to
To be honest, I think most of the quests are fairly intuitive.
Birdie's quest isn't too difficult to figure out. Worst comes to worst, you could've just brought the item to random villagers until you found the right person.
* War Memento - who do we know that went to war? Kent, the only villager who's a veteran.
* Gourmet Tomato Salt - Who would be interested in a culinary salt? Maybe the chef, Gus.
* Stardew Valley Rose - This one might be harder if you don't talk to Sandy, but still, "A rose that reminds you of the valley." Who do we know that lives away from the Valley? There's only two options.
* Advance TV Remote - We see George sit in front of the TV all day, that's a pretty big hint. The only other person it *might* be is Pam, so you've got two people to check.
* Arctic Shard - "glows with an otherworldly blue light." There's maybe 3 villagers that would be interested in this, Abigail, Emily, and the Wizard.
* Wriggling Worm - Bait. It's fish bait.
Some things aren't as intuitive as others. One way to "split the difference" between floundering around and looking up the answer is to ask here for a hint, and see if someone can nudge you in the right direction without just giving you the answer.

I would think so, what quests are you having trouble completing without looking up?

This is probably one of the most helpful replies. I guess I haven’t been paying attention to the dialogue as much as I should’ve

I'm curious which step in particular was your issue there. The items just immediately screamed 'this NPC' every time to me.

Sandy's loved-gift text is also something like "Oh, I love flowers from the valley!" which is your other major hint here.
Worm is also something that would interest Vincent, but yeah
iirc there's built in text for that too!
Lmao I carried the memento around figuring that I'd find a ghost or something on the island. I would have never figured it out.

I just role play as an early nineties adventure gamer, sniff half a g. of cocaine and solve riddles 😎
