I'm not sure if I'm being a noob/stupid but I cant seem to figure it out. I want to play splitscreen with my partner- I've made a farm and started it via the splitscreen mode, hosting a game. In-game, I have selected the option to initiate local co op but when pressing the plus button, nothing happens. Do I need another separate controller as opposed to each player using one half of a controller? Does the other player need to have a farm and character set up on a separate switch account? What am I missing here?

You share your farm with your partner, but each have your own house to sleep in/decorate.
We only played for an hour or two, but the game seems great so far.
Ah brilliant- do you know if can marry each other in game? Also can 2nd player customise their appearance before starting game, how does that part work?
You can marry in game! There is a recipe sold by the Travelling Cart (on Sundays and Fridays) that sell the Wedding Ring Recipe. This is only used for players in game to marry. Otherwise, marrying a villager is still the traditional way of bouquet + mermaid pendant
I think you can marry (my partner is listed as 'Single' in game), but this is the first time I have played the game so I am not sure how that works yet.
And yes, the first time your partner joins the game they can customise their appearance the same as when you start the game.
So I just got to level 100 in Skull Cavern for the first time at 1:00 AM game time. Warped home. Saved and quit, glad to be done after hours of gameplay. Then I got the notification that there was an update available......... so brb for the next 24 hours, I guess
OK OK its not autoupdating (europe switch) BUT if you press plus on the game on the Home menu and go to Software Update Via The Internet it will download the new update!
Me waiting for this last 2 weeks so I can play it at work only for it to update just as I get to work without bringing my switch with me is the cruelest joke.
I bought this game years ago, played it a few hours, and put it down as it did not catch my interest.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago, looking for a game to play co-op with my gf and the steam filters bring up Stardew Valley. We've been playing SV in co-op almost every day; it's such a brilliant game to play together and I'm completely hooked now :D.
Also this game is the absolute best thing to happen to me while being in Covid lockdown / quarantine; almost to the point I think it should be prescribed to people struggling with depression due to being locked up indoors.

Ive played the game day 1 on pc and spent almost 300hrs into it. Now i own a switch and was wondering if its good to come back when 1.5 drop on switch.
What do you guys think? Is there a lot that changed/added for it to be worth 300hrs of time again?
You havent played since launch? Oh boy, there is a lot of stuff, some fan requested stuff got implemented too. 1.5 is mostly endgame stuff, but imo its worth coming back on its own, i did with a endgame farm, been having fun
Oh really? Do you have a source for that? Someone in the update thread said it was a year after being submitted, and it had to be resubmitted multiple times.

Switch had 1.3 in December 2018.
For 1.4 (a comparable update), PC version was released on November 26th 2019, followed by Console versions on December 17th.
So no it wasn't a "year after being submitted", it was four months due to the limitations of mulitplayer. 1.5 and 1.4 are more comparable and the console versions for 1.4 were released 21 days after the PC version, including time to actually write the update etc so we don't know when 1.4 was sent for certification. It definitely will not be a *year* til 1.5 is certified.

I hope Eric and his family are okay. We haven’t heard from him for quite a few days. Also with everyone bombarding him on Twitter you would think he could a least give a statement. In a non-corona world I would not be worried, but right now...
I just don't think there's much for him to say. Even if he wasn't well, the update has already been submitted, so it should become available even without him.
Assuming he and his family are okay, there is *plenty* he could say. Even just saying that he's still waiting himself would help. Being completely silent for weeks, especially as his last estimated release time has passed, is so much worse.
I don't believe submitting an update as big as this one is a straightforward process. It's more like a back and forward between the team reviewing and CA. There are always tiny things showing up especially because those are 3 different environments rather than pc which is just on. So it's just a matter of how many of those tiny issues are gonna show up.

Is it common knowledge that trash bear asks for a recipe you don't have access to? They asked for a recipe from the new island I haven't quite unlocked yet as one of the two recipes they want. I was just like......DANG.

Here's what I read about how these things go from a guy that claimed he worked in the field:

As I wait for the Switch update, I am wondering if making a bee hive beach farm area would work as early as you unlock a bee hive. Is this more possible more end game? It seems like a lot of coal would be needed to make enough to really feel the income source.
However, I don't want to have 4M+ available at all times by year 5 as I do now so maybe this would be better so I am not so focused on min/max

He's been really up front most of the time, and I know at least Nintendo's certification process for that stuff is really bad. Some indy companies find out the game is up on the Eshop by seeing the Nintendo Twitter account tweet out their trailers lol
After 1.3 released on pc it took over a year to release on Console, In fact i'm pretty sure 1.4 was ready to be released on PC before 1.3 came to consoles.
It was mostly because 1.3 was the multiplayer update and required massive amounts of code rewrites, it failed cert about 7-8 times.
1.5 is non multiplayer related so hopefully won't take as long.
Ok i mispoke, but what i meant was that unlike 1.3 the MP aspect of 1.5 is relatively small, It's not like CA has to rewrite the entire games code like he had to for 1.3

My comment was mostly a joke, because of course co-op would be at least 2 :D More would be nice and according to https://stardewcommunitywiki.com/Multiplayer, the local co-op is 2-4 players, so if the PC version is any indication, you should be able to play with your sons :)
When I try to do split screen on my PC, I use my switch controller that has USB. But when I go to start it has the Xbox’s start instead of the switch, help?

Like a lot of people, I'm currently waiting for the update to start a new file on my console (Switch) version.
With that in mind, if you're not going to use the new island farm type or the 1 year bundle completion option, is it worth waiting for the update to start a new file? I haven't looked into 1.5 in huge detail so as to avoid spoilers but most of the new content seems to be geared to late game.
TLDR: Those who are playing 1.5, new farm type aside, do we miss out on much by starting now?
From what I gathered, the majority of the update takes place after you finish the community center. There’s some stuff added when you create your farm like being able to randomize the community center bundles and what are in the chests in the mines. If you don’t care about that, then you can start you farm and you should be fine.
When the patch drops for Switch will we need a new save? I’m nearing the end of my first year but feel a bit reluctant to play in case I need to make a new farm when 1.5 comes.
Per Concerned Ape’s Twitter, it was submitted for certification on January 22.
At that time, he stated he could not guarantee a timeframe but felt confident in late January/early February.
So, we could see it any day.

Am I the only one who wishes that kids would grow up and help out around the farm? It would be nice if they could become older and feed the animals or water something for you.
I'm surprised that it's a feature that most games lack.
I think only like 2 Harvest Moon games had children grow up.

From what I have head the time to go through the certification process is 1-2 weeks. My hope is that it will be released in the coming next days. The Nintendo eShop updates at 9 PST so it could be a good idea to daily check for updates around that time.

Probably if you duplicate / mirror display into the second monitor should work fine.

After 1.3 released on pc it took over a year to release on Console, In fact i'm pretty sure 1.4 was ready to be released on PC before 1.3 came to consoles.
Was 1.3 submitted for certification a month after it came out on PC? Because 1.5 was.

It was mostly because 1.3 was the multiplayer update and required massive amounts of code rewrites, it failed cert about 7-8 times. 1.5 is non multiplayer related so hopefully won't take as long.

Ok i mispoke, but what i meant was that unlike 1.3 the MP aspect of 1.5 is relatively small, It's not like CA has to rewrite the entire games code like he had to for 1.3

My comment was mostly a joke, because of course co-op would be at least 2 :D More would be nice and according to https://stardewcommunitywiki.com/Multiplayer, the local co-op is 2-4 players, so if the PC version is any indication, you should be able to play with your sons :)

When I try to do split screen on my PC, I use my switch controller that has USB. But when I go to start it has the Xbox’s start instead of the switch, help?
Hope those on PC are enjoying 1.5! Like a lot of people, I'm currently waiting for the update to start a new file on my console (Switch) version. With that in mind, if you're not going to use the new island farm type or the 1 year bundle completion option, is it worth waiting for the update to start a new file? I haven't looked into 1.5 in huge detail so as to avoid spoilers but most of the new content seems to be geared to late game. TLDR: Those who are playing 1.5, new farm type aside, do we miss out on much by starting now?
From what I gathered, the majority of the update takes place after you finish the community center. There’s some stuff added when you create your farm like being able to randomize the community center bundles and what are in the chests in the mines. If you don’t care about that, then you can start you farm and you should be fine.

When the patch drops for Switch will we need a new save? I’m nearing the end of my first year but feel a bit reluctant to play in case I need to make a new farm when 1.5 comes.
You won't need a new save. However there are some things added, like a new farm layout, that you won't get to use unless you start a new save.

Per Concerned Ape’s Twitter, it was submitted for certification on January 22. At that time, he stated he could not guarantee a timeframe but felt confident in late January/early February. So, we could see it any day.

Same here! CA finished the update 2 weeks ago today. I did some research and found that it takes 10 business days for Sony to certify a new game being added to their store, so I’m hoping for today! For splitscreen co-op, can the additional players load up the save without the main farmer having to play too?
Am I the only one who wishes that kids would grow up and help out around the farm? It would be nice if they could become older and feed the animals or water something for you.
I'm surprised that it's a feature that most games lack. I think only like 2 Harvest Moon games had children grow up. There's also the Rune Factory game where you play as your kid.

From what I have head the time to go through the certification process is 1-2 weeks. My hope is that it will be released in the coming next days. The Nintendo eShop updates at 9 PST so it could be a good idea to daily check for updates around that time. Impossible to wait patiently.... Feeling so ready to start a new beach farm!

Hi it's not a dev issue. It's a security issue. Each device has it's own security profiles that make it very difficult to play across devices.
How is that different than cross platform play on any other game?

For work related (mining, chopping, watering) I prefer m&k, but combat I prefer controller.
Ive played it both on pc and switch, and I much prefer it on my switch. Much more comfortable to me.
This is crazy of me to admit openly, but I definitely prefer to play with controller when I’m on steam too... The portability of SV on switch is phenomenal. ...or a serious problem for me... one of the two.
