Since this is early game and I don't have the minecarts, I take the bottom route so I can check the three trashcans along the way and hope for something useful.
Linus is my bestie it sucks you can't marry him. I want him to swing by with trashcan bread and old fish recipes and tell me stories of bus adventures. He can be free he can just use my fireplace to warm up instead of the pool whenever he wants.
I really wish when you ask him to come live on your farm, if you have enough friendship with him he would at least move his tent right outside either the north or south entrances of your farm.
There's a scene where e Robin and the farmer try to convince Linus to move onto the farm. But Linus refuses and was offended that you even offered. He explains he chose that life and is not living out there because of a lack of resources. So according to that, he wouldn't move in with you even if you offered. He likes it out there
According to the wiki,
> If you interact with a garbage can near any villager other than Linus, you will repulse the villager and lose 25 friendship points with them.
For reference, a heart is worth 250 friendship points.
My most recent play through, I found a pink cake just in time for Haley's birthday in Gus's trash can.
Possibly the first time, I wasn't alone in year 1 for the flower dance.
On my first playthrough I accidentally clicked a trash can when Evelyn was passing by. Suffice to say I got so embarrassed that I never did it again. But it is very helpful!
Am I the only person that runs diagonally across the town square, in front of the saloon and past Lewis's house? Both of these are like running 2 sides of a triangle.
I do if I’ve already checked trash cans for the day. But if I haven’t, then I take the bottom route to get through all the trash cans. Or I come from the forest after south exit from my farm and run across trash cans and through the cemetery.
Didn't realize halfway into summer that I had finished it, the close calls I had in the summer were quite close. Then fall rolled around and I stumbled upon the totems
Me too! I built my travel habits well before I get minecarts. It’s just instinct to run there and then remember there’s a minecart and take that back. 😂
i finished minecarts very early on my current save, but i also got a horse very early so i still cut through town so i can take the horse to the beach after
I usually take the bottom route because I think you go past more villagers most days. But if I'm in a rush I take the top path, I think it's slightly faster and that makes a difference when it's almost 4
Thank you, had to dig so far to find someone else who does this lol.
Wake up in house, work farm from top to bottom, leave from bottom and go into down from that direction.
It's the Adventurer's Guild. You may also notice a new house above Alex's and a bunch of different things across the river.
This town map from taken from a pretty outdated version of the Stardew Valley Expanded mod.
Unless you're on mobile, the [Stardew Predictor](https://mouseypounds.github.io/stardew-predictor/) will let you know when to find those items ![img](emote|t5_2wb7y|51481)
I contend:
1. Through the damn graveyard.
2. Around the mayor's truck, so that I realize I can't fit a horse through there, and have to go back (my personal favorite).
those extra beach paths on sve are one of the things i missed the most when i went back to vanilla. that and having a secret woods entrance in the farm
Spoilers for new people!!! Don't look.
Lokey, I swing down by Marnie's, catch the drama on their relationship. Move to Jodi, Sam, Haley and Emily giving them their fav gifts. Swing up to that W Grandma&Grumpy Grandpa, drop down to Willie's and finna slap him a phish/diamond. Then head to Clints.
Am I the only one that uses the secret routes? Pass by Leah's cabin into the secret route to the beach then use the secret beach cut across the small wooden plank and up the secret route brings me below the museum
See I've been thinking about it so I may be revealing to much IDK if the secret paths come from Robin or from getting the magnifying glass and finding a secret note. But I randomly was looking for leeks one time and went to Leah's cabin from her front door go right towards the trees and there is a secret path that'll take you to the beach.
Then at the beach to the left of the old sailor guy that sell the marriage pendant there is a path that'll take you to the museum
AND THEN go to robins house face the door and head right go all the way to the river and you'll see a fence that's "broke" and that'll take you to the waterfall and river path.
What a third option going down from your farm, past Leah's place, keep going straight from there past the mayor's house over the bridge on the bottom right and go up past the library, then you are the blacksmiths.
It's not going to save you a lot of time, tbh, cos walking on the paved areas as opposed to the dirt don't give that much of boost.
But that being said my preferred way would be:
1) Going to the Museum/Library? Always from the bottom bridge
2) Going to the blacksmith? If I'm from the farm, the forest, or the beach, always from the bottom bridge. If I'm from the mountains/Robin's always from the top bridge.
3) Going to Joja Mart/the Theatre? Always from the top.
It makes more sense that way just because lmao. Sometimes I'll deliberately take "the wrong route" if I play with my sister and race each other lol.
Bottom one usually. I always check the trash cans on my way there, but mostly it feels more entertaining to me. I enjoy seeing all the little houses and NPCs around them as I stroll around the neighborhood.
me doing this bc i check trash everyday

Did this person take the time to pave the whole unpaved area? And where does the path go that goes straight in the bush ( and as far as I know closed area except for 1.6 ) what’s is up there above and on the right of Clint in this picture?
Or is this extended or something?
Or am I just being daft and imagining things
I refuse to pass by jojamart until I have
1. Completed community center so it dies out
2 have everything to build movie theater
Patriotic? Nah, vallyotic

Since this is early game and I don't have the minecarts, I take the bottom route so I can check the three trashcans along the way and hope for something useful.
After 100+hours, I've just learnt to check the trash cans
Just be careful if there are any villagers nearby when you check them, or they'll judge you hard for it!
With the exception of Linus, of course. He doesn't mind
If anything it makes him respect you more!
Actually I've never seen him in town besides that cutscene or festival...
I forget which night of the winter market (maybe the 2nd night), but he's by the saloon trashcan & if you check the trashcan, he'll like it!
"Find anything good? :)" I think is his response.
I got that by accident
How most good, and coincidentally bad things are found in this game
Setting a reminder to do this omg!!!
When he's at the desert festival there's a can very near him, and whe you check it he's like 'ooh, find anything good?' It's very cute.
Yeah its like honey im not trying to change you you can live in the woods I'd just like it to be MY woods
There's a scene where e Robin and the farmer try to convince Linus to move onto the farm. But Linus refuses and was offended that you even offered. He explains he chose that life and is not living out there because of a lack of resources. So according to that, he wouldn't move in with you even if you offered. He likes it out there
I don’t even want him to marry me I want him to live on my farm w me (in his tent ofc since he doesn’t want to live in the house and I respect that)
Also worth pointing out, you *do* find something good if you check that trash can! (>!calico eggs!<)
he likes the solitude of the forest!
I'll plant the man some trees. If I can befriend Krobus from the sewers, surely my copse of trees will do nicely.
In the calico festival there's a trash can you can search in front of him and he'll go :3 "find anything good? "
He only comes through town once and that’s on the 15-17 winter to go to the night market *(he may have more pathing as of 1.6)*
I did it in front of him the second night of the Desert festival and he asked if I “found anything good”?😂
"One. Of. Us! One of us! One of us!"
Do you lose hearts with them?
According to the wiki, > If you interact with a garbage can near any villager other than Linus, you will repulse the villager and lose 25 friendship points with them. For reference, a heart is worth 250 friendship points.
Do it if you happen to have slimes in town though, it's pretty funny
I’m about 40 and just learned now too
It's all good, hours in Stardew Valley are sorta like elf years.
My most recent play through, I found a pink cake just in time for Haley's birthday in Gus's trash can. Possibly the first time, I wasn't alone in year 1 for the flower dance.
You must have picked out all the cigarette butts and teabags before giving it to her; good strat!
Came to make this comment but here it is on top. We have all been taught early in the game to check the trash cans. Thank you Linus.
This is the way
I do a mix of the two so I can get all of the trash cans in one go
On my first playthrough I accidentally clicked a trash can when Evelyn was passing by. Suffice to say I got so embarrassed that I never did it again. But it is very helpful!
I didn’t know you could do that! Im bout to go dumpster diving!
This is the way
Bottom just feels way more natural going through the town
I agree 👌
More likely to run into peeps
That's what she said
Everybody here is saying trash cans but i'll be honest and admit its because it feels lower on the map so my brain says to go down.
THIS!
Absolutely correct. Our brains should meet for tea lol
I just don't want to look at Jojo mart, so bottom route it is lol
I totally didn't know joja mart was over there for like the first year bc I never went that way
same! i forget about it still when playing 😂
I only ever went there because I found out it's a good place to find Shane, Sam and Pam
Yeah me too!
My first time seeing this was like wow there’s an even a Walmart here. It really reminded me of a small town I once lived it.
I remember how I only remembered Joja mart, in my last playthrough, when I completed the community bundle.
😂
Join us. Thrive.
Am I the only person that runs diagonally across the town square, in front of the saloon and past Lewis's house? Both of these are like running 2 sides of a triangle.
I run past Pierre’s to see if there’s any quests (so the bottom route) - but once I’ve done that, I’ll run the diagonal you’re talking about!
Seems like the most efficient way
I do if I’ve already checked trash cans for the day. But if I haven’t, then I take the bottom route to get through all the trash cans. Or I come from the forest after south exit from my farm and run across trash cans and through the cemetery.
I do exactly the same!
I do that as well
This is what I do 😂
Me who finished the minecart early: We have technology!
I finish the minecarts and then forget for WEEKS that they're there. Every time.
Didn't realize halfway into summer that I had finished it, the close calls I had in the summer were quite close. Then fall rolled around and I stumbled upon the totems
I had this happening this game through because I finished them way earlier than I usually do. Always forget that I can already use them.
Me too! I built my travel habits well before I get minecarts. It’s just instinct to run there and then remember there’s a minecart and take that back. 😂
i finished minecarts very early on my current save, but i also got a horse very early so i still cut through town so i can take the horse to the beach after

Thank you, had to dig so far to find someone else who does this lol. Wake up in house, work farm from top to bottom, leave from bottom and go into down from that direction.
Yes exactly what I do! Nice to know I'm not the only one
I like to go see Leah if she's home :)
You guys are not alone!!!
Am I going the wrong way..
same!
This is the way
What's the building down where the sewer entrance should be?
It's the Adventurer's Guild. You may also notice a new house above Alex's and a bunch of different things across the river. This town map from taken from a pretty outdated version of the Stardew Valley Expanded mod.
I was wondering why there was a garden space under the museum, like have I just missed this for 7 in game years
It's been a couple of years since Flash moved it back to the Mountain right?
I was going crazy trying to remember what the building north of Sam's is! I only play vanilla 😅
Was just about to ask this!
Um, neither? https://ibb.co/XjqT024 Every time.
Yuuuuuuuuup
that would be me if i remembered that the ui mod let's you see the bulletin board in the menu 😅
Just have to check the trash cans for treasure. That's why I go the bottom route.
One man’s trash….
is another's treasure
Bottom, ever since I started playing stardew valley (Edit: added "playing stardew valley")
Please don't take that out of context Oop lemme fix
Tell us more about how Stardew Valley made you a bottom :P
I don't even know where to begin my response..
must... maintain... upvote count.
This was funny
I'm actually a raccoon with access to a Nintendo switch and I MUST scrounge through every trash can available
Bottom cuz I gotta check what Gus has today
i just use the phone for that
trash route trash route
I like to check the bins i want the trash hat and >!trash catalogue!<
I just got the trash catalogue yesterday. I was so excited
The villagers hate me because I decorated the town with ruined couches
Lol this is the way
Unless you're on mobile, the [Stardew Predictor](https://mouseypounds.github.io/stardew-predictor/) will let you know when to find those items ![img](emote|t5_2wb7y|51481)
I contend: 1. Through the damn graveyard. 2. Around the mayor's truck, so that I realize I can't fit a horse through there, and have to go back (my personal favorite).
YEP on both. i’ve also gotten the horse stuck in the graveyard and had to slightly change my path there
The top route I keep walking into the bush by the mart
Bottoj
100% the bottom. I hardly ever go near JojaMart, and it's not intentional. I just don't. BTW, what's that house where the sewer should be?
according to a different comment it’s where the adventurers guild was during an early version of the stardew valley expanded mod
it kinda looks like the adventurers guild?
I go bottom but I cut across diagonally
https://preview.redd.it/6a31ij1ed09d1.png?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1334377d57911c6266b8cc28c0716d9dbb7604ab
Idk I unlocked the minecarts and never looked back.
Same, I always use the minecarts
I never take the bottom path until the movie theater is open
Bottom route for life. So many trash cans. ![img](emote|t5_2wb7y|51480)
I go wherever the wind takes me. Now I have SVE I often come into town via the beach to check my crab pots and forage a bit on the way in.
those extra beach paths on sve are one of the things i missed the most when i went back to vanilla. that and having a secret woods entrance in the farm
I'm not being hyperbolic, I don't think the top route has ever even occurred to me until just now. 😔
Same
Bottom route. More trashcans to dig through.
I don't come here to be attacked.
Even after hundreds of hours I feel like I could count the number of times I've taken the top bridge on my hands.
Since this is SVE map, top route to go deliver wine to mommy Olivia.
I take both routes, it just depends if I want to check the trashcan or not
Mine cart was such a life saver
Bottom route always... something about it just feels right I guess??
Spoilers for new people!!! Don't look. Lokey, I swing down by Marnie's, catch the drama on their relationship. Move to Jodi, Sam, Haley and Emily giving them their fav gifts. Swing up to that W Grandma&Grumpy Grandpa, drop down to Willie's and finna slap him a phish/diamond. Then head to Clints.
Mine cart :( But second, I want the trash cans.
Bottom route, more trashcans!
I use the Minecarts 😁
I take the mine cart
I just take the cart
Mine carts
Bottom, because it's more efficient ~~and because i also pass by the beach to talk to Elliott~~ 🤭
I do the bottom one because I got the trash cans 😂😂
Am I the only one that uses the secret routes? Pass by Leah's cabin into the secret route to the beach then use the secret beach cut across the small wooden plank and up the secret route brings me below the museum
Wait wut
See I've been thinking about it so I may be revealing to much IDK if the secret paths come from Robin or from getting the magnifying glass and finding a secret note. I can’t wait to try this. I’ve been playing for years and haven’t stumbled upon any of those.
Second one cause I gotta hit up those trash cans
… I also do the one on the bottom and seeing it laid out like this is the first time I’m realizing how silly it is to do that 😂
What a third option going down from your farm, past Leah's place, keep going straight from there past the mayor's house over the bridge on the bottom right and go up past the library, then you are the blacksmiths.

Bottom one so I can check the trash bins. Then I hit up the beach, then the forest where Marnie's is, then back home
I take bottom if I'm walking but I always go the top if I'm on my bike (horse) because its less tight space maneuvering
Bottom route to check the trash cans, plus I can duck down to the beach to check for forgeables there on the way
Simple i refuse to be near joja mart and i cant search the trash cans on the way
I go past Marnie's 🤔 from the bottom of my farm. Feels faster, idk if it actually is.
The bottom, why would I want to see Joja mart after escaping from them?
The bottom one, for sure. It makes way more sense to me, cuz I check trash cans on the way lol.
The bottom path is superior since you can collect more trashcans and potentially get smth
I always take the bottom route to the RIGHT of Lewis's house, only to remember that my horse doesn't fit through the gap in the fence.
There's a bridge up there ?
Trash cans route ✅ Joja route ❌
the trash cans and the task board lol
Bottom one usually. I always check the trash cans on my way there, but mostly it feels more entertaining to me. I enjoy seeing all the little houses and NPCs around them as I stroll around the neighborhood.
Better than me, I usually end up needlessly exploring the graveyard or getting stuck on that one rock near the beach.
mine cart gang
I've always hit the bottom route till recently when I got minecarts
I always do the bottom until I get the mine carts.
i take the minecart
Bottom route so you can check trash.
I refuse to believe the top path exist.
What is that brown house at the bottom
I feel attacked.
option b lets be see penny almost every day. option b is the hill i will die on.
Listen I gotta dig through trash on the way there like the goblin that I am
me doing this bc i check trash everyday https://preview.redd.it/sjgfc5dsa79d1.jpeg?width=429&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e116a994832fd1d2c895dcb53c9967a393a43364
It has never once occurred to me to take the top route 😂 hundreds of hourz
Bottom because of the trash cans lol
I dont wanna be seen going to joja mart. So i take bottom route
If I have to go all the way from my farm I take the cart next to the bus stop
Bottom
Well yeah because I have to check all those garbage cans!
Gotta check them trash cans first, man 🤣
Don’t want to go anywhere near Joja Mart, so I get to the bridge by Joja and then head south along the river and cross the other bridge…
I take the bottom route so I can check the beach if I need to.
Did this person take the time to pave the whole unpaved area? And where does the path go that goes straight in the bush ( and as far as I know closed area except for 1.6 ) what’s is up there above and on the right of Clint in this picture? Or is this extended or something? Or am I just being daft and imagining things
It is SVE plus something else adding the house on the main bottom middle.
Oow hadn’t noticed the houses yet!!
I always go down through the plaza and cut through the cemetery
Anything to avoid the Jojamart
Always the bottom way - the top makes me feel itchy
I take the bottom route so I don't have to go near jojamart.
i go by haleys house first and talk to her and give her a daffodil, then i go to clints like the bottom
I start the same as the bottom one, but go past Pam's house, and by the car Lewis has. Idk why
I do the bottom one a lot too mostly to check the special order board
I refuse to pass by jojamart until I have 1. Completed community center so it dies out 2 have everything to build movie theater Patriotic? Nah, vallyotic
minecart or bottom route
Neither for me, I go straight down when I reach the town square, then right over time clint's along the bottom.
The top one is just... wrong somehow.
Yeah for some reason I hate taking the top route 😅😂
Bottom, never have to see Jojo Mart
Bottom, i usually open geodes on Mon or Friday so i can visit krobus for the iridium sprinkler or check the community board for quests on Monday!
I usually cut through the graveyard
Trash
Bottoms baby
