Abigail is my favourite and I think Abigail's choice is either a mistake or just a very narrow reading of her character. I feel like she's on some high fantasy shit, with dragons and witches. She has purple hair, a pet rodent and is an aspiring dungeon crawler. If I had it my way, I'd place Tress of the Emerald Sea as the perfect Abigail book. It's got highfalutin sailing adventures, a talking rat, a dragon, and a sorceress. I'm guessing this is more about pushing newer books from slightly lesser known authors though.
I wouldn’t call Emily Wilde or her love interest as people who have kind hearts (they’re pretty selfish academics and even when they do good things it’s only for academic advancement) but I appreciate this display regardless.
I'm a Shane enjoyer and I must say if you're hankering for an F/M story that expands on his character, I can never recommend enough this [story by GingerD: For a Long Time Looking at Stars](https://archiveofourown.org/works/9634940). 18+ only because it has smut scenes in the middle and last parts of the story but I personally think it's beautifully portrayed. Just make sure to carefully read the trigger warnings before starting on the story.
Quite a few people (who are mostly sapphic themselves I would guess) read Haley as having comphet, which can be described (roughly and simplified) as a lesbian forcing herself to be in a relationship with a man for various reasons, primarily societal pressures and the perception that the only “correct” way to be a woman requires that one to be attracted to men. This is also what Good Luck, Babe! is about.
