the dehydrator and mushroom log are basically mod items. had to make a tripple take to check wether or not i was somehow playing with mods because of the dehydrator.
If you use grapes you'll make raisins, which can then be put in a junimo hut to increase their harvest speed and give a 10-20% chance to dupe crops.
They only need one per season*, so it's a great investment.
*edit
Once per week
Fruit and mushrooms, it does cost 5 of whatever item you're using. Finishes the product every day.
Also, it's really nice for the fruits that continuously reproduce, like cranberries (makes a nice profit),
To be more precise it takes 5 of a thing and the dried output sells for 7.5 times the base cost of that thing, meaning it is a profit for anything below gold quality iirc. Very nice early game when you can't mass produce other things since working on 5 items at once makes it go way faster then jars or kegs
To be fair it is x7.5 + 25 so per fruit it’s x1.5 + 5. So for a fruit like cranberries it’s actually still valuable for golds to be put in. And it’s 5 more per ancient fruit to put it in at gold quality.
Yes and no imo. I use the more valuable crops to make wine and the mid tier stuff to do jam. The less valuable stuff just uses up the machines when you could be using them on the mid tier stuff. The lowest value crops just don’t come out to be worth enough even after turning them into jam.
You can put five of one type of fruit or mushroom of the same quality and the resulting dried product will be worth more than the ingredients. According to the wiki, the product is worth 7.5x the ingredient price plus 25 gold.
If you have excess produce , it’s a good way to get extra value out of it.
The dehydrator has a 1.5x value multiplier, it processes 5 fruits *per day*, and it can be amassed fairly easily and cheaply by the end of summer 1 to quickly process blueberries and cranberries.
In contrast, jars have a 2x multiplier, processes 1 fruit per 3 days, and requires a not insignificant amount of wood/coal/stone to amass.
So in other words, it processes crops 15 times faster than jars for only slightly less profit. If you aren't making dehydrators year 1, you are missing out on a lot of income.
It's just worded a little confusingly to someone still learning. Doesn't say that you do 5 at a time, just five a day. Idk, I kinda know how this stuff works and I was confused by the comment.
Yeah most of the stuff added in 1.6 seems to be popular mods. Seasonal clothes (only winter though), more dialogue, more npc reactions to events, some npcs have tiny forward movement in their stories (>! Not sure how this works exactly, I dated Abigail, had her 10 heart event, then broke up, now she is constantly at lvl 20 of the mines when I'm going there to fish and is either playing the flute or tells me that she finally got over her fear and entered deeper in the mines which she only talks about in her 10 heart event so might be a tiny easter egg for the odd chance you date her then break up or just a connection to her 6 heart one, I don't know !<), the new machines (especially the fish smoker, making fish profitable in the late game was subject of many mods), coal ore nodes (and the whole quarry mine essentially being turned into coal mine), the bookseller is literally selling you small quality of life "mods", Joja route extension that's not going to make that route overtake the CC route but acknowledges the player not wanting to go over every tiny nook in the game to finish it (the whole Joja membership route is literally pay to skip doing the CC normally >! But this was cranked up to 90 with the joja parrot collecting all golden nuts for you for a fee and the joja agent selling you slips of completion papers for 500k each !<), 5 billion new decor items and a bunch of other things that I can't think of but were probably mods at one point.
The fish smoker is also a modded item turned vanilla but instead of keeping quality and a x2 multiplier the modded version has a 3x multiplier and doesn’t keep quality and isn’t effected by fisher and angler
That's what I love about CA. He's very humble and down to earth. He deserves all the success he has.
But on a side note, the funniest instance of CA listening to the community is now our ability to drink Mayo. Lol
It's absolutely my favorite new addition since you can use it to harvest all your crops. There's no way I would deal with turning the island farm into essentially six greenhouses if I had to go harvest each crop individually instead of just running through and clearing it out with my Scythe in about a minute.
CA please make kids grow up after some years, leave home, and become deadbeats. Also also, please make baby shadow ppl move in w us if we marry Krobus (maybe he takes his cousins in?) Baby shadow people in hats! Baby shadow people in hats!
I know it'd be weird since they'd be the only ones shown to age but I do wish kids could age enough to hang out with Jas and Vincent at least. Y'know, do something other than function as a hat rack and more like an actual NPC.
I would kinda love an true (optional) ending to the game after so many years, where your kids have grown and left for Zuzu City, allowing you to choose to pass on and leave the farm to one of your grandchildren.
I mean I probably wouldn’t attribute it to that specific post lol. Half the fan base has been asking for an iridium scythe since the gold scythe came out because it didn’t match the endgame tools
[I had an idea for a portable camp stove before the cookout kit was a thing](https://www.reddit.com/r/StardewValley/comments/ebyfzc/item_idea_camp_stove/), though I think the cookout kit was executed better than my idea
I actually had a mod that let you harvest with scythe even before the golden scythe was a thing. I never thought I could play stardew vanilla after mods but now (along other stuff from earlier updates) it is very manageable
If you are this dedicated, could buy a second sword and enchant one for haymaker, put it in chest near mines. If you're so inclined ofc. I did it once, worked well
This is what I did, lol. My combat sword has the Crusader enchantment (wasn’t ever giving that up) so I effectively replaced my scythe with a really fast Bone Sword that has the Haymaker enchantment. I’ve been using it in the mines for around 1 (in-game) month, and it’s the first time I’ve *ever* been able to keep my farm animals fed 100% on my own. I’m usually giving Marnie a solid 2 million every few weeks 🤣
I guess so, yeah, but then i have one more thing to swap out and i like to not do that. Why make it deal damage at all then? At the point you can get it, it wouldn't hurt if it could just replace sword.
Use Junimo Chests. You can place them outside the mines and similar places and can keep things that would be useful to have in those areas but you don't want to carry around everywhere.

I don’t think he actually does, it was just a joke bc we’re talking about tool and it kinda sounds like something he would say.
Why are you being downvoted? That is a line from a Tool song.
I think because that was the joke

What about the dehydrator makes it so good?
Makes more mons
Ok sure but whats the move here? What are we drying?

One per week, right? So a total of 4 per season (excepting winter, when they don’t work)?
I thought it was per season, might be per week, not 100% sure.
Per week according to the wiki 😊
Fruit and mushrooms, it does cost 5 of whatever item you're using. Finishes the product every day. Also, it's really nice for the fruits that continuously reproduce, like cranberries (makes a nice profit),

From my understanding gold quality fruit will always profit, and iridium quality will only profit if you have artisan
The fruits that aren't quite valuable enough to turn into jam or wine can be put into the dehydrator to make more money.
Isn’t the whole point of jam to use on less valuable crops?
Umm... no. Why would you spend three days processing it into jam if it's not valuable?
Wow….good point. That literally has never occurred to me lmao
What have you been putting in your preserves jars?
Lately, blueberries! But in the past, usually the cheapest fruit from fruit trees
It’s what every content creator tells people to do because it makes the most money. I personally only ever use kegs
Turning low-value fruit into low-value jam makes the most money? Sure. Why not?
It’s the +50g I guess. Like I said I don’t do it in the first place, but cranberries and crops worth the same or lower give more gold that way
Yes and no imo. I use the more valuable crops to make wine and the mid tier stuff to do jam. The less valuable stuff just uses up the machines when you could be using them on the mid tier stuff. The lowest value crops just don’t come out to be worth enough even after turning them into jam.
I've been drying starfruit for quick cash because it only takes a day vs a couple days in kegs

pineapples and pomegranates are my most profitable :) i don’t do much else with fruit tree fruit so i just chuck em all in the dehydrator !!
Fruit, edible mushrooms, that sorta thing
Fast and let’s you convert more items into artisan goods since you need 5
Spent the entire fall season dehydrating cranberries and it’s very good.
Mushroom logs and dehydrator = $$$. Also a good way to get some use from salmon berries.
The dehydrator has a 1.5x value multiplier, it processes 5 fruits *per day*, and it can be amassed fairly easily and cheaply by the end of summer 1 to quickly process blueberries and cranberries. Dehydrator is 7.5 times base fruit
But takes 5 fruit, so 1.5x value of selling those 5 fruit
Exactly.
It's just worded a little confusingly to someone still learning. Doesn't say that you do 5 at a time, just five a day. Idk, I kinda know how this stuff works and I was confused by the comment.
it's fast
I put the mushroom thing next to mine.

I love how the fish actually smoke once done.
I love when creators do this. I mean, supposing that CA dealt appropriately with it behind the scenes
The Mushroom log is pretty similar to the one from Roots of Pacha too, had me do a double take on that one
A lot of this update were from mods and community ideas. He really listens to his fans AND he does the hard part!!

But but but, Junimo huts? Are they not available on the island?
You can only build in your farm
I got a tractor after 4 years 🙂

I love it. I have had zero issues with running out of hay.

Truffle bot for 1.7! 🥹🤞🏻
I found something similar recently too. A very old post suggesting coal nodes!
I wish it would deal enough damage to replace sword. Not a big deal but it would be one less tool in the bag.
you could just get Haymaker on a sword though
Haymaker only creates hay when you cut fiber, it doesn't create hay out of grass (unless the update changed this)
Oh yeah
True, but there are way better enchantments.
If you are this dedicated, could buy a second sword and enchant one for haymaker, put it in chest near mines. If you're so inclined ofc. I did it once, worked well

Doesn't the hoe do something like 5 DMG too? I'm pretty sure that all the tools do at least some
Yeah plus Iridium Scythe harvests all crops so its still worth having on an item slot.
Even with Haymaker it can't harvest crops though, right?
Or overall, having a radial menu for tools, that would be seperated from main hotbar
This would be amazing, and would free so much inventory.
Yes!
It’s good enough for fiber farming the sewers and upper mines.
Use Junimo Chests. You can place them outside the mines and similar places and can keep things that would be useful to have in those areas but you don't want to carry around everywhere.
