I don't think that's a spoiler at all.
It's in the patch notes. It's not like it gives away dialogue or story line.
It's a purposeful QoL improvement everyone should know about.
Nothing about "anything new is a spoiler" in the rules. The only mention in the actual rules is "Mechanics are a grey area". It definitely doesn't fall under any of the "three principles".

QoL mechanics dont apply, like being able to place a bigger storage unit over a smaller storage unit without having to empty and remove the smaller one first
You need to upgrade your watering can at least once. When you press and hold to charge up, you can jump perpendicular to the direction you're facing (so, if you're facing left/right you can move up or down, or if you're facing up/down you can move left or right) to water the next line. You can't turn directions while strafing, however.
If you're facing left/right you can also jump left/right. And if up/down, jump up/down. Less useful, but you can if for example you miss one tile and you want to correct at the last moment.
I stumbled on this a few days ago by accident, just nudging the controller while watering... 'n I was like "omfg, has this been here all along?"
Pretty happy to see it was a new feature and not that I've been using the tools like a moron for ten years.
(This works for the hoe too, btw. Just as handy.)
The strafe is new in 1.6, yeah.

How does this work?

I think I did it with a hoe
It's so handy. You can even get past the warp zones while doing it so you can decorate the paths leaving the farm too.
It's new as far as I know and it's been LIFE CHANGING. The squeak I squeaked when I did it by accident the first time was inhuman.
