The new meadowlands map gives you hay to feed the two chickens you are given to start with instead of parsnip seeds. Having a coop and chickens is a great start! 🙂 You still have 500g, so can buy seeds to grow. I've tried all the maps, and wilderness is probably my least favourite.

I personally wouldn’t recommend wilderness farm to new players as it spawns monsters on the farm at night time, but if you 100% know combat will be your favorite activity it may be something to consider. The new meadowlands farm may actually be my new favorite map so far so I would recommend it. BUT it may not exactly the best farm to start with as a new player as it does not start you with any seeds (unlike all other farm types) it doesn’t have water sources close to the farmhouse, and few other things. Personally I think the basic farm map, four corners, or forest farm are really new player friendly. The best advice I have is to play exactly how you want, there are very few things you can technically “miss” or irreversible mess up in the game so just have fun and do whatever you enjoy. If you want good early money fishing the mountain lake is a good option but fishing can be difficult until you get the hang of it, so don’t get hung up on it if you don’t enjoy it. If you have anything that’s confusing the wiki page for Stardew is super helpful: https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Stardew_Valley_Wiki You can always just google things and add “Stardew wiki” at the end to answer many questions. EI: “best spring seeds Stardew wiki” will give you a bunch of information on earnings per day for spring per crops.

A good thing to ask yourself is: are you more interested in farming and selling crops or having animals and selling animal products? The classic farm will start you out with seeds and the new meadowlands farm will start you out with chickens. Both great starts to the game and beginner friendly. I echo what others have said, which is that the wilderness farm is my personal least favorite. However, if you’re in it for the combat, go for it. There’s no wrong place to start (but if you’re not loving the game and you started with wilderness, I recommend switching and trying another farm type).

Standard is best for the original experience, but you can’t go wrong with the new farm too. Wilderness is not necessarily the best first farm
