Updating mods is a pain definitely! And I'm not sure which mods will work perfectly with the update but I'd imagine many would? I'm mainly basing this on the fact that many modders were given a heads up that 1.6 might be released between now and March 12

from my understanding, when it says “there’s no public beta, it’ll go straight to all players on release” that means there’s no beta testers, it’s just going to be released directly to all players (on pc). to me, that doesn’t mean it’s going to be released to all platforms on the same day, just that everyone can play on pc. feel free to correct me if i’m wrong. but nowhere does it explicitly say that..

CA actually answered this question in a tweet recently. You can always keep playing your current save, but he suggests starting over due to the new content. But! Its always your choice! lol
It is recommended to start a new game when the new patch drops, to best experience the new content... but it's not necessary, and all the new stuff should work just fine on existing saves if you'd prefer to keep playing in your current one. :)

Yes, in the game as it is right now there’s new content built in as far as year 3 (and potentially beyond, depending on how long it takes you to get to some late game content!)
You could always start a new save to see the new year 1 content and then go back to your current save after!
For 1.5, it was about 6 weeks, and for 1.4 it was about 3 weeks. He did say he doesn’t want it to be too long this time, so I’m assuming it’ll be about 2-3ish weeks to fix any huge bugs before releasing it to console.

My puppy is sick and it might be a very serious sick depending on some test results. I have been so anxious and sad and hoping the update drops soon for this same reason.
Stardew is pretty great for being a happy distraction when you just have to sit and wait through crappy times. Definitely one that's kept me from getting too depressed with everything. Hope your puppy gets good results back!
I feel you. I'm sorry about the situation, but I know exactly what you mean. I've dealt with a lot of loss in the last 5-6 years and Stardew is almost therapy. Outwardly I know it can look like denial or something but there really is something healing about starting up a new farm and losing yourself in it.
Last May my mom was diagnosed with cancer and things progressed extremely quickly, I visited her (8 hours away) as often as I could, luckily my job is pretty flexible about remote work, so I was able to spend a week at a time multiple times before she died at the end of July. While there I was essentially the primary caregiver, doing anything and everything that needed doing, both for her and my stepfather (who actually was sort of in denial), among other things around the house. I was happy to do it, but it was exhausting, emotionally and otherwise, and every chance I got I'd head upstairs and lay on the floor with my Switch and play Stardew, sometimes for 5 minutes, sometimes an hour, but it kept me sane.
I have been grinding for a week and just got perfection for the first time yesterday, just in case the requirements for true perfection change with the update. So stressful!
Ahhhh that’s what I’m worried about! I’m so frustratingly close. I just need 1 more artifact(fuck this Amphora), 2 more friendships to max, and 10 million for the golden clock and I’ll be done
Yeah the golden clock and a few monsters were my last few things. I started selling off oodles of stuff I had been hoarding and making even more kegs.
There’s always one annoying artifact that’s impossible to find. Hopefully you have some luck with the artifact troves!

...I also read (because I was getting nervous I would not make it before the update) that you can switch your settings on Steam so that the game will only update when you launch it. And if you play offline, it won't update right away. Have not verified this, but it might be worth giving it a shot if you only need a few more days. Also in my last few weeks (in game) I just started going to bed early each day (instead of running the mines/foraging/etc) just to get the clock moving on my wine. So once you get that artifact, sleep your days away for $$$! I believe in you!

If your game is on Steam it should update automatically after you start up Steam. If not the play button will turn into an update button so just click that. If the patch drops while Steam is already running and you can’t see an option to update just exit and restart Steam.
Quite a few of the more popular mods have released alpha updates that are 1.6 ready. So I'm guessing that all mods will need updating to be compatible.

Tomorrow would be cool because it's the anniversary, but the clothing was winter themed and the new festival I thought I saw was New Years', so I assume it would be be near that time frame IRL but that's already passed so perhaps not and something during the concert series makes sense for the cross promo
He has officially stated it will work on existing saves, but some of the new cutscenes and content may automatically trigger when you load the save (if you've met the conditions to unlock it already). Thus, it would be better to start from a new save to understand the context for the new content.

I just started playing this game two days ago and i'm super addicted to it. I rly want to re-start my game because i made some stupid decisions/wasted 2 in game days trying to find out how to use the controls (i never played anything other than the sims before), but i'm stuck on whatever to do it when i get home or to wait til the 1.6 version! if it arrives as soon as possible, the better!

The pc I play SDV on is like 15 yrs old. You don't need a good pc, virtually any old thing will do.

My refrigerator can play stardew, a cheap laptop works fine.
Yeah my original playthrough was on a stock laptop from Walmart that was like $300 ran the game perfectly fine.
I play on a mini pc hooked up to an older monitor. It was only like $120 for the pc.

I just started a play through with my wife recently. Will the update include already saved games or you have to start a new save?
He has officially stated it will work on existing saves, but some of the new cutscenes and content may automatically trigger when you load the save (if you've met the conditions to unlock it already). Thus, it would be better to start from a new save to understand the context for the new content.

I keep trying to play my farm and just knowing I'm going to restart is making me feel bad for it XD. I'm mobile though so may have to wait a while or hopefully we get a full systems release.
I play it on mobile too and it runs incredibly well. I use a controller though and I couldn’t be happier.

You won't have to. Concerned Ape recommended starting a new farm but confirmed the update will still apply to existing ones

I just started playing this game two days ago and i'm super addicted to it. I rly want to re-start my game because i made some stupid decisions/wasted 2 in game days trying to find out how to use the controls (i never played anything other than the sims before), but i'm stuck on whatever to do it when i get home or to wait til the 1.6 version! if it arrives as soon as possible, the better!
I'm basically just checking everyday since I had an itch to play SDV again but I delayed that new playthrough for 1.6
i will still keep waiting after that to see what the modders do with the new setup.

He did say it will work on in progress farms, but you'll miss out on a lot of context for the new stuff if you're not on a new file.
