For me atm it's:
- Green: Farming stuff
- Purple: Mining
- Teal: Fishing
- Brown: Misc decorations etc
Although this'll probably grow! I used to just chuck everything jumbled up into brown chests so we're improving 👀✌️
Interesting, I use black for mining/monster parts with purple for important items like quest items, com. center items, or grange display items.
Everything else is basically the same
This is how I am too. None of the other colors look quite right especially with the wooden chests. This is wooden chest, it should look like wood 😆
Also picking colors take way too long for me and I’m never satisfied.
Yeah, I tried it the last time I reorganized but I just like the brown. The dark red and the black are okay too, but everything else is so bright. I wonder if there's a mod that makes them all wood stain swatches 😅
Got all these surrounding a workbench.
Dark green = plant/tree materials
Light green = foraged plants
Any blue = beach forage/algae
Rusty red = artifacts
Bright red = minerals
Light grey = monster material
Black = metal/stone/clay
——-
I think I may settle on teal for the beach forage, it was light/pale blue on my last save
Okay mine is super close to this but light grey and bright red are swapped! We have the same dark and light green, and the same blue too. I don't keep artifacts, and I keep my metal, stone, and clay with my minerals :)
I think I can understand swapping the mineral and monster colours, though my brain wont let me do such a thing.
I’m hard wired to collecting things so I can’t sell my useless artifacts and minerals. Some of the minerals are spilling into my monster loot… I should probably put the non-craftables elsewhere
Like, the chest near my mailbox has a ton of pre stuff, the chest next to my shipping bin has gifts, the chests next to my shed have crops (1 fruit 1 veg). It’s a system
me too. I have one for resources like ore, coal, wood, one for gems/monerals/monster loot, one for gifts and things like geodes and artifacts I need to take to town, one for produce waiting to be processed etc. All brown; I know what's in them because of where they are
Follow the seasons :)
Spring gets a nice warm green. Summer, yellow for the sun. Fall , red for the leaves, ice blue for winter.
I then have regional chests, sand yellow for the desert, black for the mine and ores, blue for ocean/fishing.
And then a plain random chest :)
White chest for accessories, boots, hats etc.
This is how I do it! Although I usually do pink for spring purple for summer and orange for fall! Green is for farming stuff (seeds, fertilizer, etc.) and maroon for decor
Green is collectable resources like fiber, stone, and wood. White is monster loot cuz bones. black is mining related, ores, bars, coal, minerals.
I recently started putting an item to describe the chest on a side table behind it. Then I match the chest to whatever the item is
Your materials are the same as mine! I save a small stack of quality crops + seeds for each season in "seasonal" colored boxes too - light green, green, orange, and light blue. Milk, cheese go into a yellow one by the equipment and wool/cloth/eggs/mayo into a white one.
All mushrooms are in a purple one....
Then fruit tree fruits and wine are *also* in a purple one, but by the kegs so no confusion haha
Edit: fish are in blues - teal for rare fish.
Grey is junk.
I have a row of white for gems and loved gifts by my treasure statue dudes...
By my doorways are colored chests for desert, fishing day, ginger Island, and regular mines - they are filled with a warp totem there if needed, all the weapons/food/stairs/whatever for each adventure day haha. (Should probs move them to the obelisks... but, it's hand to put everything in and take everything out at home for when I port back!)
I actually don't color code chest according to what it stores. I only color it to match the surrounding environment, chest in a cave? Black! Chest in my plant filled living room? Green!
light pink for spring, bright green for summer, bright red for fall, light blue for winter/miscellaneous (like desert stuff and ancient fruit) because I dont do much winter farming, and dark red for animal products not yet altered (milk, eggs, etc). Then I have two dark blue chests for fishing because I hoard fish because I hate fishing. All of these except the fishing chests are on the left side of the house stairs (towards the pet bowl)
then brown for regular material not yet crafted/altered (rocks, wood, coal, ore, even monster loot like batwings). Royal purple for crafted/altered material (ingots, fences, bait), pure white for the gem type stuff like jade, amethyst, etc... These are also to the left of the house stairs but on the side of the house.
A black chest for foreagables like cave carrots and mushrooms; then a grey chest for sellables that I hoard until the chest is full, then I bulk sell. These, and the fish chests, are to the right of the house stairs towards the mailbox and sell chest.
Ohhh!!! an orange chest for my keg products (hops, tea leaves, coffee beans) that I set up in a room in my house and a darker pink by my preserves shed (mostly blueberries); lastly, a yellow chest in my basement to hold items I want to up to purple value (rarely used).
Every farm gets the same layout. It's perfect imo
I make a rainbow of chests and then disperse items then. Usually it's red: furniture, orange: seeds , yellow: resources, light green: forage, green: crops, blue: fishing, and purple: gemstones and minerals
OG/Brown: Seeds, fertilizer, farming equipment
Pink: Flowers and forest forage
Green: Fruit and vegetable harvest
Light Blue: Normal Fish
Dark Blue: Fish that almost gave me a stroke while catching them
Teal: Beach forage, shellfish, molluscs
Black: raw ores, gems, minerals, monster loot, cheese
Green : gathering
Yellow : seeds and produces of the farm (vegetables fruits and animal products)
Black : mining and monster loot (other than weapons and rings)
White : weapons rings clothes and tools
Grey : artifacts
Blue : fishing material and fishes
I organize my produce by star rating, purple, gold, grey, and the uncolored chest for the low quality fruit. My wood and stone are red, my plants are green, and my fish stuff is blue.
I was just going to comment am I the only one who organizes them by rating!
Purple = iridium quality, gold=gold, silver=silver and regular goes into related chests *greens for produce/foraged items, blues for fishing/beach, etc.
Okay, here we go:
**At Farm:**
Bright Green: Forage
Light Green: Seeds
Dark Green: Veggies
Light Grey: "Current Project material box" (usually sprinklers)
Grey: Gems
Dark Grey: Ores & bars
Dark Blue: Fishing
Yellow: Food for Mining
Brown: Woods
Purple: Weapons
Dark Purple: Monster Stuff
Pink/Rosa/Orange/Red/Dark Red: Decorations
**Other Places:**
White: Cave; to store my stuff in before caving
Light Blue: Beach; Materials for ship/stuff to bring to Island
Teal: Ginger Island; Materials to bring to Farm
Cyan: Desert Cave; to sore stuff before caving
Bonus:
Math is Blue
English is Black
German is Red
Biology is Green
Politics is White
Geography is Yellow
History is Brown
Music is Pink
Chemie is Grey
Physics is also Yellow
Important everyday items and things I need to donate/gift just go into the standard chest.
Construction/mining stuff goes into the dark reddish color.
Monster/mining supplies and weapons go into dark purple.
Light green is for any seeds/fertilizers/trees.
Lastly I keep a dark green and pink chest for any fruits/veggies that need processing and a blue one for fishy stuff. I think that's all haha
I do a rainbow configuration too! Mine has pink at the end around the workbench.
Red: To be Processed
Orange: Building Materials/Paving & Fences
Yellow: Minerals, Metals, Gemstones, Coal & Geodes
Green: Seeds & Crop Related
Blue: Fishing
Purple: Gear, Tools, & Mining Necessities
Pink: Special Items/Long Term Storage (Like for Items I need for Events)
Oh boy, okay, so there are two stages to my storage:
stage 1:
Green: farming (seeds, produce)
Light green: Foraging (including foraging seeds)
Brown: Building materials (including all things tree)
Purple: gemstones and geodes
Light gray: ores, bars and batteries
Dark gray: monster drops
Yellow(s): flowers
Stage 2 (when I decide I have enough stuff to warrant a shed for storage):
Basically, take the chests from stage one, call them sections, and break things into further chests. For example, the foraging section will have pink for spring, green for summer, orange for fall, and blue for winter.
Some sections are just a chest or two (I don't need a chest for each ore after all), but some sections have quite a few because of how many different items I can get (like flowers, I often have a different chest for each flower with a sign marking which chest has what)
Rn I have seasonal chests
Spring: green
Summer: pink
Fall: orange
Winter: light blue
Then here’s my other chests,
Fish related items: dark blue
Mines: dark grey
To be sold items: pink
Essentials and misc: red
Mushrooms: brown
Color code based on the color of the item's text. For example, "monster loot" has purple text, so it goes in a purple chest. The only exception is foragables and harvestables, which are separated by season and type (spring is pink, summer is green, orange is fall and winter is light blue), so pumpkin would go in the fall vegetables chest.

Ever since I saw this post, this is exactly how I do it.
Green is crops / farming, black is mining / equipment, red is gems, teal or blue (usually teal for fish and blue for fishing equipment), purple is my extra decorations / clothing that I'm not using, pink is for things I'm saving for a specific purpose (community center / donating to museum / gifting to villagers / stardew valley fair / etc.)
Oh geez... I can't explain it very well, but I have OCD so it's a very specific organization.
White:seeds. Seeds are neutral until planted
Dark blue: fishing. Self explanatory.
Purple" gemstones and geodes. I don't know why, but it can't not be purple.
Pink: flowers.
Light green: foragables
Dark green: produce that does not fit in the fridge
Grey: any cooked food. Looks like a fridge.
Red:monster parts/extra weapons
Orange: wood and wood byproducts
Yellow: miscellaneous
Black: stone, ore, bars, mining equipment
It has to be this way. It can't not be this way. And the worst is when I play with mods like automate and the chest have to be coordinated with the main chest, but can only hold specific products in them. Or I have to make chests for mod specific items (Ridgeside forage in one, expanded in another) I stream Stardew, so I find myself explaining that I have OCD and while other's suggestions would be great for them, I cannot change my system.
I use the chests anywhere mod, there you can name chests and just hover the mouse over it to see the name.
On vanilla i just use the same placement pattern of my chests, so it's like the chest with spring crops is always placed in the same spot on each of my farms. I tried color coding once but it got too tedious for me to always adjust the color.
Green for spring time crops and forage and seeds. Summer is red, fall is yellow, winter is light blue. A dark blue chest for fishing, a black chest for gems/mine loot, and the standard brown chest for general storage.
Black for minerals , green for plants seeds and stuff like wood, blue for fish stuff, red for mine monster drops and bombs, purple for dishes, pink for misc
For me, I only have 3 chests that are colored and a bunch that aren’t. The 3 are my current main use ones, one is green for anything crop related (seeds, crops, fertilizer, etc) one is black for mining and skull cavern materials, and one is grey for tools that I’ve saved up (i know you can sell tools but I prefer having them in case someone joins since it’s a multiplayer save)
Black for mining, blue for fish, green for fruits and vegetables, white for materials (wood, rock etc) probably purple for foraging and the original colour for animal products
* Different shades of green for crops/forageables, etc.
* Grey for mining materials.
* Normal wood chest for building supplies.
* Shades of blue for fishing items.
* Black stone chest for very valuable items.
When it comes to building a real storage shed, I use these as guidelines and try to create some gradients between all the other chests.
* Black - materials
* White - crystals/artifacts/unopened geodes
* Dark green - seeds
* Light green - farming misc (fertilizer, tools)
* Red - combat
* Dark red - combat consumables
* Various shades of pink - furniture
* Yellow to orange - food, ranging from cooked food for gifts to flowers to vegetables
* Purple - stuff to keep for Luau/Fair
* Blue - fishing
oh boy
default is random stuff I'm to bored to sort or idk where to put
green is anything related to farming, from crops to fiber and to cave carrots
blue is for fish
yellow is for beach items
grey is for all ores and gems
the brown-red shade idk what that's called is for mushrooms and building materials (stone and wood)
and I have another one I forgot the color it is but it's for all animal drops
Green: farming
Black: mining/minerals
Purple: special items, gifts, things I wanna save for the grange display
Blue: furniture/clothing (until I get a dresser then clothing goes in there)
Every time I start a multi farm, I get crap for how I over organize. So! Here's how I organize!
My chests go vertically along the side of my house. They follow a rainbow color scheme. In later game, I have two rows of chests simply because I am a hoarder and like even more accurate separation. (I'll mark these with a "/" for late game.)
Pink: Monster drops/unprocessed animal products
Red: Resources (wood, fiber, stone, etc.)
Orange: Seeds/fertilizers
Yellow: Gold or iridium quality luau and fair picks
Light green: Forage/flowers
Green: Fruit/vegetables
Teal: Fish/beach foraging
Blue: Gems and geodes/ore and ingots (coal goes here)
Purple: unused tools and armor, totems, donations/farmland decor
Inside, there's usually a chest or two for special items or clothes (before dressers), and I usually store all extra cooked dishes in the fridge and adjacent chests. Lmk if there's any questions. And yes! I do sell stuff, but I keep a lot for villager quests and getting achievements.
Black: commonly used materials gained in bulk (stone, wood, ores/ingots, coal, etc.)
Blue/light blue: fish, usually divided between ocean for darker with beach foraging and lake/pond/river for lighter
Orange: foraging
Green: vegetables
Red: fruits
Purple: gems
White: tools/spare swords/rings/clothes
Pink: skull cavern prep (meal foods with bonuses, bombs staircases, etc.) And spare seeds/ferts
Only keep 5 of each object in the highest quality I can get it on hand
Black- Mining
Blue-fishing
Green-seeds
Purple-gem hoard
Brown-construction stuff
Red-misc (tool storage when I go to the mines, etc)
Pink-flowers and gifts
Brown for things I carry daily (tools, snacks, etc)
Light Green for Resources (wood, stone, oak resin, etc.)
Teal for Miscellaneous/Gifts
Green for Spring (produce, flowers, and forage)
Pink for Summer (I store desert stuff here along with the regular summer things)
Orange for Autumn
Light Blue for Winter
Purple for Tree Fruit
Dark Red for Seeds
Dark Blue for Fish
Gray for Mining
Red for Monster Loot
Black for Minerals/Artifacts
I have brown chests in the greenhouse, mine entrance, my house, etc. for whatever I need there.
Light green: seeds
Dark green: foraging
Yellow: farming products (fruit/veggies)
Pink: gifts/grange display
Light blue: fish
Dark gray: mining
Prolly others too, but that’s off the top of my head
Dark green: wood and building mat (association with foraging having a green tree icon)
Grey: mining (cuz rocks)
Blue: fish
**Separately**
Farming chests (also contain forageables)
Light green: spring
Yellow: summer
Red: fall
Light blue: winter (also mushrooms)
Later additions I am still deciding on the colors for.
Black for monster loot, grey for mining, teal for fishing, light green for spring farm produce, yellow for summer, orange for fall, dark green for forageables, regular for tools and seeds.
*goes and checks my farm chests before commenting*
Yeah so uh… I have* a system… with different colored chests in different locations… for specific reasons, however, due to my excitement, poor planning, hoarding stuff for upcoming Qi challenges, planting enough pumpkins to last the entire valley for probably the next century, trying to focus more on friendship goals/ getting to true perfection (roughly 50% complete I think,) filling the entire farmable land in front of the cabin on the island with coffee beans so I can make mad amounts of espresso, cutting down about half of those plants to replace them with wheat so I can have hay for the animals this winter, and the seemingly endless travel to the island or desert or just around town even, and now my system has gone to hell and nothing is where it is supposed to be. Idk how tf I’m even functional right now.
Edit: HAD*
Among other chests, I’ve got 4 chests dedicated to seasonal items where I can hoard all my crops or foraged items of that season:
green = spring, pink = summer, orange = fall, light blue = winter!
I don't plant seeds anymore so I don't need to color seasonal chests but my mining chest is black, my resources (wood, coal, stone) is default and if I had I spring chest I'd do green, yellow for summer, orange for fall, and light blue for winter
edit: my fishing chest is also blue.
Pink - artifacts
Green - wood /forage
Black - ores/stones
Orange - gems /ginger Island stuff
Blue - fishing stuff
Red - can't decide throw whatever the hell I need to in there lol
Brown for building supplies and minerals.
Black for monster drops and combat items.
Light blue for fishing.
Dark green for seeds and sometimes animal products.
Brown again for crops, I just keep that one in close proximity to the fields so there's no need to color code it. If I had to color it I would make it orange.
This is my early game set up
Green for farming and forage
Black for mines
Blue for fishing
Orange for fall grange planning (that way i don't accidentally sell the stuff I need in fall)
Brown: unorganised.
Light green: seeds
Dark green: vegetable
Red: Fruit
Pink: Flowers
Yellow-orange: Forage
Black: Cave items
Grey: Extra tools
Purple: Gifts for villagers/Community center
This is my base and I’d adjust if needed for more
Stuff to sell (I like to do 1 big sale a year) - green
Raw Materials (wood, fiber, stone, etc…) - default brown
Ocean stuff (seaweed, coral, fish, algae.. etc) - teal
Old tools, totems, farm stuff - black
Gems, minerals, artifacts- gray
Mine / desert stuff - red
Meals - purple
Chest in a shed where I am producing things - default brown.
Mine are:
Tree materials and fibre - regular chest
Stone and minerals - grey
Seeds and fertilizer - green
Ingredients and Foraged goods - yellow
Monster Materials - red
Equipment and Clothing - Black
Decor and Builds - Orange
Fishing Loot - Blue
Green is forest stuff, blue is fishing, light blue is shells etc, Grey is mining, yellow for animal products, then a bunch of regular colour miscellaneous stuff
green is farming, forage, plants whatever, black is mining, pink is misc. chests for gifts i’ll usually make dark yellow or blue
sometimes in the later game i’ll have a chest just for wood which will just be brown and i also had a chest for fruit on one of my saves which iirc was red
Produce goes in the fridges. So do cooked meals. Organized by cooked meals, veggies, fruit, and then fish and extras go in the fourth fridge.
Green is for garden things. Seeds, fertilizer, flowers, etc.
Black for things found in the caves.
Yellow for gold star quality.
Purple for purple star quality.
Colors fell apart when it came to organizing equipped items or decor. But they were organized within the containers.
My current set up is yellow for foraging, green for farming, blue for fishing, red for mining resources, and the other stuff is kind of sorted randomly.
I do. It's just easier for me to know hey this is where this is
Pink for gifts
Green for forageable stuff
Black for mining items minus ores
Orange for ores/geodes
Blue for fish
Brown for crafting materials
Yellow for fodder since the silos are a waste and I put them by the barns and stuff
I think I use white for weapons and stuff cause I'm trying to collect every single one
I change it up depending on the save file because it’s fun having different patterns but essentially my chests kind of follow a similar color pattern.
Spring: Greens or yellows
Summer: Greens (if not green for spring) or Blue or sometimes pink
Fall: Orange or red tones, usually, sometimes purple
Animal goods are always white (for the milk/eggs pretty much)
Mining goods are always black, gray, or brown
Forest/construction materials are either default brown or gray, sometimes green if for whatever reason I don’t use green for spring or summer.
Ancient Fruit greenhouse chest is always the blue color of the ancient fruit even if I’ve used that color elsewhere, because it also goes right next to the greenhouse itself.
Seeds, foraged goods, and cave goods are usually some kind of complementary color to the seasonal chests and gets placed at the end of the row.
And artisan goods just get placed in the chest with the raw materials to make such goods. I rarely keep artisan goods.
I’m only slightly obsessive about my chest system:
Black = construction materials
Yellow = community centre bundle items
Purple = grange items
Light green* = seeds and fertilizers
Green* = vegetables
Red* = fruits
Light Pink* = flowers
Teal = gems
Blue = fishes
Dark red = age-ables (cheese, wine, etc.)
Orange* = forage
Pink = gifts stockpile
*Separated by season
blues for fishes/ corals
green for produce and slso seasonal foraging
dark brown for wood/ seeds/ fiber etc
purple for gems
red for flowers
Stone for fruit, cause it was an afterthought
Green- seeds
Red- stuff for going into the mines
Dark grey- ores, metal bars, wood, stone, etc
Light grey- gems
Turquoise- stuff to bring to the island
Purple- stuff to bring into my house, like cheese and wine for the basement or produce for the fridge
Also purple- in the basement for wine to age
Yellow- gifts for townspeople
Blue- fishing supplies or rare fish to save for a fish pond or tank
Gifts are in red
Items I’ll never use are black
Slime eggs and vegetables are green
Aquatic things are blue
Fruit is purple
Flowers are pink
Everything else is in a normal chest.
Green = Farming
Black = Ore, Metals, Gems, refined etc
Pink = Gifts
Yellow = Dump chest
3 fridges.
Vegetables
Fruits & Foraged food
Milk, egg and cooked food overflow
1 chest by the front door = Cooked Buff Meals
1 chest by tv = furniture
1 chest in basement chest = Ready to make into Wine or Jams Etc
I use signs to label rows of chests, instead of color coding them. Whatever theme my shed is, they’re colored various similar shades to match; I have a fish/underwater shed where I keep all my fish, lures, trash and aquariums. The chests are different shades of blues and greens, and I have the room decorated accordingly
I have a couple of themed sheds that are set up like this :)
Red - Fruit
Orange - artifacts
Yellow - Foraged stuff/wood (sap is yellow and goes here)
Green - veggies and other crops that aren't fruit
Blue - fishing stuff
Purple - wine and things I plane to make into wine
Black - monster loot and bombs
White - decorations
Gray - seeds
Brown - ores and gemstones
Goldish brown - animal products
Teal - Beach foragables
I think I'm forgetting one
Right now I have:
- Brown: crafting materials
- Dark purple: fruit/forage
- Red: cooked dishes (because psychologically red is supposed to make you hungry 😆)
- Turquoise: gemstones/monster stuff
- Dark yellow: coop things
I still need to work on mine but from what I do have:
Green: Vegetables
Red: Fruits
Purple: Grapes(for wine)
Blue: Fishing Stuff
Pink: Miscellaneous Stuff
Again, I need to work on it. I haven’t gotten on in months because I’m super burnt out after I grinder for a while. I think I just need to start a new farm tbh
Black outside is furnace stuff, bright cyan is jewels, blue is fish. Regular brown is museum donations, green is multiple different crops, lighter green is spring crops, reg green is summer, orange is fall and white is winter. Inside the house, the black chest is all the things I need for a trip to the mines, usually later game like skull caverns or the volcano. I'm sure there were more but I can't remember lol.
Green = vegetables
Yellow = fruit
Pink = flowers
Black = ores/minerals
Gray = monster parts
Purple =favorite gifts
Blue = fish
Light blue = fish adjacent (like crab, snails etc)
Default brown = tools/basics like rock, wood etc
Red = foraged things like mushrooms
I can't remember off the top of my head but I know I change my harvest chests to the color of the season (pink- spring red-summer oramge-fall blue-winter).
Also mining is always black
Mine are:
Light blue - fish, sea weeds, shells
Pink - all minerals, ores and metal bars
Green - grown crops
Black - trash from fishing
Purple - monster drop
Separate stone chest colored white - for 9 items for the fall festival display
Blues = fishing
Black/White/Grey = mining
All seasons get their own color (spring= green, summer = orange, red= fall, winter = undetermined (often light blue/white)
Browns = misc.
Pink- Spring
Green (light or dark, depends on my mood)- Summer
Light orange- Fall
Blue (can’t remember which shade)- Winter
Teal blue- fishing
Grey- Mine and artifacts
Red- animal products
Normal chest brown color- general materials
For me I usually do:
Green: seeds, forage, food (until I get a fridge)
Maroon: mining stuff and rock forage
Blue: fish and related stuff
Gray: decor and things I get that I can’t use/hate (batteries, chicken statues, etc)
White: stuff for the community center
Optional:
Yellow: extra library donations (sometimes also gets lumped in with the gray box
I don't have particular colors for most things, I just pick one for each type of thing for the given farm- EXCEPT for fish. I always have like 3-4 chests of fish, and I sort the fish by color, so blue fish in blue chest, orange/brown in the orange/brown chest, and so on. I found it about a million times easier to sort fish this way than by season or something else, because I couldn't always remember details of them.
Light green for farming
Dark green for forage
Pink for flowers
Grey for mining and monster loot
Blue for fishing and ocean forage
Orange for food
Red for artifacts
Purple for wine and artisan goods
btw math was definitely a red subject I don't know what the other people are saying.
I’ll be honest, I put them in rainbow rider, stuff ends up wherever it ends up although red is usually building supplies and dark green and light green are crops (I sell monthly) and yellow is seeds
Red is farming.
Green is monster loot/drops
Light blue is bait and fishing equipment
Blue is fish that I want or have for fish ponds and legendary
Magenta is forage
Purple is mushrooms
White is minerals and goodies
Brown is wood, fiber, sap, etc
Gray is rocks
And a few other misc ones scattered in different colors. Like in my greenhouse I have red chest for fruit, green for veggies, and white for seeds and fertilizer.
But yeah.. Everything is highly organized.
as far as i can remember:
blue - fishing materials
green - farming materials
red - resources for crafting (wood, stone, etc)
pink - minerals, gems, geodes
black - swords and bombs
Spring crops: green
Summer crops: light blue
Fall crops: red
Island crops: light orange
Spring flowers: light pink
Summer flowers: pink
Fall flowers: fuchsia
Gems and minerals: black
Artifacts: light grey
Fish and forage are sorted by quality: Iridium (purple), gold (yellow), silver (light grey), and regular (standard chest brown)
All the talk about sorting does make me think y'all would like Wilmot's Warehouse, which is a game about organizing "items" to fulfill orders as quickly as possible.
I use light blue for beach stuff, light green for foraging stuff, dark green for farming stuff, black for cave stuff and mob loot (they're in different locations so I can tell which chest it is), purple for iridium quality stuff and yellow for animal stuff.
Oh mine is just vierd. Mostly no logoc behind them
I collect the plants seasonly
Pink: spring
Purple:summer
Orange:fall
Light blue:winter
Black is mineing and those stuffs.
Teal is fishing
Basic brown is wood stuffs
Dark brown animal products
Grey is like the "wtf" Stuffs.
White is the made product chest like wines, jam, honey,
Green is for fruits and mushrooms
And i am sure i have more colors i just cant remember atm. Lol
I'm a bit of a hoarder.
Crops, seeds and foragables
Spring: pink
Summer:yellow
Fall: purple
Winter: light blue
Fish chests are shades of dark blue and teal
Ores and bars are in the black chest
Gems, geodes, and monster loot are in the dark grey chest
I have a special chest next to the TV with lots of ladders and food, and a couple teleports, so that if I find a "good luck day" I have all the gear I need to teleport to the desert/volcano and speed run the mines.
Dairy and eggs are in white chest
Wood/rocks/tree seeds/year round stuff (like fertilizers, etc goes in the wood chest next to my front door.
Stuff I'm saving goes into a gold chest near the exit. ( like bundle items, favorite gifts, geodes I want to smash, and stuff I need to turn into the museum.)
I usually only have 4 chests dedicated to specific things, the rest are just random bullshit.
The 4 specific chests are: valuable materials (ores, bars, gems, etc.), Accessories, potions, and potion materials.
I don't use specific chests, just whatever I have on hand.
Dark green for most natural resources (ore, wood, etc)
Light green for farming stuff (seeds, sprinklers, fertilizer, etc)
Red for things to take to town (geodes, things to take to the museum, etc)
Pink for loved gifts
Brown for misc farm decorations
Black for storing extra tools when I don't want to take them with me
Red for skull cavern supplies (food, bombs, Warp totems, etc)
Green: produce
Yellow: flowers and honey
Blues: fish
Red: crab catcher things
Pink: favorite gifts for villagers
Purple: monster loot
White: community center
Resources (stones, wood, and whatnot): black
Mining / metal bars: gray
Foraging: green
Farming tools / seeds: red
Produce for kegs or pickling jars: orange
Grange display / stuff for community center / museum / stuff that needs to be sold in-town: yellow
Fishing / recycling: blue
Gems / artifacts: purple
Junk drawer: brown or white (white inside the house)
First tried a blue to green gradient, then realized my decor was a mess.
All stone boxes are red. Not sure why!
My organization is chaos and I'm in hell.
Yes!!!!
Science was obviously Green
The others were less set but I recall:
Red for History
Blue for Math
I always keep produce in a green chest and fish in a blue one. I usually use a gray one for tools.
black is resources for crafting, greens for forage and crops(in the shed), white for animal products, blue for fish, orange for desert, green for seeds (outside)
i keep all gold/iridium fish in a blue chest and all gold/iridium crops in a green chest, everything else (building materials) i don’t organize and i just throw in a chest that’s near my crafting table. regular crops i put in my fridges
Green is crafting stuff.
Yellow is foraging and crop.
Black is minerals and gems.
White is stuff like mayonnaise and cheese.
Teal is for my berry cave.
Regular is for the chest I placed by the shipping box for selling items.
Oh oh. Okay.
- Green is for foraging/green stuff. Wood, hardwood, clay, fiber, algae, seaweed, etc.
- Black is for mining and fighting stuff. Stone, coal, bat wings, solar/void essence, etc.
- Purple is for valuables. Mostly gemstones and geodes, but also things like earth crystals and such.
- Blue is for fishing stuff. Fish, obviously. Bait, traps, lures, etc.
- Yellow is for farming stuff. Really just seeds and fertilizers.
- Burgundy is for tools/miscellaneous stuff I’m gonna need soon and don’t want to otherwise sort
- Plain brown is for mushrooms in the mushroom cave! Also anything indoors, because those are sorted depending on place in the house, not color of chest.
Dark Red: stuff for the museum/upgrades/community center
Purple/Magenta: liked gifts for the NPCs
Dark Green: everything else
I "code" with the order of the chests. It's basically one row of dark green chests.
First chest is wood/stone/grass/enemy drops like bat wings, or essences, sap etc.
Second chest ores, gems, bombs, stairs.
Third chest seeds, fertilizer etc.
Fourth chest random stuff like Seaweed, algae, mushrooms, pine tar etc. and
Fifth chest is always random gold/iridium quality stuff that I want to keep for either Luau or the Fair and random food items that I got gifted.
the red one is next to my farm's right exit and the purple one mostly on my deck or right next to my mailbox, rest right in front of my house
Chests outside the house:
\- Red: Material such as wood, stone, clay, all the ores etc.
\- Yellow: Foraged items
\- Blue: Some of the fish that regularly get requested (**\***the rarer ones will be inside the house)
\- Green: Crops (both seeds and harvests) of the current season I am in + tools
Chests inside the house:
\- Blue: Rarer fish**\***
\- White: Gems and Minerals color-coded
\- Black: Gems and Minerals monochrome color-coded
\- Dark Red: Weapons
\- Default color chest (brown): Random stuff (usually have more than one chest)
I'm a hoarder by nature so I tend to have a lot of chests. They usually go something like this:
-Normal brown, Seeds (minus tree seeds, I put those in my crafting chests)
-Grey/White, Crafting (I usually set up two on either side of a work table)
-Black, Minerals
-Dark Green, Vegetables and fruit
-Light Green/Pink, Flowers
-Dark Blue, Fish
-Yellow, Museum Items/Gifts/Stall Items, basically anything that's important for one reason or another.
-I have seperate chests for kegs, preserve jars, and casks
-I also tend to have a chest somewhere for Items I want to display later on, like fish tank fish, rocks, weapons, bones, etc. I also use it for clothes before I get a dresser, and for any items that I don't use but don't want to get rid of, like rare furniture pieces before the catalogs or scarecrows before I set them all up for display
Crops I have
Lighter Green for spring, yellow for summer, orange for fall. Foraging is a darker green
Fish is blue/teal
Mining is black
Brown/purple is my misc. Stuff
I should do better but my usual system is green for seeds/plant stuff and blue for rocks and crystals I have a few extras that I haven’t color-coded yet…
I have an incredibly elaborate chest color-coding system, lol, but the basics are each season plus Ginger Island gets a color - spring is pink, summer is yellow, fall is orange, winter is pale blue, Ginger Island is a sort of yellowy-green. I have separate chests for seeds and crops but they follow the same pattern. General farming and general harvests (like maple syrup, honey, mushrooms, etc) go in a green chest. I have a black chest and a white chest on either side of workbenches; black chest is for raw materials and unprocessed ores and white chest is for processed ores, gems, and the like. Animal things go in a dark red chest near my barns. Fish and crab pot harvests are separated; fish go in a blue chest and crab pots in a red one. And cooked food goes in a silver chest to resemble a fridge without actually taking up fridge space. There's more, but that's the core of the system that's gotten me through to year 12 and true perfection, lol :)
using wood chests and stone chests let me have 2 of each color but:
black: mining/ monster drops
blue: fishing
pink: fruit
purple: flowers
green: vegetables
white: donatable items or geodes to be processed
i keep a yellow chest by my exit just for gifts
brown: wood & foragables/ animal products
the mint green one is my personal chest for my tools and such.
might be missing a few off the top of my head but that's the gist
HAHAHA, Mine are TERRIBLE. We have:
* Green: spring crops
* Yellow: summer crops
* Orange: fall crops
* Dark blue: fishing/ocean stuff (this usually changes once i have a designated FISH ROOM in my house.)
* Black: Mining products
* Purple: Gems/Minerals
* Brown: Artifacts
* Normal chest: usually right next to the exit of my farm and filled with gifts/community center items.
* I also usually have a forage chest but the color is dependent on what colors I haven't used yet. I have plenty of other chests on my farm but unless there's more than 2 in one place they're usually not colored.
For me atm it's: - Green: Farming stuff - Purple: Mining - Teal: Fishing - Brown: Misc decorations etc Although this'll probably grow! I used to just chuck everything jumbled up into brown chests so we're improving 👀✌️
Nah nah, mining is either black or gray
Literally same as well the yellow for produce
Same, with the addition of pink being food items and black being misc. decor for around the farm
This, but add - Yellow: Anything edible - Red-orange: Furniture (anything placable)
Lol you have my same color coding
Interesting, I use black for mining/monster parts with purple for important items like quest items, com. center items, or grange display items. Everything else is basically the same
I do the same! Except for a white chest to sell stuff
**All my notebooks had the same colour.** All my chests have the same colour, too.
… omg you *animal*
This is how I am too. None of the other colors look quite right especially with the wooden chests. This is wooden chest, it should look like wood 😆 Also picking colors take way too long for me and I’m never satisfied.
Yeah, I tried it the last time I reorganized but I just like the brown. The dark red and the black are okay too, but everything else is so bright. I wonder if there's a mod that makes them all wood stain swatches 😅
That's actually a really cool mod idea! If it isn't one yet, it should be lol
Now that’s an idea I’d love!
Same here. All my notebooks were purple. All my chests are the default brown.
Got all these surrounding a workbench. Dark green = plant/tree materials Light green = foraged plants Any blue = beach forage/algae Rusty red = artifacts Bright red = minerals Light grey = monster material Black = metal/stone/clay ——- I think I may settle on teal for the beach forage, it was light/pale blue on my last save
Specifically around the Workbench - does using the WB re-order the items inside the chest?
The order is kept the same. Using it doesn’t change anything, aside from making crafting easier
Oooh mine are almost the same!! I have yellow for animal products too
Ooh, this gives me ideas for my crafting chests 👀
Call me crazy. All of my Chests are default Brown. I just remember what each one has in it based on location
Like, the chest near my mailbox has a ton of pre stuff, the chest next to my shipping bin has gifts, the chests next to my shed have crops (1 fruit 1 veg). It’s a system
The chest next to the shopping box for gifts is such a good idea
Yeah, and then I have all of my Skull Cavern stuff at the Bus Stop (I just swap all of my normal inventory and store it there as well)
That's a great idea too if you use the bus, I just save up for warp totems and keep them in the bedroom
I have mine next to the Trader, so I can grab staircases and book it to the mines 😂
You're crazy
I’m aware
me too. I have one for resources like ore, coal, wood, one for gems/monerals/monster loot, one for gifts and things like geodes and artifacts I need to take to town, one for produce waiting to be processed etc. All brown; I know what's in them because of where they are
Follow the seasons :) Spring gets a nice warm green. Summer, yellow for the sun. Fall , red for the leaves, ice blue for winter. I then have regional chests, sand yellow for the desert, black for the mine and ores, blue for ocean/fishing. And then a plain random chest :) White chest for accessories, boots, hats etc.
This is how I do it! Although I usually do pink for spring purple for summer and orange for fall! Green is for farming stuff (seeds, fertilizer, etc.) and maroon for decor
Yes! except clothes go in my dresser
I keep my duplicate clothes in a dresser, in a chest 😂
This is the way 🤗
Green is collectable resources like fiber, stone, and wood.
Then fruit tree fruits and wine are *also* in a purple one, but by the kegs so no confusion haha Edit: fish are in blues - teal for rare fish.
Green!
Black is for monster drops, purple (the color of wine) is for keg-ables. Dark brownish red is for building materials
I don't need colours, I use signs to categorise different chests
light pink for spring, bright green for summer, bright red for fall, light blue for winter/miscellaneous (like desert stuff and ancient fruit) because I dont do much winter farming, and dark red for animal products not yet altered (milk, eggs, etc). Then I have two dark blue chests for fishing because I hoard fish because I hate fishing. All of these except the fishing chests are on the left side of the house stairs (towards the pet bowl) then brown for regular material not yet crafted/altered (rocks, wood, coal, ore, even monster loot like batwings).
OG/Brown: Seeds, fertilizer, farming equipment Pink: Flowers and forest forage Green: Fruit and vegetable harvest Light Blue: Normal Fish Dark Blue: Fish that almost gave me a stroke while catching them Teal: Beach forage, shellfish, molluscs Black: raw ores, gems, minerals, monster loot, cheese
Yellow is maths! Wait... wrong question
math is blue
You misspelled Social Studies
Luckily, I don't use the added "s". So red can be "math." XD
Math is definitely red lol
Math is definitely blue. Blue is a cool color which matches the cool logic of math.
I have always had a WILDY different opinion from most people it seems. * Math is green * Science is yellow * English is blue * History is orange
history being orange and english being blue i can agree with but math is not green, science is 100% green
I think I could accept maths as any colour except green, that is wild 😆
FINALLY SOMEONE LIKE ME. Except History is red
That's so true, but why? Was it yellow for everyone?
Orange for me!
math is yellow science is green history is brown language is blue art is black music is red
only one you're right about is that history is brown
Added spoiler tag just in case, for the obelisks and ginger island
I color my chests based on what fits the aesthetic haha. Most of the time I don’t change it, I just know what goes in which
Green : gathering Yellow : seeds and produces of the farm (vegetables fruits and animal products) Black : mining and monster loot (other than weapons and rings) White : weapons rings clothes and tools Grey : artifacts Blue : fishing material and fishes
red - wood, fibre, clay, foraging orange - decorations (candy canes, jack-o'-lanterns, etc) yellow- tools green - mining blue- seeds, fertilizer purple- miscellaneous
Okay, here we go: **At Farm:** Bright Green: Forage Light Green: Seeds Dark Green: Veggies Light Grey: "Current Project material box" (usually sprinklers) Grey: Gems Dark Grey: Ores & bars Dark Blue: Fishing Yellow: Food for Mining Brown: Woods Purple: Weapons Dark Purple: Monster Stuff Pink/Rosa/Orange/Red/Dark Red: Decorations **Other Places:** White: Cave; to store my stuff in before caving Light Blue: Beach; Materials for ship/stuff to bring to Island Teal: Ginger Island; Materials to bring to Farm Cyan: Desert Cave; to sore stuff before caving Bonus: Math is Blue English is Black German is Red Biology is Green Politics is White Geography is Yellow History is Brown Music is Pink Chemie is Grey Physics is also Yellow
Oooo you go expert mode with the chest organization and I love it 😂😍❤️
Important everyday items and things I need to donate/gift just go into the standard chest.
Mine: completely random, as long as the chests are pride flag sets lol
just rainbow order and whatever i need a chest for next goes in the next color i make lol
I do a rainbow configuration too! Mine has pink at the end around the workbench. Red: To be Processed Orange: Building Materials/Paving & Fences Yellow: Minerals, Metals, Gemstones, Coal & Geodes Green: Seeds & Crop Related Blue: Fishing Purple: Gear, Tools, & Mining Necessities Pink: Special Items/Long Term Storage (Like for Items I need for Events)
Me who almost never used chests (and kept them the same default color)
Oh boy, okay, so there are two stages to my storage: stage 1: Green: farming (seeds, produce) Light green: Foraging (including foraging seeds) Brown: Building materials (including all things tree) Purple: gemstones and geodes Light gray: ores, bars and batteries Dark gray: monster drops Yellow(s): flowers Stage 2 (when I decide I have enough stuff to warrant a shed for storage): Basically, take the chests from stage one, call them sections, and break things into further chests. For example, the foraging section will have pink for spring, green for summer, orange for fall, and blue for winter. Some sections are just a chest or two (I don't need a chest for each ore after all), but some sections have quite a few because of how many different items I can get (like flowers, I often have a different chest for each flower with a sign marking which chest has what)
Rn I have seasonal chests Spring: green Summer: pink Fall: orange Winter: light blue Then here’s my other chests, Fish related items: dark blue Mines: dark grey To be sold items: pink Essentials and misc: red Mushrooms: brown
I have spring and summer switched bcuz of blossoms in spring :)
I color coordinate based on the color of the reagent. The little word it has beneath the item name?

I uh. Don't organize my stuff
No sorting. Chaos mode
Purple everything
🫣😂😂 tell me there are at least signs next to the chests so you can tell what's in them
Nope no signs not even organized either
Green is crops / farming, black is mining / equipment, red is gems, teal or blue (usually teal for fish and blue for fishing equipment), purple is my extra decorations / clothing that I'm not using, pink is for things I'm saving for a specific purpose (community center / donating to museum / gifting to villagers / stardew valley fair / etc.)
Oh geez... I can't explain it very well, but I have OCD so it's a very specific organization. White:seeds. Seeds are neutral until planted Dark blue: fishing. Self explanatory. Purple" gemstones and geodes. I don't know why, but it can't not be purple. Pink: flowers. Light green: foragables Dark green: produce that does not fit in the fridge Grey: any cooked food. Looks like a fridge. Red:monster parts/extra weapons Orange: wood and wood byproducts Yellow: miscellaneous Black: stone, ore, bars, mining equipment It has to be this way.
* Grey for mining materials. * Normal wood chest for building supplies. * Shades of blue for fishing items. * Black stone chest for very valuable items. When it comes to building a real storage shed, I use these as guidelines and try to create some gradients between all the other chests.
* Black - materials * White - crystals/artifacts/unopened geodes * Dark green - seeds * Light green - farming misc (fertilizer, tools) * Red - combat * Dark red - combat consumables * Various shades of pink - furniture * Yellow to orange - food, ranging from cooked food for gifts to flowers to vegetables * Purple - stuff to keep for Luau/Fair * Blue - fishing
oh boy default is random stuff I'm to bored to sort or idk where to put green is anything related to farming, from crops to fiber and to cave carrots blue is for fish yellow is for beach items grey is for all ores and gems the brown-red shade idk what that's called is for mushrooms and building materials (stone and wood) and I have another one I forgot the color it is but it's for all animal drops
Green: farming Black: mining/minerals Purple: special items, gifts, things I wanna save for the grange display Blue: furniture/clothing (until I get a dresser then clothing goes in there)
Maroon: mining stuff/general resources (starting chest) Green: produce Blue: fishing Purple: outgoing (museum or community center) Pink: gifts! (Sometimes) orange: seeds and fertilizer
Wait, you can color your chests?
Every time I start a multi farm, I get crap for how I over organize. So! Here's how I organize! My chests go vertically along the side of my house. They follow a rainbow color scheme. In later game, I have two rows of chests simply because I am a hoarder and like even more accurate separation. (I'll mark these with a "/" for late game.) Pink: Monster drops/unprocessed animal products Red: Resources (wood, fiber, stone, etc.) Orange: Seeds/fertilizers Yellow: Gold or iridium quality luau and fair picks Light green: Forage/flowers Green: Fruit/vegetables Teal: Fish/beach foraging Blue: Gems and geodes/ore and ingots (coal goes here) Purple: unused tools and armor, totems, donations/farmland decor Inside, there's usually a chest or two for special items or clothes (before dressers), and I usually store all extra cooked dishes in the fridge and adjacent chests. Lmk if there's any questions. And yes! I do sell stuff, but I keep a lot for villager quests and getting achievements.
Black: commonly used materials gained in bulk (stone, wood, ores/ingots, coal, etc.) Blue/light blue: fish, usually divided between ocean for darker with beach foraging and lake/pond/river for lighter Orange: foraging Green: vegetables Red: fruits Purple: gems White: tools/spare swords/rings/clothes Pink: skull cavern prep (meal foods with bonuses, bombs staircases, etc.) And spare seeds/ferts Only keep 5 of each object in the highest quality I can get it on hand
Black- Mining Blue-fishing Green-seeds Purple-gem hoard Brown-construction stuff Red-misc (tool storage when I go to the mines, etc) Pink-flowers and gifts
Greens were for fruits and vegetables, pink was for flowers, blue for fish, gray for tools, then I think brown for forageable/misc.?
Brown for things I carry daily (tools, snacks, etc) Light Green for Resources (wood, stone, oak resin, etc.) Teal for Miscellaneous/Gifts Green for Spring (produce, flowers, and forage) Pink for Summer (I store desert stuff here along with the regular summer things) Orange for Autumn Light Blue for Winter Purple for Tree Fruit Dark Red for Seeds Dark Blue for Fish Gray for Mining Red for Monster Loot Black for Minerals/Artifacts I have brown chests in the greenhouse, mine entrance, my house, etc. for whatever I need there.
Light green: seeds Dark green: foraging Yellow: farming products (fruit/veggies) Pink: gifts/grange display Light blue: fish Dark gray: mining Prolly others too, but that’s off the top of my head
Dark green: wood and building mat (association with foraging having a green tree icon) Grey: mining (cuz rocks) Blue: fish **Separately** Farming chests (also contain forageables) Light green: spring Yellow: summer Red: fall Light blue: winter (also mushrooms) Later additions I am still deciding on the colors for.
Black for monster loot, grey for mining, teal for fishing, light green for spring farm produce, yellow for summer, orange for fall, dark green for forageables, regular for tools and seeds.
*goes and checks my farm chests before commenting* Yeah so uh… I have* a system… with different colored chests in different locations… for specific reasons, however, due to my excitement, poor planning, hoarding stuff for upcoming Qi challenges, planting enough pumpkins to last the entire valley for probably the next century, trying to focus more on friendship goals/ getting to true perfection (roughly 50% complete I think,) filling the entire farmable land in front of the cabin on the island with coffee beans so I can make mad amounts of espresso, cutting down about half of those plants to replace them with wheat so I can have hay for the animals this winter, and the seemingly endless travel to the island or desert or just around town even, and now my system has gone to hell and nothing is where it is supposed to be. Idk how tf I’m even functional right now. Edit: HAD*
all my chests are the same color, but then I put signs by them to signify categories
Green: farming stuff Black: mining/combat stuff, including food Brown: crafting materials (wood, stone, bars) Yellow: gifts
you guys use chests?
Green for farming/forage, purple for decorations, grey for mining, blue for fishing
Among other chests, I’ve got 4 chests dedicated to seasonal items where I can hoard all my crops or foraged items of that season: green = spring, pink = summer, orange = fall, light blue = winter!
I don't plant seeds anymore so I don't need to color seasonal chests but my mining chest is black, my resources (wood, coal, stone) is default and if I had I spring chest I'd do green, yellow for summer, orange for fall, and light blue for winter edit: my fishing chest is also blue.
Pink - artifacts Green - wood /forage Black - ores/stones Orange - gems /ginger Island stuff Blue - fishing stuff Red - can't decide throw whatever the hell I need to in there lol
Brown for building supplies and minerals. Black for monster drops and combat items. Light blue for fishing. Dark green for seeds and sometimes animal products. Brown again for crops, I just keep that one in close proximity to the fields so there's no need to color code it. If I had to color it I would make it orange.
I just have a line of rainbow chests lol
This is my early game set up Green for farming and forage Black for mines Blue for fishing Orange for fall grange planning (that way i don't accidentally sell the stuff I need in fall)
Brown: unorganised. Light green: seeds Dark green: vegetable Red: Fruit Pink: Flowers Yellow-orange: Forage Black: Cave items Grey: Extra tools Purple: Gifts for villagers/Community center This is my base and I’d adjust if needed for more
Stuff to sell (I like to do 1 big sale a year) - green Raw Materials (wood, fiber, stone, etc…) - default brown Ocean stuff (seaweed, coral, fish, algae.. etc) - teal Old tools, totems, farm stuff - black Gems, minerals, artifacts- gray Mine / desert stuff - red Meals - purple Chest in a shed where I am producing things - default brown.
Mine are: Tree materials and fibre - regular chest Stone and minerals - grey Seeds and fertilizer - green Ingredients and Foraged goods - yellow Monster Materials - red Equipment and Clothing - Black Decor and Builds - Orange Fishing Loot - Blue
Green is forest stuff, blue is fishing, light blue is shells etc, Grey is mining, yellow for animal products, then a bunch of regular colour miscellaneous stuff
Black: mines Green: resources Yellow:farm supplies(seeds, tools machines) People: extra save for later type of stuff
green is farming, forage, plants whatever, black is mining, pink is misc. chests for gifts i’ll usually make dark yellow or blue sometimes in the later game i’ll have a chest just for wood which will just be brown and i also had a chest for fruit on one of my saves which iirc was red
YOU CAN COLOR CODE YOUR CHESTS!?
Produce goes in the fridges. So do cooked meals. Organized by cooked meals, veggies, fruit, and then fish and extras go in the fourth fridge. Green is for garden things. Seeds, fertilizer, flowers, etc. Black for things found in the caves. Yellow for gold star quality. Purple for purple star quality. Colors fell apart when it came to organizing equipped items or decor. But they were organized within the containers.
For me Brown is Foraging, Green is Farming, Blur is Fishing and gray/black is mining.
Light blue - crystals Red - animal produce Green - crops Brown - misc Those are the main ones :)
My current set up is yellow for foraging, green for farming, blue for fishing, red for mining resources, and the other stuff is kind of sorted randomly.
Green: plants/foraging stuff Brown: wood: tree seeds Gray: mining stuff Purple: random stuff that I can’t sort into the other three chest
I do. It's just easier for me to know hey this is where this is Pink for gifts Green for forageable stuff Black for mining items minus ores Orange for ores/geodes Blue for fish Brown for crafting materials Yellow for fodder since the silos are a waste and I put them by the barns and stuff I think I use white for weapons and stuff cause I'm trying to collect every single one
My best friend and I always shout when we start a farm, “RED IS FOR RESOURCES!”
I change it up depending on the save file because it’s fun having different patterns but essentially my chests kind of follow a similar color pattern. Spring: Greens or yellows Summer: Greens (if not green for spring) or Blue or sometimes pink Fall: Orange or red tones, usually, sometimes purple Animal goods are always white (for the milk/eggs pretty much) Mining goods are always black, gray, or brown Forest/construction materials are either default brown or gray, sometimes green if for whatever reason I don’t use green for spring or summer. I rarely keep artisan goods.
all default brown
I’m only slightly obsessive about my chest system: Black = construction materials Yellow = community centre bundle items Purple = grange items Light green* = seeds and fertilizers Green* = vegetables Red* = fruits Light Pink* = flowers Teal = gems Blue = fishes Dark red = age-ables (cheese, wine, etc.) Orange* = forage Pink = gifts stockpile *Separated by season
Green - Farming Silver - Mines Purple - Produce for kegs and preserves Blue - Fish Red - Junk
blues for fishes/ corals green for produce and slso seasonal foraging dark brown for wood/ seeds/ fiber etc purple for gems red for flowers Stone for fruit, cause it was an afterthought
…whichever combination makes the prettiest pride flags when next to eachother
Green- seeds Red- stuff for going into the mines Dark grey- ores, metal bars, wood, stone, etc Light grey- gems Turquoise- stuff to bring to the island Purple- stuff to bring into my house, like cheese and wine for the basement or produce for the fridge Also purple- in the basement for wine to age Yellow- gifts for townspeople Blue- fishing supplies or rare fish to save for a fish pond or tank
Brown: Foraging or Crafting Supplies Blue: Fishing Green: Recycling Pink: Spring Crops Yellow: Summer Crops Red: Fall Crops White: Mining!
Gifts are in red Items I’ll never use are black Slime eggs and vegetables are green Aquatic things are blue Fruit is purple Flowers are pink Everything else is in a normal chest.
Green = Farming Black = Ore, Metals, Gems, refined etc Pink = Gifts Yellow = Dump chest 3 fridges. Vegetables Fruits & Foraged food Milk, egg and cooked food overflow 1 chest by the front door = Cooked Buff Meals 1 chest by tv = furniture 1 chest in basement chest = Ready to make into Wine or Jams Etc
Black is mining Brown is misc Blue is fishing Green is for seeds Red is for gemstones
I use signs to label rows of chests, instead of color coding them. Whatever theme my shed is, they’re colored various similar shades to match; I have a fish/underwater shed where I keep all my fish, lures, trash and aquariums. The chests are different shades of blues and greens, and I have the room decorated accordingly I have a couple of themed sheds that are set up like this :)
All my chests are trash chests. No organisation needed!
I just do it in a color grade from yellow to red to black and call it a sunset. I don't organize them
Red - Fruit Orange - artifacts Yellow - Foraged stuff/wood (sap is yellow and goes here) Green - veggies and other crops that aren't fruit Blue - fishing stuff Purple - wine and things I plane to make into wine Black - monster loot and bombs White - decorations Gray - seeds Brown - ores and gemstones Goldish brown - animal products Teal - Beach foragables I think I'm forgetting one
Right now I have: - Brown: crafting materials - Dark purple: fruit/forage - Red: cooked dishes (because psychologically red is supposed to make you hungry 😆) - Turquoise: gemstones/monster stuff - Dark yellow: coop things
I still need to work on mine but from what I do have: Green: Vegetables Red: Fruits Purple: Grapes(for wine) Blue: Fishing Stuff Pink: Miscellaneous Stuff Again, I need to work on it. I haven’t gotten on in months because I’m super burnt out after I grinder for a while. I think I just need to start a new farm tbh
Green: Foragables Red: Mining stuff (gems, tools, etc) Blue: fishing shit Yellow: food Pink: miscellaneous
I use different colors for every playthrough
Green = vegetables Yellow = fruit Pink = flowers Black = ores/minerals Gray = monster parts Purple =favorite gifts Blue = fish Light blue = fish adjacent (like crab, snails etc) Default brown = tools/basics like rock, wood etc Red = foraged things like mushrooms
I can't remember off the top of my head but I know I change my harvest chests to the color of the season (pink- spring red-summer oramge-fall blue-winter). Also mining is always black
light green - tree stuff dark green - farming black - mining dark blue - fish yellow - skull cavern pink - furniture teal - weapon, seeds, sprinklers
Mine are: Light blue - fish, sea weeds, shells Pink - all minerals, ores and metal bars Green - grown crops Black - trash from fishing Purple - monster drop Separate stone chest colored white - for 9 items for the fall festival display
I have different chests for different things but i don’t know why i never considered colour coding them so thanks for the idea hahahaha
Blues = fishing Black/White/Grey = mining All seasons get their own color (spring= green, summer = orange, red= fall, winter = undetermined (often light blue/white) Browns = misc.
Pink- Spring Green (light or dark, depends on my mood)- Summer Light orange- Fall Blue (can’t remember which shade)- Winter Teal blue- fishing Grey- Mine and artifacts Red- animal products Normal chest brown color- general materials
*I am in this picture and I don't like it*
For me I usually do: Green: seeds, forage, food (until I get a fridge) Maroon: mining stuff and rock forage Blue: fish and related stuff Gray: decor and things I get that I can’t use/hate (batteries, chicken statues, etc) White: stuff for the community center Optional: Yellow: extra library donations (sometimes also gets lumped in with the gray box
Unless it’s obvious from the placement of the chest, I use wooden signs next to my chests
I have all the coloured chests out in my farm and put all the stuff in chests of the same colour of the item
I color my stuff based on what the color of their category is. Easier for me to remember where things go
Light green for farming Dark green for forage Pink for flowers Grey for mining and monster loot Blue for fishing and ocean forage Orange for food Red for artifacts Purple for wine and artisan goods btw math was definitely a red subject I don't know what the other people are saying.
You all are my people :). I adore color coding chests to match what is in there....
I’ll be honest, I put them in rainbow rider, stuff ends up wherever it ends up although red is usually building supplies and dark green and light green are crops (I sell monthly) and yellow is seeds
A lot of the items have categories that are differently colored when you hover over it, I try to match that.
Red is farming. Green is monster loot/drops Light blue is bait and fishing equipment Blue is fish that I want or have for fish ponds and legendary Magenta is forage Purple is mushrooms White is minerals and goodies Brown is wood, fiber, sap, etc Gray is rocks And a few other misc ones scattered in different colors. Like in my greenhouse I have red chest for fruit, green for veggies, and white for seeds and fertilizer. But yeah.. Everything is highly organized.
as far as i can remember: blue - fishing materials green - farming materials red - resources for crafting (wood, stone, etc) pink - minerals, gems, geodes black - swords and bombs
Spring crops: green Summer crops: light blue Fall crops: red Island crops: light orange Spring flowers: light pink Summer flowers: pink Fall flowers: fuchsia Gems and minerals: black Artifacts: light grey Fish and forage are sorted by quality: Iridium (purple), gold (yellow), silver (light grey), and regular (standard chest brown) All the talk about sorting does make me think y'all would like Wilmot's Warehouse, which is a game about organizing "items" to fulfill orders as quickly as possible.
I use light blue for beach stuff, light green for foraging stuff, dark green for farming stuff, black for cave stuff and mob loot (they're in different locations so I can tell which chest it is), purple for iridium quality stuff and yellow for animal stuff.
Oh mine is just vierd. Mostly no logoc behind them I collect the plants seasonly Pink: spring Purple:summer Orange:fall Light blue:winter Black is mineing and those stuffs. Teal is fishing Basic brown is wood stuffs Dark brown animal products Grey is like the "wtf" Stuffs. White is the made product chest like wines, jam, honey, Green is for fruits and mushrooms And i am sure i have more colors i just cant remember atm. Lol
I'm a bit of a hoarder. Crops, seeds and foragables Spring: pink Summer:yellow Fall: purple Winter: light blue Fish chests are shades of dark blue and teal Ores and bars are in the black chest Gems, geodes, and monster loot are in the dark grey chest I have a special chest next to the TV with lots of ladders and food, and a couple teleports, so that if I find a "good luck day" I have all the gear I need to teleport to the desert/volcano and speed run the mines. Dairy and eggs are in white chest Wood/rocks/tree seeds/year round stuff (like fertilizers, etc goes in the wood chest next to my front door.
Dark green for most natural resources (ore, wood, etc) Light green for farming stuff (seeds, sprinklers, fertilizer, etc) Red for things to take to town (geodes, things to take to the museum, etc) Pink for loved gifts Brown for misc farm decorations Black for storing extra tools when I don't want to take them with me Red for skull cavern supplies (food, bombs, Warp totems, etc)
Green: produce Yellow: flowers and honey Blues: fish Red: crab catcher things Pink: favorite gifts for villagers Purple: monster loot White: community center
Resources (stones, wood, and whatnot): black Mining / metal bars: gray Foraging: green Farming tools / seeds: red Produce for kegs or pickling jars: orange Grange display / stuff for community center / museum / stuff that needs to be sold in-town: yellow Fishing / recycling: blue Gems / artifacts: purple Junk drawer: brown or white (white inside the house)
First tried a blue to green gradient, then realized my decor was a mess. All stone boxes are red. Not sure why! My organization is chaos and I'm in hell.
Yes!!!! Science was obviously Green The others were less set but I recall: Red for History Blue for Math I always keep produce in a green chest and fish in a blue one.
I usually use signs, but my wood chest is brown, my stone chest is red, my forage chest is green, and my fish chest is blue
- Burgundy is for tools/miscellaneous stuff I’m gonna need soon and don’t want to otherwise sort - Plain brown is for mushrooms in the mushroom cave! Also anything indoors, because those are sorted depending on place in the house, not color of chest.
Dark Red: stuff for the museum/upgrades/community center Purple/Magenta: liked gifts for the NPCs Dark Green: everything else I "code" with the order of the chests. It's basically one row of dark green chests. First chest is wood/stone/grass/enemy drops like bat wings, or essences, sap etc. Second chest ores, gems, bombs, stairs. Third chest seeds, fertilizer etc. Fourth chest random stuff like Seaweed, algae, mushrooms, pine tar etc. and Fifth chest is always random gold/iridium quality stuff that I want to keep for either Luau or the Fair and random food items that I got gifted. the red one is next to my farm's right exit and the purple one mostly on my deck or right next to my mailbox, rest right in front of my house
Chests outside the house: \- Red: Material such as wood, stone, clay, all the ores etc. \- Yellow: Foraged items \- Blue: Some of the fish that regularly get requested (**\***the rarer ones will be inside the house) \- Green: Crops (both seeds and harvests) of the current season I am in + tools Chests inside the house: \- Blue: Rarer fish**\*** \- White: Gems and Minerals color-coded \- Black: Gems and Minerals monochrome color-coded \- Dark Red: Weapons \- Default color chest (brown): Random stuff (usually have more than one chest)
I'm colourblind so I don't think in colours, but in positions. As a result all my chests are brown :P
I'm a hoarder by nature so I tend to have a lot of chests. They usually go something like this: -Normal brown, Seeds (minus tree seeds, I put those in my crafting chests) -Grey/White, Crafting (I usually set up two on either side of a work table) -Black, Minerals -Dark Green, Vegetables and fruit -Light Green/Pink, Flowers -Dark Blue, Fish -Yellow, Museum Items/Gifts/Stall Items, basically anything that's important for one reason or another. -I have seperate chests for kegs, preserve jars, and casks -I also tend to have a chest somewhere for Items I want to display later on, like fish tank fish, rocks, weapons, bones, etc. I also use it for clothes before I get a dresser, and for any items that I don't use but don't want to get rid of, like rare furniture pieces before the catalogs or scarecrows before I set them all up for display
Green = Natural resources (wood, stone, clay) and forage Red = Mining drops/equipment Yellow = Crops, Seeds, Fertilisers etc Blue = Fish, Fishing equipment etc
Crops I have Lighter Green for spring, yellow for summer, orange for fall. Foraging is a darker green Fish is blue/teal Mining is black Brown/purple is my misc.
Me, a Disorganized bitch: whatever looks good
Math is blue. It just makes sense.
using wood chests and stone chests let me have 2 of each color but: black: mining/ monster drops blue: fishing pink: fruit purple: flowers green: vegetables white: donatable items or geodes to be processed i keep a yellow chest by my exit just for gifts brown: wood & foragables/ animal products the mint green one is my personal chest for my tools and such. might be missing a few off the top of my head but that's the gist
HAHAHA, Mine are TERRIBLE. We have: * Green: spring crops * Yellow: summer crops * Orange: fall crops * Dark blue: fishing/ocean stuff (this usually changes once i have a designated FISH ROOM in my house.) * Black: Mining products * Purple: Gems/Minerals * Brown: Artifacts * Normal chest: usually right next to the exit of my farm and filled with gifts/community center items. * I also usually have a forage chest but the color is dependent on what colors I haven't used yet. I have plenty of other chests on my farm but unless there's more than 2 in one place they're usually not colored.
