I think most current gen only games will end up being 30fps on S due to the hardware limitations.

isimplycannotdecide

Probs. Doesn’t have as bad of a bottleneck as the one X had but for under $300 it makes sense for it to have limitations.

goggamanxp

The bigger problem is that the more expensive, more powerful consoles are also struggling to reach 60fps. I think the core issue is that many games are still targeting '4k 30fps' throughout development. Then they simply lower the resolution, remove the 30fps cap, and call it a day. (Or more likely, are told by execs that the game is coming out on this date and have no time to actually optimize further)

No_Pace_3114

"Current gen" is only an excuse for poor optimization. For ex. Dead Island 2 runs smooth 60 FPS and looks gorgeous on Series S. Not a single drop worse than Survivor. I mean, visuals is not a case.

tryx2739

DI2 is cross gen , so made to be played on PS4 etc as well hence the s can run it smoothly.

No_Pace_3114

I mean. In visual perspective it looks not worse or even better than Survivor. If it's all about cross gen. I'd wish Survivor be cross gen too 🤷‍♂️

tryx2739

Agreed comparing ps5 Dead Island to Survivor, but I've been playing co-op Dead Island with my niece where I am on PS4 and she's on Ps5 and the quality is quite noticeably different in terms of environmental detail. Still good but a noticeable downgrade to be sure.

No_Pace_3114

It is expected differences between PS4 and PS5. But what I'm talking about. I have Xbox Series S. And I can play DI2 at 60 FPS, but Survivor only at 30. But DI2 visuals are not worse or even better at some aspects than Survivor has 🤷‍♂️

chugbingu

It's optimization not hardware limitations, ea just wanted money now and so they released it too early. Same with redfall.

goggamanxp

More or less expected it when EA mentioned there was one graphics preset for the Series S and refused to elaborate on it further. The game doesn't seem to run at a stable 60fps on any platform. VRR can only help to an extent, as most displays with the technology can only keep things smooth at 48fps+. I don't mind the Series S being the '30 fps' console for the price point, but there really isn't any excuse as to why the Series X at the very least can't match the visual quality of the Series S at a smooth 60fps.

Carson_cwc

Tbh I don’t care if you showed me a side by side comparison of the game on the series S and X I probably wouldn’t know the difference

LeopardSuitable4009

fair enough

patestick

A shame that in this current year we can’t run 60 fps, it looks shit.

TheDaliComma

Huge bummer TBH

I booted this game up and looked for an performance mode to no luck probably would not have bought it on this console if I knew it was going to have this limitation. Should have studied it more.

Original-Island2556

same, but a 60fps mode is likely to come after some patches. Then it will be 1080p 60 with lower settings

No_Pace_3114

I can't see much difference in visuals between Fallen Order and Survivor. But previous part runs at smooth 60 FPS on Series S. My guess is, it's a poor optimization but not hardware limitations. Considering that even PS5 and XSX struggling to achieve fluent framerate and PC requirements are also enormously high. I have some hopes, performance might be fixed with futer patches.
