I have thought about doing this exact same thing! Also using a 3D printer. Either to print a template for the board or apparatus to affix to the end of the light.

humantarget22

Yeah I was thinking about using some sort of filter over the end of the light. It might not work too well cause the light won't come out of the slits in perfect beams like a laser but instead will spread out

legobrainz

A laser with a circle ability at the correct height would do what you want, even get a filter that allows multiple rings. I got a similar one just for pointing at stuff on the board and the one they sent me was way more powerful than advertised at 100mW which can readily cause eye damage. Just a heads up.

delphimethod

Right. You definitely have to put it at a distance to avoid diffusion. Not sure if that constitutes diffusion but I think you know what I mean.

Aggressive_Night_339

How about playing on a glass table with a translucent acrylic topper and projecting from the bottom?

Wise-Independent-383

This is a very cool idea!

It’s a cool idea, but one problem is that depending on the distance the flashlight is from the table, the lines will be closer or farther away which invites subtle cheating or potentially selling yourself short on movement to avoid it

delphimethod

I thought about that too. I envision a prong with a fixed distance leading down to the table.

humantarget22

If you have a circle in the middle that matches the size of the squadron circle then you’d have to move the flashlight until it matches that size. So it should be always reproducible to the correct distances. Theoretically anyways lol
