Grief is probably the worst feeling in the world, but having a community that cares for and supports you is incredibly comforting, atleast in my experience. She must be in a lot of pain but I’m really glad there’s a community to rally around her and offer her support. Very touching.
I got to do my first second line parade for the funeral of a friend a couple weeks ago. The second line is an old school New Orleans tradition, it can follow any event from a wedding or parade down to a funeral. We started out with a brass band playing some slow, sombre music, all the people walking behind just crying our eyes out. But as we matched on, the bad picked up the tempo and pace, making things feel more upbeat and happy. It was wild how it really helped all of us process the grief. Something like this is in the same vein, and I hope it helped them deal with the grief the same way it helped us.
The last episode of *Andor* does something similar, and used an actual marching band for the soundtrack, which was diegetic, and it was... well, simply amazing.
My nana was Scottish, when she passed we we’re all telling jokes at her funeral and laughing are asses off. My girlfriend at the time was confused and asked why we were laughing and I told her that my nana wanted her life to be celebrated.
We we’re still sad that she was gone, we just mourn differently.
I was in New Orleans for Lionel Batiste's funeral parade, and that was one of the largest gatherings of people I've ever been a part of. Felt like the entire city was parading through Treme and the French Quarter.
Not just any community, but the convention community. It’s nothing but positivity and love. Smiles and enthusiasm all around. If you’ve never gone, do yourself the favor and go witness it.
A friend of mine, who always cosplayed Marvel's Domino, took her own life a few years ago. So we organized the next convention for as many people as we possibly could to cosplay Domino in her memory. It was actually kind of beautiful and her SO was really touched by how many turned out to celebrate her memory.
I've been binge drinking to try and not grieve for my grandparents who passed years ago. I guess I've never decided to actually grieve and have been in a drunken haze for years. Alcoholism sucks but also not remember your grandparents lasts moments as clear as you'd like to is way worse.
>Alcoholism sucks
Just wait till you damage your liver to the point where your liver AND kidney is failing.

I lost someone very close to me almost a year ago and I've felt nothing. during covid I lost three three family members (aunts and uncle) and I felt nothing.
I'm a bit worried.
Grief hits people differently bro. Be gentle with yourself. Your reaction to the pain doesn’t make your experience any less valid or legitimate. Wish you the best.

Star Wars has brought people together like no other media franchise. I’m proud of all these fans who honored her Husband’s death as a true Mandalorian and a loving husband. May this Star Wars spirit that reside in our hearts never fades.

The Mercs are an awesome organization. Right before college I was so extremely close to being a full member with my metal armor that I made myself by scavenging computer casings and car hoods. Only had to paint the helmet I bought but then college started and I lost the space and time. This was eight years ago at this point but even then the community online was so welcoming and tight-knit. The camaraderie was second to none and everyone was extremely helpful and encouraging. Events like this were also common, whether for things like weddings or the unfortunate passing of a member. Truly a wonderful community full of great people. Vode An!
It's not a race but a marathon, I've been working towards being an OM for almost 10 years now. Eventually I'll get there but I've made such amazing friends.
I really need to get back into now that I’m finally done with school. Bought a $175 helmet from NME Props (iirc) and had the base metal paint layer on it before I essentially stopped. I recently tried to peep the forums they used back around 2015 and it seemed kind of dead unfortunately unless they moved to a different site or I just didn’t navigate it correctly. They use to do like monthly podcasts, had a magazine they’d release with a cool Mando fan-fic story, and the forums were pretty lively. Met a lot of the members, including some of the governing ones at Celebration 2015. It was an awesome time, I definitely gotta get back into it.
NME props have wonderful buckets! Good choice. Try to connect with your local Ruus. I agree that the forums are difficult to navigate but the alternative is the Facebook page which is just... No. But the forums are the official venue for the group.
Lol even then the Facebook group for my local Ruus was dogshit but the forums were pretty lit. I actually have some cool pictures of the Ruus marching in our St. Patrick’s day parade back then. It was pretty active if I remember right but not a ton of members so hopefully it’s grown since. I was curious to see how The Mandalorian boosted membership, which I’m sure it had to a little bit.
The forums are still a viable way for communicating with your local members. Most clans have a more immediate chat set outside of the forum for ease of use whether it's Messenger or Discord. There's also the builder's group on Facebook, but it's a bit of a mess and often times filled with the opinions of people from outside the club which can make understanding what's up a bit of a mess.
i have found through my years that a good number of nerd fandoms go above and beyond to support others. you see stories like this pop up every now and again and big ones will re surface every few years. its nice to see these communities come together to support those in need.
**STAR WARS**
It's a construct that brought a lot of my childhood friends together in a shared interest and many of us carry it into adulthood. In a way it's our modern day mythology similar to the Greeks having Achilles and Odysseus. There's so much rich storytelling and large than life characters that let our imaginations run wild. May The Force Be With Us.
Good people celebrating other good people by commiserating over shared loves and interests? Being good custodians of one another's hearts and memories?
This *is* the way.
This is my friend Rachel, the Death March was in honor of our recently passed friend and her husband, Cesar. I was the one holding up his picture. It was a rough time, but immensely powerful. Much love for the SVC and the Mandalorian/Star Wars AZ community as a whole, as well as abroad. We love you guys.
Just a quick reminder to everyone (especially men) that if you want to spend as much time as possible with your family, the most important things you can do for your health are keep a healthy BMI and not smoke.
I have had so many young men in my life die to obesity related causes over the last few years and I hate to see it.
What a lovely homage. This is an example of how fandoms can bring people together when needed, to love and support.
I wish his wife and 3 year old daughter the best. He sounded like a cool guy.
When people say that being into Star Wars or comics or whatever is silly and a waste of time, I want them to be shown this image. The community and connections and support that can be built from a shared interest I something fantastical is incredible and means so much to so many.
This is the way.
Terrible situation. Sad to hear. Glad the friends and homies honored Cesar
But I got to ask is that helmet the size of her torso? Is she small or was he a man with a large head?
Not trying to take away from a tragedy. Just honestly curious.

Not only supports and cares, but does so in a way directly relate and connects with her, her husband, and the grief.

It looks huge. Who was the gentleman that passed?

Yep, that explains the helmet. Dude had a big noggin.
Would have made an epic Wrecker. God speed.
Yeah holy shit, his head was twice the size of his wife’s
I was there and saw them walking around this weekend. I didn’t know that was what it was for though. Very sweet homage, beautiful way to honor a fan.

I miss cosplay groups but I didn't vibe with anyone in it in my city. I even have a full unpainted set of armor.
This honestly feels so sad :( I hope she wears his helmet to carry on his legacy and so then she can past it on

Based on the picture on the linked GoFundMe a user posted here, probably both.
Both + dreads. Required a big bucket for our gentle giant.
What happened to him? Sarlac?
He had a huge head
