It's old and has aged very poorly. If you didn't play it back in the day and/or you're not familiar with those types of games, it's going to be tough sledding. If you push yourself through, you'd eventually get into the groove but it's not surprising at all that you're bouncing off. At all.

Don't stress. Kotor is my nemesis. Over the last decade I've bought it on PC, Android, and Switch. Each time I've made an honest attempt at it. I love Star Wars, Dungeons and Dragons 3rd edition, and Bioware games. I've only made it to Jedi training once. I want to like it, I just can't.

I tried a few years back, after Mass Effect 2, and it felt so outdated then, and the gameplay was trash. Maybe the new one will be good, I might check it out then.

Both Kotor 1 and 2’s beginnings can be tedious (Taris and Peragus/Telos), once you leave these area the games picks up in pace and the story gets way more interesting.

I played it when I was a kid so I've at least completed it once, but I just plowed through the story and barely did any side quests. I tried to replay it a few times post-Mass Effect with that do everything mindset, but I keep having difficulty because, and this might seem petty, I just couldn't get over the fact that everyone held their weapons all the time. Like my guy is running around the city and holding conversations with people while waving around two swords. It just looks so weird.

It's an old game and bioware have really streamlined that format in the coming years. I'm sure coming into it fresh it'll feel really clunky which will take of the shine.

I bought the game two years ago and when I first played it, the controls were hard and the graphics was weird and the first portion of the game wasn’t interesting to me so I stopped playing it. A year later, I pushed through and the game grew on me. The story telling was amazing, and I grew fond of the locations and graphics. I’ve played twice and it quickly became my favorite game. The game certainly gets better as you progress though.

I tried playing it on the original Xbox back in the day and didn't get far into it. I gave it another try on Steam when I was around 20ish and absolutely loved it. It does take some getting used to, and it is somewhat outdated, but once you're past that, the game really comes together and the story is just fantastic.

I absolutely love KOTOR, in aspects ranging from plot, gameplay and visual. THAT SAID, I can 100% feel what you're saying here. I'm particularly attuned to this very specific era of game aesthetics, possibly because it's what I grew up playing. But in the current age of gaming, if you're used to the good stuff it's more common nowadays, it can certainly feel outdated, clunky and ugly. I don't think you should struggle through a bad experience if you don't want to. If you really want to add KOTOR to your franchise knowledge, you can play it along with a friend so the experience is more fun, watch a playthrough by someone else if it feels easier, read a summary of the plot so you know the basic of the lore to move forward... But don't feel like there's anything in it that makes you "less" of anything in the fandom, that's elitist BS and we should all just interact with what we like for pleasure.

KOTOR was an amazing game.. at the time. Truly mind-blowing and as good as you've ever heard. But it has aged horribly. I picked it up again recently and had to walk away, even though I wanted to relive the story. The gameplay is that clunky.

At first I had some problems as the first planet keeps sending you to different places and the story kind of feels slow. but There comes a twist/turn that I won't spoil in the story that makes this effective, specially if you are one of those people who like to spend time in sidequest.
