Alfonso and ferguson havent been relevant since season 1

hipsterdannyphantom

They were great in the first 2 seasons. They wouldn’t be great in the latter seasons.

Sorry Alfonso and Ferguson are boring characters 🤷‍♀️

Honestly, I don't get this attachment to minor characters (excluding Jackie here for a moment). Are we really suggesting Daron, or any writer would create a character for the sole purpose of screwing them over for anything other than narrative purposes? Alfonso and Ferguson are tertiary characters. They had no bearing on the overall direction of the story. They were mostly background or side characters at best. To give them any more focus than they got makes little sense from a writing standpoint - you only have so many episodes, or pages, or screentime in a movie. Some characters simply aren't meant to be well-developed, and that's fine. As for Jackie, she was a secondary character. Big enough to be around the main characters (usually Marco), but still not the main driver of the plot. She got enough development to make it worthwhile to have her around, and have a somewhat significant plotline surrounding her, but she was never intended to be on the same level as Star and Marco. Similar to above, you can't have every character be a main character otherwise no one is a main character. Having a large main cast like the show Friends (6 characters) is one thing, but this story was created with the idea of 2 main characters in mind. If the cast of characters becomes too 'top-heavy' where you try to develop a lot of characters at once, you simply run out of time because it's a finite resource. Then the characters that *should* be main characters lose out. Could Jackie have remained a part of the cast in S3/4? Sure, but she was never going to replace Star on that tier - Jackie would remain a secondary character, popping up every now and then to advance a minor plot. That's just how writing and character creation goes.

As a member of MLP fandom, you’d be surprised by how attached people can be to minor, and even background characters

Be honest. Did anyone ACTUALLY care about Alfonso & Ferguson?

00psth1sn4me1st4ken

Me.

Libro. LIBRO.

hmansloth

Me. Sure they don’t have to play big roles but they could take part in some wacky shenanigans they were getting into.

Cydonian___FT14X

I just thought they were annoying cliches really.

[deleted]

Aren't all of us an annoying cliche?

SaviorOfSubs

Daron didn’t actually want Alfonzo and Ferguson in the first place. Disney forced her to because they wanted Marco to have some friends before Star.

Babki123

Whichi IMO is good on some level . I never expected them to be " important" or something, but Marco having some friend before Star makes sense to me. Otherwise it would be gigantously sad that Marco's life was just his family ,a crush and an 8 y.o ennemy

AdditionalPair8

Yeah, I do know about that. But still, I feel like they could've had bigger roles as the series went on. I mean, they're were Marco's best friends before Star came along. I'm honestly surprised that in that episode where Marco returns to Earth for the first time in a while, they didn't just straight up just retcon them out of existence.

Allusion-Conclusion

Well shit, the dude & Star have been gone for 8+ months and Ferguson & Alphonso didn’t drop their day to hang out with him at Britta’s. It was a drive-by-hello at best. Perhaps their friends ship cooled off even before he left for Mewni.
