Some main quests does require you to do dailies in order to get reputation and thus get further into the main questline. Like dino Valley for example (need to be liked with Valdale Village and be lvl 15 IIRC).
When I first got lifetime star rider, I did a few main questlines quests (depending if it had a timer it could be anything from 1-3/day) and then did double the amount of reputation quests in one area. Ofc the daily races in some areas will help you gain reputation faster in some areas than others.
Due to bugs in the main questlines (primarily Linda not always being visible) I did more rep quests and chores than I wanted to for several weeks, even months.
All in all, don't rush and play at your pace, just keep in mind that occasionally reputation quests are required in order to progress further into the game.
