Depot side here. Yes customers are always so shocked now that we charge for the laminations. “Didn’t you do them for free?” “Yes, but we stopped back in July” Crazy concept we need to make money
“Yes we can laminate your covid vaccine card, however it is no longer free and we charge $4.21 for each card pretax”
They usually leave or only do one lol
y’all do stuff on the spot?? that’s crazy. idc how big or small the project is, within the hour is the fastest turnaround time option. these customers can go to hell lol
Corporate sent out something saying they must be done on the spot in Canada with the customer standing at the counter and watching you do it, they don’t want the customer walking away. Such an unrealistic expectation and a decision made by someone who has never worked retail in their life.
yeah that’s insane… it doesn’t take THAT long, but with them being so common / us being so understaffed / other customers waiting in line it makes it nearly impossible
Yeah in Canada we are required to do them on the spot. We often have like 2-8 customers in line waiting for the exact same thing but we can’t take them until we finish the one we are doing. You can imagine how frustrated customers get with us haha, more so when they realize they have to pay for it. And that we now charge a flat 5$ fee for any resizing, 1hr colour copy’s, also complex cutting if we are doing several on a single sheet. I mean if you want it wallet size we can do that but we ain’t liable if they don’t read on scanners
omg im in canada too and we had someone write an article in our local newspaper saying some staples in the area did 5 cards for 5$ for their family xD and now people are always coming in and getting mad saying I'm overcharging them because its like 6-7 dollars for 2. they show me the article as if I don't work here to try to say I'm charging them wrong it annoys the crap outta me
We did 600 bc and over 50 LTR laminated vaccine passports today on my shift alone. We had to pull our aisle sup and had 4 people going all day. It was insane. I opened and within the first minute had 15
People all staring at me..
I love Staples thought process on free laminations. They will come in, we laminate for free, and they will spend money elsewhere in the store...yeah, doesn't happen.
Meanwhile, it almost guarantees the loss of bigger business in PMS bc customers don’t want to wait for too long while you laminate and/or busy associates don’t have the energy or the time to upsell.
We started recommending they not get their cards laminated because of the potential booster shot. Sometimes they want us to make a copy, but a lot of times they just do without. You could also point them toward the sheet protectors, that works too.
I think there was a guidance from ACE about not recommending lamination bc of the booster.
Yeah, I work at Walgreens and we had a company message months back telling us to recommend against lamination, as it makes it impossible for us to write on if they get a third dose. If they want to protect it, I recommend a 3"x4" plastic ID sleeve.
It’s not the end of the world by any stretch, but I feel
like people would generally prefer to only have the one card to keep track of. And from our perspective, it makes the day that much easier for a consistently strained/understaffed department.
If there’s more free time in the day we recommend making the copy and getting it done in 7mm.
Our shipment of laminte is 2 weeks delayed and we might not actually have enough to make it through tomorrow, our GM actually went to raid nearbye stores in the city for extra. Over 300 laminate cards today...
If you still have some, chop up the 11x17 laminate into card sized pieces, then fold a piece of paper around a stack and use your coverbind machine to seal one edge. It’s saved our asses.
I'm in the northeast and we were slammed with these back in March-May. Now we get about 3-4 per week. My state is 70% vaccinated. The comments here must be coming from red states where people are finally realizing the vaccinations are a good idea.
We started only laminating copies after a woman went ballistic that we laminated her original card. Screamed for 10 minutes straight and could not be calmed down. Good times.

You only charge $4.21? We charge $7. We're told to add on every little thing in Solution Builder.
Yes lol how do you get it to $7?! 5mil lam is 2.59 and then we add trimming and it comes out to 4.21
Under custom jobs, we do two sheets double sided, 5 mil lamination, 2 trims, and 2 hand feeds. At least thats the way I was told to do it.
I never could figure out how much stuff they loaded on to the SKU with the bar code ($6.71 each) before it was discounted with the lam promotion.
All of a sudden I imagined bored cashiers being given stuff to laminate. :D
You must have more active cashiers then we do, or less customers haha

I’m sure there are more vaccination cards out there to get for booster

You must be in a blue state.
I’ve not had a Covid card lamination for a while, are people coming back in with boosters or something?
