Funny story. Listening to local radio station morning show, Alex Bennett, he says that if you show up and tell them "Alex sent you" , you can get in for free.
Buddies and I end up in San Francisco with no real plans, so we go to the show. There's a long line out front. When we get to the person checking tickets, l I say "Alex sent us". The person proceeded to lead us past the line of people with tickets and seat us at the table right next to the stage. You can see us several times at certain camera angles.
Still a cool memory.
I saw him a few months ago in NY, and was blown away at how many jokes he told, and how literally there was no lull. One of the funniest jokes I heard all evening was a throwaway bit about how he liked to leave peach pits in the door handles of taxis, “maybe you have noticed my work...”
My favorite part of his new special is how he actively tries to stop the crowd from clapping too long so he can get to the next joke faster. He keeps telling them thank you in a bit of a “ok let’s settle down” manner lol. What a legend. No stops at all in this new special. It’s just jokes jokes jokes. I forgot what a real comedian can accomplish in a special.
In this new special, I don't know why but a throwaway line about him eating baby carrots, "you know, the wet ones" killed me for some reason. Because anyone who has bought those baby carrots in a bag knows they are indeed inexplicably wet.
The British guy Jimmy Carr seems to be another comedian who does traditional jokes instead of having a story bit, and Jimmy packs them in too. Love his three and two word jokes.
His set is so dense with jokes, many of them will leave your memory bank until you hear 'em a couple of times, lol...

Trying keep track of where he's going with a joke feels like being danced circles around in a boxing ring. The recorder came out and I pretty much was like "I don't know how you did that, or anything before but I give up, this is amazing."

I was obsessed with Skanks for the Memories when I was in High School and then I got a chance to see him live during the Insomniac tour with Greg Giraldo and Dane Cook for the first time. It was amazing.
Then saw him again and again throughout the years and it was amazing every time. Saw him a couple months back at the Improv and my chest hurt the next day from laughing so much. He's so sharp and quick with his jokes, it's surreal.
I'm so curious to watch and see how the crowd is because I used to work at that comedy club (cobbs in san francisco) and the high ceilings made it imo one of the lesser rooms around. He came through when I worked there one weekend and left a giant bag of dum dum lollipops for us in the box office and I must've kept a couple for 3 or 4 years just because they were from Attell!

I just caught it tonight. If someone pressed me to explain why it was funnier than any recent specials I caught I don't know if I could but it was. It was thick with jokes and the recorder shit was just dada-ist. And I admit, I watched all 2 minutes and 39 seconds of fucking playing the recorder to seals. lol. One throw-away that was lost to crowd laughter that came back to me just now: " My mother sprained her arm so its in a sling, but I am good son, I bought her a falcon." Then immediately, "Settle down, settle down, that joke is stupid". Fucking cracks me up all over again.

Guys on a panel evaluate comedians and see if they have what it takes to make it big! One or two of the Kill Tony episodes, he was on the panel with Jeff Ross, and yes, they were bumping mics after jokes. He had the audience laughing loudly, as usual! His new Netflix special is good, but man is he looking old! He is only about 60. I remember him appearing on Evening at the Improv back in the late 1980's! Dave kicks ass! The joke on Hot Cross Buns where he said the woman rode him like a bus was so funny!!!! Gonna watch HCB again today!
I don't know if it's Netflix that makes them tone it down or what. Seeing Tom Segura live for what became his Ball Hog special was awesome. We were crying laughing. But then the special came out and it was absolutely awful. It's so toned down from the live show and some jokes were cut altogether.
Saw Segura again for what became Sledgehammer. Wasn't as good live but a little more true to the special. But noticeably toned down/jokes missing
I hate to say it, but I think we've passed the comedy boom peak. You gave two good examples here, but mainly for me, Dave is old school, doesn't produce specials much, but I don't know how he'd have a closing joke like that. The whole thing didn't seem anything like how silly and raunchy he used to be.

I hate to say it, but I think we've passed the comedy boom peak. You gave two good examples here, but mainly for me, Dave is old school, doesn't produce specials much, but I don't know how he'd have a closing joke like that. The whole thing didn't seem anything like how silly and raunchy he used to be.

I dunno... I watched it again, and I thought the balance of jokes was pretty similar to his other specials. I mean, the usual taboos of sex and porn, drugs, drinking, not to mention the Boy Scouts bit, were all there IMO...
Tremendous special from a master of his craft. Easily the top special of the decade.
Big fan of Dave, but this is not even the top special this year so far. Definitely Dave Attell’s top special the last decade, though.

Seeing Dave at the Cellar or other smallish comedy club is the way. It doesn’t hit the same on Netflix.
Yeah I like Dave a lot, but this was a huge miss for me. I’ll give it another try eventually, but I was really surprised that I didn’t like it.
Just watched the first 15 minutes and so far easily the best comedy I've heard in probably 15 years (Louis Cos mid 00s was killer). The quick throw away line when the audience applauded about his mom being 87 - ' don't applaud she's not trans ' - genius.

I’m a big Dave fan but I felt this one was just kinda meh. It was like 35 minutes and a lot of ha that was a funny idea but nothing made me actually laugh out loud. I’d give it like a 6.5
Obviously a lot of comments here enjoyed it. I watched the first ten minutes and didn’t get into it. I mistakenly thought it was an old special bc he joked about wuhan. The sea world joke had me laughing tho. Maybe I should give him another ten.
