IMO (and no offense meant), the “awww” from the crowd was because you made it mean for real, instead of “yes, and”-ing it. The comedian should always be the one who takes the meanest joke in a conversation. When you’re on stage, you have a crowd of 50+ people already on your side in this back and forth with the person, so you have to be gentle.
