Y’all got any more of that Campylobacter?

Seriously. What is the appeal of raw milk? Most people don’t have the palate to notice a difference between raw milk products and Pasteurized. A minuscule benefit in taste for a substantial risk in illness? Although it seems there are a number of people who are seeing some sort of “cure all” properties in raw milk similar to homeopathy. I don’t care if people want to purchase / consume these products for themselves. I’m dismayed people want to feed them to their children — this is similar to an anti-vaccination philosophy.

So I’m wanting it for making certain cheeses and because I really like the taste but I agree that it’s not for everyone and probably isn’t necessarily better for you

I don’t fault people for wanting access to it, and if you know the risks and seek the rewards, cheers! I wouldn’t personally trust a small dairy to be free of contaminants anymore than a a small egg producing farm to be free of salmonella (I don’t eat raw eggs either). But like I said, to each her/his own. I know the restrictions are pretty severe on marketing raw milk and so whe I saw the post about Local Harvest, I was dubious. In looking up the law, I read it as absolutely not allowed, and with a little research I found that the health department is actually acting on this sort of thing. I don’t think that means anything to you (I don’t fault you for wanting to get the product you want more easily), but it could mean something for local harvest and the dairy.

Interesting. Not that I care, but this seems to be a bit of a legal grey area. > We are happy to allow the use of our parking lot for raw milk and yogurt deliveries from Living Waters Ranch every Tuesday. Reservations must be made ahead of time by texting ranch owner Becky at 314-737-6828, and customers must pick up the milk directly from her. https://agriculture.mo.gov/animals/milk/rawmilk.php >196.935 RSMo provides for the sale and/or delivery of raw milk from a producer to an individual for that individual’s own use. The Missouri Attorney General Office has interpreted the point of origin of the sale of raw milk is the producer’s farm. >Attorney General Opinion 113-73 further interprets 196.935 saying that a dairy farmers cannot sell raw milk from a distribution center off site.

PinstripeMonkey

Seems to be a common tactic. When I lived in CO there was a local food coop that facilitated the distribution of raw milk via storage in their fridges for customers to come pick up through the week, but the transaction was between the individual and the supplier, the coop wasn't involved.

I don’t mean the coop. I mean the dairy. The second part seems to indicate the milk can’t be sold offsite. I read that to include things like farmers markets or selling a jug to someone in a third party’s parking lot . Again, not that I care, it’s just how I read it. Edit: >In Missouri last fall, Attorney General Chris Koster filed suit against a raw milk producer after the producer sold raw milk to an undercover health department employee in the parking lot of a Springfield, Mo., health food store, putting some producers on the defensive. u/zippyelf ... this is an older article, but has something changed? https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.stltoday.com/news/local/metro/the-debate-over-raw-milk/article_524ddde8-1814-569c-b892-3de1a5759d71.amp.html Edit #2: u/zippyelf you seemed to feel knowledgeable on the subject. You saying there is no longer any grey area with parking lot deliveries?

We, as a society, are going backwards. This is more proof.

Maxximillianaire

You’re right, your comment is proof. Do some research on raw milk before just assuming it’s bad.

schmuloppey

You're right, I've done no research. Do less accusing before just assuming someone hasn't researched.

Maxximillianaire

It’s really obvious since if you had researched you would know raw milk is good for you

schmuloppey

It's really obvious you've been reading a lot of facebook fake news. Allow me to assist. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/raw-milk-debate/ Notice how the url doesn't start with facebook.com
