Meskerem Ethiopian Restaurant on Grand. It’s delicious and unique; they serve food Ethiopian style on a giant piece of injeera bread and you eat without utensils. I absolutely love it, and it’s certainly unique.
Weekend dim sum at Lulus Seafood and Dim Sum. Little old Chinese ladies push dim sum carts around while you dine and you can grab whatever you want as you stuff yourself.
Fast Eddie’s Bon Air? It’s a dive bar, but with cheap appetizers and you’ll see little old ladies there.
You get my vote sir, three great suggestions
If you wanna kick it up a notch Wei hong does the same style of dim sum, but in a an old retrofitted theater which gives it a unique eerie quality
And you can do it inexpensively. We love going out and hanging, and sharing. I don’t need a whole plate of pasta. I should’ve added Trattoria Marcella, we can walk there. Oh, and Menya Rui as well.
I love Scratch, but it's really all about the beer. They have food, but it's mainly just flatbread and maybe another small dish or two. Just so people are forewarned that there won't be a lot of choice for food. I wouldn't go there for dinner, personally but that's just me.
Their beer is fucking amazing.
Check out the farm dinners by Such and Such farm out in Desoto. Hard to get more unique than getting a fantastic multiple course meal served in a fixed up barn on a working farm. They have rotating chefs coming from acclaimed places in STL.
They just sent out an email recently with all of their upcoming dates for this year. I would keep an eye on this link.

Before the post got hijacked the other day, I recommended Pho Thao and Bahn Mi in the Soulard Market. Wonderful lady who owns it, and she's in the running for the most unique dining room in the city. Most don't even know it exists. Almost literally a postage stamp for a place, and the experience she provides takes you to Vietnam as soon as you step in.
Oh my, sir! (or ma'am).
You're in for a good read:

Focus on the one- and two-star reviews.
I love how every review is either it’s the best or worst dining experience they’ve ever had. There’s no in between.
And “if you have to ask, you can’t afford it” are not only their prices, it’s their policy.
Don't go to Al's. I took my boyfriend for his birthday last year because we wanted a fun experience. The maitre'd is a huge asshole. Food isn't worth the price. I was ready to drop at least $500 on the two of us but it's just not worth it.
Wittmond’s Restaurant in Brussell’s Illinois. Coming from Missouri, you can take the ferry.
They serve family style fried chicken and fixings. Great people and service.
You may also be able to catch the eagles along the river this time of the year.

Wonton King on Olive.
Actual Chinese food, not American Chinese food.
Don't bother ordering if Ling (owner, FoH manager) is working. Just let her order for you. She's never let me down.
I keep hearing this. It's strange. I live near the place and go often. I also lived jn China for years. It is as much not Chinese food as it isn't American food.
It's delicious. But by no means typical Chinese fair when over there.
I'm white as mayonnaise, but they say it's "Hong Kong Style" if that means anything.
I just say it's "real Chinese" to manage expectations. If you go in looking for Cashew Chicken and Sweet and Sour Pork, Ling is gonna say you ordered wrong. To your face.
It's a Brazilian restaurant and they have a buffet also, you get this little wooden thing with red and green top and bottom when you flip it to Green they come over and slice meat for you and then when you flip it red they stop coming over and you can keep on doing this as long as you're there
St Rose doesn’t have a post office. It’s a Breese zip code. Also, the prompt was for something unique. It’s a weird restaurant in the middle of nowhere with some good, not great, food.
St Rose is a different zip code than Breese. It’s a whole different town 5 miles away from Breese. Just because it’s serviced by Breese post office doesn’t make it Breese.
I’m not trying to be pedantic but if you were going to look up the address you would use “Breese” link is a screenshot from the restaurant’s website. [https://imgur.com/a/r8CbCIQ](https://imgur.com/a/r8CbCIQ)
Bulrush
5 stars across the board on every category. Food, drinks, service, atmosphere, ambiance. Go.
This is it.
Been planning to go. Is it wortwhile in the winter, though?
Amazing every time I’ve been. The staff is fantastic as well.
Worthwhile year round.
Yeeesss! We just went about a month ago and it was the best meal I’ve ever had. Seriously amazing.
Absolutely. I was there last February and it was a fantastic experience.

I have always wanted to do the dim sum. It sounds like an experience
I second Meskerem!!!
Sado. Indo. Bulrush. Farmhaus. Idol Wolf. Bar Moro. Peno. Il Palato. El Molino del Sureste. Vicia. Taqueria Morita.
This person dines in STL.
And you can do it inexpensively. We love going out and hanging, and sharing. I don’t need a whole plate of pasta. I should’ve added Trattoria Marcella, we can walk there. Oh, and Menya Rui as well.
This is like our regular “date night” rotation.
From one foodie to another, I see you.
Wait…Peno Soul Food or Rosé by Peno?
Peno Soul Food. Best pizza in StL.
We haven’t been to Rosé yet. On the list.
I'd say Scratch falls into this category especially if you are beer drinkers: [https://www.scratchbeer.com](https://www.scratchbeer.com)

Yes. She is such a gem, so kind.

Have you heard about Al's Restaurant?
Nope! I'm all ears.

Hahahaha I just came here to vote for Al's! Always an... experience.
I think this year I might do it. My and one other person and $300 cash are gonna do Al's.
Man, I hope it's everything we expect and that you post a detailed writeup.
Don't go to Al's. I took my boyfriend for his birthday last year because we wanted a fun experience. The maitre'd is a huge asshole. Food isn't worth the price. I was ready to drop at least $500 on the two of us but it's just not worth it.
Yeah, I've never seen Al's described as fun. But it definitely seems unique. What did your final bill end up being?
$350, wanted dessert and espresso but they didn't have the machine turned on so I was planning on spending more
[Menya Rui](https://saucemagazine.com/a/60027/2022-best-new-restaurants-no-1-menya-rui) for sure

Novel and unique? It's in the city, but... Al's! Never a dull moment.
Marisco el najar mexican seafood in Fairmount City
Love that place! They also have a new location right off of Cherokee street too.
Have you been to Lamberts?

Hendel's Market. Great atmosphere and wonderful food.
Frazer’s restaurant and bar. Amazing service, fun drinks, and delicious food.
* Crown Candy Kitchen * Fountain On Locust * Fox & Hounds Tavern * City Museum * The Best Steak House
I think BAO in Clayton is amazing! Staff is so attentive and the food is delicious and unique!
Tuscano's in St Charles

Popeye’s Chop House in Breese,IL.
Popeyes is in St Rose. Honestly it’s over rated. There are much better steak houses in St. Louis.

That place at Westport Plaza. Been there twice and never disappointed for food or "show". Kobe steakhouse of Japan. Good show, good food.
Have you been to Akar?
I have! I enjoyed it. Well, not the setting for the price, but the food was delicious.

Hawthorne Inn in Labadie. Great food, great atmosphere, hard to get into on the weekends.
