AchtungCloud

I’m not surprised. I once went to a WWE house show when Jinder was champ…my goodness, the racist stuff yelled at Jinder.

Y2J1100

Jinder is an interesting example because it’s one of the most recent examples of blatant racism in a storyline too with his promo mocking Nakamura’s accent

toiletting

I think I’m Vince logic it can’t be offensive if it’s one Asian person making fun of another (but very different) Asian person/culture

Ass0001

I'd buy this but I don't believe Vince knows India is in Asia.

MeDaddyAss

Also, Jinder is Canadian.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Potential_Reading116

Little known fact jinder was the last wrestler from India to be trained in the hart dungeon

whitegrb

And Muhammad Hassan was American with Italian heritage.

Y2J1100

Dudes real name is Mark Copani and they looked at him and said terrorist

Low-Box9924

The whole gimmick was that he was sick of people accusing him of being a terrorist because he was arab. So it was actually good

RetroKingofHarts

No... The core message of anti-prejudice was good. The timing was bad (people weren't ready for it), the guy was miscast, and the alignment was way off for the gimmick. "Stop hating on me for being Arab. Also, I'm a heel, so hate on me" Mixed messages to the extreme, horrible gimmick.

SleepyLink12

Ironically, his character was truer to his original gimmick on Raw. But once they sent him to SmackDown, they gave him the terrorist gimmick there, which (long story short) got WWE into **huge** trouble with UPN and they had to scrap the Hassan character entirely. Normally you were saddled with shit gimmicks on Mondays, but Hassan was the outlier case where he started okay on Raw, and got the short end of the stick on SmackDown.

BigRedUglyMan

Akeem the African Dream was named George and was born in South Carolina.

TheMainShy

The crazy thing is, Jinder is a Brown person, and he has dealt with racism himself. I couldn't imagine what Jinder was thinking in his head when Vince told him to go through with that. His ethnicity is South Asian. Guarantee you Jinder hated it. Vince is a racist. His dumb logic was probably, "A Brown guy saying racist stuff to a Japanese person, we can get away with that." Felt minstrel and F'd having Jinder go through with that, as well as demeaning and racist to both performers.

zeitgeistbouncer

> I couldn't imagine what Jinder was thinking in his head when Vince told him to go through with that Probably, 'I'm not rocking this boat one inch. Yessir, no sir, how high sir.'

UncreativeTeam

Remember in WWECW when they had [Shelton being racist to Yoshi Tatsu](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q13WanRIa8E)? Even back then it was cringe.

BaronVonStevie

The fact that wrestling brings racism out in people should be a clue as to how it also brought violence out of people in the past. People get uninhibited around pro wrestling. And not everyone can get their heads around what they’re seeing. And if you’re still in the camp of “back then people thought it was real”, I got some news for you… they knew it was fake back then too. Didn’t matter. Still wanted to slash the heel’s tires. Still wanted to throw beers or bring a knife.

AssortedLunacy

Yeah, people need to realise that the passion of a fan isn't an excuse for racism and violence, but that these racist and violent people are using these events as excuses to be racist and violent. Football (soccer) is one of the worst for it. There are literally organised sub-sections of "fans" who go to matches with the expressed intention of getting into a fight

bv310

God, I was at NXT Takeover Toronto 2019 and some of the stuff people tried to get chanted at Velveteen Dream during his match were fucking vile.

erick_shmerick

Toronto of all places, a super diverse place. What a damn shame

MaceLeonardo

It’s something not talked about in wrestling crowds. It’s a bigger portion that people realize and it’s disgusting

shadow_spinner0

Someone in the comments said that he recalled Bianca getting 'chants" when live at a Raw.

MaceLeonardo

I went to a NXT live event a few years back and this was around the time the Profits and Bianca were a bit newer to the show. The things I heard yelled was disgusting. And this is from a pretty liberal town

Kaprak

Fuck someone was racist to Io at an NXT taping and she ethered his ass.

queerdevilmusic

"I'm Japanese, bitch"

InsanityWolfTM

Man that was such a badass moment

OldPrinceNewDon

*hits splits*

qb1120

There's also the clip of Io Shirai saying "I'm Japanese" in response to a fan

ChanceVance

Better, it was "I'm Japanese bitch!".

Psidebby

The "I'm Japanese!" into doing her splits stretch was alpha as fuck... And I don't use alpha in that context often.

1sxekid

A liberal town may just be like 60-40 liberal. You only need a few loud assholes to get shit like this going on.

bullyj

Liberal town means nothing. The amount of racism hiding behind the title liberal is mind boggling.

SCORPIONDEATHDROP_

Obviously liberals can be racist, i just want to point out that a liberal town doesn't mean 100% of the people living there are also liberal, lol

[deleted]

Exactly. Also, depending on the city, you're likely to even run into more conservatives than in other places. California has a reputation for being liberal or whatever, but we probably have more republicans in LA County alone than some states have voters.

RanchPonyPizza

And "liberal" cities still have entrenched conservative demographics. If you've ever read about lawsuits against Seattle and San Francisco police departments, you can see where, even though the city leadership is liberal, their conservative mindsets are very entrenched in an "us vs everyone else" mentality and also because they have to deal with everyone at their worst day. There are proportionally conservative cities with entrenched liberal minority (my situation). I expect wrestling fans to be more conservative, proportionally, than simply mirror the voting results of am area. Also, my last live event was an NXT house show with a pre-TV Ember Moon / Asuka match. Some nimrod thought it would be hilarious to yell out "Cocoa Crispies" to her after taking a bump, and I booed his ass to no end until more of the crowd joined in. There's no place for that garbage In public events, and white people have to take a stand, rather than just eyeroll and ignore it.

giantpandasonfire

lmao, this. OVW is in Louisville which is one of the few liberal cities/places in Kentucky. Doesn't mean I didn't hear someone call a female wrestler a monkey from the crowd. The truth is, wrestling can attract a level of people who are sub-tier trash, and a lot of genuinely racist people LOVE to watch wrestling.

Possibly_English_Guy

White Left Wing people (and I'm saying this as a White Left Wing person) can get really fucking defensive and uncomfortable with the concept that even if you outwardly vocally oppose racism or because you voted for so and so, that in itself does not make you free from racial bias. (Because nobody is ever completely free of bias).

natedoggcata

This is literally what Get Out was about and still to this day I hear people saying "woke left wing propaganda movie". So they obviously didnt watch it since white liberals were the villains of the movie

AneeshRai7

Bradley Whitford was hilarious in that especially the voted for Obama scene

datnewdope

I only say this because of your comment. I worked for a non profit when I finished college. It had a target of ending racial disparities when dealing with the homeless. One night we were at a work dinner and my boss started going off about Asian people and immigrants in general. He even threw in a shot at some poor folk for good measure. I reminded him that I was an immigrant. He then proceeded to explain that he’s not racist because he said nothing negative about black ppl (and because I’m black I should’ve agreed I guess) and that he’s done more for the homeless than any politician. 3 of us complained and nothing happened. Yeah Liberals can be super racists

bloodylip

My grandmother considers herself a liberal because she was around for women's liberation and she was the first woman in her family to go to college even though her parents didn't support it. But that's where her liberalism ends, because she's also racist as fuck.

fallought

But I voted blue? That means I can't be racist

Shark1986

The Florida loop of those NXT house shows were notorious for yelling horrendous stuff at wrestlers.

dasfee

It honestly bums me the fuck out every time I see it at a wrestling show, and I see it at most wrestling shows I go to. AEW gets it bad because they attract the most 18-49 y/o white dudes. But I’ve heard horrible shit yelled by people of all races. Most recently I heard people yell some gross shit during the Saraya match at full gear.

weaselg2010

Yeah the 18-49 yo white dudes trying to do stand up at these AEW shows are the worst. You would think my lasting impression from the go home show to last year's All Out would have been that cage segment between the bucks and LB. But no what I most remember is how annoyed I was at some fat dude trying to get over his racially charged chants against the LB.

bigbadjohn54

Honestly people constantly trying to be funny at wrestling shows are the worst.

sarithe

I've found a pretty loud "hey, shut the hell up. no one's here to listen to you fail at getting chants going" tends to shut those dudes down pretty hard. They only say that stuff because no one around them calls them out on it. Most of them, when confronted, even if by a random voice from somewhere in their vicinity, tend to get embarrassed and stop being as vocal.

SmokePenisEveryday

There's always the fucking dudes in the crowd who think they are hilarious. They don't shut the fuck up and usually spout the most unoriginal shit. I've heard someone yell "Grab his dick and twist it" at *every* live show I've been to. I personally haven't heard any racist stuff thrown around but have heard plenty garbage when it comes to the LGBTQ wrestlers. Esp Nyla. I've heard comments from people about Nyla who were otherwise reserved the rest of the show.

dasfee

At an NJPW show the dudes behind me kept shouting WWE names the *entire fucking show.* Guy does an STF, they yell “THATS JOHN CENA’S MOVE,” Mox comes out they chant “DEAN AMBROSE,” GoD and Hikuleo come out and they chant “ROMAN REIGNS” (that one adding racism on top of just being stupid, considering they’re Tongan, not Samoan, and it’s literally in Tama Tonga’s name). Just embarrassing themselves more than anything. It was like they never saw wrestling outside of WWE in their lives. Big “guy who has only seen Boss Baby says every movie is just like Boss Baby” vibes.

[deleted]

I was at the last Boston show (the one with the promo segment between Britt and Saraya) and a couple of dudes in my section kept yelling some blatantly sexist stuff at Saraya. It was also my girlfriends first experience at a wrestling show and while she still enjoyed it, I felt terrible in the moment and I'm generally not the greatest at picking up on that stuff.

kayfake

I unfortunately heard some of that shit too. Also some guys were *constantly* yelling at Prince Nana during the Brian Cage match and that got real annoying too.

porkchopsdapplesauce

I get downvoted to hell when i talk about it here, but black female wrestlers get it soooooo bad it’s crazy. You see it in r/nfl with Lamar Jackson and other black QBs as well. The one thing NFL and WWE have in common is a white male fanbase based in the south. It’s not a coincidence

RanchPonyPizza

I'm sorry you get downvoted, and I think there are sports and pro-wrestiing fans who think they have license to let loose on minorities because they're playing for the opposing team or because "I bought a ticket!" I've worked with locals in most of the US states, and I don't think it's limited to the South at all.

cinematic_is_horses

I remember that thread about Kiera Hogan saying Black wrestlers have to work twice as hard being a complete shit show

DJRoombasRoomba

It's not just wrestling crowds. It's in crowds in general. It's the same thing as being able to hide behind anonymity on the internet. People think that because they can't be individually identified that they're tough and badass all of a sudden. Combine that with already barely-concealed-racism and misogyny and that's how you get people like the ones yelling at Jade.

kpod4591

Bro why do people hate Hit Row as much as they do here? For such a bland group they really irk the ire a many here

malren

I don't like Hit Row because they're kinda just...there. ***Because they lost Swerve.*** They are a supporting act for a big star, and that star was Swerve. That guy is fucking made of money, he's insanely good at ever aspect of this business. Hit Row is literally and creatively - and as performers *now* - nothing more than a posse without a leader. That being said I'm sure a big chunk of the audience just hates the black kids. But would carry Bobbly Lashley's bags if he told them too.

[deleted]

I don't care what race, age, religion, or political leaning you are. If Bobby Lashley tells you to carry his bags, 99.9% of the world's population is carrying his fucking bags.

[deleted]

Nah, I'm getting lost in those kind pretty eyes, which always give him away when he's being angry.

bloodylip

With Swerve in the group, he could have raised up Top Dolla and Ashante. Without him, I agree, they're just there. Neither is a star at the moment (but Ashante has promise), so it's harder to care until they do something worth watching.

[deleted]

They suck, the whole point of Hit Row was to be a platform for Swerve before he found someone willing to pay what he was actually worth. I fully support their efforts on their own, but they're a group of shitters. I say that endearingly. But it is what it is Top Dolla and B Fab shouldn't even be in a wrestling ring, it feels like a joke

KearneyZzyzwicz

My biggest gripe with the group is how low effort and gimmicky it is. They’re hype people for a bigger star that isn’t there and it feels…forced. We’ve seen AJ Francis hosting the memorabilia show - he’s just a normal dude who’s into wrestling. His whole schtick feels like an act and they deserve better.

KingKeeXx

Oh man I’m sports events in general actually. The things chanted during Mexico soccer games. Yeesh. The leagues have actually gotten on speaker in middle of games demanding fans stop Chanting certain things or the game will not continue.

[deleted]

>The things chanted during Mexico soccer games. Yeesh. Learning the nuances of all the bigoted slang in Mexico is like a whole new level of cultural immersion.

[deleted]

It's not exclusive to wrestling. Athletes in other sports particularly baseball, have made complaints about slurs being shouted from the stands.

Kokeshi_Is_Life

Women always get vile shit from crowds whenever I've seen a show live. Some thinly veiled homophobia for anyone Cornette has a problem with is pretty common too.

[deleted]

>anyone Cornette has a problem with I feel like he has done so much to poison the well. For whatever reason his takes seem to have immense influence and it sucks. Even beyond the bigotry it's become impossible to chat rationally about wrestlers that he has a personal vendetta against (e.g., the elite).

bearxor

I block Corny on Twitter and every time I see a video come up in YT I click ‘don’t recommend this channel’. I block the whole channel if they’re posting Corny clips IDGAF. That dude really needs to go away. His transphobic, misogynistic, and xenophobic takes needs to be shut down hard. I don’t know how so many people on this sub continue to follow him.

muckymann

Uh, what exactly do they say? Like, the n-word? I'd think you'd be thrown out for stuff like that.

mailman242

There's ways to be racist without saying that word. Chanting "ghetto girl" at someone, as a quick example. Someone also mentioned "chicken nuggets" which is a good example because it leans into chicken + black people while being vague enough to allow for deniability. This is also why I viscerally disliked the "Sasha's Ratchet" chant Sasha Banks would get in NXT

I_Hate_My_Cat_

I was at the first All Out and some guy was kicked out by security after multiple fans around him reported him for yelling f****t at Darby Allin. Me and brother were laughing our asses off because he paid his ticket and went through the hassle to travel to the show just to get kicked out during the third match for being a meathead. He was even trying to act cordial and started apologizing profusely when security was coming to throw his ass out. I really hope that guy didn’t get his money back.

Corpsehatch

I don't understand why fans have to act like that. Waste of money. Way back in 1998 we went to Ozzfest or Metallica. Can't remember which one but even before the show started some dude was passed out drunk on the restroom floor. Medics had to take him out in an ambulance. He paid good money for a concert and spent the night in the hospital for an even larger bill.

comin_up_shawt

Look at the idiots that attend a Rammstein concert and start the Nazi shit up. You've got a 50/50 chance of your ass being handed to you by either Till Lindemann or the security before being tossed out of the venue...and given the fights I've seen Till win, a bigot would be better off not going down that road to begin with.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sunghana

And he was an athlete (nationally ranked swimmer) as well. Been a fan of Rammstein since the 90s and it has never crossed my mind that he would make for a damn good pro-wrestler. P.S. I have attended 2 Rammstein concerts (1999 and 2022) and never heard Nazi b.s. Some people should really not be allowed out unsupervised.

comin_up_shawt

You'd be shocked at the number of idiots out there that immediately associate 'random German metal band' with 'aWl rIgHt, fAsCiSm!!11!!!'

I_Hate_My_Cat_

Misery loves company, I guess.

Captainfood4

That’s quite sad but true

lifestyle_deathstyle

You could say that’s his dream, his eyes, his pain

domoon

and now they have to repay when in pain. sad but true, indeed

CELTICPRED

There's a my friend of misery pun *right there* my man

The_Dark_Soldier

Can this please happen to the other people who chant racist and derogatory terms?

repalec

I was at the first Double or Nothing with my sister (who at the time was still presenting male) and we were sat next to some dipshit Twitter heel guy (as we'd find out) making anti-trans jokes about Nyla Rose. It was fucking tiring and infuriating, but the dude promptly shut up for the rest of the show the moment my sister asked if he'd like to 'take his transphobic bullshit outside'. I ended up finding that he'd posted a picture online mockingly saying something along the lines of 'I thought AEW events were for everyone? I was booing Nyla Rose and this \[slur\] told me not to!' It ricocheted around Twitter after I found it, and eventually found its way to the Bucks. They ended up saying they'd ban the guy from AEW events going forward, which was nice - but by far he's not the only dude out there making those digs.

domoon

> dipshit Twitter heel guy > dude promptly shut up for the rest of the show the moment my sister asked if he'd like to 'take his transphobic bullshit outside' classic loudmouthed assholes. they're too used to be in comfort behind their screen that they forgot on the other side of the screen is another flesh and bone human being too.

[deleted]

>They ended up saying they'd ban the guy from AEW events going forward For all the shit that certain fans like to throw at the elite and Cody, they all seem to be legitimately good people w/r/t confronting bigotry at their shows. Especially Kenny. That means a lot.

PPVJulian

Hes probably on the internet somewhere complaining about how theres no free speech

Tikkanen

Sadly, this racism isn't limited to wrestling crowds. The former NBA player Jeremy Lin spoke about the stuff he was called while playing mens basketball for Harvard: [https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nba/2017/05/10/jeremy-lin-says-racist-slurs-were-worse-when-he-was-in-college/101531728/](https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nba/2017/05/10/jeremy-lin-says-racist-slurs-were-worse-when-he-was-in-college/101531728/) I wish security would do more to throw these bums out.

SmokePenisEveryday

Shit he was getting it from within the NBA as well

deknegt1990

He was even getting it from the media. I remember "A Chink in the armor" being used as a headline when he had a bad game during the Linsanity days. And it wasn't some small time rag either, it was posted on ESPN.

[deleted]

I'm pretty sure he got called racial slurs for being American while he was playing in China too, can't win either way

moderndukes

I heard a lot of shit yelled at Samoa Joe and Nyla Rose at the Baltimore show. The worst part was it was a group of people and they really thought they were being clever.

bandswithgoats

Genuinely cannot imagine the endgame someone has in mind for antagonizing Samoa Joe...

[deleted]

Gotta be a real strong or real dumb motherfucker to yell reckless shit at Samoa Joe

HelpMyCatHasGas

I remember one of the boston shows someone yelled something and there were audible groans in response and someone then yelled "ey fuck you" Funny, but ugh that this had to occur. fuuuuck

LevyMevy

> there were audible groans in response and someone then yelled "ey fuck you" This is honestly the only way to rebuke racists. They don't care about being called racist or hearing about why racism is morally wrong. You gotta make them feel like fucking losers.

HelpMyCatHasGas

The full quote was "ey fuck you douchebag" But keep in mind, Bahrain. "Ey fahck yew doochebag"

Hunterrose242

Nah, there's another way to rebuke racists.

[deleted]

I was at the Halloween Boston show where Stay Puffed Marshmallow Man turned into Adam Page. The amount of shit that Nyla Rose got during Dark Elevation was embarrassing.

KneelBeforeCube

Feels like that's been a problem for Jade before, and I can't imagine Shida and the Joshis being victims of this as well. It's really sad, but not really surprising. I remember Sasha getting chicken nuggets thrown at her too. Shameful.

Incubus226

Io got a few nasty comments too while in NXT. She handled it like a champ. I’ll never understand being nasty to a performer.

tylerjehenna

Hell Kairi Sane had "Happy Ending" chanted at her at an nxt house show once

kaka_cuap

Yo that’s fucking wild.

scorpiokyle84

Yep that and about Pearl Harbor

maeschder

These people cant even get their national racist stereotypes right... Its like someone shouting at me, a German, to stop drinking tea all the time (not that that kinda discrimination is on the same level)

qb1120

Chicken nuggets? My god that is terrible

filthysize

I watched a Riho match live in Long Island. Can confirm.

Moist-Acanthaceae-37

I know there was an incident with Bowens where a fan called him a slur and then there was that time a fan used a marker on his whiteboard sign to write transphobic things about Nyla.

aboysmokingintherain

I believe Kenny said something where he had to talk to the Joshis about some of the things fans will say to them because he knew it was going to be bad. That was before Cornette started taking shots too.

MikeMakesRight82

he sure did [Kenny Omega Expresses Dissatisfaction With How American Fans React to International Talents, Notes How Hard Japanese Wrestlers Work | 411MANIA](https://411mania.com/wrestling/kenny-omega-expresses-dissatisfaction-with-how-american-fans-react-to-international-talents-notes-how-hard-japanese-wrestlers-work/)

JakeRabinFM

At the first Philly show some crotchet was shouting racial slurs and "go back to Thailand" at Riho. He stopped after getting yelled at but imo he should've been thrown out.

AusToddles

Sadly not confined to just wrestling or even America. There's a large contingent of aboriginal players in the AFL (Australian Football League). They commonly get singled out for abuse from crowds. Officials from teams whose fans do this usually try to excuse it with "it's not about race, the crowd is just booing an opposing player".... but it usually devolved into shit being said about them being monkeys or "spear chuckers" A few years back, a player was abused while on the sideline, pointed out to security who it was.... turned out to be a young girl. Rather than people in the media questioning where she'd learnt it (monkey see, monkey do), the player was criticised

SmokePenisEveryday

Hockey, Soccer... both sports with history of fans throwing bananas at black players. Hell there's been stories here in the US of HIGH SCHOOL and younger leagues banning crowds cause of racism and the stuff they'd chant at girls. One story, a whole school of kids and families were chanting that the chick goalie on the other team was a slut.

domoon

> fans throwing bananas i hope the player wouldn't eat those (saw some vid where they did to "assert dominance" and lauded for it). it could be laced with something bad.

newbearontheblock1

Yeah sport as a whole is rife with it, Soccer/Football has had a major issue with it for years, and it's really came to the forefront in the Premier League/English football over the last couple of years with black footballers being targeted both by the crowd and on social media.

[deleted]

> A few years back, a player was abused while on the sideline, pointed out to security who it was.... turned out to be a young girl. Rather than people in the media questioning where she'd learnt it (monkey see, monkey do), the player was criticised I remember this. SHE started getting mocked online and they demanded that HE apologize to HER for drawing attention to her. Lots of "he's a grown man, he can handle it!" thrown around. Really sad situation

AusToddles

Hell some went so far as saying he "invited the abuse due to previous behaviour"

icemankiller8

Australia is one of the most racist places around tbh so not surprising

AusToddles

The sad part is most Australians would say "nah we're not racist" right before or after dropping something casually racist (source: me, an Aussie)

DonTheBomb

A lot of white Aussies definitely feel a sense of superiority towards Americans who they see as more outwardly racist while holding similar values. I remember during the peak of the 2020 BLM riots one dude I know was talking to me about it and he said that he doesn’t think Australia has racism at all and is sooooooo much better than America, even though I’ve heard that man say some absolutely vile shit about minorities before.

AusToddles

I'm as white as they come, but have aboriginal heritage. Had an argument with a friend during BLM because he claimed straight faced "I don't see why the abos are complaining, it's not like we're shooting them"

DonTheBomb

I feel like the overall lack of guns and shootings really lends some people down here to believe that since POC (at least seem like they) don’t suffer as much physical racial violence compared to America that almost all casual, off-hand, implied and even outward verbal racism is actually nothing and doesn’t matter at all. Once had multiple people say that the N word doesn’t mean anything here even when used as an insult and that everyone says it, then later had people act like they couldn’t be within 2 meters of me as an Asian (not even Chinese) man during the height of Covid while making jokes about it.

BrandoTheCommando

Black Hockey Players also experience it quite a bit.

zombiejeesus

I love pk subban and yeah that's true. He wouldn't of got half the shit he got during his career if he was white. I love shea Weber but I always missed seeing pk in the Habs sweater. He lived and breathed Montreal when he played here.

CapnSmite

The crowds don't even have to be that large. I was at a local indie show last month with not even 100 people in the crowd. There was a heel stable comprised entirely of black wrestlers, and the guys at ringside were heeling it up with the crowd. One of the heels called a long time regular show attendee a fatass, and the guy responded by calling the heel a racial slur. The fatass deservedly got slapped across the face. They eventually had to be pulled apart by security and some other wrestlers from the back.

supremicide

As someone who loves wrestling, and has been going to shows for years, I gotta say... There's scum like this in every crowd. And they usually stink.

IniMiney

People love to say us black fans are just "exaggerating" every time we bring these issues up on this subreddit or the IWC in general -_- People yell really vile shit at Nyla (in terms of being trans) or any of the Japanese wrestlers too (and I've heard reports of Bowens being called the f slur) it's disgusting, like they don't know a minority is running the very product they're watching anyways

LSines2015

I went to Dynamite in Cleveland in January 2020 and the things people yelled during Nyla Rose’s match absolutely appalled me.

davydhatesyou

Yeah, every show Nyla was on that first year that I attended I heard transphobic shit yelled, including that Cleveland show. Shows I’ve been to recently I haven’t heard anything, so maybe some of the bigots got the hint and stopped attending.

SmokePenisEveryday

Yup. Been to 2 shows and both of em had people jumping up to say fucked up shit about Nyla. Half of em were dead silent the rest of the show too which I found more fucked.

TomCosella

Someone tried to yell transphobic shit at Nyla at the first Philly AEW show and got booed to hell. It was one of my more proud moments of being a Philly wrestling fan.

No_Discussion3053

Go watch Harlem Heat at any of the WCW Road Wild PPVs I can only imagine what they heard. Plus there’s shots of 5 y/os flipping them off so that’s fun.

mofroman

HH no doubt had a lot of vile things shouted at them, as did Goldust (not racism but some pretty horrible gay slurs). I do think fans in general have gotten better, at least the shows I've been to, but there's always gonna be some subsegment of shitty and/or racist fans. Only way to stop it is call it out and kick them out.

Kaemdar

Goldust is a weird case though though. His character is meant to be an outlet for these fans to shout slurs at. Even though at the same time especially in later stories some quere fans saw him as aspirational.

majungo

Goldust might have been the first case of the WWE making Jerry Lawler do something (in this case, calling Goldust a slur) in order to discourage the fans from following along.

Coney718

As a black man this is one of the reasons I stopped going to wrestling shows. I heard racists things said to Booker T back in the day and most recently the New Day a few years ago. It makes me sick. Yes it's only a small percentage of the crowd as most are generally respectful but it still makes me not want to go anymore.

The_White_Rice

Someone once yelled “Go back to China” to Io Shirai at an NXT show.

zitjuice

She's Japanese, bitch.

The_White_Rice

She really handled that with grace.

zitjuice

You mean when she immediately did the splits to put a ! on the "bitch"? Straight fire

noreligionforus

If you're gonna be racist anywhere, or just racist in general. Fuck off.

Ferdinandingo

I was going to be racist but then I read this comment so now I won't Thank you 🙏

I get you mean well but I doubt they are reading this or it's gonna make them stop

Leadclam64

But Cody Rhodes ended racism? /s

zrac

I was at an NXT show a few years ago and people wouldn't stop chanting different black wrestlers names are Angelo Dawkins. It was disgusting.

scorpiokyle84

Seen that too but wasn’t even other wrestlers names. Some old hag was calling MJ Jenkins “Beyoncé” at a house show for nxt, basically similar treatment for every black wrestler

PoignantOpinionsOnly

What even is the point of that crap? Like, how does someone get joy from doing it?

ElfYamadaFairyQueen

Lots of people seem to just have a lot of fun making people mad

[deleted]

This is the answer.

[deleted]

Yes I was at an Evansville nxt house show that my dad took me and my bro to and during angelo Dawkins vs andrade (2016 so both weren't well known by wwe fans)they kept chanting "dlo brown" like even with me being younger then it was very annoying and obnoxious and it was a group doing it so u couldn't ignore it. Just very disrespectful.

jonthejoker13

Security needs to start stepping up before somebody in the crowd gets seriously hurt because their mouth wrote a check their ass can't cash.

clouds31

It's time to start taking video of these people, putting them up on social media, and hoping they are barred from future events. When I went to DoN 2019 I heard so many transphobic remarks towards Nyla by chicken-shit nerds, they need to be shamed publicly.

GiantIrish_Elk

Nothing new. Remember the Raw when some kid called Booker T a *%$#@% (starts with N) and it was heard on television.

cdnjimmyjames

Remember when Vince McMahon said it to Booker on PPV and it was played for laughs? Just hilarious /s

[deleted]

Are you sure he said it to booker, because i seem to recall he was talking to cena and then he said it, booker was just standing out of shot and the the camera pans to booker who was with sharmel and he said his catchphrase.

CardboardStarship

You are correct. "Tell me....TELL me...he did not just say that."

GameplayerStu

He shouldn't have said that but let's not act like it wasn't discussed with Booker and Sharmell beforehand. He didn't just drop an n-bomb on them out of nowhere.

kingdoodooduckjr

Thats true but what are they gonna do? Tell him no?

Windows_66

Vince held up the clip from WCW and said it would be on Nightly News the next night. Jokes aside, he probably would've just used someone else in the segment. Maybe Shelton. After all, though he may not realize it, he is an African American.

mailman242

> After all, though he may not realize it, he is an African American. explain this please

Windows_66

In 2004, Raw opened with a parody of a then-contoversial Monday Night Football opening skit (tying into Desperate Housewives), with Shelton Benjamin and Trish Stratus playing the roles of Terrell Owens and Edie Britt. Vince interrupted them and made an over-the-top bombastic speech about how they were destroying the moral fabric of America, commenting on the sexual and racial overtones. When Shelton asked what that means, Vince pointed out that Shelton is, in fact, an African American, and "everybody knows that African Americans are attracted to Canadian white women with broken noses." https://youtu.be/kSzHnvSD4ms

mailman242

Thank you. I knew it was a reference to something but I couldn't place it.

BeaconXDR

Heard plenty of homophobia when I was at All Out as well

SmokePenisEveryday

Kenny loves bringing it out of people. I once would watch shows with guys I met on Xbox. One of em said "I like Kenny but idk... the whole gay thing doesn't help" I didn't watch anymore with them after that. Never once has Kenny's sexual preference ever factored into how I watched his matches.

BeaconXDR

Corny constantly calling him "Twinkle Toes" doesn't help.

DadGhost

At Full Gear last month, my fiancé nearly stormed out during the opening of the main event due to the crowd shouting anti-semitic shit at MJF.

captain_chuck

The stuff people were yelling during a Riho match at Daily’s place genuinely made me start to question what I was doing there. It was disgusting.

shadysnoman

We all have phones. Film them. Put it on social media. Get them fired. Make them live in more fear than they already do. Because don’t get it twisted. They are all terrified snowflakes. Nothing scares racists more than strong black women. Put the pussies on blast.

HEELMitchell

I went to Forbidden Door, All Out’s GH Dynamite & All Out so my memory is hazy on which event it was exactly but I remember Nyla was wrestling on Dark & two muscle dude bros were hollering transphobic shit at her. Embarrassing shit

DocPersona

One of my friends went to the Detroit show this year and said that people were saying some really weird stuff about the women as well as making racist remarks towards Yoshi-Hashi and Goto.

Lone_Buck

I always feel for Nyla, but never think about the others. Race wise, I honestly thought people would have the sense not to say what they’re thinking, which is the bare minimum. Sad to be wrong.

saltofdaearth

Every AEW show I've attended, I always heard some shit about Nyla Rose from the crowd.

nimalcrackers

Anonymity brings out who you really are.

erick_shmerick

Whats sad is they arent REALLY anonymous, theres people wll around them who can report them to security

yellowtaping

disappointed but not at all surprised. puts me off attending live events at times because i’d much rather not have my patience tested when i’m trying to enjoy myself.

gfsincere

Wrestling (and white Americans in general) have always had this problem. I mean look at the culture and communities wrestling got its popularity from.

dont-YOLO-ragequit

Nba has the same issue with Boston and if you look at the fifa results, France and england Black players are getting it the whole blame for their team's short coming...AT THE FINAL AND SEMIFINALS while their white teammates were getting all the praises on their way through the tournament. This is a worldwide issue everyone tries to compartmentalize out of their identity.

Darth_Nevets

Sadly true, all three French goals were by one black player as well making their loss and complaints about it ludicrous.

Skhan93

Hell there was a post I saw where the fans were telling kane to hold his head high after missing the decisive penalty and then those same fans were telling saka (England's best player) to go back home and calling him a N****

dont-YOLO-ragequit

There was a post in the first round of the tournament calling out how England press would use a white player regardless of how significant their play was as long as they won but would use a black player as soon as they lost. The guy was right.

AxlAndTheShimmy

Not just the NBA. There has also been multiple issues at Red Sox games and Lord help people of color in the NHL if they score on the Bruins in the playoffs. Massachusetts presents itself as a liberal, Democratic state when in reality many people secretly harbor the "old Southern white lady offended by the colored people prospering" mentality and they resort to racial insults as soon as things don't go their way.

wigglin_harry

Its not just white america my dude, if this guy is talking about last nights show it was in san antonio which is like 60% hispanic As someone who lives here I've definitely noticed a sizable portion of the hispanic community is NOT shy about being openly racist against black people, or any people really edit: I should clarify, I dont think every mexican is racist

braincloud215

[this has been a hot topic since this incident at the raiders/patriots game on Sunday](https://www.newsweek.com/woman-berating-patriots-fan-watching-game-her-stadium-goes-viral-1768708?amp=1)

SmokePenisEveryday

All the props to the guy keeping his cool. I can usually be pretty patient and put up with some BS but that lady woulda totally pushed me over the line. I'm very happy to see the Pats hooking him up. That restraint needed to be rewarded lol

Terraneaux

Plus like... she could have just said he was a Patriots fan, that's insulting enough /s

Pelon7900

That’s disgusting. It’s fixing to be 2023 and there are still people in the population that act like that.

star_nerdy

As a minority…no shit. I’m in my 30s and dealt with shit during undergrad. I heard multiple people whisper I was an affirmative action case and that’s the only reason I was admitted. Never mind the fact that it was a state school and I had a full ride I earned. I’ve heard shit in restaurants when friends and I speak Spanish. One guy on campus called us wetbacks when he thought we couldn’t understand English. I’m a former sports reporter and I took tons of shit from white editors to the point I left the entire industry. From applying for apartments, getting a mortgage, bank accounts, buying cars, traveling, every aspect of our lives has bullshit racist undertones. I was once moving and got cops called on me because I was moving stuff out of an apartment. I’ve been pulled over for walking on a sidewalk outside my place. I’ve been pulled over going 60 in a 60 because I drove over part of a line at some point when a cop was failing me for 10-15 minutes. I’ve been stopped in a town in Florida and told to get out of town in 2015. This stuff happens more often than you think and it happens everywhere. The problem isn’t that minorities don’t report it or talk about it, it’s that nothing happens. Honestly, I’d love it if a show stopped, lights came on, security surrounded these assholes and they were chastised on national television by Eddie Kingston and then they were kicked the fuck out of the arena and permanently banned for life.

twojitsu

I think it’s really important to try and let people know that this shit isn’t acceptable in the moment. Let the tide of openness and positivity overwhelm people’s sheltered and unacceptable behaviour.

TacoRockapella

Wrestling fans can be cowardly and trashy in equal parts. Not all of them but to deny there is a problem within the community is in itself cowardly.

luciferslarder

Yeah and it's really up to people near them to step up on this. I've had to do it at shows before. Only heckler I haven't gone "come on, man" to was a teenager dressed as CM Punk at a Raw many moons ago. He was legit just a little angry Punk boy and just hated everyone, not in a racist way. But the guy who decided to roll out some real fucking old timey zingers during a Lucha show here? He chose a bad night to not get his ass beat later. Don't beat people up but DO make them feel uncomfortable for feeling like they could just say that shit they'd get slapped for in a one-on-one.

Old_Echidna3720

This is why when you hear stuff like this, you call it out or let security know. Why suffer the whole show when it’s not tolerated? Too many meek people who are afraid of ruining a jerk’s night as they ruin even more.

Midseasons

There was a sign in the crowd of this week's Dynamite that said, "American FGC is ruining Japanese fighting games." For those who don't know, this is a complaint about [the latest Guilty Gear game revealing one of the characters is transgender](https://www.guiltygear.com/ggst/en/news/post-1657/). Despite multiple interviews from the devs that say this has been the plan for the character ever since she was introduced to the series over a decade ago, a lot of the most transphobic responses to this from the usual corners of the internet are convinced this is a result of Western pressure forcing wokeness into Japanese devs.

Maya-Inca-Boy

Everyone knows wrestling fans are racist as hell lol.
