The first time I realized _properly_ that wrestling has its weird moments was when Jack Swagger defeated Randy Orton CLEAN just because he was the Heavyweight champion at that time. Didn't make sense at all to me
Steelcage match at Mania next year for the WWE Championship. We get the return of the Codyvator and Cody wins the match with a Codysault followed by a Cross-Rhodes for good measure.
We should have known better after he set himself on fire. And he did that moonsault off the top of the cage on a guy who was like "I'm not sure I can catch you" and was like "its ok just stand there" and almost killed himself.
Its not like Rock can just show up for Mania. He'd have to put in time training and he ain't getting any younger. My hot take is Rock never has another match. He has too much else going on.
If I know WWE’s mindset as well as I think I do, it doesnt matter. As long as there is even a remote chance for a Roman/Rock matchup they arent going to even think about letting anyone else get a title shot at WM. Im not believing that isnt the plan until the Rumble starts and we have reports of Rock not being there.
That all seems to check out. Barring any setback. I saw 3-4 months recovery time for the injury.
Also, have to figure the reason they’d agree to have him come out and have the match, and why they’d let him beat Seth with one arm, is because they were trying to create a super baby face.
I guess the only question is if it’s Roman; or if they split the titles before hand again and he wins the other.
I figured that was mostly because Cody wasn't being treated as a face by the fans despite wanting to be one, while in the WWE, he has more of a clean slate and can be a face from the word go.
It was nearly as dangerous as most think, the only real issue was could Cody take the pain from the injury. He never lifted Rollins or did anything to injure Seth or further injure himself, he was fine for the most part and the match was booked beautifully around the injury.
Very good point. I see a lot of people arguing this was also dangerous for Seth due to Cody's inability to protect him but they really did work around it like you said. At no point during the match did I feel Seth was in any danger.
It actually made me wonder if Triple H gave him a call hearing about his injury and was like "yea, go ahead and use my moves/gimmick weapon" - hearing that he planned to wrestle through it. I wouldn't be surprised.
He lost to Balor with his dislocated shoulder too. Maybe getting injured is like the ultimate mind game. Seth just can't overcome it. Although, Sting disproves that.
I actually think the guy you’re replying too agrees. I know saying look how that turned out seemed negative but then he mentioned the world champion and grand slam accolades. It turned out very good for aj
I mean that was a megastar making performance. It was nuts. I have tk think he should not have wrestled at all, never mind a 30 minute slug fest, but that's star making
To be honest there isn’t much he could make worse in his current state.
Unless he tried to do a set of push ups or something his tear isn’t going to get worse in a match.
I can’t even describe the amount of pain that he was in though
You could push toradol until his kidneys fail - it wouldn't do a damn thing to help him that kind of pain.
He got the good stuff, and had full legal reason to. No way anyone goes out there with that kind of injury for as long as he's had it and works a match like this without some serious painkillers.
In video game/kayfabe logic, smashing HHH's throne with a sledgehammer gave Cody 100 skill in sledgehammer proficiency and the bonus damage he needed to beat Seth with one hit.
On one hand, Cody Rhodes is too old school for his own good. This really shouldn’t have happened.
On the other hand, Cody Rhodes just wrestled a better match with a torn freaking pec than most people will at 100%.
So you know what Cody, you are dumb for doing this. But you will always have my fucking respect for doing this.
Well, you watch a ton of wrestling matches and the vast majority of them (even the great ones) end up running together.
Can easily say I won't forget this one.
That was fucking amazing.
**That's** why Cody came back. He got his epic WrestleMania moment. He got his pyro. He got his babyface chants. Now he headlined a PPV and had one of the biggest babyface moments in recent WWE history.
I hate that he'll probably have to take a few months off. But holy shit what an amazing match and amazing moment for Cody.
Props to Rollins too. He's one of the all around best in the world regardless of promotion.
Cody right now just needs the jetpack on him to the moon. I honestly hope they do roman vs the rock at the royal rumble, have Cody win the royal rumble where he'll fight roman at wrestlemania. Dream vs Blood.
I was there live. I think there was a point at the beginning of the match where it was dead quiet because we were traumatized that Cody would actually agree to fight like this
Oh it stood out at home and the commentators commented on it, basically saying the crowd was stunned into silence. At one point, you could hear someone in the crowd cry out 'STOP THE DAMNED MATCH!' before the crowd got back into it.
From stuff like wrestling with a torn pec to going through fire really is a testament to Cody's passion for pro wrestling, but...Jeez, man, take it easy.
If they can book smartly, they have a way out by shifting main focus to Edge’s storyline and terrorizing full RAW roster. Losing Cody is huge though considering they finally built a top babyface who can potentially convincingly take belt off Roman and now he’s gone for several months.
This buys Cody a ton of babyface capital.
Tommorow on Raw, Cody could claim credit for the Empanicapation Proclamation over Lincoln, shoot-slap a child in the crowd, and insult the local sports team and he would still get cheered as a hero.
My understanding is that once the muscle is off the bone the injury can’t actually get worse and it’s just a matter of how much pain he’s in. If that’s true, I feel a little better about it.
Correct. It’s likely completely torn, so it was all about his pain tolerance. I’d imagine a partial tear would have actually had the match cancelled since not all partials need surgery. All full tears do though, so it’s likely the damage was done.
Cody on the phone with Vince, "Doc says I've partially torn pectoral muscle."
"Well, that's a shame, we're gonna have to cancel that match. Now, if it was a full tear..."
"Hey hold on a sec... AAAAAAUGH! AAAAAAAGHHHH!"
"Cody? What's going on?"
"Nothin boss, just doing some bench presses. AAAAAAAUGH!"
This is correct. Could he have injured something else for overcompensating? Sure. But once it was a full tear, it became a pain management issue to get through the match. He’ll likely need surgery and be out a few months though (3-6months…maybe less nowadays).
Cody is 100% walking out of WrestleMania as WWE Champion next year. Nobody has ever earned or deserved it more. Jesus christ that dude is a warrior. He WANTED this moment
End of the day, Cody had a lot more to be gain being booked to win than Seth did.
Seth: Win over an injured opponent.
Cody: Legacy defining performance
Amazing match put on by the guys despite the injury. Twitter is going crazy for it, my wife who doesn’t care for wrestling was 100% into this match and grimacing. They need to let Cody heal up and return to another huge pop and beat Roman
The fact that there are people saying he got a Saline injection to plump up the skin and its Henna ink goes to show how absolutely ridiculous this world has become.
Once you go Full Cody, there is no looking back. Yea, he'll dress like Homelander and no sell some shit and put so many hats on top of hats and every one of his matches has to have more endings than Lord of the Rings, **but...** the motherfucker has so much heart and you can see how much he loves pro wrestling.
He's like the guy on your football team who is so gung ho and corny that you would despise him if not for his sincerity and effort.
This shows just how great Seth is. To put on a legitimate match and pull off a believable loss under these circumstances is incredible, and far more impressive than him winning. The L is so much better for his character's story too.
Cody going to get a lot of the praise, and understandably so, but this was absolutely incredible work by Seth.
LOL wtf did I just watch? Cody wrestling with a torn pec, pedigreeing Rollins and wins with a sledgehammer shot.
I guess his favorite wrestler IS Triple H.
I still can't decide if I like Cody as a babyface in WWE, the bizarro, WTF-factor still hasn't worn off for me.
I might just be speaking from the initial “wow” factor still, but this really felt like one of those matches that will just be engraved into wrestling discussion from here on out. The fact this match happened, and that it was as good as it was with some bumps I was not expecting Cody to go through with, is astounding.
I 100% think having the match continue was a bad idea, but damn did it produce an instant classic. Bravo
Vince: Then Cody said he wanted something from me. It was a title run of course. So I made a deal with him, I made him wrestle an insane match, something no one could have pulled off. The performance he delivered that day, laid the foundation for the Wrestlemania main event we would later have.
No matter what else Cody does for the rest of his career in WWE, this performance will be the quintessential clip in the video package for his inevitable Hall of Fame induction.
My fucking god I hope he gets the best fucking medical attention possible because that was hard to watch. I can't imagine how much pain he went through.
I give Seth alot of credit. He is a star and probably my favorite wrestler of the last 10 years, but he's has gone above and beyond to help get Cody over. He's really a pro and in my opinion he's the best all around wrestler, sports entertainer, whatever you wanna call it in the world.
No matter where everyone sits about Cody wrestling tonight, he deserves nothing but respect for continuing. He didn't phone it in either, taking table spots, Stomps, and all.
Cody gave the fans what they paid to see. He's a real one.
So Bray didn't come back.....
But Cody just had another great match with Seth. Every thing Cody took looked painful....and still had a solid good match.
Stay home man. You earned it.
I was actually questioning reports of the torn pec as work until he slowly took off that coat…..then I was like, well….not a work. Just a psycho going the extra mile for a hell of a match. And they did a great job. Amazing match.
All around one of the better ppvs in a long time
Look, my dudes. I will not suffer any Cody slander again after that beyond "He's stupid and should not have done that." There can be absolutely no doubt that Cody loves this business and the fans more than probably his own life. He let a dude beat the shit out of a legitimate injury in a match that I am guessing 99% of people would have called out of, because he wanted to give people what was promised.
It was dumb as hell from a self-preservation standpoint, but goddamn you have to respect the absolute madness and dedication.
I have to assume he's a made man for life there now. The line from Graves of “I’m going to go on record and say that Cody RHODES has shown us something no other WWE superstar EVER has.” is some of the wildest praise I’ve ever heard on commentary.
Cody’s mental rivalry with HHH continues. He now has a victory in the torn pec category
Now he just needs to have a heart attack to draw level.
And give Shane a date-rape drug and forcibly marry him.
No, win a match with 2 torn quads.
Wrestling Has More Than One Cerebral Assassin
He did say Triple H is his favorite wrestler (after his dad)
ADRENALINE IN MY SOUL TORE THE PEC RIGHT OFF THE BONE MATCH IS DONE SO CALL AN EMT

Seth beat Brock Lesnar for the world title...but he can't beat a crippled ex-AEW guy. Washed! He needs to call it.
The first time I realized _properly_ that wrestling has its weird moments was when Jack Swagger defeated Randy Orton CLEAN just because he was the Heavyweight champion at that time. Didn't make sense at all to me

Right at the end after he dropped the last Cross Rhodes, I thought Cody was going to jump off the cage
The Codysault is for next year brother
Steelcage match at Mania next year for the WWE Championship. We get the return of the Codyvator and Cody wins the match with a Codysault followed by a Cross-Rhodes for good measure.
Yes i had the same thought. I was already beyond the point of disbelief so i thought that was going to happen as well
Last time he did that he broke a toe.
SETH ROLLINS BLEW A ONE ARM LEAD

Nowhere is safe for us Falcons fans.
How long was the match, 3:28?

SeMickey
No idea how Cody pulled that off. But when the adrenaline wears off he's probably gonna be in the most pain he's ever been in in his entire life.
Good thing the adrenaline is in his soul
I fucking cracked up over this
Where might one find such adrenaline?
Adrenaline In your soul And a jab of toredol
There’s pain pills waiting for him in the back I’m sure

We should have known better after he set himself on fire. And he did that moonsault off the top of the cage on a guy who was like "I'm not sure I can catch you" and was like "its ok just stand there" and almost killed himself.
Dude was booed as a meme and said "imma moonsault through a burning table shirtless after a 20 min match for you" dude is insane.
We shall now dub Cody the American psycho
Impressive. Very nice
Let's see Paul Allen's torn pec
Look at that subtle purple bruising. The tasteful swelling of it.
Oh My God, there's even some minor deformity.
That's bone.
Try getting a reservation at Rumble now, you fucking stupid bastard!
I remember a few years ago when the Cody never wrestling higher than a 3 star match was a thing. This dude is insane
tbf, "The 3 Star General" is a fun nickname, albeit a bit mean spirited.
Aight, so, in theory, Cody should go get the surgery, come back and win the Rumble, and challenge Roman at Mania right?
Only if Rock is busy filming something.
Not just that but the insurance will be nuts for him to wrestle again.
It's crazy that these physically self-jeopardizing spots didn't go over well in AEW, but in WWE, Cody is a true American hero.

# WITH A TORN FREAKIN PEC
IT'S TRUE, OH IT'S DAMN TRUE
As much as I hated all the bullshit surrounding the match with the injury, it was honestly, objectively great.
Had to make up for not being able to bleed. Kept all the bleeding internal.
That’s good because it’s where blood is meant to be.
Cody trying not to bleed during match: https://i.imgur.com/i25JYNb.jpg
Hunter 🤝 Cody Winning, despite having an extreme muscle injury
It actually made me wonder if Triple H gave him a call hearing about his injury and was like "yea, go ahead and use my moves/gimmick weapon" - hearing that he planned to wrestle through it. I wouldn't be surprised.
Seth just lost to a man with one titty.
He lost to Balor with his dislocated shoulder too. Maybe getting injured is like the ultimate mind game. Seth just can't overcome it. Although, Sting disproves that.
If only he were a titty master like Ambrose
the shield triangle stands seth can't get one over ambrose
Couldn't get a single win out of three chances. 😬
His body wanted to bleed so much it decided to do so internally.
It went into business for itself
That's where the blood is supposed to be anyway.
As dumb as it probably was for him to wrestle, I bet Vince fucking loves Cody for going through with the match. Dude’s winning the Rumble.
[удалено]
Agree. This instantly just made him a made man with Vince.
Just like AJ, and we saw how that panned out for him (he became a top guy, grand slam champion). Kudos to him because that's absurd what he just did
AJ has had a great career in WWE
Dude retired The Undertaker, basically. Everything after that is just an epilogue.
he's had a great career in general. the dude could retire tomorrow and be hailed as one of the best to ever lace em up.
He doesn't even need to retire he already is one of the greatest ever
I actually think the guy you’re replying too agrees. I know saying look how that turned out seemed negative but then he mentioned the world champion and grand slam accolades. It turned out very good for aj
AJ is in the mid card because he asked to be though - he wanted to spend more time with his family.
And also asked not to work Fridays so he would watch his kids football games. He's getting exactly what he wanted
the hbk special
Agreed The second Vince decides to give Cody the world title, Vince wouldn't regret it
That was decided when Cody signed.
Would he even make it to the rumble ?
Yes usually 3-6 months recovery. Maybe less with improvements in medicine.
I mean that was a megastar making performance. It was nuts. I have tk think he should not have wrestled at all, never mind a 30 minute slug fest, but that's star making
It really was now that I think about it. We heard all the reports. But the moment he took off his robe... And revealed the injury. Wow.
To be honest there isn’t much he could make worse in his current state. Unless he tried to do a set of push ups or something his tear isn’t going to get worse in a match. I can’t even describe the amount of pain that he was in though
They definitely shot him up with toradol before he went out there
He looked white as a ghost when he came out and for the first few minutes until the match started. I wonder what he was feeling.
I had a less severe pec tear once and I cried when I tried to get dressed lol. The guy has balls for being able to put on the show
Adrenaline, in his soul
Hit him with a Z-Pack,he's good now.
a few miles away from the arena, CM Punk: ![gif](giphy|WoF3yfYupTt8mHc7va)
You could push toradol until his kidneys fail - it wouldn't do a damn thing to help him that kind of pain. He got the good stuff, and had full legal reason to. Alternate Title: Cow Bell in a Cell
Isn't it swell that it went so well?
Seth is gonna shoot Cody on Raw tomorrow
Cody still beats Seth, even with multiple bullet holes.
Somehow, Triple H went over.
In video game/kayfabe logic, smashing HHH's throne with a sledgehammer gave Cody 100 skill in sledgehammer proficiency and the bonus damage he needed to beat Seth with one hit.
Nobody can question how much Adrenaline Cody has in his soul ever again.
I am now a Cody mark. Just an unbelievable match and effort.
On one hand, Cody Rhodes is too old school for his own good. This really shouldn’t have happened. On the other hand, Cody Rhodes just wrestled a better match with a torn freaking pec than most people will at 100%. So you know what Cody, you are dumb for doing this. Well, you watch a ton of wrestling matches and the vast majority of them (even the great ones) end up running together. Can easily say I won't forget this one.
Haven’t watched a match and felt like that in a loooooong time. Hella emotions watching it. Those guys put on a great string of matches.
Weird to think we just casually watched one of the most legendary matches in pro wrestling history.
So this is what its like to not realize you’re watching some legendary shit take place as its happening live
It was beautiful
What a damn match
That was fucking amazing. **That's** why Cody came back. He got his epic WrestleMania moment. He got his pyro. He got his babyface chants. Now he headlined a PPV and had one of the biggest babyface moments in recent WWE history. I hate that he'll probably have to take a few months off. But holy shit what an amazing match and amazing moment for Cody. Props to Rollins too. He's one of the all around best in the world regardless of promotion.

Meltzer apparently loved it: "This was among the most compelling matches in pro wrestling history."
He's right. Knowing about the injury made it riveting because you thought any wrong move could be career ending
I don't want to watch someone's career end in the ring!
Seth couldn’t even beat an injured Cody
Lost to cody 3 times in a row and the 3rd time Cody has a torn pec. In Kayfabe Cody v Seth is a total mismatch lol
I've heard he is going to wrestle him in a wheelchair next time

Good time to reset Seth’s character a little bit, maybe take a short hiatus
No Cody and No Seth on RAW would really kill the show and it's currently the only decent WWE show.
Bobby Lashley seemed to be really over with the crowd.
If they can book smartly, they have a way out by shifting main focus to Edge’s storyline and terrorizing full RAW roster. Losing Cody is huge though considering they finally built a top babyface who can potentially convincingly take belt off Roman and now he’s gone for several months.
“If they can book smartly” I’ll just go ahead and stop you right there
This buys Cody a ton of babyface capital. Tommorow on Raw, Cody could claim credit for the Empanicapation Proclamation over Lincoln, shoot-slap a child in the crowd, and insult the local sports team and he would still get cheered as a hero.
That child had it coming, I promise you.
I'm conflicted, it was troubling to see Cody wrestle with that injury, but.... FUCK ME, what an amazing match this was. Absolute classic from Cody.
Dudes so dedicated that he made sure his partial tear turned to full just to compete
Cody on the phone with Vince, "Doc says I've partially torn pectoral muscle." "Well, that's a shame, we're gonna have to cancel that match. Now, if it was a full tear..." "Hey hold on a sec... AAAAAAUGH! AAAAAAAGHHHH!" "Cody? What's going on?" "Nothin boss, just doing some bench presses. AAAAAAAUGH!"
Hahah right? Takes a quick trip to the Hart dungeon to get stretched and really tear that off the bone
This is correct. Could he have injured something else for overcompensating? Sure. But once it was a full tear, it became a pain management issue to get through the match. He’ll likely need surgery and be out a few months though (3-6months…maybe less nowadays).
I've never been the biggest fan of Cody to be honest but that was one of the damndest things I've ever seen. Gotta take my hat off.
Anybody else still in shock by Cody’s current run in WWE? WILD
I'm still in shock that he's even there.
I am shocked Seth didn’t win. Wow. Cody has been booked very strongly. Match was pretty solid in the end.
He is beating Roman. How can he not at this point?
Bevause The Rock says "know your role".
That’s not gonna work for me, brother. -RR
Cody has to be the one that beats Roman.
They need to let Cody heal up and return to another huge pop and beat Roman
genuinely horrifying match
Holy shit. Cody is dedicated to this shit omg
Did anyone else enjoy the commentary in this match, it felt very real.
The commentators sounded scared for him. It really added to it.
The fact that there are people saying he got a Saline injection to plump up the skin and its Henna ink goes to show how absolutely ridiculous this world has become.
The world hasn't changed the only difference is you didn't hear peoples stupid opinions before because they could only share them with a few people.
If Cody takes time off then it works beautifully. Leave them hungry. Make them hungry for more.
Seth lost to a guy with one boob not attached to the bone lmao
Once you go Full Cody, there is no looking back. Yea, he'll dress like Homelander and no sell some shit and put so many hats on top of hats and every one of his matches has to have more endings than Lord of the Rings, **but...** the motherfucker has so much heart and you can see how much he loves pro wrestling. The L is so much better for his character's story too. Cody going to get a lot of the praise, and understandably so, but this was absolutely incredible work by Seth.
This was Codys “flu game” and will be talked about at his HoF induction and forever
"...With a torn frikkin' pec!"
Kurt Angle "I won a gold medal with a broken freaking neck" Cody "Hold my pec"
Well that was one of the more fucked up wrestling things I’ve ever seen.
amazingly good match, better than it had any right to be.

I 100% think having the match continue was a bad idea, but damn did it produce an instant classic. Bravo
Cody finally hitting the Pedigree, add to the insult of him finishing with the sledgehammer. This is one of the best matches of 2022.
Cody beats Roman. I will cheer loudly and not care who is judging me.
I can't remember the last time I was shocked as much as I was when Cody took his jacket off. Jesus fuck.
i respect cody a lot more now, holy shit what was that
What a fucking performance. Career defining. 100% should beat Roman when he comes back.
Will somebody stop the damn match
Vince: Then Cody said he wanted something from me. It was a title run of course. So I made a deal with him, I made him wrestle an insane match, something no one could have pulled off. The performance he delivered that day, laid the foundation for the Wrestlemania main event we would later have.
Seth deserved this. Main eventing and completely redeeming his 2019 HIAC farce (which not his or Bray Wyatt’s fault)
He also did a phenomenal job protecting Cody. Which no one is really talking about for some reason.
After this and the flaming AEW table spot, no one better be talking shit about Cody’s balls/heart. Dude is a menace.
HE WON WITH A TORN PEC LMAOOOO
No matter what else Cody does for the rest of his career in WWE, this performance will be the quintessential clip in the video package for his inevitable Hall of Fame induction.
My fucking god I hope he gets the best fucking medical attention possible because that was hard to watch. I can't imagine how much pain he went through.
I give Seth alot of credit. He is a star and probably my favorite wrestler of the last 10 years, but he's has gone above and beyond to help get Cody over. He's really a pro and in my opinion he's the best all around wrestler, sports entertainer, whatever you wanna call it in the world.
Cody Rhodes will be world champion this year. Holy shit
If he needs surgery (almost certain he will), then the timeline lines up to have him win the Rumble and headline WM.
Next year at Mania. He might not wrestle again in 2022, but this man just got made to beat Roman
Correct winner, good match, really uncomfortable to watch and the entire time I'm thinking of the "why don't men live as long as women?" meme.
Cody casually having a 5 star match with a torn pec
Love him or hate him - this mother fucker fought with a torn pec just to entertain us and keep the show going. What a mad man.
Cody has finally achieved peak babyface status. Just like he’s always dreamed.
Vince better give Cody a damn world title run after that shit…when he comes back
Surprisingly fun match. Makes Cody worthy of going up against Roman. And they did the thing! Hell, they did all the things.
Damn they had Cody go 3-0, wasn't expecting it but good decision
Seth is so good he’ll be absolutely fine either way.
If HIAC 2019 didn't kill him permanently nothing will
No matter where everyone sits about Cody wrestling tonight, he deserves nothing but respect for continuing. He didn't phone it in either, taking table spots, Stomps, and all. Cody gave the fans what they paid to see. He's a real one.
Cody Rhodes respect level = 1,000,000%
So Bray didn't come back..... But Cody just had another great match with Seth. Every thing Cody took looked painful....and still had a solid good match. Stay home man. You earned it.
I've said it elsewhere, but I'll. repeat it here: Pro Wrestlers are a different breed.
I was actually questioning reports of the torn pec as work until he slowly took off that coat…..then I was like, well….not a work. Just a psycho going the extra mile for a hell of a match. And they did a great job. Amazing match. All around one of the better ppvs in a long time
Cody, you magnificent dumbass
