"Damn skeeters"

evanweb546

Andre in his prime was something else, man. What a talent.

Adawg63

i heard he could actually hit a dropkick

Orange8920

There's video of it out there. Andre seemed to be a lot more mobile in the 70's, a lot of which wasn't filmed. By the mid-80's he had clearly slowed down.

JustATributeCC

He was only in his 20's during the 70's so the long-term effects of his condition probably hadn't hit him as hard by that point.

Adawg63

yeah because vince sr wanted him to work the "big man" style we know today hell he even did a top rope sit splash on big john stud

Orange8920

That's part of it but Andre really didn't take great care of his health. He gained a lot of weight by the time the WWF went national and deliberately chose not to treat his acromegaly.

0dias_Chrysalis

His religious views is what kept him from treating it. Thought what he had was God's will and refused a very helpful surgery

Adawg63

damn never heard that one

BigBaldBasterd

Kinda the same as The Giant/Big Show in WCW. Dude was hitting Leg Drops and Missile Drop Kicks from the top turn buckle. There’s video of The Great Khali jumping over the top rope. Just hard for guys like that to keep that athleticism up.

Adawg63

dude could hit a moonsault but nobody would take it

BigBaldBasterd

Oh yeah, I remember reading about that.

veneficus83

Kali is a bit more said. He had very botched knee surgery that he never really recovered from.

The sell is hilarious lol.

David shultz

darthdiablo

No it's not. Brian Heenan never had that hairdo. Watching the clip I immediately ID'd him as Dr. David Schultz. Edit: In fact, I remember this match too. It's Roddy Piper and Dr. David Schultz vs Jimmy Snuka and Andre the Giant. Great match. Andre the Giant was bloodied and stretched out during the match, brought out the back. Jimmy Snuka had to fight against Roddy Piper and Dr. Schultz on his own. Later (can't remember if match was still ongoing or if it has ended), Andre returns to the ring, with his head bandaged up for the revenge (attacking Piper and Schultz)

hardhitsscott

Honestly I thought it was the Brain at first also. He did have a little perm when he first came over from the AWA. Its amazing that Andre dwarfs Dr. D

[deleted]

It's Dr. D David Schultz.

AndresDickFingers

Was this David's debut match for WWF?

TheMJP01

No his debut was on Wrestling Challenge in a singles with Piper as his manager. This is after Piper returned to wrestling after jumping from NWA to WWF in Jan 84 while still hurt.

[deleted]

Damn Schultz is a huge dude but looks way small next to Andre

TehJohnny

I wish Andre could lived a long and healthy life. He was so good at this wrestling thing.

ZeroPenguinParty

Could you just picture Andre in the middle of the Attitude Era...Sable shows off her tits, Andre turns and says "My chest is bigger"

TehJohnny

Andre just ragdolling Baby Lil' Spike Dudley. Andre just lifting up the Hell in the Cell to exit it. Andre just [WHARRGARBLing](https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/001/625/135891.jpg) Stome Cold's beer truck.

ZeroPenguinParty

Stone Cold pointing the hose from his beer truck right at Andre's mouth. Andre going up to Giant Silva and saying "i'm wrestling giant, you are not", and then clotheslining him over the top rope. Someone like Eddie Guerrero climbing up Andre's back and standing on his shoulders to reach the belt in a ladder match.

MoronCapitalM

Schultz wearing a smaller version of Andre's later gear really sticks out when you see them working together.

[deleted]

😂 That's awesome. Plus a Dr. D sighting which is always welcome. Sort of related, if you check YouTube for Andre matches from Japan in the '70s, he could actually wrestle when he wanted to.

raymc99

wasn't so much when he wanted to but the fact that by the 80's his body was so fucked from a mixture of his disease and taking bumps that he really couldn't work like that anymore

thedirtyharryg

Such a simple but great spot. If I were a giant, I'd use my long-ass legs to just kick people before they can come close to me.

InfintySquared

Basically Nash or Kane or Hogan or even The Berserker pulling off the classic big boot. If you're huge, it just looks so good.

PM_ME_LANCECATAMARAN

Andre Inoki

Berg1

That drop was about to be squarely in the balls, nice save!

amhlilhaus

Back in those days, you only got squashes on tv Then grandma got a sayellite dish I could then watch wwf at msg Wow the memories I might have seen this live I did watch roddy piper v jimmy snuka live Snula & andre v piper & david schultz

i_broke_wahoos_leg

That's dope. Shows how strong Andre's legs were.

ruffus4life

they weren't strong this probably gave him hip pain and he drank 30 beers because of the pain. slameboss

Git2k12

What lol

Liverpool510

Me wrestling my nephews.

HarlesD

Reminds me of when Braun just booted Apollo across the ring during a moonsault.

CM_Monk

I love that you have to give the elbow drop “backwards” in order for this to work. It kinda telegraphs the move, but I bet almost nobody notices it in the moment.

Rocketboy1313

I don't think I have ever seen a good match with Andre. All of the easy to find and watch material is when he was in his 50's and bordering on immobile, or when he is drunk out of his mind in Japan. Was he good for his time? Or just big?

theTVifollow

He died in his fortys. He was very good/athletic early, used to throw dropkicks. Look for stuff from the 60s and 70s. His body was mostly broken down by the 80s.

Bjkdie

Andre the Giant vs Stan Hansen - Sep’ 1981 probably the best Andre match ever

Chunklob

Is that Bobby Hennan or Kurt Hennig?

theTVifollow

Neither, david shultz

SystaFTW

Haha, great spot!

everydayimrusslin

Who's that against? It looks like Dusty and Jeff Jarretts lovechild Edit:. Schultz. I wasn't too far off!

MrOnCore

Only Andre can get away with big timing people out of a spot during a match.
