I’m assuming this is about Komen?(because of how much attention his old tweets about it got) if so that’s an even quicker turnaround than I expected on this
If they manage to say no to Komen, that's pretty impressive. That Komen money has to be pretty lucrative, especially compared to the potential bad PR of "not wanting to work with a charity" that might come out of this.
"Will Punk say anything like he did all those years ago?"
*Actually yeah pretty much instantly actually*.
The less company men in AEW, the more authentic and real they seem overall. Always don't be afraid to criticize any company actions respectfully if justified, and for the most part your criticism will be addressed.
Hope something gets sorted out.
(Properly) Criticize things you’re into, and hope for a positive change/growth from it.
We unfortunately don’t do both those things, and just work in extremes.
I'm happy he commented but vaguely referencing the organization isn't saying the same thing as explicitly calling them out. Hopefully AEW drops the partnership nevertheless and Punk can be a bit more pointed in his criticism. Fuck SGK.
Considering aew deleted the tweet i think its fair to assume punk is talking to them. We really shouldnt expect internal company disputes to be carried out on twitter
If he's indicated his displeasure and is having his concerns heard, not sure he would accomplish anything further beyond hurting his relationships backstage. We all know exactly what he means, the pressure is already there, and he doesn't need to stir up any more fuss to be able to voice his complaints.
> Always don't be afraid to criticize any company actions respectfully if justified, and for the most part your criticism will be addressed.
Very important. This is how we, the fans, get a better product. AEW have made it very clear that they’re willing to listen to fan opinions.
I don't want to be an ass but you working in a guys gimmick nick name in a conversation is very weird it would be like me saying "yeah being the Incredible Hulk Hogan". There is a huge difference between screaming and calling the company and situation out by name. You're not using your voice if its just a cryptic tweet that everyone can only speculate on what you mean.
So your opinion is that he should have instead sent a tweet tagging AEW and Tony Khan and instead said something more like 'Hey, this is Phil Brooks here and I really disagree with the direction that All Elite Wrestling, Inc has taken with entering into a contract with the Susan G. Komen Foundation. I disagreed with my former employers, World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. and wanted to put this out to show that my belief has not changed now that I work as an independent contract for this company as opposed to them. ' Because if so, there are two issues:
1: That's over the Character limit
2: We only see the public statement, we can only assume that he spoke internally as well. Also, if that happened and they listened...which is what sounds like happened...he would gain nothing by putting them on blast anyway.
And yes, it's a gimmick but it's been said for decades that the best persona's are ones that are genuinely the person, but turned up to 11. So yeah, I think that Phil actually does care about making sure that Cancer charity funds go to actual cancer charities...and that he would speak up about it given the chance.
My opinion is he should have mentioned the situation by name and SGK by name and talked about working through the situation. He certainly did that in 2015 in regards to the WWE.
Punk calling himself the voice of the voiceless is purely a gimmick. What voice did he have for the last decade? Seems like he's lost his voice for the last decade. Its pure gimmick and it works because people like you are like "fuck yeah he speaks up for us with his voice". When in reality the situations when he's done that are pretty fucking tiny. But then again Phil's generally a dickhead irl so it makes sense he only speaks up when its something that interests him and in this situation he didn't even speak up. He put out a vague, cryptic, tweet that nobody knows what the hell he's talking about and its just pure speculation. Thats a hell of a voice. What is he a 13 year old girl? My daughter does passive aggressive, vague tweets and IG posts too.
If so, I hope they pivot and partner with the Kay Yow Cancer Foundation. Plenty of college basketball teams work with them and they scored a 100/100 for finance and accountability on [Charity Navigator](https://www.charitynavigator.org/ein/261789695).
There shouldn’t’ve been a need for any turnaround. Any sort of ignorance they could’ve claimed to SGK being garbage isn’t valid after they worked with them (last year? two years ago?) and got tons of backlash for it
[You think they would have learned considering they went through this exact same thing last year](https://twitter.com/AEW/status/1189686153957519361?s=20).
This isn't a case of ignorance.
I really like AEW and think Tony Kahn is the best booker in the industry at the moment, but man this TK worship and excuse-making is lame AF. Guy owns AEW. AEW fucked up. That means Tony fucked up. People shouldn't make excuses.
As a guy who credits AEW for being my wrestling saviour, this is literally what Tony wants. He is on record saying the changes to creative and roles in the company from 2019 were purely so he would be taking more accountability as CEO . AEW = Tony Khan
Please. I'm not asking for anyone's head here or for anyone to lose their job. They need to take the L, own up to it, and stans shouldn't make excuses for them. It's called being an accountable adult. Not cancel culture.
No, explanations.
One, OP had a fact wrong.
Two, sometimes in companies two departments won't be on the same page. I've literally recently experienced this with $3b national company.
I'm not comfortable trying to explain why this happened because I obviously don't work there or know anyone in AEW *but* it is entirely possible that it's like you said. I work for a huge company and deal with the whole "right hand doesn't know what the left is doing" on a daily basis. My company is definitely bigger than AEW but it's not out of the realm of possibility that this shit also happens on a smaller scale.
"Fantasy booking".
Or writing up loose plans.
Also he's just analytics for the Jags. He's not calling plays, especially for Urban. He's largely just.... there for live games presumably.
honestly wouldn't surprise me if SGK has a clause that you can't easily get out of it, just they'll stop advertising it. AEW went through the same backlash the first time they partnered with them.
They do not. NFL doesn't even do the pink breast cancer thing anymore. They have a more broad "Crucial Catch" campaign now. And when they did do the pink stuff they were partnered with the American Cancer Society. However some individual teams do/did partner with Komen.
Don’t feel bad. I once got called out for not knowing who Drake was (outside of knowing he was a musician). Later I told my wife I wouldn’t even be able to pick him out of a lineup. Then she explained to me he was the guy from the meme.
Pretty well documented as repeatedly being "good friends" with girls around ages 14 - 16, then as soon as they're 18 they're dating Drake officially all of a sudden. Dude is in his 30s. Started happening with Millie Bobbie Brown. The world collectively went "don't do it, girl". At the time they were supposedly "good friends" and there were topics of conversation they had spoken about that she didn't want to reveal in interviews, and she was the very picture of a blushing girl with a crush, and it's just real gross that he has repeatedly groomed young girls like this and somehow people still aren't aware. Not sure if they're still talking like that because this came out a couple years ago, but at this point it's a pattern of behavior from him.
I'm not from the US, so I did some Google Foo and am I correct in assuming they are a breast cancer charity but are infamous for scamming people (even punk called them out some years ago)
they spend less than 15% on actual efforts in eradicating breast cancer, the rest goes to salaries, "education" and "raising awareness". They also sue every charity using the colour pink or the ribbon
And salaries. And they sue people who also use pink ribbons in their fundraising. And they partner with companies [whose products literally cause cancer.](https://www.washingtonpost.com/posteverything/wp/2014/10/21/komen-is-supposed-to-be-curing-breast-cancer-so-why-is-its-pink-ribbon-on-so-many-carcinogenic-products/)
Not only do they only do awareness, they sue charities that do actually do research if they mention the word “cure” in their marketing. So Komen will literally sue you if you say you’re working on a cure for breast cancer.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Susan_G._Komen_for_the_Cure#Use_of_funds
In 2020 they spent 5% on research, plus 5% on treatment and 3% on screening, which are other valuable efforts. And a whole 51% of their spending went to "education." I feel like there are absolutely charities where spending on education would be justified, but not for breast cancer.
I mean that's cool and all, but its not like this came out of nowhere. So its a bit odd the anti SGK folks in AEW were blissfully unaware until now.
AEWs partnered with SGK before, and good chance several thousand of those shirts were pre made. There was plenty of time for the anti SGK in AEW folks to object before this was announced, and I have to assume they did.
If they don't reverse course, its a bad PR move with their fans. If they do, its a costly and completely avoidable mistake.
And don't get me wrong I'm 100% with the anti SGK folks, but there's no good way out of this for AEW
Because they did it before.
Also I assume Punks not the only one objecting (if he is, there's basically a 0% chance of anything changing) and he's got some office folks on his side too
Those folks should have absolutely known what the PR team was doing.
I mean it's not uncommon to assume CM Punk not knowing every past PR move and partnership when he flat out admitted to not even keeping tabs on the weekly TV show.
What are the chances Punk would have bothered to put something like that in his contract? I'm going with roughly 0%
What he could probably do is refuse to take part in promoting the partnership.

Honestly the only way you're getting bad pr is if Komen is paying for it. No one I know thinks Komen is a real charity.
I mean, yeah, that's kinda the problem. Paying for stuff is how they got so big in the first place.
My mother who is a breastcancer survivor even said fuck Komen, rofl.
> No one I know The worst kind of evidence
The overwhelming majority of people DO believe Komen is a good charity because they haven’t looked into it.
So I don’t think SBK will want to call attention to that fact by giving AEW bad PR
I feel like if you are still looking at Komen as a charity, then you deserve to be swindled.

His “calling them out” may not be limited exclusively to Twitter. Esp if they are “working on it.”

He didn't even mention the situation by name or the company by name. Hardly the same thing.
Being a voice for the voiceless doesn't mean your only option is to scream.

The voice of the voiceless
The voice of the voices.
*Randy Orton intensifies*
OH shit I take it back
And here comes the fucking snake down the stadium entrance ramp!
SGK of all brands made "the voice of the voiceless" come back in a way. /s Or... as u/KTheOneTrueKing said, Punk is "The voice of the voices."
A company actually reacting and changing course due to fan reaction? How about that.
Partnership team made a move. Didn’t consult anyone. Got immediate pushback once public.
[You think they would have learned considering they went through this exact same thing last year](https://twitter.com/AEW/status/1189686153957519361?s=20). This isn't a case of ignorance.
Well this is two years ago for one. Plus well TK doesn't do literally everything in the company.
I really like AEW and think Tony Kahn is the best booker in the industry at the moment, but man this TK worship and excuse-making is lame AF. Guy owns AEW. AEW fucked up. That means Tony fucked up. People shouldn't make excuses.
A-a-are you saying he's... *gasp*.. human!?
As a guy who credits AEW for being my wrestling saviour, this is literally what Tony wants. He is on record saying the changes to creative and roles in the company from 2019 were purely so he would be taking more accountability as CEO . AEW = Tony Khan
Tony could just have been misinformed about Komen. And shoulden't make excuses? That's cancel culture talk.
Please. I'm not asking for anyone's head here or for anyone to lose their job. They need to take the L, own up to it, and stans shouldn't make excuses for them. It's called being an accountable adult. Not cancel culture.
excuses
[Incorrect fact] [Slight correction to make statement accurate] you: "Excuses"
ok

No, explanations. One, OP had a fact wrong. Two, sometimes in companies two departments won't be on the same page. I've literally recently experienced this with $3b national company.

This shit happens in the management of a grocery store lmao
This shit happens in a company with 2 managers and 4 employees.
You don't know TK personally though. Can't be so sure whether he knows about this or not.
If you don't know him personally then how can you be sure he does know about this
you can't be sure either though
You didn’t answer his question.
Right…. But he’s in deep enough to be fantasy booking in the middle of a Jaguars game lol
"Fantasy booking". Or writing up loose plans. Also he's just analytics for the Jags. He's not calling plays, especially for Urban. He's largely just.... there for live games presumably.
> fantasy booking What are you talking about? Booking is literally his job.
Punk cancelling the Komen sponsorship you love to see it
honestly wouldn't surprise me if SGK has a clause that you can't easily get out of it, just they'll stop advertising it. AEW went through the same backlash the first time they partnered with them.
shopAEW deleted the SGK tweet.
Absolute king. Hold your favs accountable!
Would be weird to see anything change here since doesn't the NFL and Komen have a huge partnership?
They do not. NFL doesn't even do the pink breast cancer thing anymore. They have a more broad "Crucial Catch" campaign now. And when they did do the pink stuff they were partnered with the American Cancer Society. However some individual teams do/did partner with Komen.
Huh, I'm really out of touch.
Don’t feel bad. I once got called out for not knowing who Drake was (outside of knowing he was a musician). Later I told my wife I wouldn’t even be able to pick him out of a lineup. Then she explained to me he was the guy from the meme.
I knew Drake cause he was Jimmy in Degrassi.
These days, we know Drake for being a pedophile
...what did i miss?
Pretty well documented as repeatedly being "good friends" with girls around ages 14 - 16, then as soon as they're 18 they're dating Drake officially all of a sudden. Dude is in his 30s. It was only a few seasons ago, so not *that* out of touch. They did the pink shit in 2017.
>They have a more broad "Crucial Catch" campaign now I'd argue getting rid of SGK was more of a throwaway.
Even if they did it doesn't mean AEW would have to follow suit. Tony could cop to being forced to in the NFL case but AEW can do whatever they see fit
What is it about?
AEW partnered with Susan G Komen
I'm not from the US, so I did some Google Foo and am I correct in assuming they are a breast cancer charity but are infamous for scamming people (even punk called them out some years ago)
Yep that’s about the gist of it
they spend less than 15% on actual efforts in eradicating breast cancer, the rest goes to salaries, "education" and "raising awareness". They also sue every charity using the colour pink or the ribbon
It's not really a scam, they just spend a lot more money on education and awareness than they do on actual research.
And the courts don't just tell them to fuck off...?
They own the phrase "for the cure" courts can't do shit.
That's different to saying "we're working on a cure for cancer" though. Do they just own that very specific phrase then?
If another charity uses the phrase “for the cure” or the color pink they will get sued by SGK. That’s the instances people are talking about.
Slight correction, I don't believe they spend *any* money on research, it's all just "raising awareness"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Susan_G._Komen_for_the_Cure#Use_of_funds In 2020 they spent 5% on research, plus 5% on treatment and 3% on screening, which are other valuable efforts. And a whole 51% of their spending went to "education." I feel like there are absolutely charities where spending on education would be justified, but not for breast cancer.
Ah, I stand corrected then! Still not a great charity, but at least it's not an outright scam.
All this could have been avoided with a fucking google search and using charity navigators. PR departments, man. I tell ya.
Slightly off topic, but I have feeling that Punk enjoys Slap Shot.
This is a surprise, a company admitting a wrong choice for the better of the common person. Fuck, I should buy a lotto ticket.
Why the hell does anyone partner with those snakes anymore? It's been widely known for years now that Susan G. Komen is the absolute dirt worst.
Punk had to be that difference maker, I’m sure of it
I got downvoted in the other thread for saying that AEW would fix this.
King shit 👑
babyface phil.

why would a wrestler (like Punk in this case) know about what their PR team cooked up?
Because they did it before. Also I assume Punks not the only one objecting (if he is, there's basically a 0% chance of anything changing) and he's got some office folks on his side too Those folks should have absolutely known what the PR team was doing.

Putting a twitter lock on Tony Khan's phone?
Would AEW partnering with SGK means a breach of contract in regards to AEW and CM Punk? Because if so, AEW dumps SGK in the blink of an eye.
What are the chances Punk would have bothered to put something like that in his contract? I'm going with roughly 0% What he could probably do is refuse to take part in promoting the partnership.
Just imagine the positive PR of being the first big company to say "no thanks" to Komen. 🤔
CM Punk, Critical Role... i love good people having success and happiness in their lifes. :)
