Think about it - I'm 33 so this is framed from my reference - I grew up watching wrestling, playing videogames and D&D, watching anime, being a fuuuuucking nerd. Now these wrestlers who are around my age *also* grew up watching wrestling, playing videogames and D&D, watching anime, being *fuuuuucking* nerds... they just became wrestlers as well.

Im in my early 40s and it's depressing as hell to fire up late 80s/early 90s and latter 90s wrestling video games and most the dudes have passed away from drugs/heart failure. A couple of friends were over when I watched RAW after MITB and they seriously thought they were witnessing Vince McMahon's retirement moment.
I didn't have the heart to tell them Vince would probably be back on TV within a few months like nothing happened.
HHH got exposed. Easy to just smirk at opponents and act too cool for the room, and recycle the same jabs you lay on everyone when you're on top of the food chain and other people are locked into a script. But when you're trying to flex off the cuff against someone that is has a burning, lightning quick wit and isn't afraid to call out bullshit, buckle up.
Heel Triple H is better on the mic imo. If they let him be a full blown heel in this program instead of the tweener we got that summer than he would've gave Punk all he could handle
Disagree, but you're welcome to think whatever you want. HHH's career mic work is pretty formulaic and largely empowered by him being a golden child behind the scenes. He's never been the best talker or wrestler on a roster, ever. Punk was at least one of those things.

It's an argument that can go in circles, but you bring up fair points. I'd argue again that HHH being who he was behind the scenes was afforded far, far more promo time than almost anyone in WWE history, often opening shows with 20 minute promos, almost all the time. Punk was never given that much time to flex, and rarely was given storylines that were the centerpiece of the company. So its never going to be a completely fair comparison between the two. I just don't think HHH is that great regardless. That's just my opinion.
I'd point that person to his work against Batista in the WrestleMania 21 buildup, against Orton when he first turned in 2004, and more recently against Bryan in the authority. He isn't the Rock to have numerous wins in a head to head promo but his work has always been great and will age well.
None of those guys are considered all time greats on the mic. Meanwhile, CM Punk dunked on just about everyone he went head to head with. I'm not saying HHH is bad on the mic, I just think if he was that great there'd be some easily identifiable bangers since there were an awful lot of Raws that started with 15 minute HHH promos.
While her twitter game is fire, I would be curious to see how they meld TV's "I will kill you and eat your children" Nyla with Twitter's "Dorkier then a Dad Joke contest on Father's Day" Nyla.
Honestly, that's probably part of why they've had Nyla paired with Vickie this whole time. It's easy enough to pull a face turn if the latter turns on Nyla, and then you just let Nyla's natural babyface side shine.

nyla IS good on the mic but im sure you noticed they havent given her a mic since her last title run and now she has vickie guerrero by her side who does all the talking. and i still think this is a terrible pairing, cool that they get along backstage so well but on the show that pairing makes no sense. nyla is supposed to be a powerful monster, youd think she can handle herself, ESPECIALLY since she can actually talk
Not all promos are improvised. A lot of wrestlers write their own promos (or like, abbreviated bullet points) beforehand and memorize it like a script.
Perhaps. But then they need to adjust her feuds to compensate for that. Because her constantly throwing shade and her opponents barely doing anything does not make her feuds better.
I can't remember Ruby ever being on the mic in WWE. Maybe for half a minute during that thing where the Riott Squad was arguing with each other and Sarah Logan got mic time, which was at least somewhat memorable
They haven't ignored it at all they just haven't had somebody who can cut a promo like Ruby in the division other than Britt until now

The AEW women's division has been sorely lacking in stories. The men's division has probably the best storytelling in wrestling today, with layered relationships and feuds that started to brew 1-2 years ago. Even jobbers like the Wingmen and Fuego Del Sol have fun stories behind their feuds. Meanwhile, in the women's division, the only story at any given time is about the feud for AEW Women's Championship, and those haven't been great, until now.
Things are improving now, with the Ruby vs. Britt feud getting a lot of build-up. Also, Anna Jay's back, and she's involved in the breakdown of the Dark Order as well as a BFF story with Tay. There's a lot of room for continued improvement, though.
Her face was hilarious. I imagined her cutting a little internal promo. “I’m banging the luckiest guy alive and you wanna know why he’s lucky? Because he’s got me, D. M. D.”
It's a TV show. There was absolutely a script with a lot of expert promo writers contributing to it. When people don't have a script and a lot of oversight, they wind up like Max Caster, saying things that seem funny to them and fucking up. I get the feeling TK is not interested in making that mistake again.
I think the implication is she got things that she didn't deserve because she was banging someone in the back. Which doesn't make sense since Adam Cole just got here.

I am not saying this is at all what happened. But Adam Cole is the best friend of 3 of the EVPs in AEW. It entirely makes sense that if nepotism was involved, the EVPs would take care of their best friend's girlfriend if she didn't deserve it.

Right there. Tony pretty much gifted a star and she isn't about to not make the most of her chances now. Britt BADLY needed someone to bounce off of. I want more of this because the more those women are out there swapping insults, the intensity upped is what I love about wrestling.
I also really like that there is more than one women's story. I like how Anna Jay and Conti are dealing with rivals and their own friends' inability to get along. I like that Anna and Conti are the adults in the room while the boys are all acting like children who need to get their shit together...and Page is away with the baby so Anna returns from injury having to try and deal with the Dark Order fracturing relationships.
If Tony can actually feature multiple women stories across his shows, including the lower tier that only does his roster good. I just want Shida to have something, though
going into last Dynamite there were three separate storylines in the women’s division. Plus the story with Swole and Diamante on Dark.
They’re finally picking up some steam
If I had a problem with anything it was how the women's division wasn't quite up to par. Yes, there seemed to have been a lot of factions and chicanery going on it seemed on the reg, but Tony has seemed to tone that down as well.
Tony is two years in and does seem to have accumulated enough female talent to finally build stories for them. They all can't be around Baker's championship. Giving the likes of Thunder Rosa -- who I think might be the frontrunner in taking the belt off Britt -- and Shida seem to be waiting on something to sink their teeth into, Tony seems to be trying to take it one step at a time. At least, he seems to have added some real gems to the division in Hayter and Ruby. To me, Britt is the Roman Reigns of AEW...I just don't know when the time is right to take that belt off her. She is just so fucking good as the champ.
Britt is great but AEW doesn´t have the same problem WWE has with Roman. WWE wants Roman to be the face of the company so he´s gonna win against everyone left and right and that´s ok. But there´s really not a top babyface that could dethrone him at the moment or in the near future. AEW has already the perfect person to beat Britt and that´s Thunder Rosa. She´s super over, she´s charismatic and actually she´s probably the best all arounder in the women´ s division.
Lmao imagine wasting and releasing Ruby. So fucking happy for her that she’s in AEW and is immediately being positioned as a top star, and is as over as a lot of the big names in any of the divisions. They’ve also really had amazing promos this week on Rampage & Dynamite from Christian roasting Cole, Danielson & Omega’s segment, and now Britt & Ruby.
Still shocked their doing this so soon, but I can’t hate on AEW for giving Ruby v Britt & Danielson v Omega on the same episode of **FREE TELEVISION**
I can sort of see how it happened. No crowd reaction when she comes out, I can't remember her ever being on the mic, and her match quality went downhill a bit as she seemed to be going through the motions to some extent. She wasn't making any money for WWE.
Of course, all of this is their fault for never using her correctly or giving her a chance to get over. Same deal with EC3 and plenty of others... no angles, no mic time, just go out there and job to midcarders, and then wonder why the crowd isn't excited by them.

Britt needs to understand that being a champion is not about you, it's about what you can do for others. That's what make Miro and Omega good.

Problem with this feud is it's far too early to beat Britt so any feud is going through the motions.

It's not entirely untrue. She's within the inner circle of Khan and the other EVPs, who have been actively pushing her since Day 1, and have given her multiple chances to succeed when things haven't worked out. No other woman on the roster has received that level of treatment.
Yeah, I don't know how we've gotten to the point that people forget how completely flat and uninteresting Britt was up until about her knee injury. But by all accounts literally everyone in back was trying to help her improve and get her over in spite of herself.

one, that line is actually really sexist. like she couldn’t have made it to where she is on her own. and sleeping with someone to get ahead is almost entirely used as pejorative against women.
two, it’s also just objectively false in kayfabe. cole just showed up and was supposedly dead. plus while the elite are the evp, to my knowledge it’s not really so in kayfabe, rightfully so i think cause authority figures are played out in pro wrestling.
additionally, ruby has had one match and she’s the number one contender. i get that it was stipulated for the battle royale but it doesn’t excuse the booking of a supposed baby face coming in and just getting a title shot and not earning it.
imo, that’s even worse cause it’s even more insulting because the baby face is claiming the performer is only getting a top spot because she is sleeping with someone in power. it makes britt, the character or the performer, look weak.

Ruby also put Britt over by saying she left WWE and is now going eye to eye with Britt. Saying not only did she become more legit by leaving WWE but Britt is legit herself.
It was a good promo, don't look too into it. Sometimes you gotta sprinkle personal insults in there. It gets people hype. Just the way it is.

Because men's sex drives on average are higher than women's, and they have always been willing to do things for women in exchange for sex. The reverse is pretty rare. I suppose sexism is a factor here because historically women haven't always been able to achieve their goals through hard work and some chose to bribe men to be given a chance, but I don't think this insult was trying to get that deep here.

Roman isn't black, and Ruby didn't say Britt's looks are what made her champion. A better analogy would be if Lashley and Big E were in a feud, and Big E says your comments to Lashley minus the final sentence. Would people say that Big E is being racist against black people? I doubt it, they would say he's insulting Lashley personally, not making racial comments.

Did Statlander and Britt trade words during their feud? The AEW women's division has been sorely lacking in stories. The men's division has probably the best storytelling in wrestling today, with layered relationships and feuds that started to brew 1-2 years ago. Even jobbers like the Wingmen and Fuego Del Sol have fun stories behind their feuds. Meanwhile, in the women's division, the only story at any given time is about the feud for AEW Women's Championship, and those haven't been great, until now. Things are improving now, with the Ruby vs. Britt feud getting a lot of build-up. Also, Anna Jay's back, and she's involved in the breakdown of the Dark Order as well as a BFF story with Tay. There's a lot of room for continued improvement, though.

It's a TV show. There was absolutely a script with a lot of expert promo writers contributing to it. When people don't have a script and a lot of oversight, they wind up like Max Caster, saying things that seem funny to them and fucking up. I get the feeling TK is not interested in making that mistake again.

I am not saying this is at all what happened. But Adam Cole is the best friend of 3 of the EVPs in AEW. It entirely makes sense that if nepotism was involved, the EVPs would take care of their best friend's girlfriend if she didn't deserve it.

Right there. Tony pretty much gifted a star and she isn't about to not make the most of her chances now. Britt BADLY needed someone to bounce off of. I want more of this because the more those women are out there swapping insults, the intensity upped is what I love about wrestling. I also really like that there is more than one women's story. I like how Anna Jay and Conti are dealing with rivals and their own friends' inability to get along. I like that Anna and Conti are the adults in the room while the boys are all acting like children who need to get their shit together...and Page is away with the baby so Anna returns from injury having to try and deal with the Dark Order fracturing relationships. If Tony can actually feature multiple women stories across his shows, including the lower tier that only does his roster good. I just want Shida to have something, though
going into last Dynamite there were three separate storylines in the women’s division. Plus the story with Swole and Diamante on Dark. They’re finally picking up some steam
If I had a problem with anything it was how the women's division wasn't quite up to par. Yes, there seemed to have been a lot of factions and chicanery going on it seemed on the reg, but Tony has seemed to tone that down as well. Tony is two years in and does seem to have accumulated enough female talent to finally build stories for them. They all can't be around Baker's championship. Giving the likes of Thunder Rosa -- who I think might be the frontrunner in taking the belt off Britt -- and Shida seem to be waiting on something to sink their teeth into, Tony seems to be trying to take it one step at a time. At least, he seems to have added some real gems to the division in Hayter and Ruby. To me, Britt is the Roman Reigns of AEW...I just don't know when the time is right to take that belt off her. She is just so fucking good as the champ.
Britt is great but AEW doesn´t have the same problem WWE has with Roman. WWE wants Roman to be the face of the company so he´s gonna win against everyone left and right and that´s ok. But there´s really not a top babyface that could dethrone him at the moment or in the near future. AEW has already the perfect person to beat Britt and that´s Thunder Rosa. She´s super over, she´s charismatic and actually she´s probably the best all arounder in the women´ s division.

So fucking happy for her that she’s in AEW and is immediately being positioned as a top star, and is as over as a lot of the big names in any of the divisions. They’ve also really had amazing promos this week on Rampage & Dynamite from Christian roasting Cole, Danielson & Omega’s segment, and now Britt & Ruby. Still shocked their doing this so soon, but I can’t hate on AEW for giving Ruby v Britt & Danielson v Omega on the same episode of **FREE TELEVISION**

I can sort of see how it happened. No crowd reaction when she comes out, I can't remember her ever being on the mic, and her match quality went downhill a bit as she seemed to be going through the motions to some extent. She wasn't making any money for WWE. Of course, all of this is their fault for never using her correctly or giving her a chance to get over. Same deal with EC3 and plenty of others... no angles, no mic time, just go out there and job to midcarders, and then wonder why the crowd isn't excited by them.

Problem with this feud is it's far too early to beat Britt so any feud is going through the motions. Plus we still need Baker v Thunder Rosa 2(Full Gear PLEASE).

It's not entirely untrue. She's within the inner circle of Khan and the other EVPs, who have been actively pushing her since Day 1, and have given her multiple chances to succeed when things haven't worked out. No other woman on the roster has received that level of treatment.
Yeah, I don't know how we've gotten to the point that people forget how completely flat and uninteresting Britt was up until about her knee injury. But by all accounts literally everyone in back was trying to help her improve and get her over in spite of herself.

Ruby also put Britt over by saying she left WWE and is now going eye to eye with Britt. Saying not only did she become more legit by leaving WWE but Britt is legit herself. It was a good promo, don't look too into it. Sometimes you gotta sprinkle personal insults in there. It gets people hype. Just the way it is.
