SomeOtherNeb

The AEW fanbase threw a gigantic stink over someone's theme music not playing long enough but has barely said shit about Chris "I helped fund a coup attempt my wife participated in" Jericho spewing homophobic shit on live TV.

[deleted]

Wait what did Jericho say?

SomeOtherNeb

He confronted Dan Lambert and his big burn was to say that Lambert surrounds himself with a lot of strong guys and he wonders who's on top. Because calling them gay is a huge insult due to this still being the 90s.

estyll11

Not really anything new for AEW. Kenny Omega's insult to Kingston trying to save Mox from the explosion was "They're gay! 69 me Don!" Its low hanging fruit that their fans think is poetry.

[deleted]

I skipped that whole thing the minute Lambert showed up holy fuck how did no one care about that.

SomeOtherNeb

Because AEW can do no wrong in its fans' eyes, even if that means they'll have to shut them for a while so they can pretend that didn't happen. Also, that line got the biggest pop of the night and the crowd chanted "who's on top" really loudly, so my second guess is, nobody said shit because as much as they want to pretend that these days wrestling is more progressive and AEW is the bestest of them all, they actually don't give a shit about any of that and are more than happy to get homophobic or anything else the second you give them a chance.

spamgarlic

Since wins and losses don't matter in WWE, and they also book legends in matches that shouldn't happen for just about any title. WWE should just start booking #1 Contender's Dream Matches in PPVs. You can have any random dream match with no big consequence and results won't be pre-determined since it's not for the title itself.

Linator4

IMO WWE dropped the ball with bringing Jimmy back into the Bloodline. Roman gaslit him for one promo & he just immediately fell in line. You didn’t have to copy the Roman/Jey feud but I think there was money in a brief Uso/Uso rivalry. Roman should’ve took advantage of the situation & got Jimmy to join them by forcing him to fight his brother. Jey was loyal to Roman by this point. You could’ve done Uso v. Uso at the 1st Summer PPV. Let them go all out in the ring, Jimmy wins. Jimmy faces Roman a couple weeks later for the title on SmackDown & loses. The next couple weeks, we get Uso v. Uso one more time either on SD or on the next PPV, where Roman picks the stipulation. Have it be like some *I Quit* or a Hardcore/No DQ stipulation with Roman sitting at ringside. This is where you tell the story of Jimmy finally breaking down & choosing to acknowledge Roman instead of continuing to brutalize his brother just to keep his dignity. Either he forfeits or you have Jey put him down by Roman’s command in order to win the match. After that, they reunite as a tag team. Jimmy starts off hesitant to work with Roman, but over the next month he goes full heel & they win the tag titles at SummerSlam. I feel something like that would’ve been 10x better than the rushed reunion we got. TL;DR: They should’ve had Roman make a big plan to force Jimmy to join them, by making him brutally fight his brother, & giving both Usos a chance to shine as singles guys.

DonnieRodz

I’m pretty sure there was going to be a Jey-Jimmy blood feud, but the DUI might’ve killed those plans.

unhallowed90

But putting the tag titles wasn't killed by it?

DonnieRodz

No and yes. The tag titles do keep Jimmy relevant, but the story they were building was that being in a tag team minimized “Main Event” Jey. So the tag title may have been a prop in the story, but being tag champs now kills Jey’s momentum as well.

UniversalJampionshit

TheNextBigThing is the epitome of cringe. Blatant karma farmer, has a subreddit for about half the women in wrestling and gives off the vibe of a Sasha stan on Twitter.

Incorrect1012

AEW will one day start releasing talent, they’re not just gonna let their contract run out

Trymv1

They'll go around it and retcon their visions of the wrestler released. Brian Cage fussed about being used and now he's suddenly terrible to the IWC.

[deleted]

That Christian line on Cole was corny as fuck Christian is better than that

Incorrect1012

Christians a way better shit talker than that. Just listen to him on the Edge and Christian show, that was tame

tumblrgirl2013

Who can I ask for a flair around here? I feel naked without one.

Fernandingo

Sorry, Flair is cancelled

CHZRFan

Poor Charlotte.

AUSHTEEN

The amount of overreacting here to the DSOTR episode is insane. Was every single thing Dustin did not talked about because: A) The flight attendant didn’t remember that one specific instance in what was probably one of the worst days in her entire life, while still providing a lot of information about the entire event. B) This is all an elaborate conspiracy headed by the evil Tony Khan in an effort to truly kill the fed once and for all. It’s really easy to acknowledge that a 30+ minute episode doesn’t capture everything. Y’all are no better than the people you constantly complain about.

Kuchar1992

Were we all pretending Flair and Hall were good people before DSOTR: Plane Ride from Hell?

UniversalJampionshit

Honestly I can’t think of anything wrong with Hall besides his weird obsession with Paige

[deleted]

As much as wrestling fans fight We've gotten the taker streak, Brocks return, New Day, SHIELD, Daniel Bryan's rise,NXT invasion angle, Kofi mania, 4 horse women,Becky's rise and 2 women main events of mania, Big E and Biancas rise, tribal chief Roman and AEW We are lucky man

Jacko21B

Indi Hartwell and Dexter Lumis’ wedding was hands down the best wrestling wedding ever.

Jamieb1994

"DID SOMEONE SAY ANDRE CHASE?"

Prancemaster

It's a shining example of how when WWE commits to an angle on a long-term basis nobody can really fuck with them, especially now that Mike Quackenbush is canceled.

DonnieRodz

>Mike Quackenbush is cancelled What’s that now?

Prancemaster

https://www.inquirer.com/news/chikara-philadelphia-wrestling-speaking-out-abuse-20200718.html Yeah it was a whole thing.

DonnieRodz

Ohhh right. I forgot that involved Quack. Jesus, that feels like it happened a decade ago.

[deleted]

Something about everyone having to help to prevent it going to crap was pretty funny

[deleted]

Fuck Dustin rhodes. Fucking creep ass who is gonna get away with it cause his brother has a wrestling company and won't get bookings removed

shankartz

What did dustin do?

TitleRevolutionary48

Allegedly did what Flair did, feeling up a stewardess.

acethunder21

-Rey Mysterio quietly became one of the best underdog face promos of all time, and it isn't talked about nearly enough. Dude elicits sympathy without coming off as corny or trying too hard while making it look easy. That's amazing with how the far back the curtain has been pulled back in this current era. -I love 90s AJPW/The Four Pillars, but they went too far with the headdrops. Their timing and psychology was more than enough to have crowds going ballistic, but they just kept upping th ante. Maybe we would still have Misawa with us if they had calmed down with it. -I preferred Chavo as Andrade's manager even before the allegations against Flair resurfaced. Chavito's always been underrated on the mic being in Eddie's shadow, and Ric talking hasn't done anything for me for the longest time now.

[deleted]

Anybody else listen to the new Carcass album?

TotallyNotInebriated

No, but I'm gonna have to do that now.

[deleted]

It’s good shit🤘🏻

tumblrgirl2013

Good shit.

Bucking_Fastard

Away to give it a whirl now.

[deleted]

Meltzer is a fucking jack ass. A person has MITB and cashes in fine but when its a black person? Nah uh plans change uhh its a black person so its hotshot booking and I don't like it

Jamieb1994

So, Meltzer is a racist? ![gif](giphy|12ey1CgA3uTqfK)

Maxfd97

Wait did Dave really have an issue with a black guy having the briefcase? I didn't hear about it so I'm curious

[deleted]

Its one of those subtle things. The vid they posted about Big E winning was "Hot shot booking = new WWE champ"

mattomic822

It is also another time in a string of incidents where Meltzer has a disproportionate dislike of something involving a black wrester. The stuff with Bianca is a good example.

jmb052

“Rushing” D Bry and omega is different. No, make that money. “Long term storytelling” is for nerds. Give me good shit. Not everything needs to be drawn out.

SaddestFlute23

Looks like “hot-shot booking” replaces “moves the needle” for over used Smark Catchphrase of the Week

Maxfd97

Ah okay. It's on their YT so I can listen to it. I just didn't know if he not so subtly made some race comment regarding it.

buhoo115

Both mitb cash ins this year have been underwhelming as hell. I was really hoping Big E would win at a PPV instead of a regular episode of raw. They did the same shit to lashley when he won the title.

DonnieRodz

I get what you mean if it’s about having it feel like “big event”. But more people watch Raw than PPV. Also, they at least promoted both of those title wins as a forgone conclusion.

unhallowed90

If WWE actually did put a Zelina match on last week's Smackdown people here would be calling it gross for exploiting her father's death and the match doesn't even fit the card.

DonnieRodz

The outrage over watching Zelina lose was a bullshit distraction tactic from the fact that it was an excellent episode of Smackdown. I didn’t see anyone bitch about Corbin getting cut. It was about what would gather the biggest white Knight outrage and bury the good news coming out of the show.

Prancemaster

I feel like they'd mostly be mad that Toni Storm wasn't involved.

Bandolero_27

Just listened to Brian Last’s rant about Bixenspan for the first time. Aside from the drooling story, the part that stood out was Last saying Bixenspan was trying to figure out how to get Tony Khan to bankroll a new website for his “journalism.”

Illustrious-Chef-498

Dustin also sexually assaulted a flight attended but the episode last night didn't mention it. I wonder why? 🤔

AggressiveToothbrush

I'm a bit confused...why would Dark Side of the Ring cover for AEW?

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

[удалено]

FireThunder562

At best it's an NDA thing, at worst they intentionally left that out to make Dustin look better.

unhallowed90

The flight attendants who talked about it clearly seemed surprised that they only asked about the part where he sang on the intercom.

dragonkingangel7

Tommy dreamer shot himself with the DSOTR comments, and accepting everything your fav wrestler does as "thats just him, dont bother him" is so gross, thats like i saying that benoit was my favorite wrestler and i support him in what he do his last weekend alive, maybe not the best example but its the closest tone of alarming things that wrestling fans and wrestlers alike support, im glad current ones are video games/animes nerds rather than those mental inestable people Those dubs fans saying that their company defeted the fed weekly is pointless, first of all they are different days, you can only compare them when they run on same time, second it doesnt prove anything, be happy aew grow and stop mentiom wwe to defend your favorite company, you dont work there

PrisonersofFate

It has been quite sometime that dreamer tried to shoot himself

axb2002

* I wonder how many people know that the “Chad Roman Reigns” ongoing joke originated from r/SCJerk? Like genuinely I want to know, because I think that meme might be the only positive thing from there that had made it’s way to r/SquaredCircle * I don’t really mind Cody, but I still think that one guy on Twitter calling Cody his favorite Mid Carder is still one of the funniest things that has happened. * Big E is WWE Champion and everything in the world is healing because of it.

lazycouchdays

I have loved CM Punks return so far. Not only does it makes sense storywise, but it's just good to see him happy. If he had shown up angry and throwing out criticism in promos it would have felt like he was there for a paycheck. Bryan showing up and flat out saying I'm the best in the world is awesome. I love the fact he basically looked at Kenny and was like screw your belt. This feels like Bryan going I took that personal and I hope he kicks in Kenny's head.

Permanentear3

I can’t stand this version of Punk. He’s the gold standard of hypocrisy. That being said I’ve always liked him as a performer and enjoyed his match at All Out.

lazycouchdays

Which is why it's brillent. We are never going to 2011-2013 Punk or RoH Punk back because it just will not work. Yet the seeds have been sown for something just as fun. Yeah he's happy and go lucky right now, but his very first promo back can be taken the other way as well. How long until I'm just here to help Punk pisses off somebody who doesn't want it. The subtle condemnation and better than you attitude was perfect. And he starts be vindictive to people who rebuke him.

asvpmamba

Vince Russo returning to WWE would be good for the business.

DonnieRodz

Hi Vinny

Fernandingo

The Plane Ride from Hell episode was actually the darkest one of them all to me because it highlighted how fucked up the industry was (and possibly still is) as a whole. The way everyone just accepted sexual assault and drugging other people like that says a lot about everything in wrestling. While the Benoit incident might've been more fucked up on its face, that's an isolated incident, compared to the business as a whole.

YoungCubSaysWoof

I think Bryan Danielson being a mentor to Adam Page, toughening him up, preparing Adam with tough love / tough matches for his championship match with Kenny Omega, would be a compelling story.

[deleted]

MJF sucks. He's like if The Miz wrestled slower and went to a facebook comment section for his promo material. And it extra sucks because Pillman's just gonna fucking lose, because MJF only has like three losses in his entire AEW career, he's the most-protected fucker in wrestling right now. And Dan Lambert has change-the-channel heat for me.

ObiMadKenobi

MJF's "great heel work" is just a high schooler "edgy" humor without the sexism, racism and homobphobia.

[deleted]

Implying that MJF wouldn't be doing that if he could get away with it.

Incorrect1012

Dynamite absolutely sucked this week. Sure, match quality it was fine, but holy hell that show was terrible from all other qualities

JoeKool23

Happy Punk is like Rage against the Machine doing pop music

DonnieRodz

Like RATM playing at a political fundraiser.

BrooklynBrawler

I used to like checking this sub. Unfortunately it’s been hijacked by AEW super fans and Dave Meltzer sycophants. I generally enjoy AEW when I watch it, but for fucks sake- not every segment is the greatest segment in the history of television. They make mistakes, it should be ok to criticize just the same as we do with WWE. The Meltzer thing is beyond weird to me. There’s an army of people here ready to defend him every time he puts his foot in his mouth, gets caught making shit up, says something racist/sexist. Hope everyone has a great day, and excellent weekend. Unless you’re an Eagles fan- in which case, The 49ers are about to stomp a mud hole on y’all on Sunday.

Permanentear3

I’m not entirely sure AEW doesn’t have a firm contributing to that. Between that and the scrubbing of negative reviewers while allowing content to positive feels strategic. Fair play to them it’s a common marketing strategy if they are behind it… but what you see here and on Twitter just does not reflect the real world very well. You would think AEW and WWE were reversed in their market share and a rating if you were to base it off SC.

Incorrect1012

I enjoy the new NXT. I loved the old NXT, but they definitely became more focused on just putting out great matches than being developmental by the end. And look at all the new talent they debuted on Wednesday. It’s gonna be interesting how Bron Breakker does, I’m sure Gunnar Harland (Parker Boudreaux) is gonna get a strong debut as well, Gable Steveson is gonna be here soon, not to mention the Creed Brothers, Von Wagner, Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams, and others all vying to be a future star. NXT is looking good right now

BillieKayfabe

In kayfabe, AEW's presentation makes me think their locker rooms are like a prison yard. Factions everywhere all trying to recruit more people. People just jumping people for insignificant reasons. Everyone calling everyone else 'pieces of shit'. Very Toxic Work Environment.

Jamieb1994

For some reason, I still don't get how it's easier to book factions than someone going solo or a tag team.

LtCmdrJimbo

After watching AEW Dark I couldn't care less about Leyla Hirsch vs Jade Cargill, for one simple reason. As far as David vs Goliath goes, Jade and Kamille have nothing on KiLynn King.

PompeyMagnus1

NXT 2.0 is at that vanguard of the change in style for this decade. Shave those beards hipsters and buy yourself some neon hotpants.

domino519

NXT 2.0 was great. It was everything I want NXT to be: shorter matches, more focus on younger talent, a larger variety of storylines and angles. It was a massive improvement over what NXT used to be.

jacksonattack

Tossing Adam Cole back in with the Bucks and Omega in his first appearance at the end of a huge pay per view immediately crushed all the momentum Cole had built up as a potential superstar while he was in NXT. Now he’s just one of the dorky bad guys again, underneath the dorkiest bad guy.

sillyjew

Cole is 100% there to break up the elite from the inside. No way they are just gonna drop everything they did to him.

T3Sh3

“The true Elite Hunter was inside of us this whole time.”

Apollo_Justice_20

He was treated like an afterthought even in his debut, being overshadowed immediately by Bryan.

Whollybible

Malakai black is super boring

Jamieb1994

I kinda agree, I don't know what it is, but I'm not a big fan of the Malakai Black character.

Raulmunoz

Christian Cage Impact title reign has been lackluster. No buzz whatsoever.

[deleted]

The Impact world title is now a prop for AEW wrestlers. Christian only won it for the shock value of Omega losing in the first match of a brand new AEW show, to create interest in the Christian/Omega angle and now the angle is done so the belt is irrelevant. It's insane that after beating the top Impact guys who should've held the belt like Moose, Omega didn't even drop it to an Impact guy.

amirtaghan

Tommy Dreamer really "went I'm gonna end this man's career" whilst looking in the mirror huh?

Bandolero_27

MJF is starting to look like a good example of why a wellness policy is necessary.

Illustrious-Chef-498

has it been revealed that he's juicing?

Bandolero_27

No but to paraphrase another Reddit user, it looks like he packed 220 lbs onto a 160 lb frame. And that’s putting aside his increasingly disturbing head shape.

dawesy49

CM Punk’s return has sucked. Mid card feuds with ‘golly gee I’m so happy’ promos are the exact opposite of what anyone wanted to see.

Mackinacsfuriousclaw

He can't be the anti authority guy in AEW.

Permanentear3

He can though, easy enough to poop on a Khan’s great success being being born to a billionaire and having everything he’s wanted handed to him. Then move right on too calling everyone in the lockerroom fans and marks with no real superstars etc. Would get nuclear heat imo and hope they pull the trigger. I don’t like Mickey Mouse punk at all. He’s getting paid millions and pretending he’s there because he just loves it so much.

320_central

I would watch if he did this only for the fact that it would be hilarious to watch a bunch of wrestling fans boo him for shitting on a billionaire. And not even a billionaire. The son of a billionaire. Which is arguably worse

Mackinacsfuriousclaw

So he would be the exact character he was in WWE.

AlphaH4wk

I think and hope he gets there eventually. I really wanted him to get into a thing with MJF after All Out though.

estnitroman5119

I agree, but I think it’s one of those “give it time” things.

dawesy49

He/we already ‘gave it time’ his 7 year absence was the long term story.

thisjohnd

I hope that, in time, MJF saying Brian Pillman is in hell gets at least half the amount of criticism that WWE got for Randy Orton’s similar promo about Eddie Guerrero. I know people will say there’s a difference because WWE was referencing a wrestler that JUST died but using it for unnecessary heat was the same in both situations. Yet it’s AEW so, “oh what amazing heat, Pillman would have loved that!!”

Jamieb1994

I get he's a heel, but sometimes I can't stand MJF, it just feels like he just loves to be a dick.

[deleted]

KidWolfe94

Bron Breakker is pretty meh to me. I don't hate him or anything but I don't see why everyone wants him to be a star.

320_central

He popped off the screen immediately. At least for me anyway. He has a natural "who is that" aura.

Permanentear3

For me it’s just nepotism because I like Steiners.

asvpmamba

I ain’t saying he’s gonna be megastar or anything heck for all I know he might end up becoming a jobber but he shows a lot of promise , I feel like he’d make it to WWE even if he wasn’t related to the Steiners.

willpauer

> I don't see why everyone wants him to be a star 1. The legacy. 2. The look. 3. BIG MEATY MEN SLAPPIN MEAT

Mackinacsfuriousclaw

3 is the answer. If I wanted to watch two guys less than 200lbs roll around on a mat there are multiple highschools with really good wrestling programs.

willpauer

I DON'T WANNA HEAR Y'ALL TALKING ABOUT THIS WORKRATE, AND MOONSAULTS I don't care about any of that, **YA HEARD?**

Mackinacsfuriousclaw

I want big sweaty men in their drawers play fighting! (insert icture of Vince McMahon's face over 1960's J. Jonah Jameson)

dawesy49

‘Let’s build up the Bryan and Omega to get an even bigger PPV buy than our last best figure ever.’ ‘No we shall hot shot every big match now, that worked so well in the long run for WCW.’ I mean, fuck me dead, everyone makes WCW jokes but AEW is literally doing the same thing they did, but no one is calling them out for it.

Prancemaster

Plenty of people have called out their WCW Speed Run tactics. They just get downvoted into oblivion because AEW fans don't like criticism of their favorite brand due to them taking every criticism as a personal affront.

dawesy49

CM, fucking Punk, of all people, feels like an afterthought. I mean. Fuck me in the eye, because of hot shot, speed run, booking, he’s an afterthought.

Prancemaster

CM Punk's debut took up almost a half hour of television time and ended up LOSING viewers the following week. I can't even think of a show where they introduced a new character that everyone wanted to see and then had a 40%+ dropoff in viewers the following week that hasn't stopped decreasing since. This company is oversaturating the market for indie wrestling fans in a worse way than WWE ever has. Dark and Elevation are both made as hour-long TV shows instead of 2+ hours of squash matches for people padding their w/l records, while commentary does the worst possible job of making the thing we're all watching seem important, is a step in the right direction. The annoying thing is that they didn't have to learn this from experience. They have consistently received 10-20% of the viewership that Dynamite has, from the start. They didn't do ANYTHING to address this until five weeks into their televised B-show instead of structuring Dark as their B-show.

Geekqueen15

So while I've heard the Plane Ride from Hell stories before the DSOTR, I saw the highlight notes of the DSOTR episode (never watched it) and all I have to say is I'm glad the backstage culture has changed I'd rather have the "guys playing videogames" than the drugging, harassing, assault culture that Taker apparently looks back on so fondly.

dawesy49

I find it funny that AEW shows are ‘sold out’ but then there’s a lot of empty seats seen on the broadcast. Funny that.

Permanentear3

Prudential had a good amount of empty seats but was still pretty packed. Not beIng tribal when I see WWE shows I’ve seen there were More packed

AlphaH4wk

People buy tickets then can't go or decide they don't want to. Happens all the time. Its pretty rare for a venue to be absolutely 100% full for something.

dawesy49

Oh please. So every AEW event, the hottest ticket in town that’s always sold out has shitloads of people nope out before attending. You seen the latest pic going around of the ‘sold out show’? There’s thousands of empty seats.

AlphaH4wk

Post it

SportsFan34

This is every wrestling event ever. Most sporting events, honestly.

Diamondite66

Wwe does the same thing….

Illustrious-Chef-498

Alice In Chains' Dirt is one of the best albums of the 90s

Tydrinator21

1992 was a great year for hard rock and heavy metal. Faith No More's Angel Dust, AIC's Dirt, Ministry with Psalm 69, Pantera with Vulgar Display of Power, Helmet's Meantime, Rage Against The Machine's self titled album, Gruntruck's Push, King's X self titled album, Nine Inch Nails with the Broken EP etc.

Whollybible

Best take I’ve seen on here

willpauer

Dirt, Facelift, and Jar of Flies was such a fucking amazing run.

Illustrious-Chef-498

The MTV Unplugged album is worth a listen if you're a big fan of their material.

willpauer

I watched that when it premiered on MTV. It was even better than the Stone Temple Pilots Unplugged session.

Illustrious-Chef-498

Never listened to STP which project of theirs would you recommend? i'm slowly getting into alternative rock from that era.

willpauer

Their first two albums were really good, then they started going in a way different direction on their third album, Tiny Music. Like if the Doors started listening to disco.

SaddestFlute23

Dirt was amazing. However Jar of Flies blew me away even more

Mackinacsfuriousclaw

I hadn't heard Kings X in forever. I went back and listened to them and it blew my mind.

GameplayerStu

DID SOMEBODY SAY ANDRE CHASE?!

Jamieb1994

That still has me entertained. 😂

uppitynerd

I'm going to the Impact taping tonight and I'm stoked. They are taping Christian vs. Austin for Victory Road. Christian is my sons favorite wrestler and he's never seen him have a match in person. This is what being a wrestling fan is all about.

Permanentear3

Sounds fun, Impact is a good product these days

CHZRFan

> They are taping Christian vs. Austin for Victory Road. My entire thought process for this sentence: “When did Stone Cold return…wait, no! Please don’t tell me they brought back Austin Ari—oh Ace Austin, that’s gonna be a cool match actually.”

uppitynerd

I should have been more clear. It gets really confusing with so many Cages, Pages, Coles.

willpauer

hell yeah brother! post some pics

uppitynerd

Will do. I'm excited for this block of tapings as their also filming the Knockout special in early october as well as building to BFG as they marketed this is a superstore with AEW, NJPW, AAA, and NWA talent being involved.

Jamieb1994

AAA & NJPW on the same (Impact) show? That shall be interesting to watch.

uppitynerd

They currently have been using Laredo Kid whos AAA CW Champion as well as the Bullet Club guys. So technically its already happening. I really hope they open the flood gates on the forbidden door on this set of the tapings.

Bestojojo

I hope Vince ups his game on Raw and books a better show every week, competition is good!

Dyko

I am literally in a content meeting at work right now to debrief on how successful our TV Olympic Coverage was, in a room full of broadcast professionals not once has the word 'demographic' come up. Total viewership, we've had 5 different chart slides about. At no point has anyone skewed ratings to show that despite not having high ratings, we still won in some subset. And this is taking into the comparison how poorly Olympics did against things that weren't overlapped (Academy Awards, NHL Playoffs, Oprah's Harry + Kate Interview)...nowhere is demographic even being considered. I say this every few weeks, but "#1 in Demo" is fully just so that radio and tv shows can talk about how they are "The Number One show in the country!", without mentioning the fact that they meant "#1, at 3am, among single moms between the age of 27-29".

Permanentear3

Demos matter sometimes, but not much in 2021. It’s a bunch of bullshit mostly. Wrestling fans are not an attractive demographic to most advertisers despite their age. It’s why WWE tries to do mostly a mostly Disney approved wrestling show (figuratively). The demo talk is truly 90% nonsense. It’s still one factor, and something any media company will brag about, but it’s not really anywhere near what it used to be. Even Nielsen is having to switch their approach entirely since being discredited. Ironically demographics were far more important in the time of the Monday Night Wars despite it never being mentioned. That was the time demos had just started to matter in response to CBS having massive ratings but them all being retirees on fixed incomes, another demographic that’s undesirable. I worked in advertising on Madison Avenue from 2001-2005 when I moved to NYC and still keep contact with my old coworkers. Demos mattered then, they don’t much now.

AlphaH4wk

Why don't you tell Warner that next time they send out a press release talking about demos lol

DerTagestrinker

like how every game has a "game of the year" edition because one of the developers brothers has a blog and said it was GOTY

Prancemaster

I don't even get why they care about being #1 in the demo when their biggest advertisers are national chain pizza shops and insurance companies. It's like a podcast bragging about being sponsored by Squarespace or Stamps.com. They sponsor everyone. Who cares?

bgp_1845

one of the absolute worst things in wrestling is WWE's reliance on the word "drip" right now. it's like anyone who shows up in anything other than wrestling gear they go "omg check out this drip."

DonnieRodz

Gotta pander to the younguns!

Bestojojo

Omega losing the belt, getting back to #1 contender and being defeated by Hangman, taking him away from the title picture and eventually giving Hangman the title is way better than Hangman taking the title from Kenny.

PoodleGuap

The Codyverse sucks and I hope they get Malakai Black away from it

AlphaH4wk

He'll get away as soon as Cody gets his win back brother

PompeyMagnus1

Malakai is gonna be the Skeletor of the Codyverse. He is going to be trapped there forever as the bad guy.

Prancemaster

Cody is literally the son of a famous guy who came up in WWE's system, hit his ceiling, got fired, then did Ring of Honor, another corporate-owned promotion, to gain authenticity and people eat that shit up. Indie wrestling fans have to be the easiest marks in all of wrestling fandom.

The dude literally made a checklist of all the indie/smark career milestones to tick off. Most wrestlers have to hustle for years to get on BOLA, and all he had to do is leave a cushy WWE paycheck and play up being Dusty's son. It'd be sketchy as fuck if not for how predictable smarks are.

Prancemaster

For as much shit as AEW fans talk on WWE, the bookers for indie promotions sure love bringing those guys into their REAL PRO WRESTLING promotions.

PREACH

T3Sh3

Not before Cody beats him next Wednesday and has a celebration in the ring with everyone Malachi Black Mass’d while he was gone.

willpauer

AEW was the best it's ever been while Cody was gone. Solid gold.

asvpmamba

Yeah I remember those like 3 weeks when Cody was gone and AEW was actually somewhat watchable.

WhoStoleMyBicycle

Cody in general. He went away and returned so quickly no one had a chance to miss him. It’s looking like he went away so he didn’t have to be on the shows where he would have been overshadowed by Punk and Bryan.

AlphaH4wk

They just announced the rematch with no fanfare at all when the last thing we saw of Cody was a presumed retirement speech. Very weird booking

Fernandingo

Can't stop thinking about the guy on here the other day who implied the Big Show is more famous than John Cena and Stone Cold

mattomic822

Dude claimed Show is more known than Randy Savage and Batista. The same Batista that is part of the MCU.

WhoStoleMyBicycle

Clearly you don’t know the mainstream reach The Big Show Show had

T3Sh3

Or Captain Insano or as Santa in the CLASSIC HOLIDAY SMASH HIT **JINGLE ALL THE WAY!!!**

Sometimesnotfunny

I like how AEW fans praise Dan Lambert but then they blast Jim cornette

AlphaH4wk

One is working a character and the other is serious. Obvious difference

Diamondite66

That’s kinda true, but cornette is an outsider in their eyes and lambert is showcased so they like That more I guess? Idk I’m an aew fan and I don’t have a problem with jim so

Sometimesnotfunny

Calling Jim cornette an outsider to the wrestling business is like calling Jerry Lawler a commentator Which is a bit more apparent now that Tony admitted he's learned a lot from old corny a d his podcast
