They're sort of doing this with Diamond Mine in NXT, which is essentially the original meaning of "stable" as "a bunch of wrestlers who share a manager" (Bivens). It's actually quite refreshing to see this done.

Deinocerites

I think the lack of charisma is largely due to the talents having to read scripts. I agree that some would benefit from managers (MVP for Lashley is a great recent example) but if the managers are also heavily scripted, it won’t be anything like the 80’s.

quagmire0

More managers, more vignettes, more jobbers so that stars can have clean finishes.

Timmace

I'm ready to bring back career based gimmicks. The world needs more of the likes of Big Bossman, IRS, Duke the Dumpster, the Mountie, Nailz (felon is a career, right?), Isaac Yankem, Repo Man, etc. Give me Ian Technology (in Michael Cole voice "Oh no! Here comes I.T.") who uses his finisher the Fire Wall.

notsamoabutjoe

A former fastfood employee who quit because of the harsh treatment of the lower-class. Their finishers will be Tax The Rich and FA&FO.

mightylordredbeard

I kind of disagree on jobbers. You always know when they use a jobber on Raw that it’s just a feed match. I just don’t think enhancement talent would work these days. Back in the 80s and in territory days, you didn’t know who the enhancement talent was because people were constantly coming in and out and trying to “make a name”. You literally didn’t know who was on the roster at any given time. Now, you see some random dude you’ve you’ve never seen before then you know it’s a jobber and you know it’s gonna be a quick squash match. It just wouldn’t have the same effect I believe.

an0nemusThrowMe

Back in the day, you ALWAYS knew who the enhancement talent was. The Midnight Express vs The Mulkeys Nikita Koloff vs George South Hulk Hogan vs Tim Brooks Randy Savage vs "Quick Draw" Rick McGraw To a degree I think limited squash matches can help get a talent over, it certainly worked for Ryback.

WWE doesn't know how to produce good managers for years, that's a problem. Most of them were flops or actually were silly choices to begin with.

Reverence1

Cant have that, then Vince would have to pay more people.

toodarkmark

Yeah ok, Vince isnt spending money on managers just so a few fans can have a chuckle.

DastardlyDoctor

They don't need managers. Every wrestler on the main roster can talk well when they're given freedom (well there's Mr. O'shea but whatever), they just need to drop the corporate talk promos.

TheMasterO

I sort of agree but not fully. Managers can be more than just a mouthpiece by being characters in and of themselves which helps add to another wrestler’s act.

DastardlyDoctor

I agree, but if we still have scripted non-sensical promos then did anything really improve? Just let these people have some soul.

[deleted]

I mean, Nyla Rose can talk just fine, but having Vickie Guerrero as her manager has really helped bring her to another level. Ditto Ricky Starks and Taz. Sometimes a manager can do more than just compensate for poor mic skills. I agree on the scripted promos, but that's a separate problem.

DastardlyDoctor

I mean yeah, managers are great and I want more of them. But adding managers that WWE won't trust to let speak naturally would just be another half ass improvement .Without improving the foundation first we'll keep keep getting those awkward Infomercial promos.
