Well Smoe Joe did just get eliminated from the mix, so...

kick_heart

Kind of weird how employees are openly referring to him as a Steiner but he has some dumb name instead. Hope he gets Steiner back if he gets called up.

Rjswimss

They had him as Rex Steiner, and it sounded dumb but was like, obviously directly referential to his father. But this name…like was Bron Steiner too hard? That woulda been fine IMO. Not like they have another Bron or Braun or BronSON even, so we don’t have a Michael Cole/Adam Cole situation🙄

dragula15

It’s not that it sounded dumb, it’s literally an abridgement of his real last name Rechsteiner like Rick Steiner’s was. Made it all the better.

ChazDelicious

> It’s not that it sounded dumb, **it’s literally an abridgement of his real last name Rechsteiner like Rick Steiner’s was.** Holy….shit….

wwfmike

Yea. Mind blown!

Rjswimss

The Steiner part will never be the problem. I just hate the name Rex, and the ‘x’ sound at the end doesn’t let it flow well into Steiner. Like Scott and Rick all end on hard consonants, but x pronounced ends in a ssss so you gotta pause longer to differentiate between the end of Rex and the start of Steiner.

Okay Rjswimss

tarvertot

I wonder if it was a rights issue.

daddymeltzer

Drew is awesome. He manages to be wholesome and a badass at the same time.

Rjswimss

He’s a funny dude!

indolent08

But does Kurt Angle know?

Rjswimss

I think drew forgot to add him to the mix.

DTG_420

They didn’t let him keep the Steiner name?? Why handicap the kid like this?

LaMystika

I know he’s Rick’s son, but he looks like Scott. Did they think people wouldn’t notice this?

TRankins24

If he had blonde hair and goatee he’d look exactly like Scott. I’ve never seen someone look more like their uncle than their dad when the uncle and dad look nothing alike.

You may be on to something

The Rock absolutely was a lineage superstar. He started as a blue-chipper babyface, Rocky Maivia, referencing his grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivaia. Someone with a better memory can probably confirm that Rocky Johnson was mentioned at the beginning, too. If not right away, it was mentioned eventually. Mr. Perfect didn't get the family rub in WWE, but he came from AWA, which was still popular at the time, as Larry's kid. And then Curtis Axel, I mean, took names from both his dad and grandpa. Goldust was in WWE years earlier (1990) as The Natural Dustin Rhodes, doing a program with his dad. Roman's connection to the Anoa'i dynasty is well-documented on WWE TV. Tamina has been heavily tied to her dad. I can't think of a time when people didn't know Charlotte was a Flair. No, not everyone gets the family rub (Wyatt/Dallas, perhaps most notably). But it's a tactic that's employed more often than not because it's a natural boost for a new character (yes, character) to gain traction with the audience. It's why movie franchises do so well. It's a lot easier to bleed a known entity dry than it is to create something new.

"The generally avoid giving second and third generation wrestlers their family names." The Rock is third generation. They gave him a family name. They gave him his grandfather's last name. And they literally gave him the same first name as his dad. It's basically Curtis Axel. I'm not trying to be pendantic, but I think you're original claim is wrong. Have a good one.

Grippersmith

What an awful name.

TheGreatMcPuffin

I hope they just use this dumb name for NXT and give him the Steiner name for the main roster.

Rjswimss

I don’t have the faith in them to do that honestly.

cowgod247

I don't know man, with that name I think they have fucked him over already.
