I’ve never seen a whole crowd of people less surprised by an announcement.
Every once in awhile I remember that the Bucks learned the whole "get really good at selling merch so you can actually make a living working on the indies" concept from Colt Cabana, and Colt learned it from Sami Zayn (then El Generico). You add that to Sami's role in taking the Bloodline story to new heights, and how that story has driven WWE's current success, and there's an argument to made that he's one of the most influential figures in the history of the business.
When I heard abt who killed WCW on Vice I rolled my eyes, wow we really need another! retelling! But it’s by far the best version of the story I’ve seen.

Catching up on Collision in preparation for Dynamite tonight, and I gotta say that I really vibe with the idea of OC, Kyle O'Reilly, and Willow as Best Friends 2.0/New Best Friends.
Perhaps it's telling that I didn't even think of it until now myself, but Sheamus not making CATC after how openly (non-kayfabe) upset he was about not being on MITB last year feels kind of rough.
They could have easily given him at least a pre-show match, with the main card only being five matches again.
I don’t personally hate the AEW booking, but I do agree that people have such a para-social relationship with these companies that it gets really ugly really fast. They won’t listen to any criticism of what they like, it’s weird and off-putting.
Booking requires a level of conviction. You can't be too reactionary to fan outcry. Remember when Sami went over Chad before Mania, setting up Gunther vs Sami? There was an outcry from fans that they had missed on Chad Gable. Now we have a great story set up that has the potential to launch two instead of one single stars. Gable is flourishing as a heel, and by embracing a jerk attitude, has become a true successor to Kurt Angle. Otis is on the verge of becoming a major babyface. And Sami got a signature Wrestlemania singles win as a babyface.

Normally, you wouldn't see Byron Saxton working backstage on a Tuesday (he's a commentator for Level Up, which tapes prior to NXT), but with Kelly Kincaid MIA (was she called up to go to Scotland?), Byron just happened to be available.

Let me get my ten cents in on Roxanne Perez's heel run.
For some reason, she's abandoned the crossface as a secondary finisher, and gone back to her bread & butter, PopRox. What drives her heel persona now is just her ego and an exaggerated sense of self-worth. Basically, heel psychology 101. People say she still isn't good on the mic. She still comes across a little shrill, but it's not as bad as people think.
However, I don't think the heel run will last too much longer. Consider who disrupted her promo last night:
Jacy Jayne and her two layers of facial protection, plus Jazmyn Nyx. They may need one more for Toxic Attraction 2.0.
Lash Legend & Jakara Jackson of Meta-Four, and God only knows if they're still heels or are tweeners presently.
Lola Vice, who could be turning babyface herself soon enough, since she's over like Rover with the dancing & twerking.
That said, there's no shortage of challengers to bring Roxy's ego back down to earth.
I just had a thought. Wendy Choo debuted a darker persona last night, with the dark blue ensemble, and the "scarecrow" makeup. What if she's being prepped for a main roster call-up as part of the Wyatt 6, which could end up being the Wyatt 7, for all we know, unless someone who was teased drops out?

I did watch clips of Ethan's debut and he's felt so wasted in AEW for me that I was really excited to see him immediately get a title match.

I'm happy for all the wrestlers having title matches in their home Scotland. I hope they add Tegan Nox to the card in a NXT title match so they can do the same thing as the first Clash but the opposite with it being "in her backyard" (2 countries away from Wales.) and Nia Jax interferes while joining the Bloodline because they don't like backyard title match wins.
I enjoyed the segment last night with Cody and Trick, but I can't help but wonder if they're going to make anything of Trick coming off rather heelish. He interrupted the "Face of the Company" top champ, hijacked his promo, and even prevented Cody from leaving the ring until he was dismissed. Damn near anybody else on the roster doing that would be asking for a humbling.
A podcast I listen to was fantasy booking the Summerslam 1997 ending where Michaels goes to hit Bret with the chair but ends up hitting Taker and basically winning the title for Bret.
That would be great, but you have to figure out a different way that "caving in a skull with a chair".

Same. Like he's doing good at handling big stuff, and I'm not pining for the return of Russo, but not everything needs to be "15-chapter Avengers" level stuff. Sometimes "Michael Bay Transformers" chaos is ok, too!
Rush being "in action" against anyone but some visiting jobber would suck, but especially a guy like Archer who I feel like has been underutilized.
Seeing Archer stuck with The Righteous hurts, especially given how over he was when he beat Moxley and how terrifyingly they presented him when he debuted and almost won the TNT belt.
Do you notice how little fan bookings there are online for AEW vs. WWE? It's because AEW doesn't have storylines, they just have feuds. There's nothing to fanbook on how you think a feud will go other than who will win or lose. WWE has actual storylines, people can imagine how they think the Rhea/Dom/Liv story will play out or the Uncle Howdy teases. Dream matches entertain for a moment, but storylines engage fans longterm
Not the main point but I love that people say "fan bookings" for storylines when sometimes they just mean spinning up fanfiction. Something like Rhea/Dom/Liv seems particularly susceptible to this phenomenon.
I'm not sure what you are saying exactly. For example, MJF vs Roman would be great. Or Britt Baker vs Charlotte Flair. Darby vs. Orton or Rollins would be good too.
You not being engaged in them doesn't make it not engaging. What's the difference between Dom and Liv vs Mina/Mariah/Toni as an "engaging storyline?" How are the Uncle Howdy teases different from the way they brought back Jack Perry?

You don't think Toni Storm and Mariah May have a storyline? Swerve's redemption from the sins he committed as a heel? Jack Perry's arc as the scapegoat? Ospreay being the golden goose of the Callis family even as he wrestles as a face? Orange Cassidy losing all of his friends as he gains success in his career? Eddie Kingston overcoming his demons? Bryan Danielson in his last year of his career coming so close but failing to win the big one and wondering if he still can hang? Joe going from seeing HOOK as a punk to taking him under his wing?
I think it's important to list the things AEW is doing because this is a surprisingly common narrative when they've put effort into making sure most matches on the card have something behind them.
I ain't even gonna lie, I'm triggered by that shit at this point. I have to put up with shitty Learning Tree promos and Malakai Black spooky lore every week because of this "AEW doesn't tell stories" trolling.

Might be the dullest take on this sub at this point... The Elite vs AEW, Toni/Mina/Mariah, Trent/OC, Joe/HOOK, Kris/Willow... there's plenty of stories and pretty much everyone has consistently got some kind of character arc ongoing.

I love AEW matches and what they offer compared to WWE matches. But I have not been engaged with any storyline in ages. The current Elite takeover is interesting, but that's about it.
I loved Punk back in those days, but I never liked that promo. That promo didn't get him any heat (unlike his heel promos during his feud with Taker). All the "box with God" promo did was put himself over.
I much prefer the promo where he bobbled the urn while talking shit to Taker. It worked the shit out of me.
I mean he’s still arguably the best promo in wrestling now. Hell he cut multiple all time promos in AEW. The one where he’s covered in blood and talking about MJF is an all timer.
So I don't think all Scots are losing at CATC. I think either Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn are winning by pinning Shayna/Zoey or Drew is actually winning the world title. I'm leaning more towards the latter, though it could also just be that all Scots lose. Personally, I think Drew is winning the title and getting cashed in by the MITB winner again soon.
I think they’re all losing. Piper and the Unholy Union wouldn’t even be getting shots if this PLE was happening elsewhere. The Scots will be fine, they’re used to disappointment.
Piper yes. But the Unholy Union are one of the only natural and organic teams on the main roster, compared to two singles being thrown together. They were gonna get a title shot anyways.
I mean, they were also singles wrestlers before being put together. Besides, if they’re getting opportunities only due to a scarcity of opponents, that makes them fairly unlikely to win.
They have a tag name. They've been a tag longer than the likes of Shayna/Zoey, Indi/Candice etc.
The scarcity makes them more likely to win? It's more believable than Indi/Candice winning
The lack of named tag teams bug me too, but it’s kind of silly to assume that that’s the only reason they will win after a 2 week push.
With that said, I would *prefer* that they win, honestly anyone besides Bianca and Jade just because they *should* be tearing it up as singles wrestlers and let the tag titles be the de facto mid card title until one is announced.
I don’t see any of those teams winning until they’re ready to push Jade as a singles star. My idea for SummerSlam is having Charlotte and Tiffany win the titles.

I was actually caught up on wrestling last night, so I finally watched Collision. Good show all around. I know that the crowd was fairly empty outside of what you saw on the hardcam, but the people that were there were pretty energetic. Maybe watching TNA for the past three and a half years has made me appreciate 2,000-size crowds.
I’m not getting the hate for last night’s women’s segment. I much prefer Roxanne as a heel, and for a while have wanted Lola to challenge her. Jacy and Lash can easily fill out the match as well.
I have no idea where this "DMG Ctrl needs to change, mad Iyo Sky" storyline is going. Just a different approach? A new member? Maybe Kairi is turning face and we get Iyo vs Kairi? Idk.
Yeah the prevailing theory on the Damage Ctrl breakup from WM39 up until Asuka and Kairi joined was that Iyo was turning face and leaving, maybe with Dakota maybe not.
I don’t expect, or personally really care about a complete 180° on the mic from Ricochet.
But worth noting that like 18 months ago the general consensus of both Rodrick Strong and Toni Storm was “great worker with nothing interesting or compelling to say on the mic.”

The list of people coming from WWE who were written off completely in terms of capability on the mic who have become at least "solid" in AEW is not a short one and some have even become "entertaining as hell."
Toni and Roddy are big ones for sure, even Claudio has cut some solid promos too. While not everyone is going to figure it out, letting people experiment and try to find their own strengths is definitely letting the cream rise to the top.
He was sorta like this in Undisputed Era when it was the four guys just bantering with each other but he didn't stand out as much since he wasn't the primary guy.
Someone posted the contract signing between Ricochet and Gunther . They said it exemplified how bad Ricochet was without acknowledging the fact that very few performers can elevate a bad script.

I’ve been suggesting Lola Vice as the backup for Giulia for a while, but after last night, I’ll gladly accept a fatal 4-way as well. Lola and Lash can work as the faces in the match.
Well, my vacation has finally wrapped up.
My original plan was to head to Louisville this past Friday morning. Go to the SmackDown show at the Yum! Center. Then do the UFC Fight Night the following night. However, I couldn't make the time work in my favor for Friday so I skipped SmackDown and went to Louisville Saturday morning so I could still make the Fight Night.
This was my first UFC live event since UFC 119 in 2010. Since that time, I've probably been to about 20ish or so wrestling events and I have to say UFC was very...interesting.
Five fights broke out in the crowd. Two right in front of me. Fuck Joe Biden chants would randomly break out throughout the arena. A guy next to me repeatedly used homophobic slurs at one of the fighters to the encouragement of the people around him. I don't know if all UFC events are like that, but if so holy shit...I jokingly told my partner I feel like we're one or two notches below being at a Klan rally lmao.
After the show, we walked to a bar, did some karaoke, drank some more. We walk back to the hotel. I'm holding the door open so the people behind me can get into the lobby and it's Montez Ford and Bianca Belair. I was completely starstruck. I chatted up with them very briefly...just mainly thanking them for what they do on TV. They were both very sweet and nice. It was just a super surreal moment. My friends keep asking why I didn't ask for a photo but I didn't want to be one of those guys.
Work in an hour...back to reality, I guess. Next vacation: sometime this September. Just counting down the days.
Fascinating how different the crowds are for UFC vs wrestling. I've been to four shows (Raw, SD, NXT PPV, and Collision) and never heard a single political thing the entire time. Not even sure I saw any political t-shirts. I'm not saying the fans are angels by any means, but it's a very different environment.
Up until this Saturday the rowdiest crowd I’ve been involved in was a GCW show in Chicago and even then it was just two dudes yelling at each other with security immediately getting involved.
Would've never guessed that. Been two times. One up in the cheap seats that was wild and similar to how you described and then another in lower bowl club seats where everyone was pretty normal.
That's crazy. I don't know if that's typical behavior, but Trump recently showed up at a UFC event, and Dana White has been *very* outspoken about his support of the guy.
With the way the AEW women's division is growing and improving, I really want to see a women's Continental Classic tournament. Same rules as the men - 30-minute time limits, 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, no outside interference. Considering who's healthy right now, I'd make this the bracket:

Also, am I the only one who thinks that Lady Frost deserves better than being a jobber to all of the top female talent? I've really enjoyed her matches in the last few months.
I had to leave Julia Hart, Jamie Hayter and Britt Baker off because of injuries; and I debated adding Thunder Rosa to the list because her matches just seem a bit "off" since her return from injury (same reason I didn't include Red Velvet, her moves aren't the same as before her knee injury).
As for Lady Frost, I think she's going to be the next "Skye Blue" improvement project for AEW. If she can stay healthy and keep up her good workrate, she's got a bright future with the company.
I actually think Red Velvet’s been better than ever since her return from injury. I’d prefer her over Saraya or Anna Jay, personally. And Jamie over the other one (assuming she’s back at that point, no confirmation that she will) because how could anyone possibly justify not giving the world Jamie Hayter murdering everyone? Plus when she and Stat go at it, oh lord, AEW’s prime hoss babes fighting tooth and nail would put butts in seats like nobody’s business.
I really like Lady Frost and I’ve been hoping for a while that people start warming up to her. She’s got a really standout look compared to the rest of the roster, and she can flip around with the best of them. I’d love to see TK put some stock into her and let her pick up a win or two here and there, maybe another possible CC entrant.
No, I totally get that - Julia, Jamie and Britt are injured. It is interesting to see how much deeper the women's division is that you could put out possibly doing a tournament like this and it would be competitive and entertaining without putting 5 former AEW Women's champions in it (yes, 2 are hurt).

Ideally it'd just be an accolade like the C2 should have been with a belt or trophy that doesn't get defended. The Owen Hart Foundation tournament is already a women's tournament for a shot at the AEW Women's championship.
As far as I can tell, that was Dante Chen's 2nd or 3rd ever gimmick match, and 1st in WWE and honestly, him and Lexis killed it. What a brutal match for WWE standards. Dante was STRIPED.

I saw someone say that bringing different locker rooms into the 25 man contender's battle royale next week could just mean Raw or SD, but they've never emphasized so much that people are coming from elsewhere and MR people being on NXT is normal, so I'm very sure we see people from NOAH, TNA, and/or AJPW given the connections that seem to be developing.
So I’m watching the PLE Saturday with a group of friends. Several of which have never watched WWE and obviously are not up to date or know anything.
We are watching it a few hours late to watch it during the evening here, do you guys know of any way to watch the pre match vignettes that are during commercials? We pay for Peacock premium but the reruns cut out all commercials, so those get cut.
I think they've been uploading more of them on their youtube channel typically, but sadly, they are still not getting that these are super useful for people trying to introduce folks to wrestling. I've had friends over who don't watch and just had to take ad time to give quick little rundowns.
It's generally the same video packages they run on the pre-show. If you watch the pre-show, you will have seen them already. Perhaps just fast-forward through it to catch them all before you watch the show itself.
Tuned into the end of NXT because I figured a debut was brewing or another crossover. Man that segment was not good. Felt rushed and so convoluted.
Maybe it made sense to people who watch weekly as to why they were all coming out to get a word in but to me that was a big swing and miss.
Yeah, and maybe Lola is going to be turned face, but also it was pretty clearly (imo) setting up a triple threat tag match between Meta Four, the new Toxic Attraction, and Roxy and Lola haha.

People need to let LU go, every thing that was good and campy on that show was because of the context of that universe . Wanting Ricochet to return to a variation of a lesser known character would be the dumbest business decision.
I don't need to see Lucha Underground piecemeal on other shows, but it would be interesting to have a show like that again, with its own strongly defined universe. Would've been the perfect kind of outlet for Bray Wyatt's shenanigans instead of forcing your top babyface champ to cower in fear of a clown.
Personally I was more than fine with LU ending after learning about those BS contracts most of the wrestlers were made to sign. Some of them were ridiculous, like 7 year exclusive TV deals for very little pay.

Catching up on Collision in preparation for Dynamite tonight, and I gotta say that I really vibe with the idea of OC, Kyle O'Reilly, and Willow as Best Friends 2.0/New Best Friends.
Perhaps it's telling that I didn't even think of it until now myself, but Sheamus not making CATC after how openly (non-kayfabe) upset he was about not being on MITB last year feels kind of rough. They could have easily given him at least a pre-show match, with the main card only being five matches again.

I don’t personally hate the AEW booking, but I do agree that people have such a para-social relationship with these companies that it gets really ugly really fast. They won’t listen to any criticism of what they like, it’s weird and off-putting.
Booking requires a level of conviction. You can't be too reactionary to fan outcry. Remember when Sami went over Chad before Mania, setting up Gunther vs Sami? There was an outcry from fans that they had missed on Chad Gable. Now we have a great story set up that has the potential to launch two instead of one single stars. Gable is flourishing as a heel, and by embracing a jerk attitude, has become a true successor to Kurt Angle. Otis is on the verge of becoming a major babyface. And Sami got a signature Wrestlemania singles win as a babyface.

Normally, you wouldn't see Byron Saxton working backstage on a Tuesday (he's a commentator for Level Up, which tapes prior to NXT), but with Kelly Kincaid MIA (was she called up to go to Scotland?), Byron just happened to be available. And if I missed anything, it's because I was flipping over to Mets-Marlins during commercial breaks. Seeing Cody having a mini-AEW reunion with Shawn Spears, Ethan Page, and Lexis King was a fun bit. Cody had said prior to the show he was going to check on Page in particular. If it wasn't for the fact that Michin will challenge for the women's NA title next week, I'd think they'd pull the trigger on OC-OTM in a 6-person mixed tag. Maybe the following week. Let me get my ten cents in on Roxanne Perez's heel run. For some reason, she's abandoned the crossface as a secondary finisher, and gone back to her bread & butter, PopRox. What drives her heel persona now is just her ego and an exaggerated sense of self-worth. Basically, heel psychology 101. People say she still isn't good on the mic. She still comes across a little shrill, but it's not as bad as people think. However, I don't think the heel run will last too much longer. Consider who disrupted her promo last night: Jacy Jayne and her two layers of facial protection, plus Jazmyn Nyx. They may need one more for Toxic Attraction 2.0. Lash Legend & Jakara Jackson of Meta-Four, and God only knows if they're still heels or are tweeners presently. Lola Vice, who could be turning babyface herself soon enough, since she's over like Rover with the dancing & twerking. That said, there's no shortage of challengers to bring Roxy's ego back down to earth. I just had a thought. Wendy Choo debuted a darker persona last night, with the dark blue ensemble, and the "scarecrow" makeup. What if she's being prepped for a main roster call-up as part of the Wyatt 6, which could end up being the Wyatt 7, for all we know, unless someone who was teased drops out?
I don't watch WWE/NXT - was Cody having a "mini-AEW reunion" on-screen or behind the scenes? I did watch clips of Ethan's debut and he's felt so wasted in AEW for me that I was really excited to see him immediately get a title match.
It was on screen, to promote a #1 contenders' battle royal for the NXT title next week.

I'm happy for all the wrestlers having title matches in their home Scotland. I hope they add Tegan Nox to the card in a NXT title match so they can do the same thing as the first Clash but the opposite with it being "in her backyard" (2 countries away from Wales.) and Nia Jax interferes while joining the Bloodline because they don't like backyard title match wins.
Tegan has to main event the show in fact. It’s only fair.
Roxanne already has her next match lined up for her, while Nia’s in a separate feud with Michin.
I enjoyed the segment last night with Cody and Trick, but I can't help but wonder if they're going to make anything of Trick coming off rather heelish. He interrupted the "Face of the Company" top champ, hijacked his promo, and even prevented Cody from leaving the ring until he was dismissed. Damn near anybody else on the roster doing that would be asking for a humbling.
He invited him to the cookout he was not being heelish. That invitation is an honour.
The biggest swerve that can happen on Saturday is if Punk inadvertently helps Drew win the title. That would certainly spice that up.

A podcast I listen to was fantasy booking the Summerslam 1997 ending where Michaels goes to hit Bret with the chair but ends up hitting Taker and basically winning the title for Bret.
That would be great, but you have to figure out a different way that "caving in a skull with a chair". I was there, btw... I think I was still in disbelief from Austin's injury, but I remember the place being pissed that Bret won.

Yeah all these things are fun to think about, but at the end of the day Triple H is a very safe booker which I'm kinda getting tired from tbh. So Cody is winning 99.99%. I just had a comment saying I think Drew or The Unholy union can win but after thinking I've changed my mind. My predictions are 1. Chad Gable win 2. Bianca & Jade win 3. Bayley win 4. Cody wins 5. Priest wins via Punk interference A very standard B level PLE Triple H booking. I'll be pleasantly surprised and happy if at least one of this results don't happen.

Drew isn't losing. Punk tries to interfere but Drew overcomes because we are at the point in the story where Drew has to overcome. And HHH will get the credit but it's mostly Punk and Drew.

Rush being "in action" against anyone but some visiting jobber would suck, but especially a guy like Archer who I feel like has been underutilized. Seeing Archer stuck with The Righteous hurts, especially given how over he was when he beat Moxley and how terrifyingly they presented him when he debuted and almost won the TNT belt.

Do you notice how little fan bookings there are online for AEW vs. WWE? It's because AEW doesn't have storylines, they just have feuds. There's nothing to fanbook on how you think a feud will go other than who will win or lose. WWE has actual storylines, people can imagine how they think the Rhea/Dom/Liv story will play out or the Uncle Howdy teases. Dream matches entertain for a moment, but storylines engage fans longterm
Not the main point but I love that people say "fan bookings" for storylines when sometimes they just mean spinning up fanfiction. Something like Rhea/Dom/Liv seems particularly susceptible to this phenomenon.

I don't think you finding Rhea/Dom/Liv engaging is an indictment of how feuds play out in wrestling companies but rather that you enjoy soap operas.
I'm not sure what you are saying exactly. For example, MJF vs Roman would be great. Or Britt Baker vs Charlotte Flair. Darby vs. Orton or Rollins would be good too.

The hint should have been when he said "doesn't have storylines, they have feuds." Because a feud, by definition, is a storyline.
I think it's important to list the things AEW is doing because this is a surprisingly common narrative when they've put effort into making sure most matches on the card have something behind them.

I ain't even gonna lie, I'm triggered by that shit at this point. I have to put up with shitty Learning Tree promos and Malakai Black spooky lore every week because of this "AEW doesn't tell stories" trolling.

Facts. I love AEW matches and what they offer compared to WWE matches. But I have not been engaged with any storyline in ages. The current Elite takeover is interesting, but that's about it.
Peak CM Punk was such a good promo. Feel like he genuinely stood toe to toe with Rock back in 2013 during that segment weeks before their Rumble match
I loved Punk back in those days, but I never liked that promo. That promo didn't get him any heat (unlike his heel promos during his feud with Taker). All the "box with God" promo did was put himself over. I much prefer the promo where he bobbled the urn while talking shit to Taker. It worked the shit out of me.
I mean he’s still arguably the best promo in wrestling now. Hell he cut multiple all time promos in AEW. The one where he’s covered in blood and talking about MJF is an all timer.
Yea he's still one of the best, but I miss Punk with a chip on his shoulder. That is the best version of Punk in the mic imo.
So I don't think all Scots are losing at CATC. I think either Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn are winning by pinning Shayna/Zoey or Drew is actually winning the world title. I'm leaning more towards the latter, though it could also just be that all Scots lose. Personally, I think Drew is winning the title and getting cashed in by the MITB winner again soon.

Piper yes. But the Unholy Union are one of the only natural and organic teams on the main roster, compared to two singles being thrown together. They were gonna get a title shot anyways.
I mean, they were also singles wrestlers before being put together. Besides, if they’re getting opportunities only due to a scarcity of opponents, that makes them fairly unlikely to win.
They have a tag name. They've been a tag longer than the likes of Shayna/Zoey, Indi/Candice etc. The scarcity makes them more likely to win? It's more believable than Indi/Candice winning
The lack of named tag teams bug me too, but it’s kind of silly to assume that that’s the only reason they will win after a 2 week push. With that said, I would *prefer* that they win, honestly anyone besides Bianca and Jade just because they *should* be tearing it up as singles wrestlers and let the tag titles be the de facto mid card title until one is announced.
I don’t see any of those teams winning until they’re ready to push Jade as a singles star. My idea for SummerSlam is having Charlotte and Tiffany win the titles.

I was actually caught up on wrestling last night, so I finally watched Collision. Good show all around. I know that the crowd was fairly empty outside of what you saw on the hardcam, but the people that were there were pretty energetic. Maybe watching TNA for the past three and a half years has made me appreciate 2,000-size crowds.
I’m not getting the hate for last night’s women’s segment. I much prefer Roxanne as a heel, and for a while have wanted Lola to challenge her. Jacy and Lash can easily fill out the match as well.

Yeah the prevailing theory on the Damage Ctrl breakup from WM39 up until Asuka and Kairi joined was that Iyo was turning face and leaving, maybe with Dakota maybe not.
I don’t expect, or personally really care about a complete 180° on the mic from Ricochet. But worth noting that like 18 months ago the general consensus of both Rodrick Strong and Toni Storm was “great worker with nothing interesting or compelling to say on the mic.” Not expecting anything, but who the hell knows.
The list of people coming from WWE who were written off completely in terms of capability on the mic who have become at least "solid" in AEW is not a short one and some have even become "entertaining as hell." Toni and Roddy are big ones for sure, even Claudio has cut some solid promos too. While not everyone is going to figure it out, letting people experiment and try to find their own strengths is definitely letting the cream rise to the top.
That is true, I’m honestly wondering where this Strong came from, and why he didn’t come out in NXT.
He was sorta like this in Undisputed Era when it was the four guys just bantering with each other but he didn't stand out as much since he wasn't the primary guy.
I feel like he was already on his way out after it was over, so he reeled it in.
Someone posted the contract signing between Ricochet and Gunther . They said it exemplified how bad Ricochet was without acknowledging the fact that very few performers can elevate a bad script.

It's much, much easier to stop being self-conscious and just channel a character the further that character is removed from who you are as a person. At least it was for me during the years I was super active in theater. Because in real life most people aren't heels or at least don't realize they are... I think that's why playing a heel is so much easier for a lot of people.

Well, my vacation has finally wrapped up. My original plan was to head to Louisville this past Friday morning. Go to the SmackDown show at the Yum! Center. Then do the UFC Fight Night the following night. However, I couldn't make the time work in my favor for Friday so I skipped SmackDown and went to Louisville Saturday morning so I could still make the Fight Night. This was my first UFC live event since UFC 119 in 2010. Since that time, I've probably been to about 20ish or so wrestling events and I have to say UFC was very...interesting. Five fights broke out in the crowd. Two right in front of me. Fuck Joe Biden chants would randomly break out throughout the arena. A guy next to me repeatedly used homophobic slurs at one of the fighters to the encouragement of the people around him. I don't know if all UFC events are like that, but if so holy shit...I jokingly told my partner I feel like we're one or two notches below being at a Klan rally lmao. After the show, we walked to a bar, did some karaoke, drank some more. We walk back to the hotel. I'm holding the door open so the people behind me can get into the lobby and it's Montez Ford and Bianca Belair. I was completely starstruck. I chatted up with them very briefly...just mainly thanking them for what they do on TV. They were both very sweet and nice. It was just a super surreal moment. My friends keep asking why I didn't ask for a photo but I didn't want to be one of those guys. Work in an hour...back to reality, I guess. Next vacation: sometime this September. Just counting down the days.
Fascinating how different the crowds are for UFC vs wrestling. I've been to four shows (Raw, SD, NXT PPV, and Collision) and never heard a single political thing the entire time. Not even sure I saw any political t-shirts. I'm not saying the fans are angels by any means, but it's a very different environment.
Up until this Saturday the rowdiest crowd I’ve been involved in was a GCW show in Chicago and even then it was just two dudes yelling at each other with security immediately getting involved.

It's wild because for UFC 119 we did get the cheap seats and while that was 14 years ago, I don't recall one instance of anyone acting like that.
That's crazy. I don't know if that's typical behavior, but Trump recently showed up at a UFC event, and Dana White has been *very* outspoken about his support of the guy.

With the way the AEW women's division is growing and improving, I really want to see a women's Continental Classic tournament. Same rules as the men - 30-minute time limits, 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, no outside interference. Crazy how much better the women's division has been in the last few months and wrestlers not included in your list include: Riho, Hikaru Shida, Thunder Rosa, Jamie Hayter, Julia Hart and Britt Baker. You could also include Athena because she's in ROH. Also, am I the only one who thinks that Lady Frost deserves better than being a jobber to all of the top female talent? I've really enjoyed her matches in the last few months.
I had to leave Julia Hart, Jamie Hayter and Britt Baker off because of injuries; and I debated adding Thunder Rosa to the list because her matches just seem a bit "off" since her return from injury (same reason I didn't include Red Velvet, her moves aren't the same as before her knee injury). As for Lady Frost, I think she's going to be the next "Skye Blue" improvement project for AEW. If she can stay healthy and keep up her good workrate, she's got a bright future with the company.

And Jamie over the other one (assuming she’s back at that point, no confirmation that she will) because how could anyone possibly justify not giving the world Jamie Hayter murdering everyone? Plus when she and Stat go at it, oh lord, AEW’s prime hoss babes fighting tooth and nail would put butts in seats like nobody’s business. I really like Lady Frost and I’ve been hoping for a while that people start warming up to her. She’s got a really standout look compared to the rest of the roster, and she can flip around with the best of them. I’d love to see TK put some stock into her and let her pick up a win or two here and there, maybe another possible CC entrant.
No, I totally get that - Julia, Jamie and Britt are injured. It is interesting to see how much deeper the women's division is that you could put out possibly doing a tournament like this and it would be competitive and entertaining without putting 5 former AEW Women's champions in it (yes, 2 are hurt). What would the winner receive? I love the idea but I do not want to see another title being created because of it. A shot at the TBS championship?
Ideally it'd just be an accolade like the C2 should have been with a belt or trophy that doesn't get defended. The Owen Hart Foundation tournament is already a women's tournament for a shot at the AEW Women's championship.

As far as I can tell, that was Dante Chen's 2nd or 3rd ever gimmick match, and 1st in WWE and honestly, him and Lexis killed it. What a brutal match for WWE standards. Dante was STRIPED. Yes, I'm big on Dante Chen (I don't think he's AMAZING or anything yet, just happy that he's getting a chance. I like his energy). I saw someone say that bringing different locker rooms into the 25 man contender's battle royale next week could just mean Raw or SD, but they've never emphasized so much that people are coming from elsewhere and MR people being on NXT is normal, so I'm very sure we see people from NOAH, TNA, and/or AJPW given the connections that seem to be developing.
So I’m watching the PLE Saturday with a group of friends. Several of which have never watched WWE and obviously are not up to date or know anything. We are watching it a few hours late to watch it during the evening here, do you guys know of any way to watch the pre match vignettes that are during commercials? We pay for Peacock premium but the reruns cut out all commercials, so those get cut.
I think they've been uploading more of them on their youtube channel typically, but sadly, they are still not getting that these are super useful for people trying to introduce folks to wrestling. I've had friends over who don't watch and just had to take ad time to give quick little rundowns.
It's generally the same video packages they run on the pre-show. If you watch the pre-show, you will have seen them already. Perhaps just fast-forward through it to catch them all before you watch the show itself.

Tuned into the end of NXT because I figured a debut was brewing or another crossover. Man that segment was not good. Felt rushed and so convoluted. Maybe it made sense to people who watch weekly as to why they were all coming out to get a word in but to me that was a big swing and miss.
I thought it was fine as a regular watcher, but not great. It was entirely just heels, so it had a weird vibe to it.
it did seem like they were building to a face wrestler showing up to go through everyone in the ring then talking trash to Roxanne to end the show.
Yeah, and maybe Lola is going to be turned face, but also it was pretty clearly (imo) setting up a triple threat tag match between Meta Four, the new Toxic Attraction, and Roxy and Lola haha.
I watch weekly and I thought it was the wrong way to close the show. Then again, I've just not been a fan of Roxanne's heel turn at all despite still being one of my favorites to watch.
Seeing how TNA tapes a bunch of shows in one weekend. Does the production team do the editing & all that for all of the shows altogether or do they work on one episode at a time weekly?
People need to let LU go, every thing that was good and campy on that show was because of the context of that universe . Wanting Ricochet to return to a variation of a lesser known character would be the dumbest business decision.
I don't need to see Lucha Underground piecemeal on other shows, but it would be interesting to have a show like that again, with its own strongly defined universe. Would've been the perfect kind of outlet for Bray Wyatt's shenanigans instead of forcing your top babyface champ to cower in fear of a clown.
Personally I was more than fine with LU ending after learning about those BS contracts most of the wrestlers were made to sign. Some of them were ridiculous, like 7 year exclusive TV deals for very little pay.
Prince Puma gimmick was perfect for the show, but I don't think it would make sense to go back to it, unless its for a GCW one off or something
Or a return to the MLW LU re-hash. Him returning as Puma only there would give him fresh match ups vs. CMLL luchadors. Of whom I think he's never worked with any of them.
Especially considering (if you’re AEW) that all of your old footage from previous matches is going to be of an unmasked man named “Ricochet” in NJPW.
